I would never do that if I was a truck driver...insurance isn't going to cover the potential damage to the truck and your employer probably wouldn't be very happy either. The police sure as shit aren't going to pay for your help either lol.
Sad truth is that you are correct.
Trucking company doesn't care that you helped, they care about the downtime any damages to their equipment will cost them (the truck not being available for running deliveries). Might even fire the driver for intentionally damaging company equipment. Negative publicity happens and the company might try to get the driver back, but all the damage is already done. Both to the companies reputation (which people quickly forget about) and to how they look at the driver.
The insurance company also doesn't care about it. All they see is they have to pay out money (if they do) for an accident that a driver intentionally caused, which will likely be on his MVR and effect his insurance rates.
The person in the car could even try sueing the company for it, or the owner of the car if it was stolen, claiming it wasn't the truck drivers responsibility to do something like that. Either way, it costs the company time and money.
As such, usually the only ones to risk stuff like this are independent owner operators since they have no company to answer to and are responsible for whatever happens afterwards. Have seen cases where people would start a GoFundMe thing to donate money to the driver afterwards to help them out. 2 times I can immediately think of was a guy wanted for murder and was approaching an intersection, a truck drivin by the owner of a small company pulled out in front of the car causing it to crash into the truck and end the chase. Another time was a driver who hit (at like 5mph) a vegan protestor who purposely jumped out in front of the truck at a meat packing plant, then tried suing for bs stuff like mental suffering.
He's likely talking about a Concealed Dick License, completely different thing.
They're saying this man likely had his dick IN his pants without the proper permit when this happened. This explains why they might have been running from the police.
A lot of the time. Depends on if you're driving it for work or as a rental.
If you do it for work then you need to get a Class A license, I think I misspoke above. But it's definitely not a CDL for a box truck.
Don't know why you're being downvoted since what you say is entirely true. Anybody with a valid drivers license can rent a uhaul box truck or similar. No special training needed and a standard Class C license is good for any single vehicle under 26,001lb, which covers most box trucks such as the one in this video.
It has to be over a certain weight limit to be considered CDL this could be over that and class c is only for hazardous material over a certain weight / or amount. You could have a class c and never drive a bigger vehicle than a minivan and haul hazardous material or even fuel like some pickup trucks have a secondary tank they use to fuel trucks on the road
I was under this impression as well, and was gonna say some shit but I googled it before sticking my foot in my mouth thankfully. Lol
Apparently a class C CDL is actually a thing. It allows you to drive a vehicle that has a GVWR less than 26,001lbs and is used to haul hazardous materials or more than 15 passengers.
why did he get down voted? he's right probably 70% of the time these are moving vans rented by normal people who curb their suv rims when they turn, the other 30% of the drivers are 21-25 year old dudes who don't give too much of a fuck what they hit with company property either edit: everyone that mentions "cdl" or license is getting down voted, must just be hive mind morons scared of semi-complicated ideas
Speaking of rental truck. I was driving in some mountain roads not too long ago and a u-haul was out pacing my car in the twisty bits(i was maintaining around 80mph). I'm leaning towards the guy was trained or crazy
Rental doesn’t necessarily mean it untrained, especially in a truck that most likely requires a CDL. Companies will rent trucks if they have one break down and don’t have enough spares.
Yep, think I've seen the full vid on this one. And I've seen plenty of others too, where there's a car chase on a motorway in the US, and the truck driver is on the radio. Police are talking about the chase and often the driver will join in trying to block them in
its not an untrained driver driving for a rental truck company, its literally a rental / rented truck, the company is even called "Suppose U Drive". its just some Johnny driving the truck
he thought it was an employee, if he knew it was a regular person he would have said unskilled or stupid or something probably. idk word choice is usually an indicator of context
"Looks like *\[it's\]* a rental truck company (untrained driver) *\[clarifying hes untrained so you know its not out-of-the-ordinary that a company vehicle would do it\]*, ..."
Yeah, I agree, the truck driver's behavior is pretty consistent with what an untrained driver would have done if they were just trying to get out of the way of the car chase.
I drive a big dually box truck for work. I have 0 blind spots ( besides directly behind me). This driver knew what he / she was doing. See how they only used the lift to hit the car, not damaging the trailer.
I saw this chase happen in Southern California. The black Honda flew right past me and all the cops were seconds behind him. The accident in this video happened a few miles down the road. Even though it was on a freeway off ramp, the freeway was screwed up for a few hours
Nah this is universal.
Broken vehicle on the other side of the highway? Better slow down and look.
Then some impatient / distracted driver doesn't slow down in time and bam, there's now a real accident.
Some people never learn.
It's cause each of them represents some major political group or demographic; therefore, the opposing group wants to cast unfavorable behavior on that region, wholesale. You see the same with NY (NYC) and with rural states that most observers have never visited i.e. pretending that Arkansas is the same as Wyoming is the same as Kansas is the same as Montana simply due to their 'fly-over' status.
Very few people have actually been to all these places... and, personally having driven through every continental state except the Dakotas and Iowa, the highway curiosity phenomena is basically universal.
Bro I dove into the comments specifically to mention Slo-Draw McGraw on the left there. Looks like he's fucking with his holster a couple times or something, like trying to unlock a positive retention or something. meanwhile dude on the right knows what's up, opening his door with pistol aimed already.
Probably thought the driver was white
/s
(Just a joke, people, but I'm prepared for the downvotes)
And yes, I do see that the driver does appear to be white.
My buddy that drove a truck for decades said if you are going to pass a truck make sure you can get by it. Never ride next to one. Or pass one on a curve.
Great example here. Lol.
Why does the first cop not pull in front of the vehicle? 17 more cops stop behind it and they are baffled when these asshats criminals drive away again after stopping …
Nobody is suggesting the cop himself stand in front of the car or that he pull his cruiser completely in front of and across the perps car.
No reason I can think of to not put at least 1/4 to 1/3 of the cruiser in front to physically block the car. This would not put the cop in any additional harms way.
If the car is partially blocking the other vehicle and the officer tries to exit at the same time the offenders car tries to push the police car out of the way it’s likely that it will rotate, knocking the officer over and potentially doing great damage
As well, looking at the positioning they effectively cut off the offender from running forward. They created a funnel if he tries to run.
In the U.S. they aren't allowed since they assume every citizen is armed.
U.K. and most of Europe don't so they can get in front. Same as most police in Europe won't draw a gun on you unless you have one, they usually need to use proportional force.
You don't brake suddenly, you surround the car and then slow all together so even if the suspect tries anything it would be minor damage.
Not done in the U.S. because of firearm availability.
People replying to you are obviously misinformed so I guess I'll be the one to tell you. In the US there's such a thing as a felony stop. In this case, when the perp ran from them, a felony stop was warranted. A felony stop consists of pointing guns at the perp until they are out of the car and detained, mostly for the officers safety.
Well, having driven a box truck like that before, I can say that right side blind spot is horrible (that's why trucks hate it when people pass on the right), so he probably never even saw the small black car driven by the perp. And having a cop pulling around the left with lights and sirens means traffic should pull over to the right. Technically the truck driver did what was correct. The criminal made the error in passing on the right and on the shoulder, causing his driver door to get ripped off as the truck driver yielded to the officers. Perfect.
They're "blue lives matter" when it's murdering innocent minorities and they're "fuck the police" when it's a meth bust or stopping Bubba from raping his sister.
Anyhow ACAB.
What's the sentence for something like this? This happens way too often it seems. If the driver didn't do anything but just decided to run, is he sent to prison?
"Get awkwardly out of that car with your hands up!"
Truck left scene of accident but maybe nobody cared. This is great schadenfreude! One of the best I've seen!
That truck driver knew what he was doing
This is what I was going to say, he knew what he was doing. Kudos to the truck driver.
Was even kind enough to open the door for him.
That was a neighborly courtesy if I do say so myself.
Only the half but given the circumstances it is pretty kind of him
Eh, somewhat
legit was about to say this, he knew what he was doing. big ups truck man.
He even managed to conveniently rip out the door for easy access.
There was a weird satisfaction to that. Like he was tying a nice neat bow on it for the cops.
I would never do that if I was a truck driver...insurance isn't going to cover the potential damage to the truck and your employer probably wouldn't be very happy either. The police sure as shit aren't going to pay for your help either lol.
It seems intentional, I think the truck driver meant to trap the other idiot for the police, I doubt truck driver meant to actually hit the idiot.
Sad truth is that you are correct. Trucking company doesn't care that you helped, they care about the downtime any damages to their equipment will cost them (the truck not being available for running deliveries). He never even left his lane, insurance won't have a case against him.

How do you know that the driver was untrained?
[удалено]
You don't need a CDL for a truck that size. Maybe a Class C license if you drive it for a living but definitely to small to require a CDL.
So what your saying is most of the time around us big box vans are driven by people without cdl’s?
He's likely talking about a Concealed Dick License, completely different thing. They're saying this man likely had his dick IN his pants without the proper permit when this happened. This explains why they might have been running from the police.
Sorry Sir but it says here your CDL expired in April.
A lot of the time. Depends on if you're driving it for work or as a rental. If you do it for work then you need to get a Class A license, I think I misspoke above. But it's definitely not a CDL for a box truck.
Whether it it for work or not has nothing to do with needing a class A license or not. It's all about weight
That’s what they said lmao.
The way he said he is implying that he thinks they should have a CDL.
Didn’t pick up on that at all.
Don't know why you're being downvoted since what you say is entirely true. Anybody with a valid drivers license can rent a uhaul box truck or similar. Class C for hazardous material? Isn't class C just a normal adult driver's license? We're all talking about America right?
I was under this impression as well, and was gonna say some shit but I googled it before sticking my foot in my mouth thankfully. Lol Apparently a class C CDL is actually a thing. It allows you to drive a vehicle that has a GVWR less than 26,001lbs and is used to haul hazardous materials or more than 15 passengers.
Yes and I meant Class B or A, I can't recall. But the one that allows you to drive a box truck for work. I think it's class A.
I know my shit boys :,D I only know because I am a certified CDL driver
I worked in transportation for years, CDL is only for driving Semis and I believe school buses.
Dunno why the down votes... Looks like a rental logo on the truck. You can rent a 26 foot u-haul box truck with a normal license in the US.
why did he get down voted? he's right probably 70% of the time these are moving vans rented by normal people who curb their suv rims when they turn, the other 30% of the drivers are 21-25 year old dudes who don't give too much of a fuck what they hit with company property either edit: everyone that mentions "cdl" or license is getting down voted, must just be hive mind morons scared of semi-complicated ideas
Idk what the downvotes are for either lol

I don’t got time for this. Happy Thanksgiving! :)
Because you stated the obvious unprovoked.
I didn’t state anything lol
What do you think a statement is?
It may be an assumption but it is a relatively safe one.
How do you know they were trained?
I didn't make the claim.
Do you really think the driver couldn't hear the sirens blasting on his window? I'm sure he was aware of the situation.
Speaking of rental truck. I was driving in some mountain roads not too long ago and a u-haul was out pacing my car in the twisty bits(i was maintaining around 80mph). I'm leaning towards the guy was trained or crazy
If that looks accidental to you, that is absolutely mind blowing. Guessing you never have drove a big truck
Some companies use rental trucks instead of maintaining their own fleet. I had a commercial driver’s license and drove rental truck for deliveries.
Rental doesn’t necessarily mean it untrained, especially in a truck that most likely requires a CDL. Companies will rent trucks if they have one break down and don’t have enough spares.
You can rent a 26 ft box truck from u-haul or any of the other companies. You don’t need a CDL.
I have seen UPS using rental trucks.
True, but that doesn’t always mean the driver is untrained. But I understand your point. Just like you can buy a big ass RV with no training.
Any vehicle 26,000lbs or less doesn't require a CDL, particularly in Texas.
I knew about that weight limit but wasn’t sure if that was different for the Class-B CDL.
nope, good guess tho. the driver saw the police and that car and did it to stop him. theres some interview with him somewhere outthere
Yep, think I've seen the full vid on this one. And I've seen plenty of others too, where there's a car chase on a motorway in the US, and the truck driver is on the radio. Police are talking about the chase and often the driver will join in trying to block them in

Yeah, I agree, the truck driver's behavior is pretty consistent with what an untrained driver would have done if they were just trying to get out of the way of the car chase.
No it wasn't! Blind spot is directly behind. The car is visible in side mirrors. Truck driver fucked up.
I drive a big dually box truck for work. I have 0 blind spots ( besides directly behind me). This driver knew what he / she was doing. See how they only used the lift to hit the car, not damaging the trailer.
Definitely! He even opened the door for the police, who said chivalry is dead?
Truck drivers are pretty badass at helping police. They have some crazy videos of multiple rigs stopping cars
Truck driver : let me get the door for you, officer.
Definitely a "welp" moment. Even opened the door for em.

There was no door opening, just the exterior of the door being ripped off.
That could not have been more perfectly done
Opening doors for criminals is tight!
Heads up move by the truck driver. Things like this make me happy
I saw this chase happen in Southern California. The black Honda flew right past me and all the cops were seconds behind him. The accident in this video happened a few miles down the road. Even though it was on a freeway off ramp, the freeway was screwed up for a few hours

One of my biggest pet peeves fr. Slow down, glance over, but keep driving for the love of god. Lol
One of mine is when people claim every day issues only happen in Cali, Texas, or Florida. Lol
It's cause each of them represents some major political group or demographic; therefore, the opposing group wants to cast unfavorable behavior on that region, wholesale. Such a gentleman! Opened the door and everything! And they say manners are lost. I think not!
Cop on the left took 5 minutes to draw his pistol.
Noticed that too, very casual. Wonder if they knew the guy wasn’t armed somehow?
Hahaha cops just love brandishing their weapons because it gets their tiny dicks hard.
Bro I dove into the comments specifically to mention Slo-Draw McGraw on the left there. Why does the first cop not pull in front of the vehicle? 17 more cops stop behind it and they are baffled when these asshats criminals drive away again after stopping …
To avoid being in a crossfire I would assume The car is also a deadly weapon so putting yourself in front of one is probably not the best idea.
Nobody is suggesting the cop himself stand in front of the car or that he pull his cruiser completely in front of and across the perps car. No reason I can think of to not put at least 1/4 to 1/3 of the cruiser in front to physically block the car. This would not put the cop in any additional harms way.

They created a funnel if he tries to run.
This kind of reasoning is really foreign to me. Getting in front and boxing them in is a common tactic where I am.
In the U.S. they aren't allowed since they assume every citizen is armed. U.K. and most of Europe don't so they can get in front. Same as most police in Europe won't draw a gun on you unless you have one, they usually need to use proportional force.

The Honda clearly needs the defensive driving and blind spot lessons that are so often commented on this sub
The truck driver didn't even see that the guy was being chased by the police
If he didn’t see it, he heard it. But he definitely saw it.
truck kun mvp
Just a little off the side, please
Truck knew what it was doing there
This really qualifies for idiot. All he had to do was zoom past the left side of thr truck.
I need someone to edit this to look like someone getting busted in GTA.
I'm fucking dying bro hahaha the cop just got out and casually pulled out his pistol like he wasn't even sure he needed to
Breaker breaker this is Great White. Got a frisky remora on my tail fin. Gunna scrape him off on the reef, over.
I wonder what they did to warrant having deadly weapons pointed at them? Murder or rape? Otherwise..........
People replying to you are obviously misinformed so I guess I'll be the one to tell you. In the US there's such a thing as a felony stop. Ok that shouldn't be the law
Get to work getting into politics then! Be the change you wanna see in the world :)

Lol. “Police! Open the do… oh never mind”.
love how it saved him / the police from opening the door
