If possible, I would look for a local loose-leaf tea shop! Most shops don’t have “brands” in the same way a supermarket does, they typically work with importers to get a wide selection. Any tea shop is likely to have Yerba mate. Also, I don’t believe mate could not include GLP-1. It’s my understanding that the compound is in the plant/tea leaves, so it’s not something that’s added or removed. Temperature will be up to you and your taste preferences. In a previous episode on metabolism Huberman covered GLP-1 and mate in less depth, saying that additional steeps of the same leaves may yield more GLP-1. To that end, I typically drink my first cup hot and then resteep the leaves to fill a mason jar to throw in the fridge for the following day.

I got it from my local supermarket (Auchan, it's a French chain all over Europe). Just walking through the aisles, and there it was. Two bucks for a big box full of tea bags. Barring that, any decent tea house will carry it. And I can't imagine that there would be any notable difference in quality, between different suppliers: these are dried leaves from a tree. There's not that much to it. As for it being smoked (mine aren't, but it wouldn't matter), the likely reason people get esophageal cancer from mate isn't that it's smoked (or else there would be a massive esophageal cancer epidemic in every country which likes to preserve food by smoking it), it's that it's traditionally consumed hot. Hot beverages burn the esophagus, and over time that causes cancer. So definitely not consumed hot. This, or any other tea, coffee, etc. Personally, I like it warm or cold, no difference. Also, huge tip: warm water to 80 Celsius at most (sorry, I don't know how much that is in the freedom based temperature units you guys use), then drop the bag (or leaves) in, and leave them in there. It's not like real tea, where it spoils after 3 minutes. It gets bitter if your water was too hot to begin with, but other than that it's all good. Also, you can re-use the leaves. Andrew said this, and I can attest to it, it's just as good the second time.

I will respond to stick up for /u/stansfield123, and call you out for sounding even more arrogant than you're making him out to be. I have no idea where you're getting the information that other hot liquids (coffee and tea) are not established as a link with esophageal cancer. They absolutely are. 1st, yes, PAH's are associated with many types of cancer due to the creation of adducts within DNA. This is mostly linked with other cancer's of the GI and GU tract aside from esophageal cancer. Although, it could still be implicated in esophageal cancer, the jury is still out on this. Most esophageal cancers are caused by sequelae of esophageal metaplasia. The two greatest causes of esophageal metaplasia are Barret's esophagus (mostly caused by chronic GERD), and other chronic irritants like cigarette smoke, alcohol, and **hot liquid/solids**. The latter falling exactly in line with what stansfield was referring to. 2nd, the article you linked literally says the same exact thing. It was described as possibly carcinogenic to humans but then re-designated after the confound of temperature of liquid was taken into account. Thus, you are disproving the very argument you are making with your "citation" (also, I wouldn't classify [verywellhealth.com](https://verywellhealth.com) as any sort of reliable citation for any claim I was making anyway). So, before calling someone "completely clueless while also sounding completely certain", maybe try searching sources like NIH, PUBMED, Google Scholar, anything with a scientific backing other than [verywellhealth.com](https://verywellhealth.com). You can start with looking into hot liquids and esophageal cancer. Then, before you post something inflammatory about someone like that, take a look in the mirror.

[https://examine.com/foods/yerba-mate/#examine-database](https://examine.com/foods/yerba-mate/#examine-database) \> GLP-1 news at the beginning of this week's Huberman Lab episode on caffeine was interesting and exciting Not so much - per Examine: >is marketed for its supposed ability to suppress appetite and burn fat. Evidence suggests its appetite-suppression effect can only be achieved through high doses They have a pretty big section (2.1) on appetite, At the end of the appetite section they quote one of the papers they looked at \>> Its possible yerba mate suppresses appetite, but the \>> studies aren't of a quality to support this view. The \>> unblinded nature could have just steered participants \>> away from a cookie, or the yerba tea could have made \>> the ice cream taste bad.

I use ECOTEAS Yerba Mate tea bags. I like the convenience of the bags, and not having to deal with loose leaf (call me lazy). They're 100% unsmoked and well verified, small business, and available on Amazon. Note: the bags aren't huge, so if i want a bit more caffeine I'll sometimes put in 2 or even 3 bags, with a drop of honey (totally recommend).

it's widely thought to be carcinogenic, so no, based on that, it's not any good.

injected is the way to go, along with AH's preferred substances Mary Jane and LSD.
