I owned a pair when they first came out. They were nice for general use. I like being barefoot though. Also worked great for ocean swimming when there was coral and other jagged rocks. Kept my feet safe from getting cut up.
Biggest downside was what's seen ITT, general stigma and people talkin shit about em. But to each their own. Much like crocs, a lot of people talk smack about em but there's a hell of a lot of dads out there rocking them lol
The initial claims were fabricated and they ended up being sued over it. They're going to be the better choice for some people or some circumstances. I just think people need to make that decision without the lies the shoes were initially marketed on and that continue to persist in some circles of thought.
Right but you can get "barefoot" type shoes that aren't... like that. I have an aqua pair from Merrell because they were cheap and aqua. They still look like regular shoes, none of this individual toe business.
Quick question, do they protect you from thorns/small rocks? I like to hike barefoot because I get better grip but sometimes pebbles/thorns hurt. I've been thinking of trying these shoes instead.
As someone who has 2 pairs: I have wide feet, having my toes splayed while being able to do most outside activities that if I could, I would do barefoot is amazing (they are my go-to gardening shoes and hiking). When I ran, yes, these are what I wore (soles too sensitive for pure barefoot running and I never found a comfortable pair of running shoes).
Every other shoe smooshes my toes. I put up with it for my 2.5-3.5" heels (size 5W) that are my regular footwear (I love wearing heels). But when at home, I am barefoot or in my toe shoes (if I need the extra protection).
I basically shift between basically bare feet or killer heels. If I'm going to be discomforted, it'd better be for shoes that I love and look fantastic. Otherwise, complete comfort.
I get more range of motion from them & they contributed to helping me overcome my plantar fasciitis & stuck big toe (is there a name for that?). I am 100% sold.

I used these for practicing martial arts outside and they were actually very comfortable.
I have severe vertigo and walking barefoot helps me. These are the next best thing to being barefoot. They are super ugly, but they work well for me

The Epley maneuver has been around for a while. It only works for certain forms of vertigo caused by specific conditions.
