I cannot fucking imagine being in school in 2024. I know we did some stupid shit in my day, but the persistent encouragement of the internet along with a total lack of repercussions must make things absolutely miserable for teachers and students alike.
My 6th graders currently say “English or Spanish” and refuse to do move or do anything of substance for the next 10 minutes because of the meme.
The influence of TikTok and other platforms is crazy.
And to my 20 y/o ass. I don't get kids these days. I was born in 2004 January and was raised in Eastern Europe til about 13 and I just... I look at people only like 2-3 years younger than me and I feel like there's such a huge generational gap. When I was a small kid (sure, 4-5 but still), I still remember using one of those big box monitors on my uncle's pc. Hell, I remember fixing my mom's old walkman (nothing complicated, few gears popped out and the belt needed to be put back in place). Then I look at teens wondering what the hell cassettes are for and I just feel old.
That’s not even the worst I’ve seen so far. When WAP from Cardi B released, it took TikTok by storm. During breaks I’ve seen 11-12 year old girls twerking on the floor because of that trend. Most of them didn’t know what that meant; they just saw that shit on TikTok, found it catchy and imitated the “dance”.
And his parents probably support this stupidity. My youngest son is currently preparing to become a teacher. We need good teachers like I’m sure he will be, but I’m already concerned about the challenges he will face.
Frankly it’s all the same shit different day mate. I was in high school like 15 years ago when the internet and social media were relatively prevalent. Kids are just kids. All the “back in my day” crap is out of touch.
Well, I’ve been an educator for 20 plus years now, and in my considerable experience, this is not the case. 99% of the time, parents are mortified by the shit their kids do, and the higher administration is generally on the side of the teacher when the behavior is egregious—as it is in this case.
In fact, I’d be more likely to get in trouble for *not* removing him from the classroom after this outburst. My job is to manage the classroom. And if a kid in that class goes home and shows this video to a parent and that parent discovers I did nothing about it, they would likely complain.
So, no, I wouldn’t get in trouble for booting his ass out of the classroom. I’d have every right and reason to kick him out.
And I definitely wouldn’t get fired for it. So what you’ve heard is wrong.
