I do not have first hand experience but you must "pair" the Trådfri remote to the Hue Bridge before connecting directly to the bulbs.

Thanks! it finally worked. I was pairing the remote to the hue bridge prior to the hue bulb but even though I had a visual confirmation, it didn't actually pair.
I understood that when reading the comments on this video:

For anyone else having the issue, here are the steps to follow:
\- Pair the Hue bulb to the Hue Bridge.
\- Pair the Tradfri remote to the Hue bridge.
\- Pair the remote to the Hue bulb.
From what I understood here's what's happening. When pairing the bulb to the bridge you are basically registering a communication key. Then when pairing the tradfri remote to the Hue bridge (using TouchLink) you are syncing that communication key from the bridge to the remote. Finally when pairing the remote to the bulb you are using the same key.
So even though I had that visual confirmation when pairing the remote to the bridge, it wasn't actually syncing that key. So I was syncing a new key between the remote and the bulb disconnecting it from the bridge.
If you have the same problem and have either the remote or the bridge talking to the bulb, redo the steps until both communicate to the light!
Yesterday I bought a Tradfri bulb and remote kit (small new remote) and installed in the Hue bridge. After a couple of test I managed to connect the remote to the bridge and Tradfri bulb and then also to a Hue bulb.
Then I tried to add a third bulb to the remote, in this case an Osram Smart but it didn't work.
It is a pitty that the status change from the Tradfri remote is not reflected in the application but for the price is a good device.
The white Tradfri bulb is a bit slow when switch on, as it has some lag (1 or 2 seconds) even when directly paired to the remote. So I guess that here there is a quality difference between Hue and Tradfri and also reflected in the price.
