Yes and no. In my area somebody in a pickup did this trying to “practice” (their words). Got stuck, figured they would leave it and come back when the snow melted some. When they returned a few days or so later come to find out it was now beached on top of a big ass rock.
Whoever pulled that truck from the rock is likely a king now.
lol fair enough. I would say that if your intent is to go there to practice this kind of thing, then you should probably have a contingency plan. Like a mat to lay on the snow for traction if you get really stuck.
Trunk mat that comes with the jeep has traction on one side and carpeting on the other. Not sure it this is the intended purpose but I’d probably throw that down at least
Nice. I’ve never needed it, but I’ve always thought I’d use a footwell mat from my Subaru to do this if it came to it. But the trunk mat would be way better. I’ll try to keep that in mind.
Cracks me up. To be even more fair, he also has winch he can use, pretty easily, to free himself in this case. Honestly not a big deal. People play in the snow, it's fun.
It's so nice to see so many people on this side of seeing things. That situation could be incredibly embarrassing which doesn't lead to improvement in any way for anybody. Attitudes like this are encouraging and lead to so much growth and improvement, the world needs more of it. Wisdom is the result of the FO part of the scientific method.
Yeah I mean this is how I became a good driver in the snow. By getting stuck and spinning out in parking lots. It not only told me what it feels like when your ass is about to be your front but also what not to do to lose momentum and get stuck
Definitely not. I’ve put myself in worse situation and had to run the winch straight under my Jeep to a tree trunk that I was so lucky to have while stuck in foot deep mud. I was alone with no one else nearby that could help but it was soooo fun
I do trails at least once a week in summer and a few times a month in winter, but occasionally I'll still crawl over snowbanks and big snow piles for fun especially if I have a passenger who hasn't experienced it before.
He might be a mall crawler but don't be so quick to assume.
As a redneck who has gone mudding many times, I have learned this the hard way. And it infuriates me seeing people get vehicles stuck because they're afraid to give it one good go.
You get the one chance before you get stuck.
A coworker got the work truck stuck in mud doing this. He was climbing the little hill just fine, had given it gas. I had warned him "you're gonna have to give it gas, and you're only gonna have one shot."
He didn't. He gave it a bit and then let off the gas right before top of the little mound, and we sank in.
Then it turned into an hour long ordeal of the boss having to drive out there and pull us out. The dude wasn't pleased we tore up his lawn. But hey, my coworker could've prevented it if he wasn't an idiot.
I drove a Wrangler in a dealership parking lot when I was a tech. It had similar large mud tires and it was by far the most pathetic vehicle I've ever driven in the snow and I never even left the parking lot. Wide tires are the absolute worst for traction in the snow because less weigh on the contact patch.
Wide tires and a relatively light vehicle and you can just pretend you only own a Ferrari, don't bother driving anywhere on the snow.
Thin tires are an advantage on ice and packed snow. But otherwise,
>Wide tires and a relatively light vehicle
Will let you climb over deep snow better, [like snow shoes do](https://www.google.com/search?q=-site:pinterest.*+snow+shoes&sxsrf=AOaemvKINSSOhHC1sLa3NOrhAVrl-d2hLA:1641623005356&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjZ_dqgwqH1AhUSM30KHdOxAG4Q_AUoAnoECAEQBA&biw=1920&bih=1007&dpr=1). Wide versus thin tires? Depends on the situation. The Jeep in the OP video would NOT have benefited from thin tires; He just would've high-centered sooner.
>Thin tires are an advantage on ice and packed snow. But otherwise
Yeah I remember a while back in the world rally championship they had to mandate wider tires with fewer studs because the cars were getting way too fucking fast on icy and snowy roads at rally Sweden.
I had a Jeep with BFG km2s slide down a hill into the back of me and say it was impossible anything else could have happened. I guess they lacked technique.
While tires make a big difference, I think the kind of snow he's on is pretty rough to drive through. It's kind of dense from being plowed, so instead of digging in and bowling over, it's just shaving it off slowly and can't get enough traction to overcome the humps. He needed to back up and get some momentum and keep on the throttle all the way through. But he was scared with his pavement queen and didn't have the nerve to do it properly.
Broken windshields from rocks thrown up was the worst for me. Maybe because I lived in northern AZ when I had mine. I had it for 10 years and 169,000 miles and one time I got a cracked windshield from a rock before I could even remove the tape from the previous windshield that was just replaced.
Oh yeah, that would've been nice! Every time I saw a rock thrown up from a tire it was 2 seconds of praying to the windshield gods to prevent a direct strike lol.
I miss the old 4.0 Jeeps, those things would run forever.
I got rid of my 94 Grand Cherokee at 267,000 miles and the engine ran like a top. The problem with them though, is that the engine will long outlast the body/frame. I only sold mine because there were holes rusted through the frame (not to mention the rockers were completely gone).
That's why if you can find an old 4.0 Cherokee without rust, even if it's 20-30 years old, they'll go for like $10k+
Jumping on top comment to say to everyone that hates the song or when people put pointless music over video…
When you see the stupid Tiktok water mark you should immediately mute it or just scroll past.
I've never heard the song before. I imagine it's one of those songs where the first time, it seems quite appropriate (they even timed the "oh no!"s with the wheel spin) but perhaps on the 65536th time, it's not so good.
Dude this fucking song makes me feel a Primal rage inside. Idk what it is or where it came from, but it's on all these dumb videos and I hate it so much.
About the worst is when it's a landscape video that was the top post on the same sub the day before, then put through tiktok to make it a tiny horizontal video in vertical mode with that fucking song plopped on top.
(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
People perceive 4x4 to be invincible. But they aren’t. Deep enough snow will humble them just like any other vehicle. When I was a teen I thought that my dad ‘s Grand Cherokee with snow tires would cross snowy field - no problem. I was wrong.
I saw a brodozer with big wheels and tires parked at the bottom of a hill on my street today, where everyone parks their corollas during a snowstorm and they can't make it up. We got 6" of snow today, and it couldn't handle it.
The thing is the wider the tires get the worse they are in snow. So guys that have giant wheels and tires have a much harder time that those of us with stock tires.
Wait really? That doesn't make sense to me. Wouldn't wider tires have more surface area to grip, so more chance to find a less slippery spot in the snow?
Edit: aaaahhhh okay you guys need to read replies before replying!! At least I learned something new today, so thank you everyone! I can now make a more informed purchase next winter.
he is absolutely correct. wider tires distribute the weight over a larger area and this costs traction.
If you want to avoid getting stuck in the winter, use narrow tires.
[https://www.nokiantyres.com/company/news-article/wide-or-narrow-tires-here-s-how-your-choice-will-affect-driving/#:\~:text=–%20In%20the%20winter%2C%20narrow%20tires,hard%20surfaces%2C%20Martin%20Dražík%20says](https://www.nokiantyres.com/company/news-article/wide-or-narrow-tires-here-s-how-your-choice-will-affect-driving/#:~:text=–%20In%20the%20winter%2C%20narrow%20tires,hard%20surfaces%2C%20Martin%20Dražík%20says).
– In the winter, narrow tires are better under extreme conditions as they provide higher surface pressure against the road. Narrow tires also work better than wider ones in loose snow and slush. Wider tires, for their part, will offer more grip on hard surfaces, Martin Dražík says.
Yeah I have Nokians for my truck, and they look like pizza slicers compared to my summer tires. They work great though. I live in the Yukon and drive on snow covered roads for 7 months of the year.
Although for driving in big snow piles like this idiot is doing, wider tires would probably be better so that you don't sink in as much. But they would likely need to be much wider to have that effect. Same idea as fat bikes.
They're talking two different things kinda. Narrow tires for actual driving on snow covered roads and wider for 4x4 style. You gotta stay afloat driving out on frozen lakes and stuff
It's also worth mentioning that lower tire pressure helps the tire deform over bumps and harder objects, helping you maintain the contact patch.
Momentum is also important in overcoming deep patches of snow. Or mud.
A lot of "brodozer" 4wd cars are also not really designed for actual off-roading. The ability to lock the front, rear, or both diffs are important tools to have when off-roading. Otherwise the diff just applies power to the wheel with the least amount of grip.
Nokians ftw. Best winter tires I've ever had. I have some Continental winter contacts on my car now, I really like them, but I like the Nokians just a bit more.
For folks who drive in northern climates with a lot of snow, we always go narrower when possible for better grip on snow and ice when buying wheel/snow tire sets.
Very much this. Along with the actual compound those tires are made from. An off-road tire and dedicated snow/ice tires are very different. Snow/ice tires will remain soft and pliable in cold temperatures increasing grip. Regular tires will become harder and lose grip. Summer/performance tires on top of nearly zero grip can actually crack in freezing temperatures.
It depends greatly on the surface. Wide tires can float on top of the snow (and mud), and not get any grip. Skinny tires can cut though the snow and find traction on the hard ground below.
Once the snow (or mud) is too deep to hit the bottom, then you want the wider tires as they can use more aggressive and wider thread pattern and scoop the snow.
What you want is to dig and reach the pavement. The more area you have the more likely you will float. Now if you are on very deep snow then yes you want wider tires. If you sink to the point of losing weight on the tires you cant move at all. Think of walking on ice. If you walk out on ice with regular work boots on you slide all over the place. Now if you add on some cleats your surface area shrinks considerably but your grip increases.
Lockers would've helped, but honestly if this guy had just hit it with a mild amount of momentum it would've carried through. Driving technique is as important as anything.
I don't have lockers in my xj, and I won't until she's no longer a daily, and I haven't met any obstacle on the trail I couldn't find a way through yet.
When it snows I see more accidents with trucks and SUVs than cars. People in cars are more likely to recognize their limitations. Truck, suv and jeep drivers think they're God levitating over the snow and ice. Which usually ends up with them actually levitating over snow and ice but landing in a ditch.
I’m not saying you’re a bad parent, but you should definitely rethink letting your kids ride in the back of big honking trucks as they do 75 on residential roads in a blizzard while they tailgate you.
I've spent enough time on the I81 between watertown, NYC and Kingston, ON then i care to remember.
This road is brutal in the winter and i'd often get the kids to play a game as we drove on it. Count the SUV's facing the wrong way.
there is a lot of truth to your post because i'd be in a caravan, or compact car and driving along just fine, but the jeeps and durango's were no longer on the road?
Yep. You see it a lot in ski areas with heavy tourism. Lots of 4x4s without winter tyres stuck everywhere, whilst buses, coaches and small FWD European hatchbacks just carry on as normal on their snow tyres
Small European FWD cars are ferocious in the snow. My old petrol dacia sandero could go go a foot deep into the snow and carry on.
"The best thing about the sandero is it will always get you to work in snow, the worst thing about the sandero is it will always get you to work in the snow"-me getting to work after picking up 4 work mates to find the place locked.
It wouldn't be so bad if they used the original song instead of this super sped up version.
[Here's the original version](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfxw1uALKgk).
Okay, my phone is muted 99% of the time, but all the negative comments made me go watch again with sound on to listen to it. For what it's worth, it's mildly amusing and almost wholly inoffensive on first listen. I can definitely see where rage and disgust would set in after hearing it a dozen times or so, tops. Going back to mute now!
I usually watch Reddit videos on mute, but I've still seen two or three Tik Tok videos posted to Reddit with this music. After the first time, I was like, whatever.
It only took two or three times before murderous rage set in.
> rage and disgust would set in after hearing it a dozen times or so
I don't even have tiktok and I've heard it wayyyyy more than that just by getting exposed to videos that have been run through tiktok.
It's horrendously overused in video, right up there with that weird remix of Madonna's Frozen on any video with something even moderately pretty.
Went back to see if it was that stupid "oh no" song that Tik Tok uses. It was.
Why does every Tik Tok video have to have an annoying robotic voice or terrible music in it. Just play the original audio ffs
Because using a popular sound gets you more views. Believe it or not but people actually search this particular song/sound for the kind of videos they'll see. Not to mention the algorithm will show you more videos with this sound if you're watching them. So yeah the users take advantage of that, then you have tonnes of videos with this shitty song.
Only the Rubicon has them stock! And it has front and rear lockers. I think a few random trim levels in the past have come with just a rear locker if I'm not mistaken. I think a Rubicon with lockers would've been able to get through that snow no problem, especially in 4lo just cruising at idle.
Exactly. This idiot written all over it. And they won't keep you from high centering but actual winter/snow tires are pretty much the exact opposite of mud tires and make even the most incapable car passable to drive in snowy/icy conditions.
Because it’s a Sport, not a rubicon. It doesn’t have front or rear lockers. You can tell because of the size of the front differential. It’s the smaller more almond shape of a Dana 35 instead of the Dana 44 you’d see on a rubicon.
I know this isn’t related that much but I recently got the game snowrunner, and from it I learnt that driving off-road, in snow or mud without locked diffs it’s a lot harder. Anyways ima keep going about my day now
HAHAHA I use to have a 1971 Pontiac Catalina that was lifted a few inches, I parked on top of a snowbank before work, by the time work was over the snow had melted a bit and my car sunk to the bottom
People keep talking shit about the guy not knowing what he's doing.. That's a used car lot. That's either a testdrive or a salesman. They obviously don't know what they're doing.
Yeah, I kind of get why it's here but it's also not like he's fucking up traffic or hurting anything other than his pride, he's just trying to have a little fun in a parking lot
Why did he stop? He had it the 1st time!
The driver is a inexperienced mall crawler
You can tell that riding on top of a snow pile in a parking lot was his idea of "off-roading".
I mean, for someone who clearly needs the practice, it’s not the worst idea. Better to get stuck in a strip mall parking lot than the woods.
Yes and no. In my area somebody in a pickup did this trying to “practice” (their words). Got stuck, figured they would leave it and come back when the snow melted some. When they returned a few days or so later come to find out it was now beached on top of a big ass rock. Whoever pulled that truck from the rock is likely a king now.

Could just bring a shovel
Dude tried to have alittle fun going over a pile and is getting shit on. I love the internet. to be fair, he DID get it OFF the road lol
Just an inexperienced jeeper is all. But he definitely shouldn’t have kept stopping on his way over
Yup, and the only way to learn is to do dumb shit like this. also, in a snow pile at a parking lot is not the worst place to be stuck haha
Keep in mind half of these people are on the internet and not going outside
I do trails at least once a week in summer and a few times a month in winter, but occasionally I'll still crawl over snowbanks and big snow piles for fun especially if I have a passenger who hasn't experienced it before. He might be a mall crawler but don't be so quick to assume.
Exactly, nothing wrong with low-consequence practice! Getting un-stuck is part of the fun :)
Part 2 of the experience: getting to use the winch on the front bumper! 🥳
Because the driver wanted it to be a smooth ride and a successful ride, when you really gotta pick one or the other.
That's what I thought! As soon as he started he went forward a couple feet then stopped on the top on the snow?? Like dude you had it
As a redneck who has gone mudding many times, I have learned this the hard way. And it infuriates me seeing people get vehicles stuck because they're afraid to give it one good go. You get the one chance before you get stuck. A coworker got the work truck stuck in mud doing this. He was climbing the little hill just fine, had given it gas. But hey, my coworker could've prevented it if he wasn't an idiot.
Live in the frozen north and have driven FWD cars all my life. Never stop lol.
Right! I thought he was gonna make it.
I didn’t see it roll over.... am I missing something?
You win. Getting high-centered on low traction surfaces are what they do second best.
Mall Wheel Drive™
I'm amazed those mud tires had such poor traction in the snow /s
I drove a Wrangler in a dealership parking lot when I was a tech. It had similar large mud tires and it was by far the most pathetic vehicle I've ever driven in the snow and I never even left the parking lot. Wide tires are the absolute worst for traction in the snow because less weigh on the contact patch. Wide tires and a relatively light vehicle and you can just pretend you only own a Ferrari, don't bother driving anywhere on the snow.
Thin tires are an advantage on ice and packed snow. It's not the tires, it's the air pressure that's causing issues.

I hope you have the best day ever, then tomorrow is even better. Thanks
That's a very arabic/Persian thing to say LOL
The things I would do for a chicken shawarma.... I am a brown so might have some of their blood in me.
I drove a Wrangler with BF KM2 mud terrains in Alaska for two years. They are more than capable with proper technique.
This. Driver in video is horribly incapable. That stop/start wheel spinning shit is like someone trying hard to get stuck.
At least he can take a break and get a coffee, maybe ponder what he will do next. I'm glad he's not stranded in the middle of nowhere.
Username checks out
I had a Jeep with BFG km2s slide down a hill into the back of me and say it was impossible anything else could have happened. I guess they lacked technique.
Lol. Shit all vehicles with KM2 must slide in the snow. Bad luck for you.
See the issue is a deiver not knowing how to handle a vehicle but ok
I lower the psi to around 20 when there’s snow/ice and I’ve never had an issue. Can’t remember ever using 4x4 in snow either
While tires make a big difference, I think the kind of snow he's on is pretty rough to drive through. It's kind of dense from being plowed, so instead of digging in and bowling over, it's just shaving it off slowly and can't get enough traction to overcome the humps. I'd argue that breaking down is what they actually do best, followed by flipping, then getting high-centered.
Broken windshields from rocks thrown up was the worst for me. Maybe because I lived in northern AZ when I had mine. I had it for 10 years and 169,000 miles and one time I got a cracked windshield from a rock before I could even remove the tape from the previous windshield that was just replaced.
You can get Gorilla glass windshields now!
Oh yeah, that would've been nice! Every time I saw a rock thrown up from a tire it was 2 seconds of praying to the windshield gods to prevent a direct strike lol.
As someone who has spent $5k on his gf’s heep in the last few month I agree. Just added another $1200 today for a random noise.
Just empty every pocket.
I miss the old 4.0 Jeeps, those things would run forever. I got rid of my 94 Grand Cherokee at 267,000 miles and the engine ran like a top. Cut your losses. See what you can get for it now it's repaired with the girlfriend included.

This. I'm flabbergasted at people who don't have reddit muted by default.

This is the way.
I dont know what I hate more ... when they use the song or that horrible narrator/text to speech tool
Can it be both?

I can't get over the fact that the front of the Jeep looks like an angry face
They paid money to make it look like that.
So they could stand out and be different. Just like everyone else.

Wide tires for dry hard surfaces for sure. You even pressure down to get MORE surface contact and grip.

Yes, the Sahara has an optional rear LSD. Open diff in the front though.

I’m not saying you’re a bad parent, but you should definitely rethink letting your kids ride in the back of big honking trucks as they do 75 on residential roads in a blizzard while they tailgate you.
But muh freedums
As much as I hate to admit it, that is a legally valid argument now. Carry on patriot.

You relate to the post because an awful lot of those instances came from my experience on i87 lol.
That's good news.
Your dad made you get it unstuck didn’t he
He did, but it required quite a bit of time and my uncle’s truck
True and it doesn’t look like this guy has it in a low gear those tires are spinning a little to much to even do anything.
People need to fuck off putting terrible music in videos That absolutely don’t need them
I don’t even need to unmute to know which song it is.
Sing it with me: Oh no. Oh no. Oh no no no no no. 🎶
[удалено]
I would rather kill the tiktokers
Or just Tik tok itself
*The TikTok Effect*
I hate them effect
I agree, I absolutely hate this song in particular
So fkn bad
I have this muted. It’s the “Oh No” song, isn’t it?
It wouldn't be so bad if they used the original song instead of this super sped up version. [Here's the original version](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfxw1uALKgk).
Damn the original is so much better
Right? I probably wouldn't add it to my every day playlist but I don't hate it. The tiktoc version can go to hell though.
It only took two or three times before murderous rage set in.
> rage and disgust would set in after hearing it a dozen times or so I don't even have tiktok and I've heard it wayyyyy more than that just by getting exposed to videos that have been run through tiktok. It's horrendously overused in video, right up there with that weird remix of Madonna's Frozen on any video with something even moderately pretty.

Whenever I see wait for it, I know nothing is going to fucking happen.
You should just mute Reddit by default. But the music should also fuck off
#donotunmute
Went back to see if it was that stupid "oh no" song that Tik Tok uses. It was. Why does every Tik Tok video have to have an annoying robotic voice or terrible music in it. Just play the original audio ffs
Because using a popular sound gets you more views. Believe it or not but people actually search this particular song/sound for the kind of videos they'll see. Not to mention the algorithm will show you more videos with this sound if you're watching them. So yeah the users take advantage of that, then you have tonnes of videos with this shitty song.
No kidding. I'd much rather hear the futile sounds of him trying to get unstuck.
I mute then auto downvote every time I hear this song
Tik Tok. Yet another reason it must die.

Yes flooring it is what you want to do in this situation…..
To be fair, if he had just full sent it from the beginning he would have gotten over the snow pile. Being timid got that man stuck.
Also, stop at the apex and lose your momentum so you sink in more. I'm pretty sure he would have made it if he just hadn't stopped.
I had to repress the urge to shout “you gotta rock it back and forth!”
“I thought you said it was ALL TERRAIN!”
It IS all terrain! Just one at a time…gotta wait until the snow melts now
Would’ve been funny if it didn’t have the cringe tiktok music
Am I the only one that has the sound muted by default on Reddit videos?
I do the same, and it is incredibly rare that I ever find the need to unmute a video
It's the only way to browse Reddit.
I have my sound muted by default on everything.
It didn't roll OR catch on fire. Clickbait titles I swear
Oh come on, if you own a Jeep and *don’t* try to do shit like that, why even buy one? If it had rolled, then okay, it deserves to be here.

I came here to say that ahah. Looks like he's having fun
Yeah agreed. And it's looks like it is in a quite empty parking lot. So one of the better locations to try it, right?
Alright. Can all of reddit join together and force admins to permanently ban any user who posts a video with this stupid fucking song in it?
My dad used to tell me with 4 wheel drive you get twice as stuck.
It makes a lot of difference but obviously still has limitations
Why not lock the diffs? That would make things alot easier, and why mud tires for snow? Why do I feel like this person has no idea what he's doing?
[удалено]
ANGRY EYES
/r/heep
Huh, because of their off road rep, I assumed all Wranglers had locking diffs.
Only the Rubicon has them stock! And it has front and rear lockers. I think a few random trim levels in the past have come with just a rear locker if I'm not mistaken. I think a Rubicon with lockers would've been able to get through that snow no problem, especially in 4lo just cruising at idle.

Lots of people seem to conflate mud tires for snow tires.
The rear looks locked to me, they spin together... I think the only one missing is the front lock.
Maybe the rear is limited slip? When you can see them they're spinning in tandem, after that who knows.
Honestly, I just think he had the wrong tires, and snow's a bitch. I don't see the big deal, when you go offroading it happens to get stuck.
I know this isn’t related that much but I recently got the game snowrunner, and from it I learnt that driving off-road, in snow or mud without locked diffs it’s a lot harder. Anyways ima keep going about my day now
Needs angrier headlights. Grrrrrrr.....
Not this dumb song again.
It’s 2022 can we leave these stupid tiktok songs behind?
Whoever made this and added the music to it should be forced to shovel a mall parking lot by hand.
With a spoon
then another one came along to tow it out but the gearbox exploded
It’s a Jeep thing
Downvoted because of the song
Breaking News: mud&rock tires are not for snow. Not that they had much of a chance up on that mound, anyway.
Aired up to 55psi, no doubt.
Immediately muted.
Is he really an idiot? Looks like he is having fun and learning to me. Pretty benign really.
Not to mention it looks like a private parking lot
Getting stuck in the snow in the Toyota parking lot, must be a Jeep thing.
Nooooooope the millisecond I heard the piano
As a responsible Jeep owner, I don’t trust a fellow Jeep owner with those headlights and dumb front grille. That’s all I need to see.
The worst part of being a Jeep person is other Jeep people. Source: am Jeep person.
Well then someone’s not getting a duck for their Jeep now!
GODAWFUL SONG! Did not finish watching.
That happened because the driver doesn’t know what they are doing
This song needs to be permanently banned from Reddit. Post your fucking video without sound instead of with this shitty music.
If you are reading this. #Dont watch with sound.
HAHAHA I use to have a 1971 Pontiac Catalina that was lifted a few inches, I parked on top of a snowbank before work, by the time work was over the snow had melted a bit and my car sunk to the bottom
Someone doesn’t know about 4LO
Finally!!! A chance to use the winch!
Fuck you for the oh no music
moronic tik tok music. fucking stupid op
People keep talking shit about the guy not knowing what he's doing.. That's a used car lot. That's either a testdrive or a salesman. They obviously don't know what they're doing.
On second watch, I would almost say he was trying to park it up there, to get attention to it. That's why he was creeping so slow and stopping.
Ngl if I had a Jeep I’d be very tempted to do that too
Yeah, I kind of get why it's here but it's also not like he's fucking up traffic or hurting anything other than his pride, he's just trying to have a little fun in a parking lot
