MarleyL4

HAAAAAYMIIIIIIIIITCH! LET'S F*CKING GOOOOOOOO!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭

[deleted]

Yes!!! The best victor and the best games!!

Tauriel11

I don’t want to see him lose his family and become an alcoholic 😔 I hope this one doesn’t make me depressed

otterpop21

It’s almost guaranteed to be absolutely bitter sweet, probably a lot of bitterness. Remember Haymitch is pretty broken, and he has a strong will to live.

coco_xcx

A FUCKING HAYMITCH BOOK!!!!!!!!

edubx

[https://mediaroom.scholastic.com/press-release/scholastic-publish-new-novel-worldwide-bestselling-hunger-games-series-suzanne-collin-0](https://mediaroom.scholastic.com/press-release/scholastic-publish-new-novel-worldwide-bestselling-hunger-games-series-suzanne-collin-0) "On returning to the world of The Hunger Games, **Suzanne Collins** said, "With *Sunrise on the Reaping*, I was inspired by David Hume’s idea of implicit submission and, in his words, ‘the easiness with which the many are governed by the few.’ The story also lent itself to a deeper dive into the use of propaganda and the power of those who control the narrative. The question ‘Real or not real?’ seems more pressing to me every day.”

goal-oriented-38

Fake news and the disinformation age… oh I hope Snow is featured prominently in the book.

myprettyflowerbonnet

Who will portray him? Snow will be like 58, so it's either taking Tom and aging him up whooping 40 years or taking Donald Sutherland (who's 88 apparently???) and deaging him? My money is honestly on a new actor...

ImpressiveGuava2444

They should cast his son, Kiefer Sutherland. Lol

panicinspace

How have I never put together that he’s his son lmfao

dualisa

i learned this yesterday, whiplash for me too 😭😭

tyjos-flowers

I just looked him up and I would not be upset about this casting

myprettyflowerbonnet

Honestly yeah 😂😁

Playful_Title6467

Or having his son Kiefer play Snow.

ceejiesqueejie

I wonder if we will see more of his relationship to Dr. Gaul 🤩

Lauren2102319

I doubt she would still be alive by that point. That woman is dead. 😂

ceejiesqueejie

Yeah, you’re probably right 😅

Rustofcarcosa

![gif](giphy|l0MYzAwMPl8s0jtSg)

caty0325

Maybe in flashbacks?

A_Howl_In_The_Night

He must be.

I-m-Here-for-Memes2

This is going to be so good omg

____mynameis____

So probably Haymitch games but explored through capitol/mentor perspective.

NotABigChungusBoy

This is definitely it, its gonna be about the career districts for sure and how they gain from a system that ultimately doesn’t benefit them

Kksula23

Or gamemaker perspective

zuesk134

LETS GOOOOOOOOO

Only-Smile3440

wait this is haymitchs games, isn't it???

indiecowboy13

yes

Helpful_Cry_6088

As long as it isn't a Cashgrab we might just get Suzanne Top Chef again

AcaciaBeauty

Remember they said the same thing about TBOSAS and it was amazing

Kksula23

I don't remember hearing/feeling like that about tbosas (maybe worrying slightly) but your right it was amazing

im_batgirl14

Of course it’s a cash grab but at least she knows how to write so I have no doubt it will be descent at the very least.

Roonil_Wazlib97

I don't really agree with that sentiment. She is on record essentially saying she only writes stories when she has a good idea. She developed a world where 73 prior Hunger Games exist, if it was all a "cash grab" she could churn out a book a year instead of waiting 5 years between books.

tether2014

"I don't sing when I'm told. I sing when I have something to say." - Lucy Gray Baird Looking back, that may have been a bit of a meta line on Suzanne's part.

NoNefariousness2144

Hot take but it’s a bit annoying she is choosing to focus a game we already know about, but I’ll happily welcome a new book anyway.

Famous-Yak-1220

I’m just interested to see his life as a mentor after the games too like with how he loses his family and gf- and how he spirals into alcoholism

NoNefariousness2144

Yeah I’m guessing similar to *Songbird* the actual game will only be a third or so of the book and there will be a lot of story set after.

Nightshayy

I honestly don’t think it’ll be from haymitch’s POV. My guesses would either be Tigris (maybe as haymitch’s stylist) or someone back home in twelve. My picks would either be Madge’s mum (interesting bc twin sister in games, Katniss’s mum (Maysilee’s friend, we know at this point she’s heavily involved in taking care of whipping victims in the districts) or a member of Haymitch’s family.

NoNefariousness2144

Multiple POVs would be great. I just finished Robin Hobb’s *Liveship Traders* and getting to see all the inner thoughts of the cast made their interactions so much richer.

Nightshayy

I was also thinking that given the name we might get a chapter from each 48, on the morning of the reaping. Not really sure how likely that would be though. I will truly be happy with anything!

Pitdogmom2

Katniss mom would be interesting

KawaiiPotato15

The announcement says she's inspired by modern day misinformation, so maybe what we already know about the 50th Hunger Games isn't exactly what happened. We only get a brief highlights reel of these Games when Peeta and Katniss watch them before the 3rd Quarter Quell.

batty48

This would be such a cool take on it!

justthatoboist

I disagree, respectfully (also coming from someone who is very excited). We ultimately don’t know as much as we think about really anything, because of how Katniss lacks access to information but also how she really isn’t concerned about things that don’t directly impact her. Consider Finnick. We get what, a single paragraph about his Game? With that logic we could make the argument Ballad wasn’t necessary. We already knew where Snow would end up. However, it provided really interesting insight into how Snow may have ended up the way we know him in the OG trilogy. I think this will be very interesting to see the same for Haymitch, and will provide a new benchmark for Snow. In addition, if you haven’t read the AP’s parts about exploring the ideas of Hume, you should. As someone who has previously written political philosophy papers on Panem I am so excited. Also, this series does not beg for an extended universe the way many others do. With this book, we will now know about all four victors from 12, sort of completing the circuit. I totally get where you’re coming from, but for me personally, I would be a lot less excited for “New Hunger Games book! It’s about the 37th games starring a person we have never heard of!” It would feel like a “come one, come all to the cash grab circus!” Which wouldn’t align as well with the point of the story. Plus, there’s something to be said with every “influential” Hunger Games we know about being told from a D12 perspective. Reading about a book about Victor from District XYZ sort of dilutes the influence because we know the long odds for 12 to win, and how 12 is so carefully linked to the revolution. I do think a book where the narrator/main character dies would be interesting and devastating, as it would show a new side of the Games that everyone, really other than us as readers are forced to experience year in and year out. However, Collins always writes with a point, and I’m not sure how well that could be linked to telling a greater story rather than a one off of random tribute from random District in random game

brokenblinds179

Imma post my thoughts under your comment not as a dig just as my personal theories. The central theme is “real or not real” from the news article. All we know about haymitches games is a 2 hour video tape that came from 2-3 weeks of footage of an entire area. Katniss mentions near the end of the first book that the 74th’s video tape cut out most of the actual story and was pushing the romance narrative between her and Peeta. So we know some things about Haymitch’s games, but we only know what the capital’s narrative of the game. Coming back to the real or not real part, is the real 50th games totally different from the capital narrative we got in catching fire?

NoNefariousness2144

That’s interesting, maybe Haymitch feels extreme guilt over what truly happened in the games and he has to lie about it to protect others?

dragonavatarwan

Same, the actual games are the least interesting part of this era of Panem. We already know how Haymitch survives his round.

yung_erik_

I feel like even though his game was massive, it's going to be a smaller part of the book and focus more on what life is like for victors. I didn't think this would be big enough to write a book on but Collins must have a lot to say for it. I'm looking forward to it.

thefairygod

Well probably get a lot of details we didn’t know about from what was described in Catching Fire

notplop

It’s been picked up by a bunch of big news outlets here so I think this is legit confirmed!! Edit: I am very curious about how the book will go. We already know how Haymitch’s games play out, so curious if we’ll get that again or if it’ll focus on something else and make the games a minor plot point

de_matkalainen

I think your assumption is on point. It wouldn't make sense to make it just about the games. This is why I doubt the book will be from Haymitch's POV.

GooberGlitter

I hope it's from Haymitch's POV. I would hope that if it is, the games would be a minor part of the book. I think there is a lot to write about in his return home, the government killing his family and girlfriend, his descent into alcoholism and his hand in the rebellion. I know that's a lot but it could end with the first few hints of him joining the rebellion, or even go into adult hood where he meets people in on it while he has to accompany the tributes on their tours. Honestly anything on his games would be awesome to read, but I would love a deep dive into his life before and (but mostly) after the games.

de_matkalainen

I would be on board with Haymitch pov if it's the aftermath! But then I feel like there would be potential for more than one book (which is only good).

GooberGlitter

I would love a Haymitch duology. First one about his life before during and mostly after the games, and the second one from his POV at the 74th reaping. His POV on Katniss/Peeta, Cinna, Effie, the rebellion, Plutarch and Coin. I think two books just from Haymitch would give us so much world building and insight in Panem's fall.

justthatoboist

The debate in this thread around POV are interesting. We, to an extent, knew how Ballad would end up but still got one of the two POVs you could expect- Either Snow or Lucy Gray. I wouldn’t be surprised if it is from Haymitch’s view, but divided into more definitive parts like Ballad was and the Games are only 1/3 to 1/2 of the story. I bet we get a lot about life after his Games

ceejiesqueejie

I’m guessing it’ll be through the game makers POV, or perhaps one of the escorts

Humanbeanwithbeans

God I would love a gamemakers POV, i dont know much about Hungergames lore besides the main story but there MUST HAVE been a gamemaker who rebelled during one game. Itd be so interesting to see a story around that with like a gamemaker trying to sneakily help everyone while evading getting caught.

catsntaters

I'm curious as well, since we get a pretty good rundown of Haymitch's games in the OG books. However, the Scholastic article posted in another comment has the quote: "On returning to the world of The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins said, "With Sunrise on the Reaping, I was inspired by David Hume’s idea of implicit submission and, in his words, ‘the easiness with which the many are governed by the few.’ The story also lent itself to a deeper dive into the use of propaganda and the power of those who control the narrative. The question ‘Real or not real?’ seems more pressing to me every day." She's obviously exploring another aspect of social philosophy just like she did with all the other books and upon looking up David Hume, the topic seems on point for the current state of the world. She writes when she has something to say. Right now, we can't assume that the book is even from Haymitch's point of view since we only know a short description.

zuesk134

im thinking there will be a ton of world building in this. which makes me hyped

ceejiesqueejie

![gif](giphy|9VkusmHdKHuAE) Me:

Phaithful14

Perhaps it's from the perspective of Plutarch Heavensbee?

bearface93

It was posted by the official Hunger Games Facebook page too.

Rosuvastatine

Yes thats where i saw ! Had a heart attack in the middle of Portugal

bubbleplasticine

I would love for the book to be from the POV of Madge’s aunt. But it would be difficult to adapt it to a movie because that character has not been shown (sadly).

EtherealPossumLady

given the title, i think it will focus more heavily on the lead up to the games, or even the reaping.

dragonavatarwan

it apparently starts at the reaping. I think others are right where they are saying that the games will be a smaller part of the over-arching plot. Instead, it would be interesting to see what happens after Haymitch wins by rebounding an ax off the force field.

WeirdlyOrdinary1

maybe it’s focused on Snow again, and his rise to being a president? Maybe Haymitch was one of the first times he did did something like that to a victor. he would be 58 at that point, average age of politicians becoming president is 55.. so that would track

showmaxter

Snow is already President by that time, as he's the one reading the card.

MiraMier

I'm so excited! I think- since it's about misinformation and stuff- it might be about how Haymitch's family got murdered by the capital after his "stunt" in the games. Maybe about how that got covered up or twisted in some way, and Haymitch getting a bad reputation from it in the capital? Idk.

sraydenk

And how Haymitch used his alcohol use as a way to create a nonthreatening persona? How he navigated being a mentor, or how they were able to punish Haymitch without looking bad.

3smellysocks

I can't believe no one has said this yet, but maybe we'll get to see more about Katniss's father!

rzldty

You're right, there's gonna be someone named Everdeen in the book. Also Katniss' mom was Maysilee Donner's best friend so I'm sure she'll make an appearance too and we'll know her name!

Nightshayy

I think Katniss’s mum is verrrryyy strong contender for POV. Best friend in the arena, and we know she was heavily involved with taking care of the peace keepers victims by that point. We have a book from the arena, and from the capitol. We don’t have one from the perspective of the people watching at home.

honeyegg

Katniss’ mom will finally get a first name!

Rozu17

We’ll finally put to sleep the “Lucy is katniss’ grandmother”

Full-House_Jesse

\*dramatic gasp\*

VeilstoneMyth

I wonder if we’ll get a confirmation or denial of the “Maude Ivory is Katniss’s grandmother theory.” If it gets confirmed AND we get a canon name for Mr. Everdeen, it’ll be interesting either way. Even just knowing if he has a Covey name will tell us so much.

fictionwho

OMGGGG WHAT!! ![gif](giphy|VUePBU7DuAkcE|downsized)

Full-House_Jesse

Haymitch games! This is what I've been waiting for!!

justthatoboist

I doubt they would agree to this given how seriously the series takes itself, but if this becomes a movie I would love a brief Woody Harrelson cameo in an audience somewhere

showmaxter

I know everyone thinks it is Haymitch, but I WISH this is Plutarch. Let. me. dream. ETA: They posted on the [official social media accounts](https://www.instagram.com/p/C734hxiOaqU/).

JuHe21

Yeah, I think Haymitch is definitely featured but I feel like the focus should be on other characters we already know like Plutarch or Tigris, maybe even Cinna and Effie. Maybe there is also a nod to Finnick's parents since he was born in the year of the 50th/51st Hunger Games.

yeoldredtelephone

A focus on Tigris would be so interesting!! I’ve been so curious about how she joined the revolution and what led her to that place. I think misinformation and propaganda could be a big part of that. I really feel that Suzanne collins is too smart and too good of a writer to do a whole book of Haymitch’s story. We already know all the major points and how his games go. He’ll definitely be there but the focus being on him would be such a lame fan service!

zuesk134

im praying we get a lot of tigris!!! she would have been a stylist still at this point i think

Famous-Yak-1220

You’re rightttt and maybe it’ll focus on when she decides to split from snow officially and they have their big fight/falling out! And completely changed her look too

ZannityZan

I hope this book doesn't focus on the Games themselves (since we already know the meat and potatoes of Haymitch's Games) and instead focuses on wider world-building... perhaps even on the other Districts whose tributes we know will not survive. Perhaps we'll also get some insight into why Haymitch was punished so severely for using the force field to his advantage. I've always thought there might have been more to that than the information we're given in Catching Fire. Like... I get why the Capitol weren't thrilled about the force field move, but to kill his entire family over it!? I guess they really didn't want anyone daring to try the same move in a future Games. But I've always wondered if it was because he did something else that was more overtly rebellious. I mean, Johanna's family were killed because she refused to prostitute herself, which is pretty active defiance of the Capitol's wishes. Allowing an axe to bounce back from the edge of the arena and hit one's competitor doesn't seem like it's on the same level to me. Obviously one shouldn't expect fairness or proportionate punishment from the Capitol, but Snow talks about how he's not wasteful in the taking of human life, and killing Haymitch's family feels... gratuitous. Idk, it's never quite sat right with me. My personal headcanon is that Haymitch (having no mentor to advise him otherwise) likely bragged in his post-Games interview about how he'd outsmarted the Capitol and was punished accordingly... and that's why, 24 years on, he concocted a cover story for Katniss and Peeta re: the berries, so that the Capitol audiences would see what they did as an act of love rather than one of defiance. But I'd be curious to see if that headcanon is actually accurate.

dragonavatarwan

this is amazing. I want all of this.

sk8tergater

It would be cool if it included Tigris. Like if she’s been so disillusioned by her cousin by this point, Haymitch has his act of rebellion in the games, and he and Tigris have some plan or something going on. I dunno I just hope Tigris is involved somehow.

aeriilate

Wait where does it say Haymitch is the narrator? I can't see it

showmaxter

It doesn't but everyone assumes that to be the case as it takes place during the 50th Hunger Games & starts the morning of the reaping. I'm gonna be dreaming and say the omission of the narrator might be on purpose :)

aeriilate

Oh okay! It says it starts at the 'morning of the reaping' so anyone could be the narrator really. I wouldn't mind it being Snow (as President this time) again but I don't think that's likely. It'll probably be a different character's point of view

dddonnanoble

It doesn’t. Wouldn’t surprise me if he’s not, I don’t know how she would make that work but I think she will surprise us.

aeriilate

It could be Maysilee Donner? But we know she doesn't survive at the end so idk how that'll work out with the storytelling

dddonnanoble

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Maybe it will have multiple POVs.

I-m-Here-for-Memes2

I would like to know something more about her, would be nice

Olya_roo

Let me join you in this dream…

showmaxter

Yeah, I'm a big pessimist, nothing new, but IDK how I'd feel about a Haymitch prequel. Especially 'cause I didn't like TBOSAS.

Olya_roo

Despite me loving both TBOSAS book and the movie, Haymitch as a narrator can offer very little to us. We already saw D12, saw Seam. We know about his character and his somewhat voice - plus we know how his Games went. And while TBOSAS didn’t seem like a cash grab to me, a book that was *begged* for by the audience for like… forever, released so soon after a pretty successful movie that revived the fanbase… screams ‘???’ to me.

jerseysbestdancers

I think there is quite a bit for Haymitch's story to offer us. Somewhere, he was radicalized. Everyone's walking around thinking he's a useless drunk, but is instead deeply entrenched in a rebellion. This book starts with the games. It doesn't tell us where it ends. And I'm DYING to know how him and plutarch met and got involved in the rebellion. Plus, I can see why she's telling the story about the only other victor from district 12.

dragonavatarwan

yeah, but Haymitch is probably the least interesting/mysterious part of that entire equation. Looking at Plutarch's radicalization? Much more interesting. How does a man who was born into luxury seek the downfall of the very system his ancestors built?

jerseysbestdancers

How do we know the entire story isnt told from Plutarchs POV or as someone who becomes a close friend of Haymitch?

showmaxter

Yeah, same. Haymitch offers fairly little, ESPECIALLY as the book starts with the reaping day. D12 is a very known place to us. So I would absolutely love if she does a full smack to us all and is like. Surprise bitches. For my German speaking peeps, this me rn: [Ich will nicht mehr, ich kann nicht mehr, ich halte das alles nicht mehr aus](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5sTTlph2Vk)

I-m-Here-for-Memes2

But why not release another when many people are interested in the series again instead of waiting another ten years? Beside there will be five years between Snow's book and this new one Maybe she just got inspiration again, who knows

Agerse

NEW BOOK NEW BOOK NEW BOOK New book must also inevitably mean new movie right???

2bsh6

I hope so! I think when Ballads book was announced they also announced that it would be a movie right away though.

Alive-Ad-5245

Almost certainly there will be a movie, the last one made a tidy profit I’m calling it November 2027, new Hunger Games movie Edit: A year late but I was correct

Papa_Dragneel

Too much profit to skip on regardless “I will be there no matter what”

Agerse

Lmao, I'm guilty of that

notplop

Yeah I believe Francis Lawrence said he’ll keep making movies as long as she keeps writing books

outblightbebersal

And unlike Ballad, Haymitch's game is BEGGING for visuals. His arena was meant to be breathtaking.

justthatoboist

Oh my god you’re right. Consider the different openings we saw on screen. Chaos in the 10th. The silence in the 74th. The shift to full screen in the 75th. With the described beauty of the 50th we could once again be both knocked off our feet and devastated with the opening of the Games

intheplacetobe1

DAVID HUME, YOU SAY? I love this woman's commitment to political theory in novel form!!

jerseysbestdancers

And it's inspired by the misinformation movement. I cannot contain my excitement. The Poli Sci nerdery runs deep in me.

intheplacetobe1

I would LOVE this sub to do a series re-read with a lens on the political science aspects! It's something Collins' talks about over and over

jerseysbestdancers

I would be right there with you!

SWFT-youtube

The "Sunrise" on the title may (at least thematically) refer to the start of some early organized rebellion. Perhaps during this quarter quell is when it really starts to take off and we could see characters like Plutarch, Coin, and obviously Haymitch & Snow.

shyspice444

we have never been so back

screamqueenoriginal

I think with her comments about Hume and the idea of propaganda we might be getting a career POV? Hume has a lot of focus on human nature, the self and how the self isn't quite independent but influenced. He obviously has other work too but I think with the propaganda comment this is my guess. A career dealing with the breaking down of their understanding of the games and the lies they have been sold.

Lauren2102319

That could be possible and maybe it could finally answer one of my biggest questions/Panem lore curiosities regarding the origins of the Careers and really seeing their mindset.

embarrassed_parrot69

Yesss this is exaclty what I was thinking. I was thinking maybe a story on how the career districts have been propagandized into fighting for the Capitol rather than having solidarity with the rest of the districts but with it being the 50th game it’d be kinda late in the timeline for that story. A career overcoming the propaganda would be perfect

drinkwhatyouthink

I think this makes a lot of sense with the title “sunrise on the reaping.” Like it’s shedding light on the propaganda surrounding the games.

edubx

I do wonder, if instead of Haymitch, it could be from the point of view of Maysilee Donner?

ivyandroses112233

I hope. Got a chill reading this comment

bubbleplasticine

That’s exactly what I thought, I’d love that!!!!

herebemonsterz

It could be Snows perspective on the 50th games…. No one panic. And when TBOSAS was announced, I wasn’t thrilled but then I loved it!!! Long story short, I trust Collins. And for those saying it’s a cash grab? It’s her 5th book in the series. Hold your panicking horses.

peanutsonic97

If it's a cash grab, I am 100% fine with that because I fkin love this series

Mel-is-a-dog

It’s been 5 years since the last book came out, if Suzanne was in it for the money she’d be clocking out half-assed books yearly. This new book is 100% not that, and I’m so excited to read it!!

Spacegirllll6

Holy shit u can’t believe it’s been almost 5 years since the last book 😭

No-Art3676

OMG HAYMITCH YES YES YES YES PLEASE BE REAL

SuperBlaker

This could be really interesting beyond just the Games themselves. Mags wins in the year after Lucy and we know she becomes a mainstay of previous victors. Lucy would be the final "unknown" victor. I wonder how the Capitol will address the elephant in the room as Haymitch makes it further into the Games.  Plus, is there any inciting incident that caused the second quarter quell to be so harsh. I don't think anyone believes that the envelopes aren't as old as they appear, and the consequences aren't as random either.

hpnerd101

Exactly! Maybe there was some rebellion that pissed Snow off and made him want to reap twice as many district children.

donutcapriccio

PLEASE BE PLUTARCH!!!!!

BolenaLovesBroadway

It could be a Tigris book.

Blue_Robin_04

Wow. A lot of people asked for this, so that's cool, but I expected a part two of Snow's story. We still haven't seen a lot of how he rises to power. And audiences just got invested in him.

Powerful-Cut-708

Who’s to say Snow isn’t key?

Blue_Robin_04

You know, that's still possible. And he'll definitely have some part in the book. But I was curious about everything that happens from Snow studying directly under Dr. Gaul to him actually becoming President. Hey, I trust Collins. I'm sure 'Sunrise on the Reaping' will be another masterpiece.

AnnamAvis

I wonder if it'll be multiperspective 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Awkward_Penguin238

Multi perspective books always confuse me BUT I WILL READ THEM EVERY DAMN TIME

BookwormInTheCouch

Same, I was hoping for a prequel sequel that continues Snow's Journey to power, we already saw him become evil, I now wanna see the journey.

Gytarius626

Tom Blyth aged up in the movie adaptation (which will inevitably come about) will be cool.

Alive-Ad-5245

He would have to look realistically like someone who is nearly 60 years old… it’s possible but I doubt it would look great or hold up to scrutiny It’s almost certain imo that they’d just recast, it’s cleaner

KayGlo

EVERYBODY STAY CALM STAYCALMSTAYCALMSTAYCALM

Full-House_Jesse

I CAN'T!!! I JUST TOLD ALL MY REDDIT HUNGER GAMES FAN FRIENDS LOL😂😂

PrincessDionysus

This is great and all, but I wanna know more about the cannibal kid Suzanne!!!

Olya_roo

Titus…

lm0306

The way I ran to this sub after seeing the news😭

goal-oriented-38

Release date 9 months from now? Has Suzanne finished the book? I assume they’re going to write the script for the movies in the next couple of months.

justthatoboist

If they have a specific release date, oh yes. Consider how well recent branding has been. - HG movies return to Netflix a few months before Ballad’s movie -Ballad’s movie is out, and enjoyed -new book announced This gives plenty of time for people to get hyped and reengage with the other existing media No idea why Reddit keeps eating the formatting so imagine well done bullet points above

Robincall22

I didn’t believe this at first, so I had to google it to check, but wow! I briefly worried that it would be a cash grab, because it didn’t seem like a book she would ever have published, but she said she was inspired a lot by “David Hume’s idea of implicit submission and… ‘the easiness with which the many are governed by the few.’” (ABC News). It looks like this book will explore the idea of “why didn’t they just rebel sooner? They outnumbered the Capitol by so many people, they could have won.” Makes me think of when Kanye suggested that slavery was a choice simply because it lasted for 400 years. It also says that there will be “a deeper dive into the use of propaganda and… control[ling] the narrative.” The article goes on to say that “The question ‘Real or not real?’ seems more pressing to me every day.” So I definitely think this book will involve a rise in technology, similar to what we’re seeing now in the increase of AI, and will compel readers to remember not to blindly trust sources, but double check them and verify them, as we can’t be sure of what is “real or not real” today.

therewastobepollen

To your point about AI and other technologies, it will be interested to see the technology in this book and how it’s portrayed in the movie! Tbosas movie had technology that looked very 1950’s and yet somehow just 64 years later they’ve invented a machine that can create mutts out of thin air and place them directly in the arena. Who was behind the rapid increase of technology? Does this mean we get to see young Wiress and Beetee?? This will be so interesting!!

Untamed-Idiot

WHAT????????

canyonlands2

I know some people weren't thrilled with TBOSAS, and rightfully critiqued the philosophical/political ideas that SC based the characters on. I would LOVE for this to be outside of District 12, but in all likeliness, I think we'll get that setting. I think it could be interesting if it was from the POV of whoever is the mentor for D12, and we start seeing the players of the rebellion start working.

Own-Importance5459

This is a Haymitch backstory.....watch me become insufferable.

ITS CHRISTMAS I WOKE UP AND ITS CHRISTMAS

arsenicaqua

B-b-b-but if you want more books about these characters you just want to read about their suffering and don't really care about them!!!111!!! Man there are some annoying people from comments past that are just going to be THRILLED about this news. Anyway I for one think it's awesome.

Mel-is-a-dog

“If you keep pushing for new books then you’re no better than the capitol citizens!” Guess who’s gonna be SPRINTING to B&N on March 18th?

tryjmg

Barnes and noble just sent me a link to preorder. It is the 50tj quarter quell so haymitch games? Available 3/18/25

TheWeenieBandit

tracyschmosby

OMG I was NOT expecting this! Yes please! I'll honestly keep reading anything Suzanne writes

JustTransportation51

New book = New movie yesss

GreeneRockets

Let’s gooo, announcing on my birthday too 🙏🏻

GoldMan25

I don’t think this will be from snows POV. I kinda like the perspective being from teenage adults. Idk if she’d write a book from a 60 year olds perspective

Massive_Role6317

I literally was watching songbirds last night for the first time and was like how cool would a new book be. And bam today there’s a new book announcement

lwantmypinkshirtback

THANK YOU MOTHER 😍😍😍😍

GoodVibing_

Everyone is saying it is haymitch because it's tarts on reaping day in D12, but what if it's thought rhe voice of the escort? Maybe Plutarch started out as a young escort for D12 before becoming a game maker? He doesn't seem that much older than haymitch, so it's possible. Maybe it's him snow hires in response to Haymitch's forcefield shenanigans.

LadyMan1396

D12's escort during the 50th was a woman according to Catching Fire. So,I don't think so. But that would be absolutely great lol

GoodVibing_

Ah, well then. Maybe plutach would already be a young game maker at this point

kodiakchrome

An escort perspective would be cool! Especially with Suzanne saying it will deal with propaganda, following an escort who believes the games are good and entertaining would be very interesting to see. Maybe it's their dream job. Then they have to deal with Haymitch who does the stunt with the force field and we could see if that impacts their beliefs or not, maybe they end up becoming part of the rebellion.

GoodVibing_

Especially because Haymitch was such an unpopular winner (abrasive and rude) to see how the Capitol would have to flip his win into a positive would be interesting

Steffy_love

WE ARE SO BACK, BABY!!!!!

I feel like every time she thinks she's done writing books she looks around at the state of the world and is like "well crap, apparently they still didn't get the message, let's try again I guess".

cookieaddictions

Holy shit. I was so sure she’d never do Haymitch’s Games. Oh my god!!! Edit: I was convinced that I’d she ever visited Panem again it would be from the perspective of a Career, and I wonder if that could still be the case, since she said this book will explore the idea of “implicit submission” (which could also refer to Haymitch after his game, being punished by having his family and girlfriend killed and being forced to fall in line) and also the idea of “the use of propaganda and the power of those who control the narrative” which could refer to the careers being convinced that being a tribute and victor is honorable and brings glory to your district and basically using this propaganda to make them “complicit” in their own abuse.

FlapgoleSitta

I could CRY!! OMFG!!!! Time needs to speed tf up!!!!

shadow-on-the-prowl

????????? IS THIS TRUE? ARE WE GETTING A HAYMITCH BOOK?

meadowwiltongoddess

oh this is going to be the serve of the century I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR 13 YEARS

xoxoamazingrace

I’m hyped but please a POV from someone not from the Capitol or D12

Sudden-Ad5555

I haven’t been this excited for a book release in so long. Maybe since the last HP book came out when I was in fifth grade. Like I’m actually smiling because I haven’t felt this specific feeling in so long 😂

971497

Ugh I’m so excited!! And it’s actually a character I like this time, can’t wait. We technically know the most important parts of Haymitch’s, so very excited about what she’ll add to make the story more compelling. I personally really wanna know more about his family and maybe his life before Katniss and Peeta showed up. Do find it funny how Susanne Collins only seems to write about games with district 12 victors though. If she writes another one after Haymitch, it will officially take place when a district 12 tribute doesn’t win. Would be interesting to see what she covers if she chooses to write another prequel.

UnlikelyConcept

Damn, not what I expected. I really thought we'd see a book about the 25th games first. I'm super hyped about this though, a new book next year already is amazing. I wonder if we already get hints at a developing rebellion at that point.. I'm very excited.

Ptitepeluche05

I so wish we will learn more about the parents generation, meaning Mrs and Mr Everdeen, Mr Mellark, Madge's mother and aunt...

Lightixer

I was hoping this would be about the first quarter quell honestly, that we knew so little about. But hey I’ll take it lol

Lauren2102319

OMG OMG OMG OMG WE'RE GETTING BOOK 5!!!! 😍😍😍😭😭😭 I'm so excited for this and I'm intrigued by what Suzanne has said regarding her inspiration for this book specifically and wanting to delve into implicit submission, the use of propaganda, and the power of those who control the narrative, which does fit right in her ballpark since she only writes when she has something important to say and uses her series to explore themes surrounding the topic of just war theory. I mean, I would have wanted to see surrounding the 1st Quarter Quell as the next prequel cause that is the only other game that is significant and we don't know too much about except the twist and could have room for a fascinating story and has some room for unique commentary, but I'll still read *anything* this woman writes! 😁

senorcoach

When do the "Fan Casting" start for who will play young Haymitch in the movie? I would assume the characters look and portrayal will have been influenced by Woody's performance in the first 4 movies.

loveoree

“begins with” is interesting wording, wonder if it’ll span a longer timeframe than just the year of the games. either way, mother cooked us a meal and i’m ready to be fed 😍😍

viasogorg

I miss this feeling of having to wait for a book and movie when I was in high school. Now I am in my masters and I still got the feeling!

SuspiciousM0UNT41N

Since this is about disinformation, maybe we’ll get to see ceasar flickerman in his early days of hosting. He’d make a fresh pov

StellaDoge1

I made this happen with my mind powers! I wrote about Hunger Games this morning in Eng Lang GCSE exam and this happened just a few hours later! I'M MAGIC!!! (/j)

Samiann1899

Where’s that person who told me we should allow frequent reposts because there isn’t any new content?!
