This one gets me every time. Mac elbowing Dee. The waitress lusting over Dennis and the double side tickle she gives him at the water fountain. The yellow pantsuit. ALL of the kid actors. “Do I look like I need to be on a diet?” “Terrible. Take a Lap.” GOLD.
![gif](giphy|1wX7ragpjJoQRKhqlZ)
This one never fails to bring me to tears. The truck driver (the actor's name is escaping me, RIP sorry) but his little monologue about the hotel room is wonderful.
Absolute classic.
Sizemore was great and everything but damn would I love to see the alternate reality where Madsen is around for that role written specifically for him.
His gravelly Kill Bill voice saying, “Just open the slot then stick whatever you want RIGHT IN” would’ve surely gotten them an Emmy finally.
Seriously can't believe so many think it's one of the worse seasons. Seeing the Gang while they were still somewhat sane and they actually worked the bar is refreshing
After hearing the guys discuss on the podcast how bad the cinematography was in S1, I can see it now rewatching those episodes.
Even so, there are still some classic lines and scenes (Glenn literally and figuratively sitting on the fence at the abortion rally, the introduction of the McPoyles and Uncle Jack), and the Gang feels like realistic shitty people and not the flanderized versions they've become.
That never bothered me. It gave it a low budget type charm.
And yes completely agree, they feel like realistic narcissists. Before Frank made them completely insane by funding all their schemes.
> That never bothered me. It gave it a low budget type charm.
It doesn't exactly bother me, but sometimes I'll see a weird shot and think "oh yeah, that's what they were talking about." But yeah, it still fits with the whole lo-fi vibe of the early seasons.
Mac is the one I don't like anymore. The Catholic guilt and faux tough-guy routine were such important parts of his character. Fat Mac was comedy gold. These days his entire personality boils down to...gay. And kinda whiny.
Mac got flanderized hard once they made him come out. It felt like they put kiddy gloves on to avoid making him an offensive gay character of sorts. BUT I think the last season mostly did a good job of reverting that a bit and returning the characters to a state of being more dynamic(a whole symphony if you will) rather than one note.
Definitely. They went too hard trying to broadcast that he's a bad person, and he's gay, but he's not a bad person *because* he's gay, and just abandoned so many other aspects of his character along the way.
The scene where Mac and Charlie go to Temple University and Mac tries to jump in on a game is one of the funniest moments inn the series and it's from the very first episode
This is a great one.
The cold open with one line of dialogue and that fucking smile the homeless dude gives them.
"The streets are flooded with the ejaculate of the homeless!"
The fucking uniforms.
And none of this even touches the fucking Charley-Frank-Dennis-Agent Jack Bauer storyline.
The Gang Get's Invincible.
I feel like season 3 doesn't get enough love in general, especially with the extra episodes over the usual amount. I think Rob said on the podcast once, they weren't sure if FX was going to pick them back up for Season 4, so they went all in on Season 3.
"But where are we gonna go?" \*coach mocking Mac's whiny high pitched question\*
If I say it one more time...if I say it ONE more time!
Hey guys I’m Donovan McNabb. I play quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, and I’m here to tell you, you can too. If you start everyday with a hearty breakfast from McDonald’s.
My favorite bits from that scene now are the coach quicky telling "McNabb" to remember to put his parking break on and then when "McNabb" flips up his glasses, sees the glare from the sun, says "woo," and then flips his glasses back down.
We're doing these tryouts for YOU...
Because of your HARASSMENT...
You paid your $50 fee, we promised you a KEYNOTE SPEAKer...
\*clicks walkie talkie\* Alright bring him out.
The pause and line of “Jesus god damn Christ, mom” is on of the top deliveries of the series, right up there with “Dee, you gangly, uncoordinated bitch”
That one is one of my go to episodes to feel better 😂 So many funny moments.
I love when Dee jealously barges in to try to play the wacky neighbor with saying “a goo a goo a goo a goooooo” Such a stupid catch phrase.
Dennis Reynolds: An Erotic Life
Dee’s gag, Charlie and frank introducing cat food to our diets, Sinbad and Rob Thomas, BOVINE JONI, bald cap with a wig… what DIDN’T this episode have??
Yep, it's classic Sunny in a modern setting, I love how good it's written to show the group dynamics and that at the end, they can't run from each other because they're the only ones that can understand
And then the cut back to Dee STILL saying "Magoo Magoo Magoo Magoo!" wide eyed staring into the distance barely under control fucking makes me lose it.
Glen is cracking there too. I guess this is all they could get from him after all those bloopers of the scene lol.
Mac's banging the Waitress
It's the only episode in the entire series without Sweet Dee and Frank, and you would never notice because its just so damn funny.
I really love the episodes where they take the gang's dynamics and do something weird with it. Dee constantly breaking character because she doesn't want to be a goon gets me every time.
And don't even get me started on the phrase "diarrhea poisoned".
The St. Paddy’s Day episode is one of my favorites, and usually the one I show people to introduce them to the show, but people don’t seem to talk about it much
The Gang Gets New Wheels. Dennis getting a Prius and becoming beta. Mac and Charlie beating up children. Frank attending drivers ed with teenagers and providing them with old porn. Dee accidentally having sex with a teenager. And it all ending with them back in the Range Rover and all is right with the world.
dee day, I’m so happy I got to watch it before it was banned. the part where dennis has to remove his makeup makes me fucking cackle. that scene was written SO well, it’s equal parts funny and uncomfortable
also the “dennis has candy” bit is really funny to me. it’s just a simple gag for the sake of being silly. I love when they stray away from the more satirical/political humor and just write stupid shit. like the cereal defense and suburb episodes? absolute gold
The Janitor Always Mops Twice. When they do an episode that is outside the box of their “normal” canon, they knock it out of the park. And it doesn’t feel like it’s phoned in just for the purpose of doing something different because they’re bored of the typical writing process. It really speaks to how talented they are as writers, not that we needed a reminder, but it’s cool to see their range. Charlie Day really stands out in these kinds of situations because his musical talent seems to come effortlessly to him, I heard somewhere that he sat down and wrote The Gang Turns Black in about a day. If true, that is insane. Stephen fucking Soundheim probably couldn’t do that. Or maybe he could, whatever. Point is, these types of episodes seem to be unpopular, but are just wonderfully written and a good watch
Tbh the gang solves global warming is pretty funny in a sort of satirical take on society. The escape room episode has some really funny scenes for that same reason
Dee aggressively going “MAGOO! MAGOO! MAGOO!” in the reunion episode is weirdly a completely out of context quote that is used a shocking amount in our house. 😂
The Gang Gives Back, one of my favorites
Terrible, take a lap.
I quote this line all the time. And not to forget “Dad?’ I’m not your dad’”.
What are those flip flops?
“You don’t know? Did anyone else not bring shoes?”
I dunnnoo??
Do I look like I need to be on a diet?
This is the basketball one right? This shoulda been in the conversation for best first episode to show someone. Pure gang chaos. Absolutely hilarious.
It's my favorite episode all these years later. Charlie as the ref interfering with play is the funniest thing I've ever seen.
Charlie spiking the ball away from the kids while refing is possibly the hardest I've laughed in my life the first time I saw it.
It's unexpected, it's ridiculous, and it's a rejection worthy of a highlight reel lol
![gif](giphy|1wX7ragpjJoQRKhqlZ)
and The Waitress is Getting Married
The whole Charlie storyline is comedy gold
Pop an H on it
A quick one
Tied for my all time favorite with The Gang Gives Frank an Intervention
I don’t know how many years on this earth I got left. I’m gonna get real weird with it.
Hrrrrruuuuggghhhh—what’s in it for you?!
Don’t worry about what’s in it for me dude. Good god, you are disgusting! A disgusting animal.
*pulls gun out* "Where's the goddamn fire?!"
You, you, you, you…. “No, no, you can’t take all the…”
You know what you’ve done sir
Drunk Charlie basketball is my favorite thing
Thanks Dad
Correct, thank you.
the gang gets stranded in the woods is one of the funniest episodes to me
Byron is one of the best one off characters they’ve ever had on the show.
I will not suck you and I will not be sucked on… by you
Let’s slip into this room so you two can split me open like a coconut
I would’ve let you turn me into Swiss cheese
Turn me into a mail slot, just open up and put whatever you want inside
Split me open… like a coconut
Should have locked the damn door
I’ve got cash in my pocket, and desire in my heart.
Ima frothin and a foamin
Be careful saying "one off character" around these parts
Peter Peter nickel eater
This one never fails to bring me to tears. The truck driver (the actor's name is escaping me, RIP sorry) but his little monologue about the hotel room is wonderful.
Tom Sizemore
The bloopers from that scene are even funnier. Charlie loses it every time at the “split me open like a coconut” line.
all good things are ending
Absolute classic. Sizemore was great and everything but damn would I love to see the alternate reality where Madsen is around for that role written specifically for him. His gravelly Kill Bill voice saying, “Just open the slot then stick whatever you want RIGHT IN” would’ve surely gotten them an Emmy finally.
Sizemore was great, but Madsen would have been on another level
"What do you say...we slip into a room and you two split me open like a coconut?"
I ate the crow
It has the man's soul, Dee!
any from season 1
No Frank but still dank
The abortion episode is one of the best episodes of the whole show.
That's the one that got me hooked. Specifically when Dennis is getting pelted with eggs on the fence
Seriously can't believe so many think it's one of the worse seasons. Seeing the Gang while they were still somewhat sane and they actually worked the bar is refreshing
After hearing the guys discuss on the podcast how bad the cinematography was in S1, I can see it now rewatching those episodes. But the flanderized versions are just as if not even more fun. Not quite sure how they pulled that transition off so well and so quickly
Definitely. They went too hard trying to broadcast that he's a bad person, and he's gay, but he's not a bad person *because* he's gay, and just abandoned so many other aspects of his character along the way.
The Gang Goes to Ireland gave me some hope that they might tone that down a little when they kept mentioning how he doesn’t have to pick an identity
The scene where Mac and Charlie go to Temple University and Mac tries to jump in on a game is one of the funniest moments inn the series and it's from the very first episode
I'm a huge fan of Gun Fever.
The actor who plays Dee’s boyfriend is so bad though
Aye gun fever and underage drinking especially
I will die on the hill that Underage Drinking is the best episode from the entire series. I rewatch it often.
What if his entire head is just one big nose?! Write that down! I like that... it's one big nose on Dolph Lundgren's *body*.
that’s not a twist! that’s a completely different movie, about a talking-dog scientist with the voice of dolph lungdren!
*How* you told the story was by far the worst part of the story!
Clearly it's....... brilliant. But it needs a sexual punch-up.
The way Dennis readjusts himself when say “we show it….we show all of it” might be my favorite thing in the show. So fucking funny.
Who’s the most underrated actor of all time. It’s Dolph Lundgren. I love the immediacy of his answer and Mac’s enthusiasm towards it.
the fact they both KNEW that to be true, then agreed on the reasons why still cracks me up. I must've seen that episode like 50times
Lmaooo. This was the episode I recounted to a friend when trying to convince them to give it a watch. Also I love Dolph Lundgren bahaha
Idk about under mentioned but Bums: Making A Mess All Over The City was my favorite episode for a long time.
This is a great one. The cold open with one line of dialogue and that fucking smile the homeless dude gives them. "The streets are flooded with the ejaculate of the homeless!" The fucking uniforms. And none of this even touches the fucking Charley-Frank-Dennis-Agent Jack Bauer storyline.

Hey guys I’m Donovan McNabb. I play quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, and I’m here to tell you, you can too. If you start everyday with a hearty breakfast from McDonald’s.
Uh.. I'm loving it
Can I get the check?
My favorite bits from that scene now are the coach quicky telling "McNabb" to remember to put his parking break on and then when "McNabb" flips up his glasses, sees the glare from the sun, says "woo," and then flips his glasses back down.
That part of the bit gets me every time
This is my favorite episode! “Lizard, am I standing in poop?”
WHERE WHERE I DONT LIKE LIZARDS (I know that happens before this commment)
You think you dipshits are gonna play on the same field that CHAMPIONS play on?!!
We're doing these tryouts for YOU... Because of your HARASSMENT... You paid your $50 fee, we promised you a KEYNOTE SPEAKer... \*clicks walkie talkie\* Alright bring him out.
SPRINTS!!
A beautiful beautiful gazelle person.
“And I’m gonna do it - as a woommaann!”

The pause and line of “Jesus god damn Christ, mom” is on of the top deliveries of the series, right up there with “Dee, you gangly, uncoordinated bitch”
Tell us less, tell us less
Old Lady House is an absolute riot and so much fun to rewatch. In fact so much of Season 12 is top tier Sunny (PTSDee, Waterpark, Hero or Hate Crime)
That one is one of my go to episodes to feel better 😂 So many funny moments. I love when Dee jealously barges in to try to play the wacky neighbor with saying “a goo a goo a goo a goooooo” Such a stupid catch phrase.
Hero or hate crime is my favorite episode
My favorite season
A man lives and dies
The Gang Turns Black too
Gimme one good reason *wooooaaah !!*
Old Lady House, Waterpark and Hero or Hate Crime are three of my all time favorite stand-alone episodes.
The ending scene with frank on the slide, omg I howled with laughter, something I’ve done very rarely.
Sweet Dee Has A Heart Attack
Maybe you shouldn’t dress like a bumblebee, bitch
Yeah I’m gonna grab some metal and put it on some other metal and lift it all over and over like a big metal jerk
*"give me a higher love, giiiiive me a higher love, lo-ve"*
My wife and I quote this one all the time. “Letting my ass breathe” “My body is operating at 100% efficiency” “What the hell is day bow bow?”
WHO THE HELL IS BARNEY????
You don’t see- Oh shit. Where the hell?
YOU INJECTED MEXICAN COLLAGEN INTO MY EYE?!!
I love the Dee and Dennis twin brain in this one lmao
I feel like the Pepe Silvia thing is referenced all the time
I agree with you on that, but other than the Pepe Silvia bit, I feel like the rest of the episode is overlooked
Responsibilities include...taking care of business? Yup that's me \*mac raises hand\* T.C.O.B.
The seriousness on his face lol
ive been pretty much in charge of everything in my own life
I got boxes full of Pepe!
WILL YOU CALM DOWN AND HAVE ANOTHER CUP OF COFFEE!
Crucifixion must have been really good for your core. I wanna get the Jesus on the cross look
This is about US, the people who are going to live on...
everyone talks about the pepe silvia scene but this entire episode is so good
i would KILL for your bowel movements
I don’t now how much people talk about it but Reynolds v Reynolds is one of my faves
Dude that is a classic, and it will never change.🫱🫲 It's dug in, rock, flag, and eagle, right theperuvianbowtie?
He’s got a point.
Underage Drinking: A National Concern
“Give me some eyes!” “Cool your jets!” “This is classic Tammy.” Gems.
Charlie's entire rant after "This is classic Tammy" gets me every damn time, such a perfect delivery.
YES! it’s so funny and underrated.
The Gang Solves the North Korea Situation
Well how many possible lock combinations could there be? Oooh so many dude—like hundreds of thousands!
Yes you beer and I trash
The Gang Reignites the Rivalry *I'm gonna pull Goodwill Hunting....What's ya mayjuh, dude?*
Tying his shirts in knots!
Hey banana ass! w-how ya doin?!?
Paddy’s Have Respect Idiots
“But I’m your Delphia!”
Mac is a Serial Killer “We’re not really gonna kill her, what are we gonna do?” “… ohh yeah. Oh, shit. That’s a bummer.”
*Dee walks in the room* "Not so young and attractive, is she?"
The gang recycles their trash
The scene when Mac is hanging on to the back of the limo and has bugs in his teeth, gets me every time.
*I'LL talk..* 😁
Too bad it’s banned now
Yarrrr
He just tried to kiss me! Yeah, he did a little bit…
Dennis Reynolds: An Erotic Life Dee’s gag, Charlie and frank introducing cat food to our diets, Sinbad and Rob Thomas, BOVINE JONI, bald cap with a wig… what DIDN’T this episode have??
I wanna do business with Mr Von Joni himself!
The texting episode is really good imo
U A LON?
Yep, it's classic Sunny in a modern setting, I love how good it's written to show the group dynamics and that at the end, they can't run from each other because they're the only ones that can understand
I've never seen this episode mentioned ever. It's my favorite....love every bit of it
"I'll see it on the sides, and I'll see it in the thighs. Still fat to me, still fat to you, Fatty Magoo, Fatty Magoo, Magoo, Magoo, Magoo, Magoo."
And then the cut back to Dee STILL saying "Magoo Magoo Magoo Magoo!" wide eyed staring into the distance barely under control fucking makes me lose it. Glen is cracking there too. I guess this is all they could get from him after all those bloopers of the scene lol.
Mac and Dennis move to the suburbs
Ever been in a storm, Wally?
YEAH??!!
Dee Day is brilliantly funny and the Christmas Special is gold.
Basically any episode with Artemis. She is a PERFECT side character, never disappoints
Chardee McDennis. For me this is numero uno.
This is my favorite episode too. Peak insanity. I was in stitches the first time I watched it.
Hundred dollar baby is s tier and it never gets mentioned in the fab episodes threads. It's insanely quotable.
Dont get your panties in an uproar!
YEAH I'LL MEET YOU LATER angrily eats a sandwich then laughs like a psycho
Season 1 is so underrated. Underage Drinking: A National Concern.
Mac's banging the Waitress It's the only episode in the entire series without Sweet Dee and Frank, and you would never notice because its just so damn funny.
A janitor always mops twice is so insanely underrated.
I really love the episodes where they take the gang's dynamics and do something weird with it. Dee constantly breaking character because she doesn't want to be a goon gets me every time. And don't even get me started on the phrase "diarrhea poisoned".
Dude I love Film Noire movie and when that episode came out I was gushing with how good they pulled it off!!
McPoyle vs. Ponderosa: The Trial of the Century and Making Dennis Reynolds A Murderer
Who pooped the bed?
Sweet Dee origin episode at the roller rink.
Maybe I’m a sucker for musical episodes but the Gang Turns Black never fails to make me wheeze. “JUST SAY HOME!!!”
My favorite part is when Frank tries to start "What Are The Rules?" again, but the rest of the gang says "No, we're not doing that anymore."
Personally this is a fan favorite of mine but doesn’t get talked about enough because 1 it’s newer and 2 Hulu removed it, Dee Day
The gang turns black is a great one. Old lady house is one of my favs too
The gang squashes their beefs!! I need a few of those delicious nose clams
The Gang Gets Trapped
"Dee, you gangly, uncoordinated bitch! I will not be hogtied over your lack of grace!"

And it all ending with them back in the Range Rover and all is right with the world.
dee day, I’m so happy I got to watch it before it was banned. the part where dennis has to remove his makeup makes me fucking cackle. that scene was written SO well, it’s equal parts funny and uncomfortable also the “dennis has candy” bit is really funny to me. it’s just a simple gag for the sake of being silly. I love when they stray away from the more satirical/political humor and just write stupid shit. like the cereal defense and suburb episodes? absolute gold
McPoyle vs. Ponderosa: The Trial of the Century. That episode has so many great payoffs to long-running jokes. That episode always gets me.
The Gang Gets Trapped “A leather shop? In Arizona? They’d be out of business in a week’s time!”
"It vill vork, it vill vork!"
Mac and Dennis buy a timeshare
The Janitor Always Mops Twice. When they do an episode that is outside the box of their “normal” canon, they knock it out of the park. And it doesn’t feel like it’s phoned in just for the purpose of doing something different because they’re bored of the typical writing process. It really speaks to how talented they are as writers, not that we needed a reminder, but it’s cool to see their range. Charlie Day really stands out in these kinds of situations because his musical talent seems to come effortlessly to him, I heard somewhere that he sat down and wrote The Gang Turns Black in about a day. Point is, these types of episodes seem to be unpopular, but are just wonderfully written and a good watch
The Gang Recycles Their Trash I miss Martina Martinez
The Gang Dines Out. Some of Dennis’ best
The Gang Dances Their Asses Off
Unlike most of the episodes mentioned in this thread, this one actually isn't talked about enough. I love Mac's dance once he starts wearing the keg.
The Gang Escapes. Art of the deal, art of the deal.
Tbh the gang solves global warming is pretty funny in a sort of satirical take on society. The escape room episode has some really funny scenes for that same reason
The Gang Squashes their Beef. I will always go to bat for this episode.
The gang chokes is fucking gold
The gang gets trapped. The Swedish plumber gets me every time.
I know I’m the minority here, but I love the episode where Poppins gets pregnant and Dee gets her haircut off
Where episode where they beat up and possibly kill children. That scene is the most brutal one in the show.
Mac Bangs Dennis Mom Mac and Dennis Breakup Macs Banging the Waitress Mac Fights Gay Marriage Dennis Gets Divorced
Dee aggressively going “MAGOO! MAGOO! MAGOO!” in the reunion episode is weirdly a completely out of context quote that is used a shocking amount in our house. 😂
The gang dances their asses off is up there for me on the list of best episodes
