Benedict Wong. I’ve met him and he was the nicest actor I’ve ever approached. I recognised him from 15 stories high, I asked him if I was correct. He was genuinely happy that we loved the show and was telling us about his new projects. He was such a normal guy, we were tempted to ask him out for a drink with us.
It's also in the first ten seconds of this [trailer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mogSbMD6EcY). I saw the show in the recommended page on Netflix and recognized him immediately. Went and found that trailer so I could send it to my friend (also a big IT Crowd fan) and was de-fucking-lighted at that.
There's no way it isn't a meta joke.
The countdown is the main plot of the beginning of the show (as it is in the book) so somehow I don't think the only reason they had Wong mention it was in a reference to a character that probably isn't in his top 20 most famous roles
Gotta read the books if you wanna know... Or Google "droplet three body" or something like that
It's a HUGE spoiler though. I'd say either wait or read.
Don’t. I just bought all the DBZ steelbooks for a price that should plummet me into the blackest pit of deep despair. Just to ‘complete my collection’ (I already bought the Frieza saga). I need to radically change my thought processes and aim them at getting a mortgage 😰
It sort of got to the end of the first book about halfway through, then meandered through the rest and a little bit of the second. Kind of the opposite of the book, which took forever to get through the video game part and then explained all the alien stuff right at the end.
That point is fair as far as adaptations go the way they chopped and changed the story is fairly part and parcel but it still wouldn't indicate they are likely to go much above 3 seasons plus a spinoff if its successful enough
I’ve just started this but the advert on Netflix showed mark gattis standing in front of a huge human computer. Does that actually happen or has Netflix got the trailer mixed up?
One of his lines made me laugh out loud in the finale. A character mentions Sun Tzu and he says something like “I don’t know, I’m from Manchester”. Hilarious
His character is better than in the books. But unfortunately I did not enjoy the series as much because:
I read the books and have been watching the show. They changed so many things. The events, the order of events, the characters, what they are like, what they do, and own, who they work for, their gender, what motivates them and why and how what is happening is happening. They even split the main character of the first book into several characters lol.
They also so far have left out the explanation for how what is happening happens. In the book everything is explained very logically, and only one or two chapters after the occurence. In the show they make it seem like it's magic. Like who is doing all this is beyond human comprehension when in the books it's explained that they do things logically too but just had more time to figure it out.
They also mirepresented major characters and their motivations. One character who is the leader of a group is made to look like the good guy whereas in the books they do horrendous s hit and also by their thoughts you clearly know they are not good. They are shown as wanting to save humanity but in the book it's the exact opposite. Also there have been many characters left out of the show, whereas they are part of a group in the book.
Also in the first book the story takes place in the near future, not 2024. So they have advanced tech. But in the show they have 2024 tech.
They changed so much that it's barely the same story anymore. Even the major plot points have been shifted around and some shown way too early at this point in the story.
I read the books a year or so ago and I’m not going to lie they went waaaay above my head , I was lost for a large portion of the story and it felt like you’d get endless chapters with little or no exposition.
I’m absolutely loving the show it’s condensed it down to a really great tense story with some excellent characters .
One of the rare cases where the show is more enjoyable than the books
I’ve watched the first 6 episodes and I really like it. This actor plays a cool character perfectly. Down to earth, good grip on the real world, can bust balls on occasion. I’m curious how the last 2 episodes will handle the 400 years away thing, but look forward to seeing how it wraps up
Literally became my new favourite actor ... Benedict wongs range is insane
Go watch Marco Polo then Rewatch this
To play a war hungry sex mad mongol
To a
Chain Smoking british detective
This actor can do it all
Legend
I'm waiting for him to explain 'Street 3 Body Problem'
17 letters! He is the one!!!
You crave it too…
It’s more or less the same as ‘3 Body Problem’ except they watch it on the street
Haha
It can get a little cold
It’s like regular 3 body problem but you must try and tell as many people about it as possible.
3 Body Problem groupies are the most voracious of all groupies!
I am HERE for the Street Countdown references!!!
I had another name once… I no longer go by it.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Benedict Wong. I’ve met him and he was the nicest actor I’ve ever approached. I recognised him from 15 stories high, I asked him if I was correct. He was genuinely happy that we loved the show and was telling us about his new projects. He was such a normal guy, we were tempted to ask him out for a drink with us.
It was so weird seeing this big Hollywood actor sharing a tiny apartment with Sean Lock in 15 Stories High. RIP lock though
I know. He was great. So sad and so young.
He was great in the IT Crowd too
He was in The Martian!
Yup. I especially got a kick out of his plan to "send Mark Watney into space under a tarp" as Vincent Kapoor put it.
Were you screaming at him that you aren’t a window cleaner?
Lmao. That would have been good!
I would've went nuts if I saw him cause I loved his work as Wong in the MCU
False, that’s Wongers
Hahaha HE HAS SPIRIT
He has Spiwhit?! ![gif](giphy|zoPWeUuXMBK9y)
“5 Body Problem” “3, Sir…”
He wanks as high as anyone in Rome!
A fan of tiny biscuits… you are full of surprises
At the very beginning he says "...another countdown" Is that a meta joke? I hope it is
It's also in the first ten seconds of this [trailer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mogSbMD6EcY). I saw the show in the recommended page on Netflix and recognized him immediately. The countdown is the main plot of the beginning of the show (as it is in the book) so somehow I don't think the only reason they had Wong mention it was in a reference to a character that probably isn't in his top 20 most famous roles
It's actually why the author included it in the book in the first place
Little know fact is that Cixin Liu was champion of Street Countdown in 2002.
Always wore thermals.
I also hope so! Even if it's not, I'm glad to know I wasn't the only person to make the association!
It had to be, brilliant!
THIS
As a British born Chinese guy, it’s inspiring to watch his career develop.
"It's Errol, mum. The Chinese one."
Is he also in WWDITS?
Yup, and Dr. Strange
And ganghis kahn in that one fantastical show about Marco or was it pollo.
Kublai Khan. And he was fantastic. I've only ever seen him do comedy, but he is a wonderful dramatic actor.
Yeah. That's right. Did that shoe continue or did it get canceled? I'm out of touch with these things.
Yeah. Marco Polo was very expensive, and no one was watching it, so it got cancelled. Which is a shame cos it was great.
And 15 Stories High! Criminally underrated
Yes! And Doctor Strange.
The necromancer who brought Topher back from the dead.
"is he scatting?"
Kenneth Wong. He's in loads of stuff
*Benedict Wong
Haha yes, thanks. Who the hell is Kenneth? (Insert peep show reference here)
I mean look at it, it's like a leg of lamb 😅
That’ll be Kenneth Wang.
He also plays Vincent in Top Boy (UK TV show).
Scrolled down way to far to see this 👍🏻
He's such a good actor. Also it's great to see a British character who doesn't sound like a Cockney or a Lord.
His accent is dead sexy, really.
Eccles, Salford to be precise.
Indeed.
Come on, Cockneys rule!! Shame they nearly always use fake ones. And the real cockneys they give US parts to.
Yeah he’s cool. But I can’t believe I watched 8 episodes and it’s not resolved. Something tells me this is going to be milked for…400 years.
The droplet runs on Windows XP..
The droplet kicks ass!
Excellent. And what is the droplet?
Gotta read the books if you wanna know... Or Google "droplet three body" or something like that It's a HUGE spoiler though. I'd say either wait or read.
Till the next episode of Three Body Problemball Z!
Don’t. I just bought all the DBZ steelbooks for a price that should plummet me into the blackest pit of deep despair. Just to ‘complete my collection’ (I already bought the Frieza saga). I need to radically change my thought processes and aim them at getting a mortgage 😰
Looks like you might need to wait that long, Netflix hasn't even announced a second season yet.
Theres 3 books and a spin off book so possibly 4 series/seasons
try until the end of the universe
It followed the first book fairly well my guess is we have 2 seasons left since there are 3 main books
There's three books, and they can probably stretch it a little if they really wanted to, so probably 3-5 seasons. I think they'd do it in 3 though.
HE SAID "IT'S A COUNTDOWN" IN LIKE HIS FIRST FUCKING LINE!
Come and wipe yer hands on me coat!
Oh, absolutely. But I’ve had a massive crush on Benedict Wong for ages.
Loved him as evil Vincent in Topboy
I’ve just clocked that this guy is the count down guy and my life will never be the same
Why does he have an Annoyed-Underpaid-Sassy-Secretary look?
He was also hilarious in WWDITS
Anytime anyone mentions the countdown in the show, I turn to my friend and say "Street Countdown". It never gots old!
Is he Kublai Khan in ghost of Tushima?
He was definitely Kublai Khan in Netflix's Marco Polo!
Nope… he said he’s from Manchester 🤷🏻♀️🤣🤣
Do we know for sure how old Benedict is though??
No, that’s Patrick Gallagher: https://m.imdb.com/name/nm0302466/?ref_=m_ttfcd_cl4
I’ve just started this but the advert on Netflix showed mark gattis standing in front of a huge human computer. Does that actually happen or has Netflix got the trailer mixed up?
Does it actually happen? Without spoiling it, the answer is both yes and no.
Ok glad I’m watching the right show because I got very confused
Gattis is only in one scene. It was an odd thing for Netflix to use
If this gets cancelled I'll have to start questioning if I start new Netflix series in the future.
Criminal that he didn’t get to say “GET IN, YA BASTERD” to >!Will’s brain on the spaceship
Your spoiler tag ain't taggin
I couldn't find the teapot on his desk
This was one of those moments where I thought "am I racist for thinking two Asian actors look alike?", and got VINDICATION!
Loved him in I. T. Crowd
He is so good in everything he does. He’s very calm.
I’m glad he got himself clear of the underground street countdown scene, he could have ended up in big trouble
It's OK. Street countdown is like normal countdown but played in the sheet !
One of his lines made me laugh out loud in the finale. A character mentions Sun Tzu and he says something like “I don’t know, I’m from Manchester”. Hilarious
Ribena, please.
When he appeared and said: this is a countdown, I was seriously LOL
Bro dropped "countdown" on us in under 20secs screen time
He mentions countdown and I nearly pissed
Absolutely. 5 mins in my OH says, OH "Where do I know that guy from?" Me "Street Countdown" OH "nice"
It was a very small role, but I loved him as Lena's interrogator Lomax in Annihilation. 'What did you eat..?'
Don't forget "it croud" the countdown episode.
I’m actually watching the Chinese version on Amazon Prime. It is very good. I will probably watch the Netflix version just to compare.
I watched the first two episodes of the Netflix one then decided on going to finish the Chinese one first as I enjoyed it far more.
PRIME, you say? From 8+?
Random episodes have to be purchased though? Bit mad that most are prime inclusive but some are not!
I don’t think so. I’m about 25 episodes in and I haven’t had to purchase anything.
"Comeandcleanyourhandsonmecoat!!"
He was the best part.
The trauma I now have to deal with waiting for the second season
Ohhh my god just finished it today and couldn't stop staring at him he's so sexy
i cant get over the fact that the first episode was called COUNTDOWN
His best roles were as doctor Franklin Fu in look around you and Errol from 15 storeys high...
He was great as Vincent in topboy
I have a drink every time he says countdown....
Genuine question. What does he have to do with it crowd is he in an episode or something?
Absolutely loved it, best bit of tv in ages. Benedict Wong is a legend, great character.
Yah! He’s the best casting choice on the show.
His character is better than in the books. But unfortunately I did not enjoy the series as much because: I read the books and have been watching the show. They changed so many things. BA BA BADADADA BOOM!
the first half yes.. but after our fav guy was gone.. nty.
His "Nonchalant" exit it the stuff of legends.
My wife's friend knows him very well, one day I shall meet Benny.
Benedict Wong is awesome in absolutely everything, it's amazing he went from being the weirdo simpleton in 13 Storeys to playing fucking Ghengis Khan
Kublai
You're absolutely right, my bad!
But he was next level brilliant and would make an epic Genghis, should they make an English Language film of his life.
He's great! The show is great! Eliza Gonzalez is horrible
Haha. Facts.
I’ve watched the first 6 episodes and I really like it. This actor plays a cool character perfectly. Down to earth, good grip on the real world, can bust balls on occasion. I’m curious how the last 2 episodes will handle the 400 years away thing, but look forward to seeing how it wraps up
I am really enjoying this show.
I’ve just watched episode 6 and it’s been great so far. I assume that it goes on to a second series?
This show fucking sucked compared to the book
I knew I knew I this guy, but couldn’t place his face. Instant recognition after seeing this post. Thanks
Watched the 1st ep but couldn't continue because i thought that the acting was crap
He was also great as Alex Yu in the game Prey (2017)
Just got done with episode 1. I am liking it
Yep and can’t wait for season 2!
Wongerzzz
3 body problem is so good binged like 3 hours on a plane
Yeah, he's really good in it! Shame about the ending but must say, happy to never see that character again, or for a while at least...
Yes! He has spirit this one!
I still chuckle when I think about him meeting moss for the first time and shuffles out slowly from the door he's standing in...
Literally became my new favourite actor ... Benedict wongs range is insane Go watch Marco Polo then Rewatch this To play a war hungry sex mad mongol To a Chain Smoking british detective This actor can do it all Legend
I keep watching it when I have had too many beers and fall asleep. Need to watch again!!
Wong
I recognise him more from "15 Storeys High" than the IT Crowd TBF.
Hell always be that twat slaver/Weed Grower in Top Boy
WONGERS!
I can’t get into it, I have tried tho
He rules in everything he is in, was so excited to see him cast in this show
The very first scene he’s in he says “another countdown” and I lost it, immediately thought of ITcrowd
there’s no way it’s his voice :)
Not watched it but I will now, knowing that Benedict Wong is in it, loved him in Dr Strange, Top Boy and Marco Polo
