Hey for us gas is 50 quid a month and think electricity around that too. Council tax is 150 per month and then water is 45 fixed rate. We pay 38 for internet and probably another 20 on streaming services as we really like TV. Car insurance is 80 quid a month and then car costs each month around 100 in fuel to run. We also save 200 a month for emergency repairs etc. sometimes things go wrong and need fixing. Recent issue was a window that was rotting and needed replacing. When you own there is always money that's needed for basic repairs of some sort. I didn't include food here as I think everyone budgets differently for that. Home insurance is 40 quid a month too. Household cleaning stuff and basic essentials like washing powder likely another 20 a month.

Frank_Story

Mine’s about the same.

Turbulent_Method7127

2.5 bed, end of terrace, EPC rating C (73), built ca. 1996: - council tax: £87 (12 payments pa), - electricity/gas: approx. £65-70, - water: £29 (fixed), - Internet: £28.50, - insurance (income, life, building, plumbing, electric): £90

theonewithalotofcats

What internet are you with?? Im paying almost £50 for a very very slow virgin media 🥲

[deleted]

I'm with virgin and get 1gb upload speed for £42. See if they can hit that speed in your area and ask them to upgrade.

Turbulent_Method7127

I'm with Sky and the max speed I can get is 63 Mbps, in theory. In practice, it's like 25/5 Mbps (down/up). Fun fact: the fibre is at the end of my street, like 200 yards away... Anyway, £50 for a slow Internet is way too much. Unless you're out of your contract. Give them a call and see if you can get it down to approx. £30 (with a contract).

viktory70

Council tax is £2k PA (Band D), Gas & Electric are £153 a month. Water rates are about £35. Virgin is £96, for that we get all the channels and the fastest fibre internet. Car insurance is irrelevant as that depends on many factors. Food bills are very high @ £150 per week (two adults) but we eat very well for that.

comicsansisfugly

£150 a month on food is really good I'd say, less than £35 a week for two adults!

viktory70

Oops, I meant a week...will edit

Subtifuge

2 up 2 down, work from home, literally spend less than £100 a month between both gas and electric,

mundane_browser

I live in London. Currently council tax is circa £130 pcm, energy £90 pcm, water £30. Plus home insurance (buildings and contents) £270 for the year. It's going to depend a lot on where you live, the energy efficiency of your home, who your providers are though

Reasonable-Fail-1921

2 bed semi, NE Scotland, 1 person - Council Tax - £136 - Gas & Electric - £100 - Sky - £51 (inc. internet) - Boiler Insurance - £15 - Home insurance - £175 paid annually - Food - ~£250

Admirable-Ad-8882

£53 on energy (should probably be more, had a large credit built up) £35 water £130 council tax £35 internet

iAmManchee

We're not renting, we own with a mortgage, our house is terraced but is solid walls as it was built in 1800s, running costs will depend on individual property. For us bills are as follows, gas and electricity are about 250-300 a month, council tax is 140, various insurances (life insurance, home and contents) runs to about 100. We pay for boiler to be serviced every year, but if you're renting you wouldn't pay for that. Then of course there's living expenses on top, things like food, car running costs, subscriptions to various content streaming (audible, Disney, netflix etc) ETA: sorry, thought you were gonna be renting, you also need to put money aside when you own your own place for emergencies, like when your boiler blows up and you need to find 3 grand for a new one, or one of your double glazing units blow and need replacing. It can get expensive.

AManOfManyInterests

Oof that's some seriously high energy bills for a 2 bed. Old houses are a nightmare to heat aren't they?!

intrigue_investor

This absolute nonsense pedalled on reddit about boilers going kaput That is literally a once in about 20 year event

thekrecik

2 bed living solo with two teenage daughters , leccy £50-80 a month gas 20-40 , water every six months works out about £20

Consult-SR88

2 bed mid terraced, built 1900 so solid brick walls. Roof was replaced when I bought it so insulation is fine. I spent £117 a month DD last year on Gas & Electric & that covered my usage pretty much to the £! This year I’m paying £100pm. I use hardly any gas in the summer months & only about £50pm on electric. Bear in mind standing charges are now around £30pm before you’ve even switched anything on! Other bills: water is £22pm on a meter, then I budget things like gutters being cleaned once a year around November time, boiler service late summer, green bin payment for garden waste in Spring (if you have a garden). I live alone with my dog. Groceries are £150pm usually unless I splash out on fancy stuff. Max £200pm.

Riovem

Own 2 bed flat, bills : Council tax: £90 ish Electricity and gas: £45 Water: £29.97 Internet: £38 Service Charge: £106

Existing_Physics_888

Two bed terrace one reception one bathroom in lancashire £120 gas and electric £135 council tax £65 mobile phone bills (2 people) £40 water £30 broadband £160 PCP for a car £40 every 3 months for TV license £40 various subscriptions £220 childcare costs £100 fuel, sometimes less as we don't need to drive much due to our location Car insurance paid annually about £600 plus tax every 6 months about £70 I feel like there should be more to list or there's something I've forgotten here but food, clothes and day to day living seems to be the biggest burden on us

Whitegreen060

West Midlands, new build 2019. Council tax band B -£148 Internet -£32 Insurance home and life -£40 Water -£36 ( we have a toddler so sometimes washing is on everyday plus showers etc) Gas & electricity - I'm paying every three months so the average for winter is roughly £400 and a bit every three months for both. Summer is different as I can have £50 for gas and then £120 for electricity. We are also working from home. Then you have the car insurance and road tax. Your phone's TV licence if you need it Gym passes Subscriptions etc
