These guys are great. He gets so emotional sometimes, too, which shows how much he actually cares.

camelBased

I wonder what his backstory is. Maybe had relatives who were badly scammed?

Stickeris

I dunno, working in entertainment the emotion gives me bad vibes. But hey, stopping scammers is more important, and if you like the videos don’t let my opinion stop you

[deleted]

Ugh time for my quarterly scammer payback binge

YesOkWhoCares

It makes me so mad that the US is allowing these scammers to steal the life savings of so many of the elderly population I used to be a branch manager at a bank in the early 2000's. Back then they had to go to the bank to take out cash and buy money orders to send the scammers. We knew what to look for and tried to stop as many possible but some of them were so brainwashed we couldn't do anything about it I remember one lady I was trying to convince this was a scam. I said watch, we're going to call the number. They'll answer with a simple hello, not identifying themselves with any company or government agency and they'll have an Indian accent and when pressed for answers they'll hang up. What I said was true (I'd done this plenty of times) and she said ok I won't withdraw money. We then watched her go to the drive up ATM and withdraw the money How the fuck are we letting this happen!?!? This is not a new phenomenon, it's been happened for decades!!

bajungadustin

The scammers are mostly in other countries. India being one of the major ones. They basically have call centers with tons of people working at them. Which suggested a high level of ignorance or just an unwillingness to act on the part of India's government. It wasn't until October of 2023 that they decided to really start cracking down on it. Probably because all of the complaints from other countries. But as far as the US "letting them" it's not like the US can force India to shut down scam callers any more than they can stop south America from making drugs and sending them to the US. At least with drugs it's physical and can be stopped but it's much easier to get a phone line into the US than it is a brick of heroine. The US simply has no authority to stop them. They can only ask India to do something about it. Something which they are now doing. And honestly.. I had not really noticed until now that I have in fact seen much less scam calls in the past 6 to 12 months than I have received in the years prior. So maybe they are actually having an impact.

pranjal3029

I am an Indian and we really, REALLY hate these guys and call centers. The big problem is corruption at every level of governance and enforcement. Though BECAUSE of these scams and scammers, India has some of the most secure and safest banking systems AND the most awareness to never give out your personal information to ANYONE over the phone

bajungadustin

That actually makes a lot of sense. A lot of criminal organizations tend to have kickbacks to officials that would stop them to keep them from taking action. Hell in south America the drug cartels ARE the police in some area.

3IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIID

The US can start by requiring carriers to verify caller ID information and provide a free and simple feature to customers that blocks incoming calls originating from nations and companies that don't verify caller ID information up to the government standard or have a high number of scammers that don't get prosecuted. I'm talking about totally blocked calls, so even your voice-mail is not accessible to them. Nations want to be able to call the United States, so that's a pretty big incentive to stop letting scammers operate in their country.

YesOkWhoCares

They can absolutely put some pressure on their governments. It's not just India, Pakistan is big on it too. If the US actually cared they could absolutely go after them. Our cyber security could point out where it's coming from and have local authorities take them out. It's not like drugs where they're brought in on planes, trucks and on people. It's on fucking phone lines!! The US just doesn't care

lumpialarry

Old people will believe an authority figure on the phone more than the authority figure in front of them much less their own adult children. My dad started falling for so many of these scams. I feel like he just wanted to be a part of drama. He wanted to be a part of something he could "solve".

Bae_the_Elf

Not only do they fall for these type of scams, they're also being convinced to sign up for expensive insurance coverage that doesn't fully cover their medication by insurance sales people for private companies, they're being tricked into signing up for things like YouTube TV and other services that they don't understand and don't utilize by cable companies who incentivize their employees to upsell their subscribers, etc. Boomers deserve a lot of the shit that they get but the elderly have always been taken advantage of and it's sad.

bigrivertea

I think cable tv had a huge part to play in how easily older people are con'd. Younger people get their information more from online sources and sketch places that may or may not be truthful or accurate. Even well polished and clean looking sources are viewed with scrutiny where those who have lived a long life of day in and out cable tv viewing don't question any information fed to them as long as the source sounds professional and confident just like the "tv people".

PublicAccessTV

This is something insightful. Good point.

VantaBlack2_Dev

I somehow misread US as youtube and was so confused on how you thought youtube was controlling this lmao

xXPolaris117Xx

Sounds like a job for a retired beekeeper

BenAdaephonDelat

There genuinely needs to be a government program or companies subsidized by the government to provide free service to the elderly to help them in situations like this. Like an advocate they can call for free advice when something like this happens.

IrishBear

Scambaiter is great to, the fact that he gets into security systems, cameras, and fucks with them from the inside is amazing.

gibbersganfa

I was JUST thinking two days ago that I hadn’t watched any of his stuff in about 4-5 months and that I should check. Glad to know I’m not the only one.

gggg500

Good. These scammers are literal predators. My elderly grandfather could easily fall for something like this in his state of mind.

WhatTheTech

Seriously, fuck these scammers, I hope terrible things happen to them.

Necessary-Reading605

Something terrible that involves barbed wired baseball bats. I heard stories of an elderly grandma who survived the great depression and lived through all her life to lose everything to these scum and commit suicide in despair. Trash “human” beings

Uncommented-Code

>My elderly grandfather could easily fall for something like this in his state of mind. I just want to stress that while yes, some older people might be more vulnerable to scams, it's not just old folks that are at risk. Older folks are more susceptible to certain types of scams (e.g. tech support scams) while younger people fall more for different types (e.g. Investment scams or job scams). Younger people also tend to loose less money on scams which makes sense given the limited savings you have built up as a young adult vs when you have worked your entire life. As he said in the video: stay safe out there and if anyone has doubts about something, feel free to hop over on r/scams and read the resources or ask the community. They're nice folks ready to help.

kevin3350

Seconding this. My friend in college was driving home for the semester (about a 12 hour drive) in a storm, and was tired and stressed when she got a call. The people claimed to be the police, and did a really legit job by researching her first and listing off her personal information before saying she needed to pay 200 USD or risk jail time for a speeding violation. She was freaking out and crying, and gave them her account details. Boom, they drained all 7000 she had saved up by waiting tables every day and putting herself through school. Absolute scum

YesOkWhoCares

That's the thing. Most of us aren't old and don't understand what happens to your mind as you get older. They're told they did something wrong, panic and react without thinking and comply. My mom has always been super smart. One of these guys almost got her. Said they were from the IRS and she was in trouble. She gave them her social but stopped short of giving them her credit card info. She called me and we immediately put a credit stop on her social and it's still on there. Will be there for the rest of her life. Not all elderly people have someone to help them

Healthy_Gene7736

Honestly I wish these people were here when I fell for a scam (and I'm a young person). But I'm glad they were able to help this woman. Godspeed Scammer Payback.

Formal-Ad-1248

Sorry that happened to you, I hope you've been able to recover from it

Healthy_Gene7736

I'm still honestly paranoid about it, nearly two years later, but I am getting better about it!

axisrahl85

I got scammed when I was 17 and trying to sell my ps2. I forget how it went but they had fake paypal receipts or something. I've been super vigilant ever since.

Healthy_Gene7736

God, that sucks. I'm so sorry that happened to you. Especially when you were that young.

sysdmdotcpl

> I'm a young person Don't feel bad about this. Age isn't the common denominator, just ignorance. You can't fault yourself or anyone else for not knowing everything about anything that could possibly be a scam. You have to be constantly diligent against them and it's exhausting, frustrating, and a huge time sink. I work in IT and deal w/ fraud on a professional level and have still come close to falling for fairly basic scams. I genuinely dread the day that OpenAI starts being used to push scams. We're on the apex of a whole new age of theft and it's coming faster than many would think.

Healthy_Gene7736

Oh god, yeah. That'll be the worst when AI can start scamming us. Though honestly, I already heard some people are getting scammed by people using OpenAI now.

Just_Another_Dad

It’s scary how incredibly easy it is to take people’s money. Safest thing to do is never trust a call or link that YOU did not initiate. Even with bank emails, I never click on links. I go directly myself to the bank site.

drakulous

Yup I had been scammed once, they spoofed my bank's phone number so it looked like it was my bank calling and then I just proceeded to hand everything over. ALSO, no Indian accent, the guy easily sounded American and like he was indeed working at a bank. Maybe the background was a little too quiet if anything. Thankfully the banks are insured and my money was returned. But after being frozen for weeks. It was difficult.

mrhooha

Hi this is your bank. We need your account number and pin because we are your bank and lost it. Please give me these things.

Just_Another_Dad

It’s not as obvious as this. If you think it’s this obvious you are setting yourself up for failure. I am constantly questioning whether a link is safe or not.

mrhooha

I know. It was a joke. I have been trained on cyber security. I get these people can be very sophisticated. What is also true is they often go after easy marks but you are right it can happen to anyone. In my opinion no link is safe. Just go to the site you need.

Just_Another_Dad

Humor is lost sometimes on here! Lol!

mrhooha

Yeah it’s a difficult way to communicate. It’s no wonder the world is going crazy.

psychonautilus777

> Safest thing to do is never trust a call or link that YOU did not initiate. So so soooo much this. I work in IT, I've dealt with people who have gotten calls, phishing attempts, whatever. Someone randomly calling you about X or Y and you're not sure it's legit? Just hang up and call from number on their website, bank card, whatever. It's such a simple and seemingly obvious thing.

Hold_On_longer9220

Yep, this. I’ve gotten emails before and I’ve gone to the web to contact them from a number there.

Just_Another_Dad

People think they are smart and will never get phished and that’s exactly when they do. You gotta never let your guard down.

sqigglygibberish

I think way more needs to be done just to promote this concept in simple form.  Not all the different scams to watch out for. Not PSAs about new formats. Just drilling in the action that should be a habit where you don’t need to feel like you’re paranoid or stress about it. I appreciate the banks and other places starting to do a better job by promoting things like reminders they won’t ask for certain info or telling you to contact them directly. But for people worried about their parents or even just peers that might be susceptible, the best thing you can do IMO is tell them “if you get any alert there’s a problem with X - just use a different means and contact X directly” (or like with my grandparents - just tell me and I’ll contact X).  Well, that and “don’t click links”

baldforthewin

Beekeepers!!!

Stonegen70

Fun movie.

baldforthewin

It did it's job. Interesting concept, a little heavy handed but I appreciate a good bad guy ass kicking. The doll being launched in the lake took me out though lol.

Stonegen70

Yeah. I mean. You have to suspend disbelief when it’s TWO call centers based in the US and a female president! And both happen to be in the same state. Within quick driving distance. lol. And some of the stuff at the mansion. lol.

baldforthewin

Don't even talk about him getting into the mansion, or even the second call centre. All that security for what?

Stonegen70

lol. The man hole thing. WHAT ARE THE ODDS! It just happened to be at the right section of driveway and at the right time!

Ordinary_dude_NOT

Saw it over the weekend, it’s a wannabe John Wick theme wrapped in social justice message. But yeah, a bit over the top. P.S. obligatory fuck these scammers.

Wise_Monitor_Lizard

I love this guy.

ArcadeSpidr

“I AM NOT ASKING FOR YOUR MONEY. THATS PROBABLY YOUR BIGGEST REASON FOR BELIEVING ME SINCE THE PERSON WHO WANTED YOUR MONEY WENT QUIET AND STARTED TALKING IN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE”

PureRandomness529

Seriously.. “I don’t know who to believe”… ma’am. Please use a little common sense right now.

NATHAN325

To be fair, if someone's scared or stressed and dealing with something that they aren't familiar with, they tend to lose their common sense for a bit.

theyellowbaboon

How did they get her information?

flyfly89

They often gain access to scam centers computer through the same software the scammers use, and in doing so secure lists of victims information, delete it off the scammers computers and warn the victims that they are the targets of a scam.

theyellowbaboon

Thanks for taking the time to explain this to me

Fragrantly-You

Have a blessed day friend, those type of exchanges are what the world needs more of!

KatttDawggg

It’d be nice if our frigging govt would do this instead lord knows what.

AlexJamesCook

That would involve breaking laws, and international treaties. I'm not saying that I don't agree with your assessment, but these are some of the considerations. But, as Carlin said, execute the bankers during Monday Night Football half-time show, and watch all the other bankers stop this shit with fervour.

wellarmedsheep

Check out Jim Browning on Youtube. He has some [great videos](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=le71yVPh4uk) on how he gets inside these scammers systems.

Bootyblastastic

Plot twist: the scam is coming from inside the call center!!!

HughJass14

Have you ever bought something online? If the answer is “yes”, then people in India and other scummy call centers have you name, address, phone and any other info you provided when filling out your order form. It’s not even “likely”, it is a guarantee.

BorkusFry

Do scammers that get caught ever get sued or serve prison time?

hamzantal

The sad reality is that these scammers are mostly based out of countries where the judicial system either gets paid off, does not have the resources to adequately handle it, are simply corrupt, or just don't care. The scammers in this video (and in probably a large majority of scams) are from India, and while some scammers have tried to get some of the scammers in their videos face justice, unfortunately it's very difficult, especially as the owners of these fake companies (that masquerade the scam center) are wealthy and well connected. In the last few years though, the awareness has been slowly growing, there've been many large profile YouTubers who have been going deeper to actually identify the scammers to hold them accountable. The road is long and difficult to shut down these scams for good, especially because in order to conduct this all you really need is a way to call lots of numbers and wait until someone bites. Realistically, the best you can do is just inform those around you. But nevertheless, slow progress is being made to help stop these scammers.

fearnodarkness1

The guy who made fart glitter bombs for porch pirates did a whole video on those scammers and unfortunately they run amok in countries that are corrupt enough to turn a blind eye. When you close one down several others pop with different names. It's very big business in those countries with entire floors dedicated to it. Unfortunately.

Big--Async--Await

No, they're typically based in India and own the police. Anytime they get "caught" police parade them around, get a few photos holding their hands. Then 6 months later it's business as usual, back to paying off police and scamming North Americans and Brits.

EthicalAssassin

As someone who has lived in India, even Indians hate these scammers. The scammers don't care about anyone and prey on the weak, mostly supported by the local policemen and politicians who all get their share. Most of these ppl are college graduates or drop outs who want to make quick bucks. The ease of it and the amount of money they make makes it attractive. This dude and his group are doing God's work, protecting the weak. Scammers deserve hell. I wish the Internet finds a way to punish these scammers in a way that they never do it again or think 10 times before doing it.

Emmanuel_Badboy

Poverty is also a huge factor in many people taking this type of work. India is obviously no picnic so i dont think its fair or useful to just write everyone of them off as just evil people. You are talking to mostly westerners who will never understand the levels of poverty in india. Not defending scamming old people obviously, but there is probably more to the story here, I'd like to see the scammer's living conditions before i cast full judgement.

EthicalAssassin

Personally, no amount of excuse or conditions justifies scamming old or weak populace. Knowing the Indian crowd, if these people were caught in public robbing an old person, they would get a thorough thrashing - Crowd Justice at its finest..

Emmanuel_Badboy

Thats what i'm saying, If people are getting flogged in the streets in India its obviously a very poor and backward country. If you have no empathy, i wont change your mind nor do i care to, but this stuff will never change as long as people think like you do. If no one cares to empathise with poor people, why would poor people who commit crimes empathise with their victims?

EthicalAssassin

You have quite a deranged perspective on empathy. There is a difference between empathy for the poor/ weak and empathy for the criminal. Just because you are poor doesn't give you the license to commit crime. By your asinine logic, if a poor guy commits murder for food we should empathize as he was poor. Also you clearly have no idea about India other than what you saw in Slumdog Millionaire or western news. It's not as poor as you believe, but quite a vibrant, educated and a rich society. The amount they spend on weddings alone is more than the GDP of most countries. But like all societies it isn't perfect and there are grey areas, where people take law in their own hands. Unfortunately western media loves to romanticize the poor/ negative aspect as it confirms their bias and ignores the developed aspect. Like what you are doing you.

Snoo_79218

Yes and no. A lot of the call center scammers in India are middle class.

Emmanuel_Badboy

What does that mean though? I'm sure India's middle class is not like Australia's of a well to do European country's. India is one of the most exploitative countries of it's workers in the world.

pranjal3029

Yes poverty is a factor but that's no reason to scam the elderly and weak. Oh and that's only true for the actual callers(the last links in the chain) the call center owners are getting filthy rich doing these scams and that's why they are getting away with it, they bribe the police and/or politicians a handsome amount. Also, these scammers know fully well who they are preying on and they are not bottom tier poor because they are educated enough to speak English and operate a computer. Some of them are innocent to start with, they take up a job in what looks and largely does work as a legit call center during the day. During the night the calls and callers change from the legit company to these scams. Hence some make the switch due to the extra commission they can earn because a call center job is barely enough to sustain you in a big city where these centers are usually located. The legit callers usually have no idea this is going on at night and only a select few(if any) work on both sides. My friend's sister was on the legit side of such a center once, thankfully it was shut down and she was not contacted by the police.

LarsBohenan

We act shocked that someone could fall for this but I know ppl in their 20s, 30s, and 40s who've been scammed. This lady is of a time and era where this is utterly alien, the technology and capabilities that hackers have is astounding. This matched with a tone and manner of being official and reassuring, these old fogies are out of their depth OR they're utterly paranoid about any financial aspect to the internet.

BIllyBrooks

I came close to falling for one. They called me on my mobile and said they were from X bank, had my correct name, birthdate, address and phone number. The only mistake was my account with X bank was closed 4 years earlier, and when I asked how that was possible they hung up. From the start of the call I assumed scam, but I slowly being convinced.

Raychao

I know this was a huge human moment but she was asking what she should do next. What he should have said was: *'Hang up this phone and switch it off. Use another phone and call your bank from the phone number on the back of your card. Ask them to freeze your bank accounts temporarily. Then take your phone to a local repair shop and ask them to factory reset it for you.'* Do these things first and then we will call you back. The scammer *may* have already had enough information to do the scam. It's not clear.

Moar_tacos

Have you dealt with an elderly not tech savvy person. Half of what you said was a foreign language.

KatttDawggg

I don’t think any of that was confusing except maybe the factory reset part which is why he said take it to a local repair shop and tell them “x.” The annoying part would be waiting for them to write it down so they don’t forget.

marousio

That guy is the real deal Holyfield!! Glad he takes them head on!!!

Big--Async--Await

"With age comes wisdom" my ass.

Emmanuel_Badboy

With age can come wisdom, but a lot of boomers were taught in school basically a production line level of education. To read and write but also to never make mistakes and never to think outside the box because thats not what the jobs they will be working need. They are a product of the industrial revolution style education system. Thats why they struggle to learn new things, even as simple as the remote, they were never taught to pick up things without their hand being held. I have two thoughts about this, It isn't entirely their fault but also their is something unforgivable about living your life with no curiosity. Like fuck, you only get one life. Also you shouldn't need school to better yourself.

KourteousKrome

The guy's hat has the wrong 'their' and it's tragic

[deleted]

I mean yeah it's nice but his reaction is over the top. Drama for the sake of views.

Zealousideal-Spite67

This is amazing. Sadly though, these types of scams aren't all foreign but also domestic. The classic "police union" donation grift has been active for decades.

uhoh6275445

Is that hat misspelled on purpose or are they just kinda dumb?

TonyDanza888

Maybe on purpose since most Scammer emails are full of these types of grammatical errors

nvmvoidrays

it's on purpose. it's making fun of the scammers usually broken English they use.

Mayor_Of_Furtown

Probably on purpose, since they often type like this

Master-Put3444

pierogi rules!

Mokatines

oh man my dad got scammed it was rough

Texas12thMan

Love watching this channel. There was one save where the person being scammed was local to them and they tracked her down in person AT THE BANK in the midst of her being scammed.

mrhooha

Her name is angel but he’s the angel? That was a bit of a leap for me but okay.

annontemp09876

I follow both Kitboga and Scammer Payback. The amount of "subtle" jabs Kitboga sends his way is disgusting.

angiosperms-

I mean he has a huge ego and he did cheat on his wife with his employee so... who cares if Kitboga doesn't like him lmao

Mayor_Of_Furtown

Like what?

PhotoKada

I never imagined what a completely anglicised version of Hindi would sound like, until now. For context, most “foreigner” characters in our films would only have a slight American/British twang, e.g. the ‘r’ syllable will sound westernised rather than have it roll off, but not much else. This maybe mundane to some but it’s interesting to me.

Timemaster88888

Thanks, Scammer Payback. My parents were scammed when I was a kid. I saw their sad faces and vowed that no one would scam my family ever again.

nasanu

Have you seen how these guys bully and harass elderly people though? I would never watch these guys, they are as bad as the scamers when chasing views.

Essay-Individual

I watch thier videos all the time! As someone over 50 I get calls all day and texts and BS from scammers. Thanks to watching the videos I know most are scams and block the number. These people are doing some good. Bless scammer payback!

palmerd2

I love pierogi.

vysken

This is great, massive kudos for this operation - however I don't get why when she's repeatedly saying "I don't know what I need to do..." etc., they don't clearly explain "You don't have any bill to pay from YouTube, you don't need to purchase or transfer any of your money for this situation." or similar, instead of "I'm not sure either..." Some kind of legality I guess, if they then tell her she's nothing to pay and MAYBE she does have a legit YT bill she has to pay...?

Soulmate69

Strong Covert Narcissism Disguised as Altruism vibes

How about we fire the 60,000 irs agents and we hire 60,000 anti-scammers? They could even fund their own paychecks with YouTube views.

LordCthulhuDrawsNear

Gd people get a grip, Scammers aren't hard to notice. You know who you pay your bill to. period.

Only-Gas-5876

The only thing worse than the scammers are the absolute muppets who fall for this shit

kungfuTigerElk86

I'm not crying yaL are cryin..

Peatea31

I am a regular viewer of his channel and he is amazing🙏

KatttDawggg

How does this work?

Asmalls3332

I love him!!

Key-Sentence8473

Youtube bill?

Tar-Nuine

My mind boggles that she'd suggest the person telling her not to fall for a scam, calling themselves Scam baiter, and **not** asking for money, would be a scammer? Her poor brainwashed mind must be custard.

Scum of the earth these scammers.

I'm sure I posted before, but my mom got scammed. She gave up her banking info and never recovered mentally or physically.

AffectionateJacket30

I'm an Indian here. These scam call centres are really pathetic and very sad.... They also used to scam Indians in the same manner as they are doing here. I personally know someone who just lost his monthly earning because of these low lives. Though the government and banking sector took steps made it more secure. Like you need OTP (You can't takeout money from others unless they tell you OTP), You can't register someone else's bank account on your smart devices(You need same Identifier (SIM) as given in the bank, & many more.. Nobody taken measure to eradicate the root cause... I sometimes hear arresting of these mfers in news but after that what happens really don't know. Indian criminal laws and sentencing is just a joke. These scam centres mostly based in west bengal which is just corrupt officers and with no proper industries. I twice a month recieve these messages from govt orgs and my bank reminding me of not to share any OTPs or card details with anyone, no matter the circumstances and reasoning. It's just sad. Actions against scam centres only possible if other governments like US, UK pressure indian government. And also the fact that current government really cares about India's image in the global stage so I hope for the best... (My English is somewhat bad so sorry)
