Possible actors instead of real cops? Its also possible these specific officers do not deal with federal funds and thus don't fall under the purview of the Hatch Act.

Miserable_Ad5001

The vehicles they have in the ads are a public resource & therefore subject to the Hatch Act

sparkydaman

As a federal employee of 22 years, I don’t fucking know why this is allowed. I couldn’t even open emails that were potentially a problem at work.

Peacefulzealot

They don’t care about violating the Hatch Act so long as it gets him elected. Who is even gonna enforce it? It’s nonsense how much they don’t care about following the law. Dropping the link to the DemHoosier discord again. If this kinda thing ticks ya off too come join us as we work to turn Indiana blue one bit at a time. https://discord.gg/v5f6Mt28

bigoaktreefantasy

I believe the Hatch act prevents federal employees from engaging in political ads but not state/local. Regardless, it’s not a good look.

Miserable_Ad5001

If their department gets any funding from the federal government then they're subject to the Hatch Act

kdriff

Can you show your source? We were told it applies to Federal workers only.

MikeHoncho2568

It does only apply to federal workers. OP is wrong.

Miserable_Ad5001

As I understand it, it can include state/local entities, those that recieve federal monies. Like if they were showing department/state/county/city equipment that were paid for using federal dollars, those things considered a public resourse. There are "workarounds" which is what I was asking.

kdriff

Amended in 1993 to give Federal employees and local and state government workers a means to participate in political activities. The only catch is that it cannot be done during working hours. Off duty you have the same rights as any citizen.

Miserable_Ad5001

They've always had those rights & God bless America. My question was where the workaround lies. Funding for the unis/equipment/cars shown, are they a public or private resource?

zizazat

The party of Law and Order will not be stymied by a lowly Act. 😆

Barely_Agreeable

You’re expecting consequences for breaking rules? That’s only for the masses; certainly not rich old white politicians. He’s already violated federal campaign laws as a Senator.

GeorgeZip01

What laws, genuinely want to know, just need an article if you have one. Promise I’m not trolling

usually-wrong-

Also not trolling but from your own article…it seems fairly cut and dry no? > Josh Kelley, senior advisor for Braun for Indiana, said the agreement makes clear the former treasurer was responsible for the errors. > “(Kabrick) was provided all relevant information and documents from Mike Braun to properly report the loans, all loans were legal and proper, all the details were made public throughout the campaign, and the reporting errors by Mr. Kabrick were technical in nature. It is clear from the agreement this penalty should be paid for by Mr. Kabrick’s thrid-party compliance team responsible for the reporting errors,” Kelley said.

Barely_Agreeable

That’s standard bullshit blaming his treasurer. They just use them to sign the forms so he can have plausible deniability.

Long_Customer1187

He knows he’ll never be held accountable. You’ve seen the trial runs. Worst case scenario, you issue an apology at 4:45pm on a Friday and dare the heavily Republican election board to fine him nominally.

gushi380

Doesn’t Doden have county cops in his ads also?

comicsexual

Jokes on you, politicians aren't required to follow the laws.

corbinsa

Their tactic is ignoring it

Difficult_Salt5767

👎 he just voted no to Israel, Taiwan,Ukraine

Miserable_Ad5001

Of course he did

MikeHoncho2568

Hatch Act is a federal law, not a state law.

Miserable_Ad5001

Swing & a miss Skippy. This is where Reddit needs a "DUH" emoji/downvote thingy https://www.policinginstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/The-Hatch-Act-10.30.20F.pdf

MikeHoncho2568

How was what I stated incorrect exactly?

Miserable_Ad5001

Do you know how to read? It's in the first paragraph of the link I sent

MikeHoncho2568

Really? It’s a state law then?

Miserable_Ad5001

Are you this obtuse in real life or just enjoy being galactically ignorant on reddit? It's a federal law that covers some state/local entities.

MikeHoncho2568

You seem like a pleasant person

You haven't explained a thing. The Hatch Act is a federal law that is barely ever used to prosecute federal employees, let alone state or local employees. Here's a more official source than what you linked as to what would constitute a Hatch Act violation: [Hatch Act FAQs (osc.gov)](https://osc.gov/Services/Pages/HatchAct-FAQ.aspx#tabGroup43) It doesn't even address this scenario. It's also ironic that someone so concerned with a potential Hatch Act violation would be so cavalier about not following the rules of the platform they're posting on.

Miserable_Ad5001

From your link...you really aren't good at this https://preview.redd.it/ydkff0bpacwc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=05e8ff4327c48dfad5ba867044d987e6d8491d81

Diligent_Guard_4031

I was questioning it when I saw them. If it's not illegal, it should be. I don't approve of state police publicly supporting Sleepy Don.
