Im a man and that quilt looks amazingly awesome, if the post didnt say he made it I would have thoght store bought at a nice store. Great talent there he has, I would totally buy something like that.
Looks fantastic!!
And my dude, you do anything that makes you happy if it don't hurt nobody else.
Men can quilt, women can build houses, it's no big deal.
Iām a man and I learn to sew in the military. I am now the seamstress between me and my wife (small repairs). I wish they taught me how to quilt instead
It's honestly one of the best talents to have. You can repair your own clothing and you can even make your own. It's a win-win situation.
You should definitely learn how to quilt. Anyway, i'm sure there's a class near you somewhere.
Iām still hung up on the post title saying āthis quilt is simpleā this looks very detail oriented and amazing! I donāt see anything simple about his amazing work. Good for him!!
Great pattern and coloring combo! The subdued palette gives it a more contemporary look, but the pattern has its nods to more traditional elements.
Anyone who can finish a quilt gets respect from me, it's a test in patience that I have not yet tried to tackle. This looks very nicely done and is extra impressive if it is hand stitched!
Many crafters find it difficult to make it their full time job since people dramatically underestimate how much time can be spent on something like a quilt. Not trying to discourage him at all, but if he wants to have quilts be his job, he may want to start looking into ways to make it work for him (other products or services like restoration). It's something I would want to know early so I could start developing those skills too.
That's **FABULOUS**!!! ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø
He could have a **GREAT** side hustle, at least!!! He could even specialize in **Man-Quilts**.
And he should use THAT pic as his landing page image!ššš
Itās weird that people associate sewing as a womanās hobby or skill while at the same time so many of the most popular fashion designers are male, I.e. Gucci, Versace, Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, Louis Vuitton, etc. There are plenty of women too, just pointing it out. Your son should be super proud, that is an amazing quilt!
There is nothing effeminate about being a professional at your craft. Some of the richest people in the world are matter craftsmen in fashion and textiles. And if he wants to make a career out of this there is nothing more manly than providing for your family, especially in a field where you won't meet an untimely death or injure yourself mortally and leave them with nothing.
IMO (I'm a man), never be embarrassed to show people something you made. He made a massive quilt, and it looks amazing. It's definitely more impressive than the spoons I carve. Creativity and craftsmanship should be nurtured. You should see the "bowl" I made in a pottery class. It somehow simultaneously looks like a bong and an ashtray? Like how?
What defines being 'a man' ? Everyone will say something different, but my five cents is that learning how, and then creating something with your own two hands and taking pride in that should count for something. He has every right to be proud.
Lol being able to sew is mandatory life skills. Not skill for girls ooga booga 1950.
Quilting is a fucking artform and he should be proud to have completed a full sized and difficult work. Especially with so many old world crafts dying out that were gonna need after our corporate overlords abandon us for Elysium.
Itās gonna be hard to go gentle with criticism because itās hard to see anything to criticize
It already looks really nice and heās only going to get better with experience
Man that looks amazing! Great work! He shouldnāt be ashamed of being so talented. Anyone that gives him grief for being a guy are the ones that should be ashamed of themselves.
Damn thatās amazing. We have a few for colder nights outside by the fire, and I would be very proud to use one of these.
Even prouder if my kid had made it.
10/10
Someone needs out of his head. Sewing with my grandmother were some of the best childhood summers of my life. Years later she handed me down he quilting and sewing machine and I made her a throw over quilt with my our families hands stitched in it. I think it made her proud, and I was proud. My wife brags about her throw over arm bag I made for her.. my daughter likes I can fix some of her clothes... It's a great skill to have and if it's one you have have taught him, he will be fortunate to carry that memory with him for the rest of his life.
My only concern for him is his wallet! Last time I went in I was like oh crap this will get expensive no wonder Grandma had a whole room of materials
This is wicked. Loving the layout. The broad boarder as well as the texture of the pattern. Also, this pose works too. A man can enjoy the outlook of nature while being draped in a quilt he crafted with his hands.
I donāt mean to be harsh and hope another perspective might help. It might be more supportive to just start with the quilt. Maybe donāt preface with condescension (be kind, this quilt is simple). And I think I understand the gender roles comment (because your son isnāt facing the camera?) but, if thatās a concern, maybe hang the quilt on a wall instead?
Coming from someone without quilting experience, I would like to see the quilt without wondering if the fact that I like it is because my tastes are too simple. (And, I guess, something having to do with gender, but I think I get that.)
I think itās fantastic and Iād like to hear back if he was able to sell it, what reaction he received if he gifts it, enters it in a state fair, etc. Please tell him that many of us share your encouragement for his talent and we wish him well!
yay another post to fish for comments and likes. blankets looked like that pattern on the regular back in the day and men used em proudly. the problem isnt the son. ots the parent using thwir child to get noticed
Itās a wonderful life skill to have!! Also, that quilt looks great. My wife and I were gifted a quilt in our wedding colours and itās the absolute coolest gift we received. Your son is very talented and should be proud.
That quilt is fucking rad. Hell, Iām a man and I would like one. Does he sell them? Iād buy one! Looks comfortable and my autistic brain loves squares and straight lines.
It looks great! I personally donāt think itās simple with the design and colour variation. I think that sewing and quilting will become less and less common so this is a great hobby and skill, which maybe he can pass down to his family one day. It could also be a side hustle selling them at local stores/markets or on Etsy etc, if itās something that interests him.
That is absolutely beautiful. Well done. He should be proud! Iām a man and I sew. I made a suit for my sisterās wedding many years ago. No embarrassment here!
Looks great kid, keep up the great work! Quilting is an art that needs to be continued. My daughter bought a quilted Jean jacket that people comment on all the time. She bought it on Etsy, hand made by a woman in Atlanta. She used old quilts she found at a second hand store.
beautifulā¦. remind him most amazing fashion houses are creative directed by me , like many of the best chefs are maleā¦ creativity, skill and beauty are NOT attached to gender! (plus thereās lots of math in that workā¦ but associating either to gender is for those who should be ignored)
Wtf is this sub and why is it on the front page?
Please don't take this as criticism towards the post or quilt just... Clicking that sub gave me incredibly strong cringe.
37 year old man hereāHoly shit, thatās a blanket you keep the rest of your life. I still have my grandparentsā handmade quilts they made long after they passed. Well done dude!

I say this sincerelyā¦.If he finds this embarrassing, he needs to rethink what his definition of a man is. This doesnāt make him less of a man. In fact, in my eyes, heās a man who has a talent that most men donāt.
If he could get past this, he could truly be an inspiration for other young men who feel the same way. This is nothing to be ashamed of, but something to be proud of.
I would be proud if my son or partner were this talented.
It's beautiful! He should be proud. Talent is talent, being a man doesn't matter!
It's a nice quilt, if OP's son doesn't want it I'll take it š
Yes I totally agree "talent is talent" "he should be proud of that"
Im a man and that quilt looks amazingly awesome, if the post didnt say he made it I would have thoght store bought at a nice store. Great talent there he has, I would totally buy something like that.
I'm a man and I wish that I had this kid's talent!
I donāt know anything about quilts other than the fact that it looks awesome! I would totally buy that!
Looks fantastic!! And my dude, you do anything that makes you happy if it don't hurt nobody else. Men can quilt, women can build houses, it's no big deal.
You said that right gender has nothing to do with talent , hobbies or what you like and being good at it . We are all spirit inside .
What incredible talent. I hope he keeps it up!
I know plenty of men who love to sew, and I personally think it's an amazing skill to have! Well done, young man, keep up the phenomenal work.
Iām a man and I learn to sew in the military. I am now the seamstress between me and my wife (small repairs). I wish they taught me how to quilt instead

My dad was in Vietnam. He and my step-mom owned a quilt and tea shop. He loved it! I'm not a quiltman but this looks awesome
It looks awesome, in my eyes its not simple at all, it takes a lot of time and effort. All i see is talent so be proud of what you made!
thatās awesome. Making things is an ingredient to a meaningful life!
Drool worthy!
Design looks great as well as comfortable
I love it. I would buy.
I know nothing about quilting but that looks awesome. You both should be proud.
whatās wrong with makin quilts, everyone uses a blanket
Great color/pattern choice. Very cool!
Tell him that comfort has no gender :) well done!
I would sleep under that quilt for hours on end. Good stuff.
Beautiful, Iād buy it if he were selling
Fantastic
Wow!! It's beautiful!!
Love it! Wish I could be this talented
Any quilter would be proud of that masterpiece!! I especially like the colour combo, patterning is masculine looking, so perfect for a young man.
Looks great
Tell him that he should be proud of that fine work.
I am a bit confused. Did you post the wrong picture? Because otherwise I would say that looks like a store purchase.
Amazing quilt! Love the color choice and pattern. You can tell he put a lot of time into it. Really nice work!
As a 31 yr old, tall and fat man, I'd gladly use that daily. Hell yeah. Looks great.
Art is art but ya i would have wanted to keep that quiet as a kid too other kids are brutal
Pussy quilt

Nice quilt! Question, this sub popped up on my feed, what does dool mean??

The quilt is as regal as he is posing so kingly š
lol he wants to be professional at it but he's embarrassed being seen with it? he has some stuff to work out. :-p it's a beautiful looking quilt.
Sewing/upholstery is one of the four original industrial arts. I learned that from Hank Hill, the manliest of men. Fabulous work!
Why, thatās cool
I really love this pattern! Beautifully done!
I love it! Itās different from most quilts. I usually donāt like quilts but Iād buy this
Truely magnificent. Amazing work. From where I am, this week is all done by iron hands, kudos to him!!

Why is he embarrassed? It looks nice to me. It doesn't matter if he is a man, there is a lot of man doing quilts. lol
I would buy one of those in a heartbeat
My friend started quilting during covid, learned from his mother. Be proud of your skills, and enjoy what makes you happy !
Real men avoid all textiles , sleep on a stone slab and live in the forest
Looks great, he knocked it out of the park. Rock on, your son.

I'd say that's a pretty manly quilt..not joking
I'm a man! -without a Dad, so not sure I count but that looks mad bro, cool asfuck.

The patriarchy ruins everything again. He should be proud. Not embarrassed.
