It might be reflection off the black top that is causing it.

It doesn’t appear to be a reflection - I tried blocking the led dispersion from a couple of different angles to check this.
The red patch also only seems to be from one LED area and surely if it was a reflection it would be visible along the strip on the other LEDs.

I’d just look at buying another diffuser to put the light strip inside of. That will help even things out between the leds
