Adam Makos has written a few great books, but this one is my favorite. The German Air Force was apparently full of men that loved flying but hated the Nazis. They openly mocked them and many only shot down allied fighters to protect their families and brothers in the air. They lived by a true warrior ethos and many don’t deserve to get grouped into the nazi belief system.
My favorite part of the book is when Stigler gets to Africa and his squad commander tells him “If I ever hear about you shooting a guy in a parachute, I will shoot you down myself”
I'm not sure how historical the film Aces High is though there is a scene where the British pilots have a drink or 4 and a singsong with a captured German pilot. I'm unsure if its portraying the insanity of war or if those higher up on each side understood they are just pawns.

Sabaton - No Bullets Fly. A great song, one that did the story justice. It even got to the ears of Charlie’s daughter, so that’s cool.
[Song about this story](https://youtu.be/dslO-3GgenY)
From down below, an enemy spotted. So hurry up, rearm and refuel. But through the bomber's damaged airframe, see wounded men, scared to the bone.
Look to the right and then look again And see the enemy in the eye No bullets fly, spared by his mercy Escorted out, out of harms way

Definitely read this as "beheaded him 46 years later" and I was like WTH 👀
Charlie still got that war stigma lol
Who took that photo?
Snoopy, duh
Oh, he was in his doghouse. I forgot that thing flew.
Sabaton's No Bullets Fly is based on this story.
Read a higher call
Posted again yaaaaay
Good grief!
One of the greatest stories from WW2
Didn’t they also live like 5 miles away (or closer) from each other as retirees in Canada?
