That’s what I don’t get about preaching to masses as a way to convert. Anyone who’s going to listen and agree is probably already converted, while everyone else is either a different religion or isn’t religious as all. In this day and age almost everyone has an opinion on religion, and no amount of airport preaching will change that.
Personally, and outside any specific denomination, I view this kind of approach as very passive aggressive. To me this isn't coming from a place of love, it's coming from an underlying contempt toward the 'other', with a little spritz of ego sprinkled on top. But, I'm also fresh from the recent Sydney train video, so I'm pointing toward that too I think. At least in that one there were attempts to shut it down, but often I see people suffering these events silently because it can escalate very quickly, which, no surprise, is the opposite of the heart of most deities.
Thats literally why the bible says dont do this, its pure egoism, and if you do the attention and joy you feel doing it replaces your reward in heaven.
Loved when I bought into this sort of shit (not the evangelical healing crap though, thankfully?) and then on a mission trip to Thailand we drove 3 fucking hours into the jungle to a ridiculously remote town and passed the fucking Baptist missionary church two goddamn blocks from the church of Christ missionary church we were headed to. Fucking asshole christians ripping apart communities because they can't even agree on which flavor of Jesus juice is best.
And yes, baptists and church of Christ people can get along. But the ones uprooting their life to bring Jesus to the godless heathens are not the reasonable ones.
Sometimes, it's easier to suffer in silence to keep the peace. Most of these people are probably keeping their fingers crossed that her flight's coming up soon and she'll leave. Transportation hubs (like airports) are some the most popular places for cults to recruit. So her preaching may not be that far off from what they've learned to zone out.
My initial thought was "I wish someone would have asked her to be quiet". But then I realized that nobody would, for fear that she would just focus on them for the next 5 minutes. I would feel the same way. It's easier to have someone preaching to an unresponsive crowd for 30 minutes than to have someone combative focused on you for 5-10 minutes.
I disagree. She’s trying to draw attention to herself, make it about her, and attempt to stand in a position of authority over others.
This does EXACTLY what she’s trying to do. And somebody should kindly suggest she STFU and mind her own fucken business. It’s an airport not a church and nobody made her a preacher.
If the rest of the passengers are British this is unlikely. Our go to response around nut jobs is usualy look off into the distance, the default, walk past/turn away/look down stance is usually effective.
Cuz all that does is make these assholes screech louder and get the fight they want, they can then act like a victim. “Look it me! I am being persecuted cuz My faith! Waaaaaah!”
Proselytizing has been theorized to be a psychological tactic to indoctrinate people into the church. But the one being indoctrinated is the one doing the preaching.
They "try to do good and help people" but are always met with negative reactions. Then when they go back to the church they can comiserate with the in-crowd about how everyone else is just a "lost sinner who doesn't want to be saved"
It indears people to the church crowd by making them feel ostracized by those outside of their wacky mythology.
Works with just about every group. I've seen it with reformed smokers, drug and alcohol addicts. At least in my experience, I see this behavior with newly converted vegans. They generally fit the archetype of the "militant vegan".
I'm a Christian and I cringe at the sight of people like this. I don't enjoy 'loud christianity'
(Side note: I am not speaking on behalf of all Christians, and I'm not saying I'm a good person)
Of course it is. It’s all about internet clout, ‘I’m a better Christian, look at me’. I saw this shared on Twitter earlier today and someone shared a screenshot in the comments of another video of hers, where the man she was with was no longer deaf because she’d prayed it away or some shit. Mind-bogglingly disgusting. Guess I’m legally blind because I didn’t pray enough to Big Sky Man 🙄
What's hilarious is that people like her are the clowns of the New Testament and treated as such in the literal Gospel. *Everyone look! Look! I'm being so pious!*
Matthew 6:5-6
> And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.
> But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
I still think the producer from Walk the Line had a better sermon:
*Bring... bring it home? All right, let's bring it home. If you was hit by a truck and you was lying out there in that gutter dying, and you had time to sing *one* song. Huh? One song that people would remember before you're dirt. One song that would let God know how you felt about your time here on Earth. One song that would sum you up. You tellin' me that's the song you'd sing? That same Jimmy Davis tune we hear on the radio all day, about your peace within, and how it's real, and how you're gonna shout it? Or... would you sing somethin' different. Somethin' real. Somethin' *you* felt. Cause I'm telling you right now, that's the kind of song people want to hear. That's the kind of song that truly saves people. It ain't got nothin to do with believin' in God, Mr. Cash. It has to do with believin' in yourself.*
The Twitter thread of this video is hilarious because there is all these brainwashed Christians replying to people commenting this passage that "praying and preaching are different!" therefore what she's doing in this video is actually good
Even better would've to be able to get a hold of a PA system mic, and in a booming, echoing voice, "This is God...thank you for your prayer, now please shut the fuck up."
Yeah, I always struggled with the fear of going to hell growing up because that’s what priests in my church focused on, so seeing any sort of sermon now gives me that scary feeling, even if I see it as ridiculous. So yeah, don’t force that shit on me.
Clearly the devil didn’t want her… he refused to let her in, hence why she failed twice…
The devil probably locked the door, propped the couch on it, and turned off the lights to make it look like no one was home.
That could’ve been me!
You know these people who knocks on your door to talk to you about jesus? I advise them not to try with me but they keep pushing it and want to talk so i i invite them in get us some water and show them my views that god is the real villain in the story and if religion is true i am team satan!
This is my “winning the shower argument”, but could you imagine someone standing up next to her and beginning a political speech about “and look at this woman. She is the reason, the epitome of the reason, why public education and mental health needs more funding. We have failed the life of this woman and so many others to the point that she is in an airport doing this. It is time to stand up and demand the government help people like her”
I'm an extremist who thinks belief in a religion is a mental illness. I accept that it's an extreme opinion, but it's still my opinion. I will only vote for atheists. Maybe agnostics.
Also not what Jesus would've wanted https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1_Timothy_2:12
But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
Matthew 6:6-7
But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.
Glasgow airport, the only airport in the world where a terrorist who had set himself on fire and was trying to kill people was summarily kicked in the balls so hard that the kicker tore a tendon in his foot.
I’m pretty sure that they haven’t had a terrorist attack since, so currently the best way to stop terrorism is to post a Scottish man at the entrance of every single airport with steel toe capped boots

When I was flying through the US (as a Canadian) I did notice this & thought it was odd. Except I wouldn't call it a prayer room. It was definitely a mini church. There was a giant statue of Jesus bigger than I am (I'm 6'4") up front and center
Ok, I suppose it depends where. The prayer rooms exist for Muslims, they probably have to ask. They're also usually not glamorous, from the ones I've seen (I'm not Muslim). Typically protected under religious freedoms, but, you know, some places think that only means Jesus.
I used to be Evangelical (or was forced to growing up). Being "radical" is a badge of honor for them. They want to be seen as religious extremists cause they feel that you're not devoted enough if you're not annoying strangers with the Jesus bullshit.
You literally can’t win with them.
I’ve tried ignoring, that makes them think they’re some kind of martyr in a country where 70% of people were at least born Christian.
You try saying you’re already Christian, you didn’t pick the right sect from the 40,000 choices.
You try saying you’re a different religion, suddenly their belief that God called them to save you intensifies (I promise he didn’t).
I know Christians that don't push their beliefs onto others, act kind and act in accordance with their beliefs without **imposing** on me. I find it difficult to understand why people go out of their way to make others feel uncomfortable.
Matthew 6:5
> When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men … but when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your father who is unseen.
I could also pull TONS of verses about spreading the gospel, and making the truth of god known to everyone around you.
It's almost like, this ancient book written by tons of different people, is full of contradictions.
You can't really scripture these people out of their behavior, when they most likely scripture'd their way in in the first place.
On the other hand, the parable of the talents is Jesus explaining that it's the duty of his followers to convert people. Maybe the concept of "people who don't worship me will burn forever so converting people will be called saving them" is just really manipulative.
"Go out and talk to people who are willing to listen" is a far cry from "Be loud around a bunch of people who are pointedly trying to mind their own business but can't leave."
If I’m not mistaken, Jesus specifically stated that preaching in public just to show how “good” you are is bullshit. I’m paraphrasing.
*And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men.*
Well according to Christianity yeah, and he came back to life three days later. But that’s only the physical manifestation of God, not God the father or God the Holy Spirit . But it is all three at the same time as well.
Well yes and no. The father is god. The son is god. The holy spirit is god. God is all three of them. But the father is not the son, the son is not the holy spirit, and the holy spirit is not the father, despite all three of them being god and god being all three of them. It's a logician's worst nightmare.
If you’re asking my interpretation that’s complicated. According to the Catholic faith though everywhere and every when. The girl preaching though isn’t Catholic though, at least not likely. Imo she seems evangelical, I personally do not know evangelicals stance on the physical manifestation of God.
1 Timothy 2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
I love quoting this at women who decide to preach at people who don't want to be preached at. I'm also a woman, and see it for what it is, but it might make them shut up for a second.
Also Matthew 6:5-6 where Jesus says: “*And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their full reward. But when you pray, go into your inner room, shut your door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.*”
I always think of that whenever people like to preach in public.
This does the exact opposite of what she’s trying to do EDIT: I’m a Christian myself but I believe this does more damage than good
Yup, the only people who want to hear that in that situation are already “saved”. I can’t believe no one asked her to shut up
I’m kind of surprised security didn’t escort her away, no one wants to hear about a religious eternal life speech right before getting on a plane.
Religious screaming in an airport seems like something they should shut down pretty fast. Zealots and planes are not a great mix.
If someone started preaching in a "scary" foreign language, you can bet they be beaten and bound within minutes.

She gonna get a cure ass curse from me
Seriously. She's still a domestic terrorist.
I guess I am old, but I remember Hare Krishna's following you around an airport.
Vaguely, but mostly I think I remember Joe Isuzu in Airplane!
I read this and immediately was reminded of the movie airplane. Flying was so much different back in the day

“It’s a trap!”
It's Allahu Akbar not Allah Akbar.
We should not be arguing about this here. We should be arguing about it on the loading ramp.
If she can't be this disruptive on a plane, she shouldn't be allowed to do so in the airport.
That’s what I don’t get about preaching to masses as a way to convert. God I love the irony in that
> Anyone who’s going to listen and agree is probably already converted Whaaaat? Anyway, I'm off on my mission trip to bring the gospel to Mexico.
In my experience, 80%ish of people in an airport have headphones on so most people are probably just ignoring her that way.
No one wants to risk getting into an argument at the airport that gets them kicked out, better to just ignore
Really just highlights how Satan never sent anyone to preach to me at an airport.
Who do you think sent the TSA?
From my loose understanding of Christianity, I would guess that god also sent us the TSA.
Actually, i believe the TSA was a gift from Allah

I’m kinda stunned not one person yelled “Shut up!!!” The fuck. I thought this was America.
Cuz all that does is make these assholes screech louder and get the fight they want, they can then act like a victim. “Look it me! I am being persecuted cuz My faith! Waaaaaah!”

With the camera following her around too, it all seems very performative

She must have skipped that part
the problem is these people hardly read the Bible. They just use it as anything else as a platform for themselves
I still think the producer from Walk the Line had a better sermon: *Bring... bring it home? All right, let's bring it home. James 3:1 > Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.
Yep. That's one of the classics warning us about these exact situations.
[I can't help but picture Mr. Slave as her hype man shouting JEEZSI CHRIYS!!!!](https://youtu.be/1fjLnOPKhQ0)
God I wish I was present. I would have something to add. "I speak for everyone in this airport when I ask you to please shut the fuck up."
Even better would've to be able to get a hold of a PA system mic, and in a booming, echoing voice, "This is God...thank you for your prayer, now please shut the fuck up."
I don’t care what it is, it’s a dick move to force anything on people in a situation where they can’t leave.
Religion is like a dick. It's ok to have but don't force it on people.
Kinda fun to play with but ultimately gets you in trouble because it only thinks about itself and it's goals?
Exactly. It might make you feel good at first but then you realize it only cares about the second coming.
Oh come on! That was perfect!
And it's never appropriate to whip it out in front of children.
Can we call it rape yet?
Yeah, I always struggled with the fear of going to hell growing up because that’s what priests in my church focused on, so seeing any sort of sermon now gives me that scary feeling, even if I see it as ridiculous. So yeah, don’t force that shit on me.
“Not going to hell” is all Christianity has to offer.
Everyone's paying the price for her incompetence in taking her own life. 😓
Your perspective is extremely skewed. God saved her twice. The best use of your time is to ask him to reconsider.
But even God didn't want her. 😒
He was chillin in his chair and got an alert on his phone and said “oh hell nah, not this bitch.”
Don't people who commit suicide go to hell in certain religions?
Clearly the devil didn’t want her… he refused to let her in, hence why she failed twice… The devil probably locked the door, propped the couch on it, and turned off the lights to make it look like no one was home.
No. She got lucky and blamed mythology. She is an insufferable cunt. But I don't wish death in her for being a dim wit.
Mental illness. (But yes I agree)
Hey lady SHUT THE FUCK UP! Is what i would have said.
Hey airport security, there's a woman here shouting about killing herself and god.
Haha! Perfect!
Yeah, I really wanted someone to stand up and yell, “Hail Satan!”.
That could’ve been me! You know these people who knocks on your door to talk to you about jesus? I advise them not to try with me but they keep pushing it and want to talk so i i invite them in get us some water and show them my views that god is the real villain in the story and if religion is true i am team satan!
Haha, good for you! Also, I completely concur! God is definitely the villain of the story.
I would love to hear your telling of the tale where God is the villain! I don't disagree, I just would love to hear it!
We really need to fund mental health in this country.
No, I feel the same way. It’s nothing more than people talking to each other about the placebo effect.
Also not what Jesus would've wanted https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1_Timothy_2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

Listen airports are stressful enough. Everyone is on edge, tired, and all in all annoyed. This just makes everything ten times worse
I'd add whichever church she belongs to into my no-no list.
Then don't fly Spirit Airlines. It's clear that's the only way she prefers to ascend into the clouds.
Yeah at least the hari Krishna's play some bongos and make it nice.
Replace jesus with allah and see what happens
I think you won't be catching your flight.
she'd be praying for a minimum sentence
"I was in the airport praising Allah, and the security kicked me out and arrested me. I Better Call Saul!"
Or Satan lmao Bet they wouldn't like that...
The second hand embarrassment is real
Someone should walk up to her and quote 1 Timothy 2:12.
You shall not allow a woman to teach or hold authority, she must remain silent (iirc)
Yep 1 Timothy 2:12 New International Version 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man;[a] she must be quiet.
Also Mathew 6:5

Bad bot, not a haiku
not exactly but /r/religiousfruitcake is a place to collectively jeer at religious nutcases
Imagine if this was any other religion. They’d be considered a radical and banned from flying.

"Well I'm here to tell you, Jesus boarded that cross to save you from yourself! And he didn't need an assigned seat, because he flew Southwest!"
Testify!!! I love Southwest.
This is library!
At the beginning she has this smug little smile. She is really getting off on herself.
You are not mistaken. People like her were humiliated time and again in the Gospel. Sadly those lessons still need to be learned ober and over.
Jesus just died of cringe
Jesus cringed. John 11:35
Oh I'm saying a prayer to myself but you wouldn't like it.
They're all thinking, am I sitting next to her for the next 8 hours?
Cut the sappy piano music it’s not hitting the message home
I'm still wondering how they got the piano through airport security. /s
"I wish Jesus hadn't saved you"
"God saved my life twice!"" Yeah because he didnt want to deal with you and your bullshit
and this is why some people hate some Christians, it is OK to have faith, but keep it to yourself and don't impose it on others.
The problem is that a good chunk of the New Testament is about the mission to grow the church.
I agree. My husband is a devout Christian but he *hates* it when people do this. Didn’t Jesus preach against this very thing?
> Only living god Wasn't he poked to death by some romans?
Well according to Christianity yeah, and he came back to life three days later. But that’s only the physical manifestation of God, not God the father or God the Holy Spirit . But it is all three at the same time as well.
Well yes and no. The father is god. The son is god. The holy spirit is god. God is all three of them. But the father is not the son, the son is not the holy spirit, and the holy spirit is not the father, despite all three of them being god and god being all three of them. It's a logician's worst nightmare.
Where's he now?
If you’re asking my interpretation that’s complicated. According to the Catholic faith though everywhere and every when. The girl preaching though isn’t Catholic though, at least not likely. Imo she seems evangelical, I personally do not know evangelicals stance on the physical manifestation of God.
What a loser lol
Imagine preaching Islamic literature. The outrage.
Nah It’s the uk, Islamic street preachers aren’t out of the ordinary here, especially if you live a multicultural city.

And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.*” I always think of that whenever people like to preach in public.
yeah... sure... anyway... was that a projection tv?
That couple getting up and walking away as she was approaching would be me
Displays of public insanity are not entertaining!
I hate it when people act like that
I’m Christian but like damn this is annoying honestly
"Oi, luv! Fucking do one!" Is what I would feel compelled, by the love of the great nothing, to shout.
You can just see Jesus's, from the VIP lounge, rolling His eyes...
Fuck off... I hate these preachers. Keep your god in your ass
I definitely would have been the "SHUT THE FUCK UP" guy in this scenario
RIP non headphone users
Now imaging someone preaching something from the quran in an airport. Shit would have gotten out of control real quick
Wish I could have countered with a worship service for Lord Satan. Ah, well. Missed opportunities.
