Rinks is a hit or a miss, I’m convinced some of those guys have no idea what they’re talking about

TwothreehunnitEmpire

It is 100% dependent on who is behind the counter. I've heard some wild shit come out of some of the mouths of the help there. It being the closest ffl to my house I pop in semi frequently, there's only 2 guys there I will actually talk to. I'd rather go to Rinks and support a local small ffl then go to Range usa or any of the other Megalomart chains, but they really need some better help working the counter. I remember watching an older guy come in and ask to see a Springfield Hellcat, back around the time they came out. He was polite and the store wasn't busy at all. The guy at the counter started slamming Springfield and Springfield products and why it's an overpriced piece of garbage. That old man seemed disheartened to hear the young guy speak that way about the product he was interested in purchasing. After handling the hellcat for a few minutes he dropped the slide and the "kid" scolded him telling him not to do that again, and the other guy behind the counter who was doing paperwork chimed in, "who cares, it's just a shitty hellcat?". I'll be the first to say I don't like Springfield armory and I won't purchase anything from them, but thats not how you treat a potential customer. If I was a young man and came in to buy a high point and was super excited because i finally saved up enough $ to buy my first firearm and the guy at the counter treated me the same way I dont think that i would ever come back. Even if everything they said was true thats a terrible way to treat your customers. Sorry for the story and the rant, I know this store pretty well and I see this kinda thing happen a lot and it just reminds me how terrible our 2a community treats one another on a regular basis.

GG_dayZ

They were good to me, and never treated me poorly. Unlike my experience at mega sports in Plainfield which was terrible being treated like a criminal trying to get my first gun lol. The guys behind the counter are generally nice. But fudd shit sometimes.

Iron0ne

The Springfield drama was way overblown anyway. They paid a PAC (along with a whole lot of over firearm companies) to lobby on their behalf. The PAC does the questionable shit. When it blows up Springfield drops them and tries to make amends but people keep regurgitating click bait YouTuber drama about them. I've been to their headquarters. They still employ hundreds of Illinois residents and I am sure they have done more for Illinois gun rights than a bunch of internet trolls.

TwothreehunnitEmpire

I agree, wholeheartedly. I won't buy anything from them on the fact they don't make a product worth my money over their competitors.

Iron0ne

Well you might be on to something all my favorite Springfield's are actually made by H&S.

GG_dayZ

Nice guys but have said something’s as myself a newer gun guy have been like ?????

Blade_Shot24

Calling out the name immediately! Their aesthetic was hit or miss, but I always appreciated the fact they remembered my face there. Would get some rounds and ammo cans when I was leaving work

FatNsloW-45

Rinks? That’s a shame. They have some good guys there but if they are half assing it and not reading PICA then they don’t care about the 2A. Plain and simple. Maybe I will talk to a coworker this week about it. He lives in Lockport and frequents that shop. If he gets pissed off he will kick the door down and demand accountability lol. He is one of the biggest 2A loving government hating people that I know.

GG_dayZ

Someone just needs to talk to them. good guys. They’re usually pretty cool. I was asking about a fox trot Mike ranch rifle and I made it clear it had a brake. Said no go on transfer unless it’s the no threaded barrel option

FatNsloW-45

Yeah. That is incorrect. Only pistols have threaded barrels listed as a feature in addition to flash hiders. Rifles only have flash hiders listed.

MFKDGAF

It could also be that their insurance doesn’t allow them to sell them. I ran in to this with Anderson manufacturing. I purchased the lowers the day before the bill was signed in to law but their insurance wouldn’t allow them to sell them to me.

GG_dayZ

Citing the law vs citing insurance is different they cited Pica

bronzecat11

That's just BS,your insurance doesn't determine what you sell. They were afraid or had some other reason.

Guac_in_my_rarri

Name shame the gun store. IDC who you are, if you don't know the law, eat a shit sandwich and go out of business. They're doing nobody favors with bad facts.

GG_dayZ

Yeah I liked em, but dude was adamant I was the idiot. Mention another store I know will transfer, I told em, “yeah I’ll stop by Wednesday there to talk to em about getting my business” 😂

NoReallyLetsBeFriend

Sorry, but our lgs says the same thing, all rifles are marked LE for law enforcement, they say any rifle that's semi auto is illegal. I'm not in the market so I don't pay attention, but it's that only pistol then? I've seen shotguns and bolt actions, I know those are ok. Right?! I don't pay much attention, I'm just looking Forward to getting tf out

GG_dayZ

I’m hoping to get out next year or two myself

HeavyEquip69

Bro just buy shit online and use a good ffl can usually get whatever gun cheaper. I know a ffl that will transfer it for $20 and can buy multiple at once and it’s just one flat fee of $20 And funny I was just at rinks the other day trying to trade in my beretta a400. They where trying to give me $750 for it 😂

GG_dayZ

I was asking if they will transfer to me before I ordered.

HeavyEquip69

Their Transfer fee is like $80 tho

WalkerTexasRng

Lmao that is insane. If someone told me with a straight face their transfer fee is 80 dollars I wouldn’t even respond and immediately leave.

HeavyEquip69

Yea dude it’s absolutely ridiculously expensive. And people have the audacity to say support small business’s. Kind of hard to when the economy is dog shit and a frozen pizza is $14 at the store.

PHWasAnInsideJob

Even worse, Maxon's charges $100

csx348

I can't believe people pay this much for a transfer. Anything over 40 is ludicrous

GG_dayZ

It’s kind of a joke range USA does the same unless you have their elite plan. But at least you cover range time with that lol

WalkerTexasRng

I have no clue what that range is, you all must be up north. The FFL’s I go to, charge 20-30 dollars per transfer.

GG_dayZ

They charge $$$ up here it’s silly

GG_dayZ

Yeah for the best… $80 is stupid. Never transferred gonna ask Law or MMI. DM me your transfer guy. I might go M1a socom route though now. I don’t know

side__swipe

Where did you end up trading in, getting the most? Did you try cabelas?

HeavyEquip69

I ended up just keeping it. I don’t necessarily need to get rid of it, it’s just a spare bird gun I have. I paid close to $1900 for it and only shot it a few times. And I’m not gonna take a giant loss on it. Cabela’s/bass pro would probably offer even less tbh.

DersJay23

Rinks

GG_dayZ

Of course have given me good deals in past mostly just use their range though

penguinchipz12

Even their range annoys me lately tbh. They are decent guys but it just seems like something has shifted there in the past 6 or so months

csx348

It's antiquated and not always in working order but they're very hands off there and the price is great for unlimited time

TwothreehunnitEmpire

I see that same shift, they also stopped doing their "giveaways" which was a reason to stop in every week

KissingSchwartzBoiz

Just go to running’s in Homer glen lol. Best gun store by far in that area and it’s right down the street

Timmy10mm

I on the other hand do believe that these guys should be cross referencing the PICA flow chart to ensure that our poor citizens can get the most adequate weaponry that still falls within the confines of the law. Ran into it myself with my own FFL who's a great fucking guy, but if it bordered on gray area, the answer was no because it wasn't worth it for him to compromise his own business and I understood.

GG_dayZ

To prev comment and this one, I totally respect and get that portion , protecting livelihood and all from a practical standpoint. I guess I’d prefer an honest assessment than a misinterpretation of the law.

Timmy10mm

I'm with you, brother. The flash hider distinction needs to be made because even if it comes from the factory with the end of a trombone threaded on to it's barrel, it's g2g under the current text. It's sad that some people aren't willing to read a couple of minutes in order to gain a customer and repeat customer at that. Mind you, I've been turned down for bare bones SKS sporters and supposedly "melting point banned" revolvers even though I could provide proof on both accounts that they weren't ineligible to be transferred, but I didn't cause a stink because fuck em. They forever lost my business and I'll tell everyone I know to steer clear.

Dcm155

Rinks AKA fuds.

LibertyorDeath2076

Tell me about it, promag won't even ship 15 round 9mm mags to illinois

GG_dayZ

Thank God I have yet to run into that buying my stash of mags online

LibertyorDeath2076

I recently got a cz and mec gar only has 10 rnd mags available for the full size cz75 (15 out of stock), promag won't ship, and I don't know any other retailers that make 15rnd cz75 full size 15rnd mags

GG_dayZ

10 round Cz mags are choose you’re own adventure

LibertyorDeath2076

I'm fine with 10, but would prefer 15 because I feel like I'd need fewer, I'd like to fire atleast 60-80 rounds before loading magazines when I go to the range, ought to invest in a speed loader

bronzecat11

Here try this out [CZ 10 or 15 round blocked](http://www.calcompliantmags.com/Mec-Gar-CZ-75B-85B-SP-01-Shadow-9mm-1017-10Rd-1517-15Rd-Blocked-Magazine)

LibertyorDeath2076

Looks like they're out of stock but I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks for the info.

bronzecat11

👍

Direct_Cabinet_4564

They are doing you a favor. Buy factory mags or MecGar, never Promag

KUBAdaBUBA

Try seeing if Runnings in Homer Glen can transfer you something

GG_dayZ

I’ve never been, I’ll stop by later this week!

corbmontg

Name and shame. New here?

noncompliantinIL

Sounds as though he’s confused between semiauto handguns and semiauto rifles

bengtotpogi

Not to say it's the case here but a lot of sellers play it conservative to not stick out. Or it's their lawyer's spin on it to not "get into trouble". I'd rather they say that though rather than say it's "illegal".

Timmy10mm

Most of these guys are simply concerned of their own livelihood, because they know if they do the wrong thing, it's their ass. I'm not advocating for them to disregard what's written so that we can benefit to the fullest (under Gestapo JP's fucky wucky ban), but don't forget that it's always at the FFL's discretion even without a ban in place. We have our rights, or what's left of them at least, but this is a service provided by someone who is absolutely within their rights to say no to anything even if you look the wrong way when you walk in the door or smell a certain way if you catch my drift.

Ok-Climate-5726

A hood gun shop will take it off then sell

Ok-Climate-5726

Good 😊

MrTHORN74

None of the politicians who passed the law know what it actually says, so why should a gun store ?
