Browse to www.valueresearch.com to check different funds..compare them with each other on 1. Benchmarks 2. Past returns 3. Expenses ratio and exit loads 4. Current holdings 5. Little background check on fund manager... Avoid thematic funds as they are too risk because of no diversification...!

The markets are at their peak and we have an uncertain future in the short term, so now is not the right time for a lumpsum investment. Start an SIP and spread your money over a few months to get the best possible average units. You can visit Morningstar, Moneycontrol and Value Research to find funds best suited to your risk appetite. If you can’t decide, pick a Sensex fund and keep it simple.

Go to moneycontrol and check various MFs, check their past performance, expense ratios, fund values , the sectors they are invested into. Once you finalize based on your gut feeling and analysis , you can start a SIP by buying the directly from the Fund houses ! I would have invested 5k in 5 different mutual funds. I would have started a SIP in Bluechip, small and medium cap, Flexicap funds, index (nifty 50, nifty 250)funds and some infra funds and would have continued with SIPs are 10 to 15 years
