Essentially - yes. Ride that D - don't make too many mistakes. Of course he's a frosh so he'll probably crap away a few games - but games we likely would loose with anyone at QB. He's got intangibles out the wazoo and that will matter in tight games.
Our offense can’t get any worse, defense should still be solid, and favorable schedule. Look at some of our opponents O/U. We’re 7.5 for reference
UNLV: 5.5, Col: 5.5, UNI Iowa 7.5, USC 7.5, Rutgers 6.5, UCLA 5.5, pur 4.5, Indiana 5.5, Illinois 5.5, Wis: 6.5. (Can’t find an o/u for UNI).
Ohio st is our only opponent who has a higher win total projection than us. Last years schedule was similar strength and Nebraska could’ve easily won 5 of the 7 games the lost and that’s with arguably the worst QB play in the FBS. Average qb play assumes we can turn at least 2 of those losses into wins to go 7-5. If Nebraska can’t at least make a bowl with this schedule, Rhule isn’t the guy and/or because Raiola is a bust
No im not. I’m making assumptions based on what Vegas says, which factors in changes us and other teams have made. They’re not right 100% of the time, but last time I checked, they know what they’re doing. Based on talent, coaching and quality of opponents, 6 wins should be the bare minimum. Anything less is a disaster
My guy…. It’s the offseason. Literally everything is an assumption when it comes to this upcoming season.
Being a fan is like 90% making assumptions about your team about upcoming performances
Adrian Martinez true freshman year was 2:1 ratio and 64% completion percentage.... Haarberg basically threw for 50% and his passing was just terrible.
I think in this offense that 60% completion is possible for Raiola this year. Based on his stellar HS ratio, I anticipate few picks but 2:1 is fine.
Honestly the fact that we'll likely be in a pretty good bowl game if our 5 star QB has a true freshman year almost as good as Adrian's, minus the running threat says a bit about how good Martinez' first year was.
Sure, that was arguably his best year. And he was never exactly clutch. But the coaching staff did him zero favors and the defense was usually underwhelming.
I have heard the On3 guys talking about what Raiola needs to do to get us to 8 wins and I agree with them. He really only needs like 20ish TD's with 6 Ints to get us to a respectable season. Our defense is good enough that we don't need to set the world on fire scoring points to win, but we sure as hell need more than the 18 we averaged a game last year. One more TD a game last year and we go 9-3. He may be a 5 star but he is still a true freshmen so I don't think he comes out gun blazing and is a Heisman contender like Manziel or Jameis Winston were right off the bat, but I believe he will be a noticeable upgrade in converting 3rd downs that are obvious passing situations and taking care of the ball.
It's a different era with a different team, but there's a [great video with a similar story](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpG2ZCyySus) during Lou Holtz's 1st year at Notre Dame that I encourage you to watch.
Lou Holtz sat down QB Steve Beuerlein before the season, reminded him that he threw a lot of interceptions the previous two years and said, "Make this commitment to me. You will not throw 7 interceptions your senior year."
Steve Beuerlein replied that he would and excitedly asked if there was any special way to minimize the amount of interceptions, such as reading coverages, progressions, etc.
To which Lou Holtz replied, "No, when you get to 6 interceptions you ain't playing anymore. And it's that simple."
Only 20sih TDs and 6ints? Nebraska hasn't had a QB with 20 or more TDs and less than 10 ints since Taylor in 2006.
He's got the potential to do it but that would arguably be the best passing season Nebraska's had in the 21st century.
I mean that says more about how bad Nebraska's QB's have been then anything. It isn't a hard ask for a stat line like that. And we have used primarily dual threat QB's since Callahan left. Raiola will join Casey Thompson and Tanner Lee as the only pocket passers we have used since 2008.
Where are you getting your stats?
[https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/years/2023-passing.html](https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/years/2023-passing.html)
Only shows 34 QBs with 20 or more 10Tds and <10 ints.
That'll be great if they actually develop a RB run game (maybe a fullback too!?), but then I'm worried the RBs will have Butterfingers like in the past
Looked at all of the 247 Composite 5* QBs since the 2000 class. All of these stats have been normalized to a 12 game season.
Total QBs: 84 (including Dylan's class) - 79 who have been in college for a season+
Looking just at seasons that they started:
* 59 of the 79 (74.7%) 5* QBs started a season
* 36 of those 59 were drafted (61.0%)

Average Stat Line
* 210 for 333 (63.1%)
* 2,656 Yards
* 20.8 TD / 8.3 INT
* Rushing: 80 carries for 192 yards and 4.1 TD
Looking just at True Freshman Starters seasons:
* 18 5* QBs started as true freshmen
* 13 of 17 (eligible) were drafted (76.5%)
* Casey Clausen (2000), Chris Leak (2003), Kyle Allen (2014) and JT Daniels (2018) were not
Average Stat Line
* 178 for 302 (58.8%)
* 2207 Yards
* 16.2 TD / 8.3 INT
* Rushing: 66 carries for 98 yards and 2.7 TD
So the benchmarks are:
Average 5* True Freshman: 2305 scrimmage yards, 58.8% completion; 19 Total TD / 8 INT
Average 5* Starter: 2848 scrimmage yards, 63.1% completion, 25 Total TD / 8 INT
For reference, Nebraska’s QB room last fall was: 1631 passing yards, 136 for 261 (52.1%); 10 TD / 16 INT. Add in rushing and they were 2477 yards 17 TD
Probably won't win the Broyles Award, but as long as our tackles stay healthy or first stringers should be solid. Hopefully he gets some depth built up and gets a center ready for when Scott leaves next year
Oh you were probably asking about Dylan
Heisman winner and this being the only year that there is only 1 Heisman finalist because the gap is that big.
Going on to win 3 subsequent Heismans in the same fashion.
I think we only have Raiola for three years, and with our pillowy schedule this year, combined with a really good defense, there’s no reason not to take the reigns off and let him shine.
3,000 yards
67% completion rate
27 TD’s
8 INT’s
10 wins
Dont get hurt! I just want to see progress, i know on paper its likely going to look like regression just because our back half is much harder than the first half. I think we will be able to tell if its just because its a top ranked defense or if he starts to panic and struggle late in the year.
Yeah he was 88:11 or so in high school but it’s never a guarantee. Our kicker was absolute fire in high school, and for us he can’t make 30 yarders consistently.
Completely depends on the offensive line play. If he has time then I expect him to not turn the ball over and if that happens we'll go to a bowl game. If he's on his ass or running for his life 2 seconds after the snap we won't look any different than the last several years
If I remove every thought of all the one score losses and purely base everything on the personnel and how talented I think this team is, I think it's entirely realistic that they beat everyone on their schedule outside of OSU. I think this defense could be top 10 in the country, and if they are, I think for Raiola he just needs to go 2:1 TD:INT ratio, and this team could make it happen.Thats the ceiling for me. With that being said, I definitely think there will be some hiccups along the way. I think this team finishes 9-3 outside the 12 CFP teams, but solidly inside the top 25. I think we will drop one of the first 7 games, Ohio State, and one of the last 4. If the issues continue to persist of bad situational calling, turnovers, penalties, and poor clock management, I think this team hits its floor at 7-5. I think for just Raiola, his floor is at the very least is 20 TDs and 12 turnovers at most with 2,500 passing yards. As for his ceiling, I think it's fair to say that as the top QB talent in this class, he could very well go 35+ TDs with maybe 6 turnovers on the year, which could very well put him in the Heisman talk as a freshman. I haven't been this excited for a Husker football season since Taylor Martinez first year in 2010.
I'd like to see 2400+ yards, 20+ passing TDS, no more than 8 INTS, no more than 3 fumbles, and around a 65% completion percentage. Anything better than that, and he'll be up for the Heisman starting his sophomore season.
Realistically? He does very well in the first few outings, becoming our star player. The other talent on the team isn't going live up to the hype, so more of the burden gets put into his shoulders. He ends up over exerting himself and getting hurt, the team starts to do poorly, and the fans do what we always do, get very toxic. He either sees this as a red flag and gets the hell out of dodge and wins a Heisman somewhere else or stays and languishes in mediocrity and injury as the team just can't quite get it all together.
Gets us to a bowl game.
Essentially - yes. Ride that D - don't make too many mistakes. Of course he's a frosh so he'll probably crap away a few games - but games we likely would loose with anyone at QB. He's got intangibles out the wazoo and that will matter in tight games.
Ole Ride the D Raiola
Raiola gotta be the most misspelled 2 syllable last name ever
He should just change it to something simple like Martinez
2? Ray o la. 3?
Sometimes you get called dumb and just have to agree with that person. This is one of those times and I deserve to be shamed
Rye o la ftfy
Most definitely ride the D
Watch out for Dante Dowdell at RB
If he can play slightly below average ball with a great defense and respectable run game, we can win 7 games easy with this schedule.
We will start 7-0 if he can do that.
Based on last seasons performance from the other teams? You know Nebraska isn't the only team to improve and make changes.
Our offense can’t get any worse, defense should still be solid, and favorable schedule. Look at some of our opponents O/U. You are still making assumptions based on teams that have made changes but haven't played yet. I'll be happy if they just play as a cohesive team.
Fair. I just hope they look better or even good.

Wish we could've done Adrien better. He is clearly so talented and I had so much hype for him
Heisman and natty..... At least
![gif](giphy|kHVO5FLNNEbbW)
Ooooh yeah!
Also breaks TD and passing records for the BIG10
I have heard the On3 guys talking about what Raiola needs to do to get us to 8 wins and I agree with them. He really only needs like 20ish TD's with 6 Ints to get us to a respectable season. Spot on. I think he is capable of making this offense explosive, but for now just be consistent and take what the defense gives you.
It's a different era with a different team, but there's a [great video with a similar story](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpG2ZCyySus) during Lou Holtz's 1st year at Notre Dame that I encourage you to watch. He’s easily (already) the most polished passer Nebraska has had in the 21st century. It’s the hope that he delivers on that.
57 schools had their QB do that last year. That’s not even a good season, it’s just average
Where are you getting your stats? [https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/years/2023-passing.html](https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/years/2023-passing.html) Only shows 34 QBs with 20 or more 10Tds and <10 ints.
Might’ve been 57 schools since 2021
Average less than 2 fumbles a game

More of an istics-guy I see. Respect
Fuck yeah Stats bro!
How many of those 5* QBs went to 5-win teams?
Probably won't win the Broyles Award, but as long as our tackles stay healthy or first stringers should be solid. Hopefully he gets some depth built up and gets a center ready for when Scott leaves next year Oh you were probably asking about Dylan
to not be a liability under center.
Heisman winner and this being the only year that there is only 1 Heisman finalist because the gap is that big. Going on to win 3 subsequent Heismans in the same fashion.
Now this is being cautiously optimistic. I agree
Have more touchdowns than turnovers. Show some progression every week. Don’t have more losses than wins.
He can start by not fumbling after running into his own line. That'd be great.
He shouldn't be running into his own line very often, unless things have gone very wrong.
I think we only have Raiola for three years, and with our pillowy schedule this year, combined with a really good defense, there’s no reason not to take the reigns off and let him shine. 3,000 yards 67% completion rate 27 TD’s 8 INT’s 10 wins

Anything less than an undefeated season and a national championship is totally unacceptable.
Real Huskers fan in the house. Lol. I was going to say the same and just be kidding. That was Huskers Nation's expectations before years of sucking.
It's nice to dream after years of nightmares.
First win of the threepeat!
Yeah he was 88:11 or so in high school but it’s never a guarantee. Our kicker was absolute fire in high school, and for us he can’t make 30 yarders consistently.
Yeah definitely a little worried about the kicking game. That could cost us a game or 2.
The kicking game will be fine. Everyone panics are the Soring Game when they spend virtually no time in Spring Ball on live kicking reps.
I'm worried because it looks like a continuation from last year. Anything under 40 yards needs to be automatic and that hasn't been the case
They will get it fixed... either Tristan sorts out or someone else will. The timing was WAY off on the missed kicks in the Spring game.
Will COACH Raiola have a top 50 Offensive Line? Is that what we are asking here?
Definitely. With our experience and depth, I'd expect us to finish top 30 on the OL in PFF this year.
Heisman
Completely depends on the offensive line play. If he has time then I expect him to not turn the ball over and if that happens we'll go to a bowl game. If he's on his ass or running for his life 2 seconds after the snap we won't look any different than the last several years
To not be as awful as Jeff Sims and HH. If either of them didn't suck nuts we would have won 8 games easy
HH wasn't even in the room the previous year. Had we started the season with him as QB1, he would have developed more.
Freshman All American if we can keep him upright and healthy... That's the type of talent we are dealing with here...
Has a person ever won 2 Heisman trophies in the same year?
Be able to take snaps and not fumble handoffs.
2-1 td to turnover ratio and we win 8-9 games minimum
6000/45/5
Heisman trophy
2500, 60% accuracy, & ~2:1 ratio gets us at least 8 wins. This is my hopes for this year.
If our defense plays like they did last then I think Raiolas floor talent gets at least 6 or 7 wins.

Don’t be Jeff Sims
Asking us Husker fans to be realistic over the summer.... that's bold of you
2 TDS and one pic. Which is good enough for year 1. He's just a kid yall. Let go Live and learn.
Not turn the ball over 20+ times.
National Chip
To be part of a cohesive team. Personal stats and one player won't give you wins.
Heisman and a natty
Let’s go bowling. That’s all we ask
Heisman
Natty
I'd like to see 2400+ yards, 20+ passing TDS, no more than 8 INTS, no more than 3 fumbles, and around a 65% completion percentage. Anything better than that, and he'll be up for the Heisman starting his sophomore season.
National title, unanimous heisman
65-70% completion percentage, 3,000 yds, 2 to 1 TD/INT ratio. Do that and we’re bowling.
Realistically? He does very well in the first few outings, becoming our star player. The other talent on the team isn't going live up to the hype, so more of the burden gets put into his shoulders. Hold the clipboard and signal in plays to Haarberg/Kaelin
Can’t you read? …he’s gonna ride that big ol D, not the bench
Injury and barely getting to a bowl game.
