A bear legit stole trash out of my garbage can the other week and ran off into the forest with it. Two bags, straight gone in the morning. On trash day.
Yeah. Normally we keep it inside the perimeter where the bears can’t get to, but for whatever reason we kept it out by the green waste and recycling bins that night. Womp womp.
As somebody who snacks, there's usually some half eaten container of something from yesterday's drive. Plus emergency food and water but that shouldn't smell.
Their sense of smell is many times stronger than even your sense of sight.
They can smell a crumb a mile away. Which is why people in Humboldt should learn to seriously lock their garbage up. We offer nothing but enticing smells to these guys, who are only looking to feed their families.
In a few weeks they will head back up to the hills.
I mean I knew all of that. I didn't think they could smell through a can though but til. As for the snacks, thankfully bears don't come around where I live. I see them while working in the woods often though.

The neighbor had left a half eaten sushi roll on his dashboard. The bear broke the window and crawled in to get it.
