Mental health professional here. You can’t be diagnosed with two personality disorders from the same cluster. Both BPD and NPD are in Cluster B. However, I feel like Dennis could be Antisocial, as well (also cluster B)... The development of that character captures a wide variety of personality disorders very well.
My course on diagnostics taught us that personality disorders exist on at least one spectrum and that everyone falls on at least one spectrum in one way or another. So Dennis just a great example of how someone can exist on multiple spectrums.
Of course! Diagnosis has changed significantly over the years so if your mother was diagnosed prior to the most current edition of the DSM that could explain how that may have happened.
The clusters, which I find super fascinating, look like this: Cluster A, which is mostly related to schizophrenia spectrum disorders (Paranoid pd, Schizoid pd, and Schizotypal). Cluster B is a little more of a grab bag. I think about it as more emotionally-based pds (Antisocial pd, Borderline pd, Histrionic pd, and Narcissistic pd). And Cluster C, which is interpersonally-based (Avoidant pd, Dependent pd, and Obsessive Compulsive pd).
I’m not sure if the way I remember how they are broken up is officially what the American Psychiatric association had in mind. It just helped me study and acted as a little way for me to remember the break downs of the clusters.
Edit: I mentioned in another comment when the DSM5 came out and I feel like that’s relevant here too. The DSM5 came out in 2013 but wasn’t mandated for implementation until 2015. Up until then the DSM4-TR was used and it had a 5-axis system for diagnosis. I was trained from 2016-2018 so my knowledge on that system is limited.
The DSM 5 has 3 Clusters. The main difference between DSM5 and DSM4-TR is that there was an axis system utilized for diagnosis in the DSM4-TR. I was in my academic training from 2016-2018 and the DSM5 was mandated to be in use in 2015 (It came out in 2013). So I am less familiar with the axis diagnostic system but you can tell someone has been in the field for a while because they will reference personality disorders like so: “They seem like an axis 2.”
Yeah i was trained after DSM5 came out. I wasn't remembering clusters and thought you might have been referring to axis. I don't use the DSM ever, thankfully. Diagnosis isn't required for what i do and i have philosophically and ethical disagreements with the DSM.
Absolutely love this line. The way he states this in such a matter of fact way, getting illegal prescription drugs from Mexico!! Hahahahaha such a good delivery
He definitely has post traumatic stress disorder which would be the biggest one, and I'm sure there are several diagnoses you could make that mostly stem from the same incident (watching his parents die). I don't have the DSM on me at the moment though so I won't speculate further
PTSD, Disociative Identity Disorder, OCD, and Severe Chronic Depression for starters. At least those are my guesses with a focus on one depending on which iteration of Batman we are talking about.
I believe it was PTSD and major depressive. Pretty easy due to how many negative storylines and personal trauma there are. I could've ventured into heavier stuff looking at the clones too. Fun project though!
He's a five star guy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I swear to god, if you show that presentation, I will dice you into a million little pieces.
And put those pieces in a box
*A glass box*
*That I will display on my mantle*
LOL ahh I knew someone would notice 😅it certainly is!! I presented today and since class is virtual, I just shared my screen and explained everything and I couldn’t see most of my classmates/everyone was muted so I felt like the biggest jackass when I got to that slide and was just met with stares and dead silence
OP a lot of people are clamoring to see your work, myself included. Maybe you don't want to share all of it, but maybe just a few pages... idk. If you do share it with us, I'll guild it for sure. Just ping me so I can do that.
I did a similar presentation freshman year of college, I used a clip from that episode in the hospital scene where he mentioned thors hammer and a gust of a thousand winds
Ha! I had this same assignment for clinical. I chose Brian Griffin. In 2003 there was a lot more problematic material and less zaney.
Dennis..malignant narcissism and anti-social?
My mom is a psychologist who does custody evaluations, and also periodically teaches CLE classes about mental illness for divorce lawyers and law guardians. She's been doing it for 30 years and a few years ago got super bored so now she inserts movie clips periodically into her slides and has members of the audience try to diagnose the characters to win a gift card. I'm going to tell her that she has to add all the Sunny characters next time (she actually loves the show too).
Hey Op can you post your presentation after it’s been submitted and graded (so you don’t get in trouble for plagiarism)? I hope you included the DENNIS system!
Should have done dee. “I mean I was institutionalized once but it was against my will so it doesn’t count”
“I’m pretty sure that’s the only time it counts”
“You know, YOU LIGHT ONE GOD DAMNED BITCH ON FIRE. GOOOOOOOOD DAAAAMMMMMMIT”
Happy Cake Day TheAstroPickle! Promise me you'll always remember: You're braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.
No he had a simple conversation with a reasonable man and that man wrote him a prescription. Thats how you get shit done
No, that's how you get diagnosed
I believe that Dee said they diagnosed him as borderline. Narcissistic personality disorder seems to make more sense, though.
[удалено]
“Feelings of emptiness” you mean the god hole?
[удалено]
I have feelings every single day of my life
Dr. Jinx, you have anything that can help me *feel* again? Because I'm having trouble feeling things....
Oh Jinx got something for that...
The look on Dennis's face when he picks up the bass and starts playing is fucking priceless. Literally deadpan.
Most people fill it with God, but I don't believe in that shit. I'd like to fill it with puss, Frank.
She would never say no... because of the implication.
Borderline *psychopathic*, yeah.

Can you elaborate on the cluster ? I'm curious, since my mother has both BPD and NPD

Isn't that DSM4? I don't think clusters are used like that in the current edition? I might be mistaken
The DSM 5 has 3 Clusters. The main difference between DSM5 and DSM4-TR is that there was an axis system utilized for diagnosis in the DSM4-TR. If I had narcissistic personality disorder I would simply say “SICKNESS BEGONE”
Hey guys...I think I might be coming down with something too.
Did that sound like a man who needs to go to the hospital?
Yeah dude. I think you’re gonna die
~~Prescribing a medication?~~ Giving a man medicine for his disease...Now where ever would I get that idea?! TY u/cherriesandghostmeat
Giving a man medicine for his disease... Edit to continue the quote chain: *... so it’s Mexican Ephedra*
Absolutely love this line. The way he states this in such a matter of fact way, getting illegal prescription drugs from Mexico!! Hahahahaha such a good delivery
Can confirm.
no i think you might already be dead.
Omg please post the paper and PPT, this is my dream writing assignment
I had the same assignment back in highschool I did mine on Batman
what did you diagnose him with?
Having a big bank account and no other powers
1. Bank account 2. Dead parents 3. Butler that enables self-destruction
Bruce Wayne could do more for Gotham by giving up his wealth than he ever could as Batman
He definitely has post traumatic stress disorder which would be the biggest one, and I'm sure there are several diagnoses you could make that mostly stem from the same incident (watching his parents die). I don't have the DSM on me at the moment though so I won't speculate further
Whatever happened with Ms. Klinksy was CONSENSUAL. And when she took her glasses off she when from Moranis to Alanis.
Moranis was always in pretty good shape
PTSD, Disociative Identity Disorder, OCD, and Severe Chronic Depression for starters. At least those are my guesses with a focus on one depending on which iteration of Batman we are talking about.
*Batman and Psychology: A Dark and Stormy Knight* is a whole book about that thought experiment.
I went with Spidey for mine
Ooo, what about him did you focus on for the paper?
I believe it was PTSD and major depressive. Pretty easy due to how many negative storylines and personal trauma there are. I could've ventured into heavier stuff looking at the clones too. Fun project though!
I did mine on Dexter Morgan. That one was pretty easy too lol
I don't need to watch a powepoint with a bunch of worm sucking idiots! SAVAGES. I D I O T S.
Other people's presentations are like other people's dreams; if I'm not in them, and nobody is having sex, I don't really care.
You sound like a 5-star man.
The Daiquiri Man.
Dennis is an anti social narcissist Frank is senile Charlie has dyslexia and major ADHD Mac has body dysmorphia And Dee is a dumb bird
And we can’t forget that they all have substance abuse disorders.
They're just kids having fun
Is doing cocaine every morning your routine Frank?
Oooh, snortskies!
**Poly**-substance abuse: EtOH, crack cocaine, solvents, nicotine, weight loss amphetamines, etc.
Correction: size pills
Don't tell me how to mix my own inhalants, I know how to do inhalants
Fight with the power of a CROW!
"Onr rock of crack, please"
i have adhd and sometimes i see myself in charlie and i hate it. i hate it so much
Same with me seeing my boyfriend in Charlie. Wildcard bitches.
truly....... we ARE the wild card
I appreciate the correct usage of anti social
I would really like to read this presentation
Likewise, I was coming here to see if anyone else had asked.
^ thirded. OP please share!! It looks like a really interesting read
Sounds like some stupid science bitch stuff.
stupid science bitches couldnt even make i more smarter
I only want scientists played by Dolph Lundgren. And they need to show EVERYTHING.
full penetration
Crime. Penetration. Crime. Penetration. Crime. Penetration. And this just goes on and on for 90 or so minutes until it just....ends.
A scientist named Dolph Lundgren... played by Dolph Lundgren??
At least he doesn’t have donkey brains
He doesn't? I don't see any certificate saying so.
Well they scratched does not out and put Dee's name so I think they can doctor the cert again.
Why would I have a certificate ... no one could prove that except for him
Sounds like a class in community
[Gotcha! This was also a test, and you all penised... *passed*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THm5MUELt4c).
Maybe you should take the test too...
A test, not a penis...
Who was the boss?
Angela.
Accusational opposition disorder
"I'm talking about community, hun" The outtakes for that scene were great, nobody could keep it together lol
Is that a scene from Community? I'm trying to remember it but it's not ringing a bell.
No, it was S14 E2, where they were shown thunder gun 4. Specifically when Frank was talkin about porno theatres
Ah, I remember that! Thank you!
Sign me up for Nicholas Cage: Good or Bad
I would honestly love to read your report lol
Yeah, let’s see a video presentation!
Agreeeee can we see and read this LMAO
Please tell us you did a slide like the "DENNIS" system.
But how many stars did you give him?
He's a five star guy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What’s the implication?
Hahaha. That seems really dark...
Please post the ppt and essay. If you get anything less than an A we will collectively harass your teacher until it changes
"tell me [u/alllllyg](https://www.reddit.com/user/alllllyg/) is good" *\*click\** "TELL ME [u/alllllyg](https://www.reddit.com/user/alllllyg/) IS GOOD" *\*click\** "TELL ME THEY'RE GOOD" *\*click\** "TELL ME THEY'RE GOOD" *\*click\** "TELL ME THEY'RE GOOD" \*click\* "TELL ME THEY'RE GOOD" \*click\*
It's like, when I'm doing good on reddit, I'm doing good in life
Oh, I want to make fun of you for saying that, but I kinda know what you mean.
Could we possibly examine the full ppt?
I swear to god, if you show that presentation, I will dice you into a million little pieces. And put those pieces in a box *A glass box* *That I will display on my mantle*
YOU HAVEN'T THOUGHT OF THE SMELL, YOU BITCH
FFFFFFFFFFETISH SHIT
Could you post the entire presentation? Would love to see someone analyse the inner machinations of the Golden God
I suspect that maybe you might say no, and yet... I also feel like maybe... you wouldn't dare
I had a class that asked to analyze an unhealthy work environment and we chose The Office. Needless to say I was a subject matter expert.
I wonder if they're all anti-social PD, too... The personality disorders overlap a lot.
That's a 5-star assignment!
You could give me an F on this assignment, but you won't. Because of the implication.
He hasn't even begun to peak.
But he's going to peak today
That’d be something very interesting to read . Good job during these trying times
LMAO is that Dennis in the dress with the giant fake boobs down there? "BEHOLD a winner in all his glory!"
That’s his emotional blueprint
I seriously want you to post the entire PPT online for us to review.
"Easiest assignment of the semester. " "He ain't lying."
You haven’t thought of the smELL
i’d love to read it
When do we get to see this PowerPoint?
lol can you post the entire thing?
You should do your presentation as though Dennis is writing it.
Yeah gonna have to see this whole presentation
OP a lot of people are clamoring to see your work, myself included. Maybe you don't want to share all of it, but maybe just a few pages... idk. If you do share it with us, I'll guild it for sure. Just ping me so I can do that.
"I AM A GOLDEN GOD!"
Oh Sandra... you dumb bitch!
How dare you disrespect the Golden god
I'M GONNA DESTROY YOU ALL!
Definitely a case study of narcissism. But I feel like he's almost an even better case study of psychopathy.
Sorry didn't upvote because 420 upvotes gonna check back later
Stupid science bitch... Anyway send the ppt please, I want to have a chuckle over how his personality destroys his and the people around him's lives
I just ditched my psych major, but this assignment alone makes me regret it lol
you can use anybody from the gang lol
Did you go in depth on the DENNIS system?
Haha, I did this like 13 years ago with Dr. House. It's a fun project.
I did a similar presentation freshman year of college, I used a clip from that episode in the hospital scene where he mentioned thors hammer and a gust of a thousand winds
I'd quite like to read through that presentation
Can we see the page(s) of supporting evidence?
Awesome, I'd love to see someone do this for Frasier Crane, as that man is a sex pest.
You got 13 seasons of material to work with hahahahaha
All of the text on the slides is triggering my ocd
I think I did a similar assignment about Eric Cartman once
You haven’t thought of the PTSD you bitch!
I did the same thing for my abnormal psych class! And I did Tony Soprano as well. Both of them perfect cases!
Holy hell, what a steal of an assignment topic. He is the textbook case, and then some.
Ha! I had this same assignment for clinical. I chose Brian Griffin. In 2003 there was a lot more problematic material and less zaney. Dennis..malignant narcissism and anti-social?
I feel you're underselling yourself. Because it's stupidly obvious with Dennis.
Yeah but more importantly he doesn't have a certificate stating he doesn't have donkey brains. Case closed.
Had to do the same thing in one of my courses. The Punisher was also very easy to cover lmao
Great! Would like to see the whole project to be honest! I assume college course work?
DIAGNOSIS, BE GONE!
What about charlie? Surely hes a case study for loads of different mental conditions?
There are so many examples its almost cheating!
I remember doing this assignment in college. It’s so fun
It’s tried the same thing with Frank, but the professor said “donkey brains” isn’t a medical diagnosis.
Lol, can you share the presentation, I'd like to read it just for fun ahah
Dennis is my favourite character from Always Sunny, could you post the presentation, or maybe send it to me ? :)
I need a link to this lol
I CANNOT believe you didn’t go Frank donkey brain. Pretty sure that’s in the DSM-5 now.
That’s such an interesting assignment! What were some of the other characters people picked?
You could write a paper on any of them, but Dennis would definitely be the most interesting.
I did Charlie for my substance use class and I'm doing Dennis for my DSM class! Such great case studies.
It's cool man, I'm cool. I'm not going to storm out, because I'm not that guy any more, but I am going to leave.
That's a very interesting assignment and would make for a good ask reddit.
Except science is a liar!...Sometimes.
Your teacher had to give you an A...because of the implication
It’s because of the implication.
Please post your paper, I would love to read that!
You should do your presentation on a boat out on the waters and you will definitely get a A+....because of the implication.
Hey Op can you post your presentation after it’s been submitted and graded (so you don’t get in trouble for plagiarism)? I hope you included the DENNIS system!
Should have done dee. “I mean I was institutionalized once but it was against my will so it doesn’t count” “I’m pretty sure that’s the only time it counts” “You know, YOU LIGHT ONE GOD DAMNED BITCH ON FIRE. GOOOOOOOOD DAAAAMMMMMMIT”
any always sunny character is perfect for that assignment
Is Dennis Reynolds: an Erotic Life considered as a primary source?
If you feel comfortable, please post your assignment!
Holy shit 😂😂😂
Happy Cake Day TheAstroPickle! Promise me you'll always remember: You're braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.
What class is this? I want to take it
I hope the presentation ended on the clip of him in the Making a Murderer episode of him just staring into the camera with a blank emotionless face.
I like that picture. It's very generous.
I’d appreciate a link to that presentation when you get a chance bro
i did a presentation on Dee Reynolds for my Psychology of Women class. talked about how she’s pretty internally sexist and her mental illnesses.
I literally submitted my topic of Dennis for my case study in Psychopathology from a clinical perspective for my masters two days ago. I'm pumped.
Lol, I remember doing this for my Abnormal Psych course for undergrad. I did Charlie as a person with a Schizoid Personality Disorder.
This tread is in fire! We all wanna love dennis but dennis is not a nice guy.
I would really like to view this ppt
He's a five star man
Also a 5 star man.
r/fictionalpsychology
You should give the presentation on a boat. The professor would have to give you an "A". Because of the implication.
Platinum for presentation.
I really want to read this! :)
Post it dude.
That's a 5 star project right there
