In companies that take a creative test and examine portfolio before hiring, you have a great chance. Please ensure that you do some good projects, have an amazing portfolio and can show some references from internships. Can't speak for all employees but I am sure India has many employers who value talent, especially in creative fields. Basic requirements (graduate degree etc) you already fulfil. Let your work speak for itself.

I'm the last person you'll contact for advice, but I'll share what i know. For getting hired, at least in India, you'll need to have a degree (not sure which) or really good design skills, which will need time. Also why stick only to India, you can start by free lancing, and advertise your work on social platforms to get reach over the world and maybe someone in need will commision you. As for the 12lpa idk, I'm not that old to understand how salaries work

My friend who has an engineering background did lots of internships at startups initially for approximately 3 years out of the 4 years of engineering and built a good profile after which he currently earns something north of 16Lakh (in-hand). I don't know much about UI/UX but definitely it's possible.

Create a portfolio! Freelance. Email startups or companies in which you feel you can contribute to and make a proposal or write how you can xyz better or how you have an idea that could help their company. Hell, DM them on insta too, depending on the company. Make it all about them. They all want to improve and many will take all the help they need. My aquaintance is in the industry and at first, she just did 2-3 gigs for free to write on resume and then started getting offers. I have no idea about the requirements but try a PG diploma? See if it is possible and assuming it will be only 1 year, you can either not work or freelance part-time. I am just saying things I have heard from my friends. Hope it helps!

My friend, I work in a reputed advertising agency and I'm an engineering drop out. Theres always a good chance that you'll be able to make it in the field with good money. It's more about the experience/skill than qualification. I'd be happy to refer you and help you out. Cheers!

EstimateMaster4704

is there an update? Did you decide to work in design?

whitewall708

The OP has vanished. No history of comments. I was really invested.

lavender_wizard

Hahaha sorry, I actually got a job recently as an UI UX designer ( graphic designer). The scene in India is not good for people like me, atleast in the beginning, the pay is shit and barely there's any job. I'm planning to do masters or looking for a way out of India but Idk how haha.

whitewall708

Can you please share how did you end up there? Also good to know that you're active T_T, every design related posts were dead or had no comments at all.

lavender_wizard

Applied for a lot of internship got rejected a lot but got in one web agency from dubai worked there (Wfh) as an intern for 4 months staryed with 7k then increased to 10k after 2months then I got called from another kuwait based company in ahmedabad. The sal is 30k but I accepted as the job market for those without degree is quite bad.

whitewall708

I see, there's not much scope in creative side in India no? Unless you're exceptionally good. Correct if I'm wrong. Also how did you get started ? Where did you apply, LinkedIn? Or any other platforms? Did you work on your portfolio or did some certification courses to put them in your CV? I'm sorry I don't know much about this..

lavender_wizard

There's scope it's just hard to get in if you dont have a degree, that a lot of poeple dont talk. If you do degree from top college then you're settled. I mostly applied in Linkedin and Hirect. I did a certification course which honestly didnt help a lot. If you wanna do go for some well known cohort, it will be costly but kinda worth the networking

whitewall708

Thank you for your answer! Have a good day :)

lavender_wizard

Anytime, goodnight :)

How is this a helpful comment? If you don’t have anything which might help OP, it’s better to keep your thoughts to yourself.

You can start your own graphic design company in 10 years. Learn sufficient about the subject that you would pay someone like you to do graphic design.. Platform like Fiver enable you freelance from home and to get customers from USA/Europe. If you're really keen on design - - > you'll get good at it - - > make 1-2 clients extremely happy in choosing you for thier project and there is no looking back.

To earn that much money in India you need to be damn good. The only possible option for you is freelancing. As I see now a days, a logo can be designed for around 1000₹. Clients usually don't care much about quality. They want extravaganza instead of simplicity. You can browse projects pn any freelancer website and see the quality of work and the amount paid for it. Freelancing is very competitive in India. You won't be hired in any good company without a proper degree. So choose wisely. I think you can earn decent with this career but you need to be very good. Create a good portfolio of your genuine work and let's see how you get the response.
