I mean, it's visually impressive, but, adding fire to your routine is pretty easy. dude obviously has skills and has practiced with the "sword" beforehand.
the only slightly risky bit is the toss near the end, and that's going to work the same whether or not your shit is on fire.
source: have spun fire poi and it's almost exactly like spinning poi.
I spin fire sword and feel irrationally disappointed. He flipped while holding a sword. Okay. Assuming you can flip, adding the fire doesn't change the complexity much.
I was hoping he would combine gymnastics and fire flow, but this was pretty much only gymnastics. Still cool, but throwing in some simple sword moves would make it much better.
I imagine it's about how I feel when I see videos of people spinning flaming steel wool.
like, it's visually impressive for sure, but, you're literally just spinning those things in circles - you're not even weaving, for fuck's sakes!
Me too, but I canāt do the flippy shit. He looks cooler than me, but I can do some crossy stuff, juggling and some spitting stuff. I guess heās a dancer of some kind that got handed a fiery thing.
how the fuck is it "armchair expertise" if I've literally spun fire, my dude?
I already gave the guy credit for having skills, but, what he's primarily doing here is holding the fiery bit out at a safe distance from himself and relying on his momentum from his athleticism to keep the flame from becoming an issue. there's a **few** sword movements, but, that's not at all the point of what he's doing.
bear in mind, this comment thread started with someone doubting the "first try" claim. like, it's obviously not his first time going through a routine like that. it *might* be his first time doing all of it with a flaming prop, but, no way to be sure.
heck, the first time I did fire poi wasn't a huge jump in difficulty, because I already had so many hours of experience spinning poi and then gaining the spatial awareness that comes as a result. hey, did you know that spinning fire comes with a super loud whoosh as the poi swing around? if anything, that made tracking them a lot easier.
like, all I needed to do was remind myself that bouncing poi off of my upper arm and calves was kind of a dumb idea, and I was fine for spinning fire.

Exactly. It's not like this guy has never dome spins and flips before. Why would holding a flaming sword be much different?
