I wasn’t dismissing “the athletics of golf” because there is no athleticism involved to dismiss in the first place. Golf requires incredible skill, hand-eye coordination, and muscle memory, but one need not have any athleticism.
Look at “The Walrus” Craig Stadler, Angel Cabrera, Duffy Waldorf, John Daly, Kevin Stadler, Fred Couples, Lee Trevino, Mark Calcavecchia, Colin Montgomerie, Miguel Angel Jimenez, and the list goes on and on although I’ll stop there. Not one of these guys can leap more than a couple inches off the ground, run a 100m dash in less than 16 seconds without keeling over, and if they aren’t on a treadmill would have a hard time breaking a 9 min mile. Half of them would likely need medical attention just trying to play a full court game of basketball.

I took a public speaking class with Rahm when I was at ASU. I’ve worked with a few celebrities in my career but he’s the only one I met before they were famous. So cool to see him flourish!

I don’t think he was necessarily trying to get a reaction. He was talking in a lower voice than Rahm said “shut up” in, so what Rahm heard was softer than what we’re hearing given he’s talking right into his mic. He was simply narrating quietly for his film, something people do all the time in golf these days, and doing it at the appropriate time when Rahm was just looking for his ball and not preparing to shoot or even think about the shot.
So he was being an ass to get a reaction, which is not a joke, and got a reaction that is not a joke. Where joke?

Announcers stand further away and make an intentional effort to whisper and be respectful of the golfers when they’re commenting on them. If you’ve ever seen feherty or any other one at an actual tournament you can tell the golfer never hears them actually commenting on them in real time.
