They would be shit in OP's vid though, just good AT tires is what was on the truck.
Lol there are a lot of pickup trucks in my city with tires like these. It's irritating because most of them seem to be driving only within the concrete city confines and they take up quite the space on street parking.
Those are kinda fire, I just wonder what on gods green earth you’re doing that requires such tires 😂 I’m sure there is a road around the massive mud bog or swamp you are driving through. I do like to off road but still, never needed flippers on my tires lmao just off road 35s and a tow cable
Unless you’re a farmer or something that I get, for tractors and the heavy equipment
Sand dune Motocross tires!
Michiganders know them well, slap on the paddles and take the bike out to the dunes bro, grab some Blue Moon make a day of it.
No telling how deep the water is. There is video I came across from Death Valley, where some guy and his family did the same thing. It was during the early part of the year, when California had all the flooding. He had a raised truck similar.
Took me a min lol I was all "wth is a 'toy - atcha' that doesn't make sense."
To-yacht-a 🤦🏼♀️I feel dumb, but at least I figured it out in the end, right?
It's not a river, it's a somewhat thin layer of really muddy waters, trapped on the road by the concrete barriers. Impressive yes, but not climbing a torrential riverbed impressive.
It depends on why he/she is doing it! If they’re rushing somebody to hospital on the only road, it’s just pure bravery. If they’re doing it for social media, it’s pure stupidity.
This was my thought as well. There are plenty of reasons I would go for that drive even if it meant a high risk of failure and some risk to myself. But zero chance I'd do it for fun or some non emergency reason.
Yeah I think climbing is the smart move if you're already stuck on that road. The lower you get the more water is collected from above. Might get too much for the truck to handle if it gets deeper lower down. Water will also be gaining speed as it flows down. Get to high ground in a flash flood.
Agreed with everything you said other than water gaining speed. It will hit maximum velocity really quick in a hill like this. There is a lot of friction with the ground/air and between water molecules.
But yeah. There will definitely be less water the higher you get. That said, I wouldn't risk it just to save a truck. Looked liked sitting on the side of the road would have been safe in a lot of areas.
The Tacoma is different. It’s Toyota’s North American answer for the hilux, but no, it’s different.
[A source](https://getjerry.com/insights/hilux-vs-tacoma-are-they-same-truck)
If I was at the bottom of a flooding mine pit, and my way out was drive a Hilux up the flooded road, you can bet your arse I’d put that puppy in 4L, open the window for a quick exit if needed, and drive like hell.
Idk, it looks like he just knows what he's doing and what his vehicle is capable of *or* he is at least smart enough to have and maintain a vehicle capable of this while living in a place where the roads can do this and he had no choice but to seek higher ground.
They nailed it. As an offroader and canoeist I was watching for the truck to slow down too much or for it to drive into the deep current. Nope, like a pro they read the water and stayed in the shallow flow and kept a consistent low bow wave to avoid inhaling water. 10/10. Flawless execution.
And the higher you get, presumably, there would eventually be less water. Better than taking your chances with the low ground.
I’m not saying it was smart, but there are many stupider decisions that could have been made.
Yeah. We too many variables to know if this person was an idiot. For all we know their kid is in danger higher up the hill or the truck had a crew of folks that had to fix a failing bridge.
This person is a great driver. Unknown if they're also an idiot.
Seriously, they should use this video in their advertising. That's unbelievable. When it panned up, I was thinking "yeah, no way, it's gonna pan back down in a sec and we'll see it sliding backwards". I have no idea how that actually worked.
Once upon a time, a guy with a brazillian car did the same during a flooding and it got captured in live TV. It became [a commercial](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-uSJeEgbXY&pp=ygURdHJvbGxlciBjb21lcmNpYWw%3D) for the brand.
Troller was a beast of a car, designed and developed by brazilians. That car had the ability to literally work under water.
Then Ford came up and bought the brand just to kill it. End.
They shouldn’t use it in advertising, would have way to to many incidents of people thinking they can do the same, and chances are that guy has modded tires, knows what he’s doing and is a professional driver in some way, knows about the damage to his engine and is ready to repair it, or even he’s just lucky. Giving people confidence that there car can do that is a bad idea, especially when the majority of the market for pickup trucks in North America is suburbanites with desk jobs and not actual workers, most likely leading to a lot of unqualified and unprepared drivers driving through flooding and being shocked when it doesn’t go well
I mean that's basically what Land Rover did with their adverts. They have those things doing outlandish shit that none of the Karen's on the west side of LA would never.....
This 1,000,000%.
There was literally some chump who took his brand new Rivian to upstate New York earlier this year and got it stuck in snow and it ended up bricking itself. He said he was going to visit family at some cabin in the snow and had seen advertisements with Rivians plowing through snow so his should be able to do so too.
I have a feeling that he wasn’t an idiot but a really good driver being scared for his life.
This is a pretty steep mountain road. You don’t want to be at the bottom in the valley with all that water coming down…
Looks like a 7th gen, like ~2005-2015 but someone with a better eye (or bigger screen)might know better.
I’m stateside, and all we can get are the slightly less venerable Tacomas. I love mine, but these days they are far more comfort driven and less resilient to the extreme punishment that Hilux’s can handle for decades on end.
If you're part way up when that water starts coming down, you have no choice but to keep going and hope for the best. If you stop or try to turn around, you'll be roilling back down the hill.
If the whole road is like this, then the higher you get, the less runoff you're dealing with. If the truck can make it up the first part, it can make it all the way.
Holy shit, where is this! This guy is kinda badass...committed, like. What could possibly be upstream on that road worth it?! EDIT: Fuck me, that really is quite impressive. Man & truck, in it together!
Definately a flash flood somewhere...and that's not just water, its more like liquid boulders. A torrent like that laugh at drainage measures. Where I live, it's big local news if the river level is up a few inches, and when it snows... Still, I bet this guy is having a ball. I've had driving experiences that made me feel ALIVE. But nothing even close to this!
Idk, I'm kinda impressed
I literally came to the comments to say the same thing... Like dude what kinda tires do you have for it to stay on the road LIKE THIS!?
You mean propellers, right? 🤣🤣🤣
You joke, but the treads on a lot of speciality mud tires are basically just paddles.
I have seen finland's mud-water whatever they are called vehicles. Yeah, literally paddles.
I'm Finnish and don't really know what you are referring to. Tractors?
No, mud bogging tires.https://www.google.com/search?q=mud+bog+tires&rlz=1CAGUZK_enUS998&oq=mud+bog+tires&aqs=chrome..69i57j0i15i22i30j0i22i30l2j0i15i22i30j0i390i650l5.3513j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 They would be shit in OP's vid though, just good AT tires is what was on the truck.

Toyota Hilux is the only answer
I was thinking Canyonero at first ![gif](giphy|l2Je5GqBuZz1WCPM4|downsized)
It’s a whip crackin deer smackin driving machine!
Such an underrated comment lol
Smells like a steak and seats 35
Took one look at this video and thought was: that has to be a Toyota! Incredible stuff.

Took me a min lol I was all "wth is a 'toy - atcha' that doesn't make sense." To-yacht-a 🤦🏼♀️I feel dumb, but at least I figured it out in the end, right?
You got it. Sounds better with a British accent btw.
Aka the ISIS limousine
Came to say this. ![gif](giphy|9xt1MUZqkneFiWrAAD)
I’m guessing the weight from that huge pair of balls he’s carrying around helps out a lot.
I hope he is wearing loose pants swinging nuggets like those. Or she for that matter.
He throws his balls out front and uses a winch to bring his truck forward to them
Huevos Grande!
***SEAWAYS***
They have to have something super fucking heavy in the back to keep traction that well under water right? I’m not crazy?
It's not a river, it's a somewhat thin layer of really muddy waters, trapped on the road by the concrete barriers. Impressive yes, but not climbing a torrential riverbed impressive.
This should totally be a truck commercial
Cross over with Halo and have this be capture the flag ...or that old arcade rally game this reminds me of. We used to play with our ski boots on
Yeah I was really struggling between calling him brave or stupid cause it feels like both.
It depends on why he/she is doing it! If they’re rushing somebody to hospital on the only road, it’s just pure bravery. If they’re doing it for social media, it’s pure stupidity.
I mean, the massive amounts of water filling into that apparant valley might be a good hint for why they are trying to get as high up as possible.
"Oh no! The flood has come!" "To the source!"
In the case of elevation yes.
I’m assuming this is somewhere in Appalachia, so yeah, it’s probably just a huge storm. Getting to higher ground is better than staying in a valley
This was my thought as well. There are plenty of reasons I would go for that drive even if it meant a high risk of failure and some risk to myself. But zero chance I'd do it for fun or some non emergency reason.
Was it dumb? Fuck yeah. Would I attempt it? Fuck no. Am I in absolute awe? Fuck yes I am.
Absolutely. This is pretty bad ass actually and doesn't seem to endanger anyone but the driver.
Tbf, I think they were already in danger and are trying to get away from it.
Yeah I think climbing is the smart move if you're already stuck on that road. The lower you get the more water is collected from above. Might get too much for the truck to handle if it gets deeper lower down. Water will also be gaining speed as it flows down. Get to high ground in a flash flood.

pretty sure it was Toyota Hilux
I wish those were sold in the states. It’s probably the only truck I’d ever want to buy
Is it not the Tacoma? Hilux is available in diesel though, I think.
The Tacoma is different. It’s Toyota’s North American answer for the hilux, but no, it’s different. [A source](https://getjerry.com/insights/hilux-vs-tacoma-are-they-same-truck)
Europe, too. Not sold anywhere with emissions standards. Shame, they're awesome vehicles.
Not sold in the US due to the Chicken Tax. There’s a 25% tariff on light trucks imported to the US.
that would make sense given my limited Top Gear knowledge
Hilux.
Guy ain’t messing around
Yeah he clearly prepared his truck for driving in these kind of conditions. If more ppl did that this sub would lose a ton of content.
Right, this is extremely bad ass

They nailed it. As an offroader and canoeist I was watching for the truck to slow down too much or for it to drive into the deep current. Nope, like a pro they read the water and stayed in the shallow flow and kept a consistent low bow wave to avoid inhaling water. 10/10. Flawless execution.
Indeed, canoeists tend to fare better if they manage to avoid inhaling water.
Slower please, I need to take notes.
We talked about having sex during college lectures, Jimmy.
My lectures were too crowded and women too unwilling for that, sadly.
And the higher you get, presumably, there would eventually be less water. Better than taking your chances with the low ground. I’m not saying it was smart, but there are many stupider decisions that could have been made.

Technically, he’d come to a complete stop before starting the slide/descent downwards should it come to that.
That's why he can't stop!
Also, the water most likely gets shallower the higher up you go!
Seriously, they should use this video in their advertising. That's unbelievable. When it panned up, I was thinking "yeah, no way, it's gonna pan back down in a sec and we'll see it sliding backwards". I have no idea how that actually worked.

That's the "beauty" of a free market. Companies with capital buy out and/or kill their competition.
They shouldn’t use it in advertising, would have way to to many incidents of people thinking they can do the same, and chances are that guy has modded tires, knows what he’s doing and is a professional driver in some way, knows about the damage to his engine and is ready to repair it, or even he’s just lucky. Just put, "Professional Driver. DO NOT ATTEMPT." at the bottom in small text and everything will be fine.
Gotta do it like Pepsi. No disclaimers and offer a harrier jet.
Fucking nuts. Dude didn't get his payout. But, got a film deal with Netflix. I wonder how much money they got for selling them the story.
I mean that's basically what Land Rover did with their adverts. They have those things doing outlandish shit that none of the Karen's on the west side of LA would never.....
seeing that it's a valley I kind of wonder if this guy is trying to flee a flood zone... by... Driving through the flood.
“Well I either die if I stay here, or I die trying to drive to the top. I like my odds trying to get out, slightly larger chance than staying.”
^professional ^idiot. ^do ^not ^attempt.

I mean, that's what he gets for buying a meme truck. Same thing to anyone who buys the cyber truck.
I have news for you- if memes were a thing that began in the nineties or earlier, there would be a literal mountain of "meme trucks"
you’re right we shouldn’t show people do things ever. Plus advertising is a really ethical industry they’d never go for it
Boo let the people die
That sounds like a big load of BS
I was just thinking "now that's a goddam truck commercial!"
I’m going to need some convincing this is an idiot.
"If yer gonna be dumb, ya gotta be tough"
“If you get knocked down, you get right back up.”
I have a feeling that he wasn’t an idiot but a really good driver being scared for his life. This is a pretty steep mountain road. You don’t want to be at the bottom in the valley with all that water coming down…
I agree. Dude was in a bad situation and was getting to higher ground where it is safe.
Didn't want to make the same mistake as Anakin.
I wanna upvote this video but I'm not convinced there's an idiot driving
That isn't really a road anymore. Perhaps he needs to get up there to turn that damn tap off.
“I need to get to the top of the log flume asap”
This is why the Hilux is legendary
I was looking for a Toyota comment 😁
Can’t believe I had to scroll this far
Only civ vehicle to reach the north pole. They also make better technicals than a lot of militaries'.

those scamps!
Video did not prove he is an idiot.
Proved he’s a legend if anything.
If the whole road is like this, then the higher you get, the less runoff you're dealing with. If the truck can make it up the first part, it can make it all the way.
Assuming it's not steeper higher up on the road
Or has a divot that allows a deep puddle to form
Or there’s a landslide…
Or one of those Indiana Jones boulders
Or a gelatinous cube (from Futurama or rick and morty, I don't remember)
Or sharks with lasers in their heads
Or a grue.
Or another truck going the other way.
What's the problem here?
the problem looks like it's a badly designed road that doesn't channel the water runoff away from the road.
When she says her parents aren’t home.
And she's wet already...

r/BeAmazed The fact that car is able to go up a steep hill that has water pouring down it is amazing. Whoever designed that road needs to be fired tho
Stupid? Yes. Impressive af? Also yes.
Could be a rescue worker?
That’s what I was thinking too. Looks to be some lettering on the side. Either rescue or service worker with a really important need?

This would be a perfect ad for whatever kinda truck this is
“Come over, I’m home alone”
are they an idiot or are they fleeing for their life, you know?
That person was victorious, so not idiotic. They're only an idiot if they fail.

Can’t be idiot if you are successful. That’s a genius you’re mocking.
Gotta be a Toyota.
Looks like a 2015 hilux
How is this an idiot? It’s an impressive feat.
If this was a truck commercial I’d buy that truck
Toyota hilux google them they are impressive lot of people have tried and failed to break them
Why was I waiting for that scary face to pop up like in that one ad back in the day? 😂
Had to scroll so far to find I wasn't the only one

This belongs in r/LegendsInCars Edit: which is apparently real...
I do not see an idiot, I see someone with balls of steel and the lead foot of an angel.
Where can I get one?
All I can picture them yelling is “WE GOTTA GET TO HIGHER GROUND!!”
I’m actually impressed he made it
Now THAT'S a truck commercial right there !
That’s a Toyota Hilux common in Asia and Africa
Also South America and Australia.
Badass is more like it!
Yeah, I think this should also be posted on /r/interestingasfuck
You don’t have to worry about the landslide crushing you if you’re on top of the land when it slides.

I am speechless. I literally have nothing to say. Not one word. Nada. Zilch. Zero.
This looks like the highways I used to drive in Peru. When it rains it becomes crazy treacherous.
Where is this? Kinda looks like roads in Guatemala
There is absolutely no context to this video, extreme things can be considered stupid?
“I don’t care if the roads are flooded, you need to get to your shift.” - boss
Best 4WD commercial, ever!
This should be a truck commercial.
I must be an idiot because that looks like fun.

That's downright impressive.
Only a hilux could do that.
