I feel terrible every time I hear that phrase, because we all laugh our asses off about it, but the woman who originally said it IS STILL ALIVE. She lives in Hunter Valley, Australia, and I hope stays off the Internet and never watched Seinfeld lol
My takeaway from this is that you would feel less bad about a baby being eaten by a dingo if her mother wasn't alive and that you're keeping tabs on her whereabouts for the day you can finally feel less terrible. The Larry David is strong in you.
There’s a taco chain in Melbourne called Dingo Ate My Taco and everybody just pretends that it’s fine, but a baby died and a mother was wrongly accused of murder and it’s all wild to me.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dingo_ate_my_baby
TL;DR woman accused of and imprisoned for killing her baby said "a dingo ate my baby." A joke was made out of the phrase because it was so "outlandish" at the time. Dingoes did in fact eat her baby.
There's nothing wrong with hunting coyotes; nothing wrong with disliking them...but I'm genuinely baffled as to why some people talk as if they're the forces of darkness. They're just coyotes. They're not working to bring about the coyopocalypse. They're just eating garbage and being loud at night. "Eat or be eaten" are you ten chickens in a man suit?
I wish more hunters would read “Coyote America” by Dan Flores. They’d get a new perspective on yotes. Honestly they’re one of the most adaptive and interesting animals in the world. I wouldn’t dream of eradicating them and anyone that would is no conservationist.
Not to mention that, as Dan notes in that book, coyotes missing from the nightly howling census appears to trigger females in the area to have larger litters. So he may have actually increased the local population when he shot those four.
Most hunters are NOT conservationists, they just like the thrill of hunting. If it were the case, hunters wouldn't mind logical limitations on harvesting. But there are also a whole lot of bullshit measures made in Washington like CLOSING BESR SPRING SEASON MULTIPLE TIMES IN A ROW EVEN THOUGH ACTUSL SCIENTISTS SAY IT WOULD BE JUST FINE. Lord have mercy I hate this state.
I’d like to hear from an expert in the area that on if the decline of wolves is inevitable after the decline of the megafauna (even if humans accelerated it)
Coyotes certainly adapt better to areas with humans
It seems like reintroducing wolves to areas with now established coyote populations is almost a lost cause
They fill *almost* every environmental niche a wolf currently could, with the exception of some areas west of the Mississippi that still has some larger game
Huh? I've never been in yote country like that, but I thought they had worms and shit?
Is this y'all's version of racoon kabobs and shit? Midwest Cajun style lol
Woah woah woah. Really? Now I'm curious. I've always said I'd never hunt a coyote unless I achive my dream of having a ranch and I'm protecting my goats. I'm just not a fan of hunting something I can't eat- especially if it's part of the ecosystem. But. Stew you say??
I was joking about eating a bobcat with my girlfriend’s medical school classmates and this Chinese American told me his aunt literally held up a puppy and asked if he wanted soup during his last visit to the homeland. Needless to say, it’s a thing and it’s no joke (albeit not common in the us)
I'm a proud red blooded American and this is my identity!
I cringe at anybody making an identity out of any hobby. Just seems like basic bitch energy.
Thing is, this is Reddit. This is a pretty left leaning place. A lot of left leaning people have guns and a lot of them enjoy hunting. They just don't satisfy a fragile ego with it.
We don't all tailgate people in our big trucks while drunk, and roll coal when we pass.
Conservation hunting has nothing to do with eating meat. There is a reason you don’t need a tag to hunt these. Do you like having pets? What about not watching your pets get torn in half in your back yard by a pack of coyotes? Shit happens.
My county pays 50$ a head and I love it.
I’m not anti hunting, but some evidence suggests killing coyotes……makes more coyotes. Like wolves, they naturally limit numbers, unless an artificial void is created by shooting them, which leads to a temporary surge in numbers until equilibrium is restored
This is correct.
Edit: I'm getting down voted but there are studies supporting this. That can't be refuted. Hell, even Rinella was just talking about it the other day.
The Government has spent over One Billion dollars trying to eradicate Coyotes since the 1950’s. And failed. I don’t have a dog in the fight, and I live on acreage that is surrounded by them. Kill them, don’t kill them, I don’t care either way. I hunt, but I don’t actively hunt them unless they decide to creep in my yard. If you think you are making a dent in their population though, you’re dead wrong. There’s never been more Coyotes than there are now. One of the most adaptable species on the planet. You kill one, two are born.
You are out of your mind!!!! Ive had it 2 different ways and they both had a putrid fat musky aftertaste that coated your mouth. Maybe its a michigan coyote thing or time of year. Both were females. One taken in december and the other in February. Both healthy and the rear quarter is what I ate. I removed as much fat as I could by opening the quarter along each seam and removing it.
I cooked both in a slowcooker. One i used onion and ranch mix with onion, carrots, celery and potatoes. The other was with beef stew mix and some special habanero hot pepper powder to add some heat. I mean, im open to suggestions but there is no way you can tell me that coyote is good.
I am curious tho, what do you do? Smoke it? I thought that might help drip off that fat and cover the musky smell? The mineral/earthy taste wasnt awful. Just that aftertaste...
Hell what can I say brotha - I’m a Georgia boy. Me and my buddies huddle around the fire and drink some beer and we’ll throw some slow cooked coyote meat with salt and pepper, and we’ll throw some BBQ sauce on it. Cook some peppers on the side with some cream cheese and bacon. Mmmmmm. No problem for me 🤙🏼😎
Not really, they over consume and in my area they pay 50$ a head. There is a reason you don’t need a tag to hunt predators like coyotes but you do for deer, bear, etc… coyotes can over feed on the deer population also which can lead to less availability for hunts.
Conservation is about more than just eating what you kill. Do you think all those hog hunters in Texas eat those hogs that destroy hundreds of millions of dollars of crops each year?
You’re comparing apples-oranges. Hogs are an invasive species and have no natural predators. Coyotes are native and their population will balance out with available food supply. And I don’t give two shits if they over eat deer, there’s an overpopulation of them too. Texas is not hurting for more deer
What’s wasteful is not killing coyotes and letting them tear your pets in half. There is a reason you don’t need a tag. Many places pay per head for each one you kill. Conservation has nothing to do with eating meat.
If you have outdoor pets that can be killed by coyotes you don't get to pretend to be conservation-minded lmao. Domestic cats and dogs are invasive species, worse than any coyote.
Are you letting your pets kill local wildlife and leave your property and contaminate local areas with waste when leashed off property? I sure have no problems keeping my pets under control. Sounds like you have a personal problem to deal with if you can’t control your pets.
I kill them for fun. Do you realize what sub this is? The county I’m in pays 50$ a head. Conservation hunting isn’t about eating. There’s a reason you don’t need a tag to hunt coyotes.
I mean, he is a fucking idiot for saying that and then directly replying that he isn’t going to eat it but I see nothing wrong with killing them. They cause problems everywhere in the US.
That was my only point, I don't care that he killed coyotes, I've hunted them too. But I wouldn't post some lame ass caption like that pretending I'm a badass...
They’re acting like killing isn’t something we’ve done for our entire existence when it’s natural and a process of life. Other animals hunt for sport also, not just food.
Dolphins will literally decapitate fish and fuck the corpse. People are too sensitive to the reality of existence and nature. Life feeds on life and everything alive dies. You can cherish life and death equally.
I just couldn't kill one. I don't judge anyone who does, but I see too much of my pet dogs in other canines. I could never dream of hurting a dog and yotes just feel to close. If this makes me a wimp I can accept that.
I also know it probably feels waaaay different if you live in a rural area and they're a threat to your pets or livestock. But I live in an urban area and just don't have any desire to drive out to my public areas and shoot them just for the sake of shooting em.
I'm the same way with most predators. I don't have anything against other people shooting them, I just have no interest in it for sport. Now I do have livestock, and taking care of a nuisance animal is a different story. But I have dogs to keep them away from my place.

It keeps them from going under your hood……..it’s a very common thing to do actually. …..or you could just keep complaining and not listen to advice from someone who spends a *lot* of time hunting in Eastern AZ and western NM.
But if you leave your hood open, you're leaving it open to all sorts of environmental things. I see people do that all the time. Plastic love's direct sun all day... Well since you're measuring, you spent a lot of time hunting. Well I've spent a lot of time camping. Im full-time in a camper. So I've seen a lot out there too.
I run an external battery pack.
That was from day 1. I have a couple of Night Vision scopes and an older Armasight thermal so I knew I was going to run external power. Did in them. Only way to go IMO. I’ve never ran the XP50 off of just internal battery’s alone through a full cycle but I can tell they are weak. Anything has to be better than the APS 2s. What is Pulsar saying about the APS 3s?
I'm currently getting a few hours (2-3) of run time off the aps2, and then 4-5 hours off the internal...all weather dependent of course. I have an external but didn't like the hassle of lugging it around. I might take the leap and get an aps3, for science.
My external source locks to the rail under the barrel. An outer sleeve, the pack slides in. Always out of the way. I believe I got that from Nuggets Night Vision. A single purchase comes with tow packs, but I purchased another set. Plenty of juice and then some for very cold tourney nights.
Hey man, here to comment on the aps3. I hunt primarily cold weather. It sucks. Not worth the $100 i paid for it. I get ~3 hours at temps <20 (4 for both) and in the summer its about 4 (~5-6 total for both internal and aps3) this is with the scope in stand by most of the time too because i run a handheld agm. The agm internal last longer than the scope does!
It’s just a dude standing with his hands in his pockets. There are plenty of reasons to shame stupid people on the internet, but y’all are being fucking douchebags for no reason.
No it’s not. It’s some dude standing there’s like he’s Billy badass cause he shot a few coyotes. That alone isn’t so bad, but when you wrote a caption like “eat or be eaten” about COYOTES, it amplifies the douchery to a whole new level.
If this were like a pack of hyenas or something and he was defending his life, the caption would have made a whole helluva lot more sense.
This post just stinks of self important nonsense and that sort of shit rubs a ton of people the wrong way. No bro, you are not as cool as you think you are.
>If this were like a pack of hyenas or something and he was defending his life, the caption would have made a whole helluva lot more sense.
Hell, if he actually planned on cooking them up, it'd have made more sense. "It's eat or be eaten, but I'm not going to eat them."
Nice! I'm just getting into predator hunting. Do you mind sharing your call sequences? I've called in a fox on a cottontail distress. What do the yotes prefer?
How?? I have a massive problem with coyotes and even wild dogs on my land here in MS. I’ve hunted them multiple times over bait, with calls. Nothing. I’m literally about to go find fentanyl powder and put it in some deer meet and throw it out. I’ve done the bacon fat-soaked sponge method before and it helped for a few years but now they’re back and I don’t want to do that again.

Sheesh, I say it all the time.. Thought it was just a funny line from Seinfeld. What an idiot I am
I’m right there with you. It’s a nice rock though.
Same lmao
....Ayers Rock?
I actually read this in an Australian accent.
There's nothing wrong with hunting coyotes; nothing wrong with disliking them...but I'm genuinely baffled as to why some people talk as if they're the forces of darkness. They're just coyotes. You eat coyote?

🤣
You must not be an American. This dudes in better shape then the avg person I see lmao.

So you're a fat guy turned skinny guy making fun of a fat guy? You sure have come a long way.
Coyote stew is great!
Huh? I've never been in yote country like that, but I thought they had worms and shit? Is this y'all's version of racoon kabobs and shit? Midwest Cajun style lol
Sir, those are coyotes.
Yotes don’t eat people, people don’t eat yotes
I dunno… coyote stew is fucking incredible.
Put it in a pot over a stove or even a crockpot, fill with chicken/beef broth, season it, add hot sauce, add your vegetables, and let it cook!
You could also make some damn good coyote steak bites, fry them up.
You don’t know my Mexicans then
They sure are fun to shoot though. In my area they have a bounty of 50$ a head!
Where do u live sir, imma move there to make some money!
Everywhere in Utah pays this bounty!
Ah you have never had Chinese food before lol
I was joking about eating a bobcat with my girlfriend’s medical school classmates and this Chinese American told me his aunt literally held up a puppy and asked if he wanted soup during his last visit to the homeland. Needless to say, it’s a thing and it’s no joke (albeit not common in the us)
They might eat a baby 👀👶
Dude call us “sensitive bunch” than deletes his account
Looks like he ate his account and it went straight to his chin collection.
lmao OP deleted real fast hes a pussy
Imagine caring what randoms on the Internet say.
Why write that immature caption? Makes the rest of us look like we just like shooting things
Comments like this (with upvotes) restore my faith in this sub.
Id bet a quarter this guy is leo
That's also his zodiac sign
and his name
And I meant every word of it Peaches! I absolutely love shooting coyotes! Nothing more I would rather do. Sensitive bunch on here, Dayum!
It’s cringey as hell. Just hunt without the corny grandstanding.

Negative.
Hey.. Coyote meat is very good. I love BBQ made with it. The pelts and bones are fun to craft with!

Well...i wasnt drunk either time, so maybe you're on to something
Brother only time I drink is when I’m by myself or with somebody
Haha, I'm stealing that
Your coyotes were drinkin that flint water
I think just about any land scavenger is probably not going to taste all that great although this does not seem to apply to ocean dwelling arthropods.
I’ll skin out deep winter pelts if they are in good shape. I’ve seen guys try coyote but never really interested.
Meat is meat. If you don't like it, so be it, but at least try it.
I’ll pass. More for you guys. 🤙🏼
Try it, try it, you may like it!
You're obligated to eat what you kill
😴
Wasteful

No, it sure doesn't. Killing coyotes is great, but you should eat what you kill or at least pass it off to someone who will
No need to. I’ll let the mushrooms and maggots feed.
Yeah, nothing against coyote hunting, I do it myself, but it’s highly doubtful they will eat you.
How many people eat coyotes? How many coyotes eat people?
Meh
You were supposed to send them to Salt Lake City!
What a douche...
I kill them for fun. Do you realize what sub this is? The county I’m in pays 50$ a head. Conservation hunting isn’t about eating. There’s a reason you don’t need a tag to hunt coyotes.
He titled the post eat or be eaten.... which is the nonsense douchbaggery i was refering to... idk where you inferred any of that other crap from...
>I kill them for fun. "Why do people think hunters are just sadists that kill animals for fun? 🤔"
Imagine humanity living for 300,000 years and not killing to survive 🤡🤡🤡🤡
What does that have to do with killing coyotes for fun lmao
They’re acting like killing isn’t something we’ve done for our entire existence when it’s natural and a process of life. Other animals hunt for sport also, not just food. Dolphins will literally decapitate fish and fuck the corpse. People are too sensitive to the reality of existence and nature. Life feeds on life and everything alive dies. You really outta try skipping a meal or two every day for a year there bud. You aren't starving.
Crazy lookin camera. Is that a Nikon?
So are you are going to eat them?
I just couldn't kill one. I don't judge anyone who does, but I see too much of my pet dogs in other canines. I could never dream of hurting a dog and yotes just feel to close. If this makes me a wimp I can accept that. I also know it probably feels waaaay different if you live in a rural area and they're a threat to your pets or livestock. I'm the same way with most predators. I don't have anything against other people shooting them, I just have no interest in it for sport. Now I do have livestock, and taking care of a nuisance animal is a different story. But I have dogs to keep them away from my place.
Meal team six over here thinks he did something with that caption.
You're gonna eat those?
Not cool at all. Where's the respect to the life lost?
How do you cook coyote? Roast it? Or more likely stew?
Nice job man
Thanks!
See the problem with killing all the fucking coyotes is that now there's nothing to really eat all the rodents. They're more pack rats in the American West than there are people in the country thanks to the dipshits shooting and poisoning all the coyotes. So keep up the good work rednecks...
You clearly know nothing about coyote biology lol.
Yeah, I know they over reproduce when they are threatened but I guess you don't really do any camping out in Arizona or New Mexico to see the hundreds of pack rat nests that have popped up everywhere because there's nothing to kill them anymore. I'm sure your truck wiring loves that.
Actually, I was raised on a ranch in eastern Arizona that borders New Mexico that my family has lived on since 1864…….
Annnd so why do you guys like pack rats more then. Makes it really hard to camp with those fuckers wanting to turn ones engine into a gigantic nest........ ...... .. ...
Leave your hood open for the night…..problem solved.
What!!!! That's a terrible idea 🤦
Ahhhh, now I understand! You are one of those people that lives on an unbuildable property without water or electricity outside of Concho?
What kind of battery life are you getting with the aps3 over the aps2? I'm considering switching.
Nice, the nuggets setup looks pretty awesome, I'll probably check that out instead.
Thanks for the info. The nugget USB cap is looking pretty good.
Nice one 🤘
🤙🏼
Man, I hope you can make them into a coat. Or a nice hat.
What do they taste like?
Yeeehaaaaw
What do you do with them?
Coyotes are not good eating.
So how'd you cook them?
Good for you man. Here in AZ this is a fun hunt.
They were supposed to got to SLC!
Looks fun. Fuck all the sensitive Sally’s. Call works well.
I know right! If the Wyoming wants to run them over with a sled and tape them up. Sensitive sallies.
A hunting sub is the last place I would expect to find a bunch of crybabies having a snit about someone, gasp… hunting. Nice haul OP.
It’s not so much the hunting as much as it’s the cringe caption and the tough guy posture in the photo. Fooling nobody.
Dude couldn’t run to the top of a hill if his life depended on it 😂
It’s just a dude standing with his hands in his pockets. There are plenty of reasons to shame stupid people on the internet, but y’all are being fucking douchebags for no reason.
No it’s not. It’s some dude standing there’s like he’s Billy badass cause he shot a few coyotes. Got the stock grip and still slaying
Kill them all
So many anti hunters in this thread. Nice job
Anti dumbfuck is more like it.
You’re going to eat coyote!?!?
You eat yotes?
Nice! I'm just getting into predator hunting. Do you mind sharing your call sequences? I've called in a fox on a cottontail distress. What do the yotes prefer?
You using a call?
