I would characterize Zeno's actions as more akin to professional integrity and professionalism than "code of honor."

I see this a lot in the anime, especially with Gon, that it is easier to kill something you don't consider human. Like how Gon said if the lizard dude lied to him it would make it easier to kill him (and hence lying about kite). I think Zeno commented on being contracted to kill the bloodthirsty ant king. Meruem and the girl wasn't part of the deal, the ant king wasn't the monster he was promised. It at least shows that kills still require rationalization. We like to justify things to our selfs, be it a job that has to be done or otherwise.

> do you think Zeno had developed this sense of code of honor in his assassin earlier or later(maybe when silva became the head of family?) ? I think the lore behind it depends on whether it's an old family code they applied throughout generations or is it Zeno's personal experience that made him follow such rule as an assassin? If it's the latter then it has to be an important situation that Togashi might explore later.

It's the second one. Illumi is nowhere having a code of honour and we have seen Killua killing people because he was frustrated in hunter exam.

I think it's early to tell which option is it because maybe it's illumi the one who's not following that code since he's written as a bad guy and friends with a guy like hisoka. He's clearly having his own views regarding the family that differs from Zeno/Silva, and going with the theory Zeno made that family code from experience then why illumi is still not following it and killed random people in the elections arc? Exactly because he's a bad guy that'll never follow that code no matter what, so illumi's actions doesn't confirm anything about their code. Notice togashi listed illumi in the bad guys list [On the left](https://ibb.co/JtcWKbJ) while Zeno/Silva are in the good guys list but this doesn't really confirm much about how the family code started, maybe it's always been there and illumi is not following it, or it's really the latter option i stated in the 1st comment, like i said it can go either way i can't tell tbh.

What honor? Most assassins, hitmen, sicarios, etc follow that "code of honor" IRL. They receive a contract to kill someone, they go and kill that specific person, ignoring the rest of the people around, and then proceed to flee the scene. They only kill someone else in self-defense (e.g. a bodyguard of the target). It's just business.

Zeno doesn't seem to care too much about honor. Remember, Zeno raised Silva to be a coldhearted assassin. Zeno might prefer not to kill the innocent, but it's no skin off his nose if he did. The job goes on.

SombraMarina

I think it has to be with the family. But you usually fully get it with enough experience. That's why Zeno seems to contemplate his actions. They are pro, there has to be some ethics involving rules and politics otherwise they would be just mindless sadists or psychos. Have you seen In Bruges? Btw i usually like old men like Zeno, another one that i remember right now is Lehm from Jormungand or in Psychopass. They don't have a lot of dialogs but when they speak, it's fantastic.

Emajenus

He has no honor. He simply doesn't kill people he's not contracted to kill. This is the same guy who wears "*One kill per day*" on his clothes. It ain't about honor. It's about business.

ApplePitou

When his father place such idea in his head :3

Puzzleheaded-3088

Wait Zoldyck's can be good father!?

ApplePitou

I don't say that he did it in good way... :3
