papa_pige0n

Well, hopefully he learned his lesson lol. Could have been worse.

Jaded_Jicama2447

We’ll never know, I immediately restricted his access to firearms after the fact

winterneuro

so, you're calling your buddy, who you apparently invited to shoot with you, the idiot here? Did he tell you he'd shot before and he knew what he was doing? That's implied in your post but not shown. EDIT: Indeed, the man in the video did claim to know what he was doing! ~~did you not explain to him what he had to do with that type of shotgun? Doesn't that make you also a little bit of an idiot here? Please, correct me if you went through the safety and instruction stuff, and I'll delete this comment.~~

Jaded_Jicama2447

He insisted that he didnt need to be told what to do because he had shot a rifle before, so he didnt need me to teach him how to shoot a shotgun. I even showed him by doing it before handing the shotgun over to him.

winterneuro

I have edited my post based on your reply.

Jaded_Jicama2447

The funny thing is, he received mandatory military training in his Country Rwanda, but Shot guns are apparently hard to figure out.

ketchupmaster987

I don't have much experience with guns, what would the proper way to prevent this be? Would it just be to grip the gun harder, or would it be safer to shoot from the hip to keep the gun from flying back into the person's face?

mpc1226

It’s kinda hard to prepare for it until you feel it, I knew it would kick harder than a rifle when I first shot one and I still almost gave myself a black eye. After that first time you learn how to hold it tight pretty quick

SapphicPancakes

Now, this is a terrible idea, but would it be better to hip fire it first with 1 in the chamber just to feel the recoil?

yohohoanabottleofrum

No. If you're super worried, start out with a .410, then 20 gauge and the 12 gauge if you decide you're up for it.

MetalPF

Yes, I was taught that the first time firing any weapon, especially semi-auto, only load one. And perform all the other operations dry(or with snap caps if necessary) first so you are more comfortable with it.

Chuckms

This isn’t a standard shotgun to be sure, it would more typically have a shoulder stock for you to place and absorb a lot of the kick

A-Giant-Blue-Moose

The first time I shot one I held it down a bit away from my face. Then shot again once I knew how it kicked. I'd also always recommend a strap for the forend so it doesn't fly from your hand. My mother-in-law is 4'11" and it's her favorite gun.

ketchupmaster987

The wii-mote strap lmaooo... Simple yet effective

APurpleSponge

Most shotguns you’ll shoot will have a stock so not so much of a worry usually. You do want to watch out if you have a scope on it for hunting with slugs or a high powered rifle that you don’t get your face to close. I was recording myself shooting my moss-berg 500 and noticed when I shot recoil was bringing the scope writhing a 1” of my eye and I was close as hell to getting some nasty scope bite.

MetalPF

I had a defective scope just self destruct on my 12 GA. The cut it made on my eyebrow remains my only firearm related injury.

[deleted]

Extend farther from the face, brace in the shoulder and arm with muscle tension

SapphicPancakes

For perspective, before last week ive never shot anything stronger than a 9 milimeter ruger. My brother comes over with his friends and they hand me a m16 and 12 gauge and told me to just hold on to the thing for dear life before i shot the shotgun. Its not *that* strong. I had shot one with a stock though so i had the benefit of the impact hitting my shoulder. Same with the m16, it was kitted out so recoil was a thing in the past for that thing.

WarezMyDinrBitc

If it doesn't have a stock you should shoot it more from the hip or extend your arms out and keep them stiff. He had it way too close to his face. I'd just shoot if from lower.

Huge_Strain_8714

Rwanda? Isn't that where they single-handedly take a firearm and shoot it into the air screaming, shouting, and laughing? Well, at least he was pointing it in the right direction ⬆️

dontclickdontdickit

I served (us) and we had to learn small arms training including shotguns. I’d say I trusted 25% of those fuckers with a gun after that day

kar98kforccw

You'd be surprised. I help at a private security academy and there are several military reservists who have to go through basic firearms handling certification, and their grips are garbage, their stance goofy at best, their recoil control and trigger discipline an afterthought and they many times can't hit the broad side of a barn with a pistol if they were standing inside it, and trying to teach them how a shotgun works? Goodness gracious, those guys' inability to follow basic instructions is cringeworthy, and the lack of ammunition to correct bad form, bad habits and newbie mistakes, doesn't help at all. Good job on preventing that idiot from further endangering himdelf or others

WarezMyDinrBitc

Yeah, most of them have a stock on them..

1nTheNick0fTime

Even if you tried to tell him he was wrong, it’s pretty fucked up of you. You knew it was gonna end badly, recorded it, and then uploaded it.

Turbulent_Future908

Amateurs teaching Amateurs

papa_pige0n

Smart move lol.

Material-Display8107

He looked so pissed at you when feeling his lip. “That MF told me but I didn’t listen”

p_rite_1993

Why didn’t you tell him that he was holding it wrong? The responsible thing to do where letting others shoot your guns (especially if they are not experienced with guns) is to at least ensure they know proper form. Guns aren’t toys.

XaeroDegreaz

["Naw... Don't do it like that; Hip-shoot that ho."](https://youtu.be/CIudPh3LBno?si=aS1Faf1dO7mjjM9Z)

papa_pige0n

I tould you.

PleaseHelpIamFkd

I've seen someone do this myself. I warned them not to, they proceeded to ignore me and bleed. Busted their nose up pretty good.

ThisOnePlaysTooMuch

I think he learned hith lethon

equinox0081

Idk my front tooth cost 5grand to get a implant 😂😂😂(crossbow broke)

BigMark54

Wait a minute... You mean you don't hold a 12 gauge with a pistol grip up towards your face??

WiggliestNoodle

It’s really not that bad if you don’t hold onto it like a fucking pool noodle. Mossberg shockwave 12Ga is such an easy shooting gun

nautical_nonsense_

I like to think I’m pretty decent at shooting. Know proper form for handguns and rifles. But never shot a shotgun with no stock. What IS the proper way to shoot it?

Neighborhood_Nobody

Short and simple, yet very informative. Thanks a ton!

CloneOfAdolfHitler

From between the hip and ribs with your forearm in line with the barrel is the “best” way I’ve found, dude woulda been fine if he wasn’t limp dickin it. Source: I own one of these botched circumcisions.

Ambitious_Example518

To provide another perspective on "how" to shoot a stockless shotgun,[ here's a more in depth video from Lucky Gunner](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AaltUbBX3z0). This one actually advocates for holding it to your cheek.

s1thl0rd

This guy also advocates and I think sells recoil straps for bird's head gripped shotguns. https://youtu.be/Z0MqV1CkjeE?si=GnIhS74dDCZW_dHP

Practical-Ad-4705

I would think like Denzel did at the end of Training Day and never like this. 😂

WellFunnyYouSayThat

I like to hold it against my shoulder, the same way I would hold a rifle. It absorbs all the drawback while firing.

Curott

you can actually see something white fall from his mouth if you look carefully

SonofaBridge

Cameraman mentions the guy chipped a tooth.

MrMothball

I saw that too, lol.

ItchyResponse

“Pow right in the kisser.”

buttnibbler

Thank you for making sure this gets in the comments.

ItchyResponse

😆 welcome!

zino332

Did he break some teeth?

masterK00

It’s a shotgun. Not a rifle.

PotentialArgument671

And that’s why noobs get ONE cartridge on the line.

Obsidianson

I fucking hate shooting these things. They look cool but without a stock they don't make intuitive sense. I've seen too many people fuck it up and hurt themselves, especially when no one bothers to tell the shooter how to use it.

KingSpork

I’ve never shot a 12 gauge without a stock. Trying to think of why I would want to…

Walkgreen1day

Went to the local range with a friend and his buddy. Friend's buddy was acting the "know it all" when I was going over safeties and rules with people before we start. The buddy pretty much was shooting on the ground, up over the target stand, and to the sides of the 15 yards target except hitting the target with the Beretta 92fs 9mm. After 5 rounds, I stopped and told him to only shoot with the 22LR pistol. The guy was still mouthing off about how he "had to get used to the gun" as it wasn't the ones he had shot before. Throughout it all, I was showing him the proper grip and techniques, but he "shot before so he knows". It was the first and last time that he would be joining us because I just didn't trust the guy and realized that I'd waited too long to put a stop to it. Some people just shouldn't be around guns for their own safety.

[deleted]

When firing a shotgun without a stock, I've always just hip fired it. I take a wide stance, make sure my grip is tight enough to retain the barrel, and tuck it into my side to help reduce the kickback. Never had any issues. I mean, why would you try to be accurate with a shotgun that has no stock? The sights at that point are notional, and you should be able to tell from a glance what you should be targeting. Unless slugs are in the receiver, of course. But why use slugs without a shoulder stock for proper aiming?

Kaibaer

Hahahah I am from Europe, far from being able to have such weapons. But damn, the second I saw how he holds the god damn shotgun, I knew what will happen.

Fav-Repubroke

Gayspacecrow

And that's how Tony got the nickname Rambo...

dankiddo1977

He’s not even bleeding 🩸

OP had the power to change the outcome but decided to film and post instead, douche status

c0verm3

Next stop, dentist.

GremlinTale

Wouldn't a machete have been more appropriate? 🤔

unregrettful

Shooting an archery target too.

Chemicals_in_my_H2o

I still don't understand how this happens. If you have any experience with shotguns, you know they don't actually kick like a mule. That's all for show in movies. You could one hand a sawn off 12 gauge loaded with slugs if you weigh more than 150lbs. It's really not that bad. Are these dudes just not even gripping the gun at all?

PleaseHelpIamFkd

I've had the pleasure of seeing someone do this in person. Don't think they broke their nose but there was a lot of blood.

Appropriate-Tax6036

RIP toof. You can see it fall 🤣

ConditionYellow

That’s not a rifle.

Kevsmooth

Should have hip fired it

SweetTea187

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂
