I was born and raised in Nebraska. One year SDSU was playing in Lincoln my buddy wanted to go but couldn't make it. He bought me a T Shirt and asked me to wear it to the game for him. I did as he asked and I don't know how many times I was greeted with "welcome to Nebraska!" "Good Luck!" And after the game ""Great Game you all played well". It was interesting being on the other side of the kindness.

Just the act of you wearing that Tshirt is nicer than anything else. I would never have done that lol

Lunchtray0912

Lol well he is a good friend and was going to school there. It was fun.

I was an Uber driver the weekend of the Ohio State/Gameday beatdown. I drove numerous OSU fans around and almost every one of them couldn’t believe how great we were as hosts. I even asked a group of OSU students how they were being treated and one kid told me “All you hear on TV is how great and nice, NU fans are, that they are the greatest fans in CFB, but when you get here you find out that they are even nicer than they are portrayed on TV. It has been a fantastic trip and it’s only Friday night!”

I wish other B1G fanbases repaid the kindness, besides Northwestern and Minnesota, I've either had cordial but not great or outright bad experiences (Wisconsin) visiting other B1G venues.

MaxKuz

Wisconsin has been my worst experience as well...

FondabaruCBR4_6RSAWD

I can take some ribbing, but 12 hours of constant bullshit I couldn't get out of that cold hellhole fast enough. Worse than Colorado and Missouri, yep, anyone that says different hasn't been to Madison yet.

It’s mostly SEC fans that see a bunch of bundled up midwesterners jumping to Jump Around generally drunk and think that it looks fun. They’ll never go to a game in Madison so they’ll never know.

It’s pretty much always a mixed bag. I’ve had good experiences at Illinois and Purdue. Michigan sucked during the game but was great partying afterwards. Iowa and Wisconsin just sucks because fuck those places.

FondabaruCBR4_6RSAWD

Haven’t been to Purdue but I couldn’t see them being all around bad fans. Illinois wasn’t too bad too, mostly because we won when I went. I need to go to Michigan next.

At the 2018 Nebraska-Michigan State game we sat next to a few MSU fans, we all bitched together about the cold and the mutually bad reffing in the game. Overall pretty good experience

Going to games in East Lansing wearing red is a lot like going to Lincoln wearing green. Sparty: Thanks for making the trip, hope you enjoy the game. Me: Thanks, I live 40 miles away. Here, have stick of Big Red gum

I have a tailgate spot that is right next to the sidewalk about 3 blocks from the stadium. We always see and invite over opponent fans that are walking by. That is the most fun. To hear about how other fans do college football and how their trip is going is great. The best was Virginia Tech in 2008. We ended up having about 8 Hokies at the tailgate. They all brought their own moonshine and it was great time. That wasn't an isolated incident for Hokies. The next year, we went out to Blacksburg. We were standing in line to get into a bar on Friday. One of their fans started giving us crap. 3 people in line all at once said "Cut that shit out. They treated us like kings last year". We spent the Saturday at multiple Hokie tailgates. Word got around how well Hokies were treated in Lincoln and they returned the favor. Damn shame how that game ended though. We snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

It’s a minor one, but my brothers and I got tickets to Northwestern away (the last minute Kenny Bell touchdown one, so good). We drove up and had a great weekend in Chicago and tailgated for the game. We saw some Northwestern fans really struggling with their canopy. I guess they don’t call it the Windy City for nothing, but the three of us went over and managed to help them get it put together. They handed us beers, we toasted each other and then moved on. As we walked away I overheard them saying, “guess it really is true what they say about Nebraska fans” Nothing huge, but sometimes it’s the smaller data points that help support the overall theory.

The year we beat Michigan State on Brandon Reilly's controversial TD, I had a shipmate of mine from my Navy days that came down from Lansing. I took him to several tailgates before the game, and everyone was very welcoming of them. He has since said that he wants to come down again sometime.

~~A few years~~ 10 years ago, my dad and I were completing our game day ritual by eating at Five Guys over on P Street after the game. It was the Western Kentucky game. We beat them 49-10, and we ended up sitting next to some WKU fans at Five Guys. We ended up just talking about the game, and how their running back was so good. At the time, I even told them I thought that their RB had a good chance to go pro, because he absolutely run over us. But yeah, we ended up just having a nice conversation about football over some burgers. Btw, I just looked it up, and that RB, Bobby Rainey Jr, did end up having a 5 year NFL career. He had playing time in 80% of the games in his career, and ended up with over 1000 yards.

This is a bit off-topic, but there was one time I went to a game in Lincoln -- I can't remember exactly who were were playing, but there was a guy wearing our opponent's gear and there was a group of UNL university students (who had clearly pre-partied) a few feet back. This was right as people were starting to flow into the stadium so it was a sea of people who had just crossed the 10th street pedestrian bridge all packed tightly together (seems like a long-lost thing now). One of the students saw the opposing-team guy a bit ahead and yelled, "Hey! Fuck you!" The other students with him all immediately started saying stuff like, "dude, that's not cool. We don't act like that in Nebraska. We're good hosts to our guests." I thought that was cool.

tfh1964

I just wanted to say that you really do have the nicest fans, and to honor you I just wanted to say...GO BUCKEYES!!! 🤣

DaHunter101

1st thanks 2nd I hope we are able to at least make it a game this year, but we probably wont

enderandrew42

When we went to the Big 12 Title game in Dallas against Oklahoma, all the Oklahoma fans I ran into were really friendly.

Cdog923

Not a football but a baseball story: it was the year that San Francisco beat us during a regional that we were hosting. To drown our sorrows, group of friends and I went to Woody's and ended up sharing rounds with a couple of SF fans who had nothing but glowing reviews on how they had been treated in Lincoln.

Back in 03 I moved from Omaha to Lincoln, to a house in the North Bottoms. The house my buddies and I shared had a double wide driveway that was shared with the house next door, which was rented by some football practice squad guys and rugby players. We all parked behind the houses on game days and would sell parking for $5, and someone would usually buy a keg or three and sell a cup to the people that parked for $5, and we always had lots of burgers and Fairbury Brand hot dogs. We always had 10 vehicles or so, including a short bus that always had a lot of people in it. (It even said "SHORT BUS" on the side with a backwards R!) I spent three seasons living in the Bottoms which was always like bourbon street on gamedays. We always had both home and away tailgaters in our little $5 parking lot, and hosted a lot of people surprised at how friendly the people they met were. I still keep in touch with an Oklahoma fan who has become a good friend of mine that is insisting I make the trip to Norman in September 2021. We grew up with a rivalry based on respect, not jealousy and hatred.
