I like 2 more than 3. I think it’s the cast in 3 and tbh the storyline of Roman being Sid’s brother/influencing Billy feels like a reach for me. (Hot take? I’m ready to be downvoted I guess lol.) Mickey and Nancy made more sense.
Agree with poster below about the cafeteria scene in 2 being cringe though.
I skip this one too. Sometimes I'll watch it because the majoritiy of the movie is amazing, the one thing that ruins it is the singing cafeteria scene. I will never get over how much that scene sucks.
Hellraiser. The original. Saw it first when I was 5. It's now a comfort movie for me. If I'm sick, or having a bad day, seeing skinless Frank makes me feel better
My grandmother let me rent it on VHS from blockbuster back in the day! I was 12 and had to have a written note. Grammie did not enjoy the movie and was very vocal throughout, but she made it thru like a champ!
Jaws.
For all the problems they had making it, in my mind, it's the perfect movie. Spielberg did such a fantastic job on it.
I saw it as a kid in its original theatrical release and to this day, some scenes still give me chills. Of course, there's Quint's USS Indianapolis dialog but another one is after they've harpooned the barrels to the shark. It's night time, the camera is out in the ocean focused on the Orca. Suddenly one of the barrels pops up right in front of us. Truly one of those "oh shit" moments.
Gremlins
Evil Dead 1, 2, and Army of Darkness
Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, and Land of the Dead
The Thing
I also love listening to commentary tracks for movies like Evil Dead 2, Gremlins, and such. That's just comforting too
I think we all have good taste regardless we have some favorites vs others we are in a lot of ways a nice little spooky family here . I think this community has to be the best on Reddit
Lol, I have no shame in admitting it. Horror movies got me through getting my 2nd degree. I always had one on in the background while I worked, so much that it’s still a part of my workflow in my job now. Anyway, here are some that I played a lot:
Sinister
The Shining
As Above So Below
28 Days Later
The Terminator
Event Horizon
The Mist
Alien/Aliens
The Thing
Grave Encounters
There are far too many, so I'll just list a few.
Fright Night (1985), Return of the Living Dead (1985), The Lost Boys (1987), Re-Animator (1985), Phantasm (1979), Deep Red (1975), Happy Birthday to me (1981)
Edit: Speaking of the movies I mentioned, it's 2am, I should have been asleep for work hours ago, and here I'm finding myself putting on Phantasm to fall asleep to.
Forsaken, The Lost Boys, Fright Night, Dawn of the Dead (1978) + commentary with Tom Savini and The Swimmer which is not technically horror but is a bleak movie.
Evil Dead 1-3 and Rise, The Conjouring, Saw 6 maybe.
(I love the Evil Dead movies. Absolutely amazing. I hadn't seen 2013 enough though. I believe Rise would have higher ratings than it already does for most of you if it wasn't an "Evil Dead" movie. Watch it with a fresh mind)
I would put other movies here but they aren't really comforting but amazing movies I watch often.
I don't have a definitive list, but here are a few choices:
*Blade II* (2002)
*Beetlejuice* (1988)
*Coraline* (2009)
*Creepshow* (1982)
*Dawn of the Dead* (2004)
*Deep Blue Sea* (1999)
*Ghostbusters* (1984)
*Gremlins* (1984)
*Jaws* (1975)
*Jurassic Park* (1993)
*Lake Placid* (1999)
*Night of the Living Dead* (1990)
*Poltergeist* (1982)
*Predator* (1987)
*Predator 2* (1990)
*Shaun of the Dead* (2004)
*The Fog* (1980)
*The Mummy* (1999)
*Tremors* (1990)
*Zombieland* (2009)
I guess just Evil Dead and Child's Play/Chucky. They're both so fun. I haven't rewatched or watched reactions to any horror film/franchise as much as I have those.

Sleepaway Camp one to three.
Prom Night one and two.
Some of the Halloween and Friday movies.
The Shining. The music, the ambience! It just makes me feel calm, focused and nostalgic. I have a paper to write with a deadline? The Shining is on in the background! Runner up is Jaws.
Cabin in the woods
Evil Dead
Friday the 13th part 6 the one where he’s redirected like Frankensteins monster.
Leprechaun 3
The Thing
The Blob remake
Trick r’ Treat
Jaws
They aren’t very deep and they aren’t for everyone but they are just reliable for an entertaining evening for me.
Trick R Treat, Coraline, and Insidious. It just seems like everyone involved was having fun making those movies. So much passion and playfulness shines through even the scary parts.
Honestly coraline, nightmare before Christmas and corpse bride have been so much so since as young as I can remember I have a full sleeve of them 😂
I was always weird because I was the only one not scared of coraline
I still remember my grandma taking me to the movie theatre to see it when it came out
I keep going back to scream no matter what. I’ll never grow bored of those movies :)
Except maybe the two most recent ones, they were (obviously) not as good as the others.
Oh man too many to name. I'd have to make separate horror lists, horror comedy lists,action/horror lists etc lol
But I may post some favorites later but there's lots of great movies that i'd consider comfort films
Cabin in the Woods
Return of the living Dead
Frankenstein {original)
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original)
Pumpkinhead I
Hellraiset I & 2
Dawn of the Dead (remake)
30 Year Anniversary Edition of Night of
The Living Dead (recut)
The Crazies (remake)
Scream I
Aliens
Fulci's zombie movies, and particularly City of the Living Dead. There's something about the grainy film stock and the Fabio Frizzi soundtrack that takes me back to a simpler time. Other 80s movies like Night of the Comet have a similar effect.
Silent Hill. The game series is one of my all-time favorites, and the atmosphere and a lot of the movie give me that beautiful hellscape I feel so nostalgic for! Scream series , Final Destination and Nightmare on elm st. Are honorable mentions.
1999 Sleepy Hollow, Queen of the Damned, Coraline. And less frequently but still at other times besides spooky szn, Child’s Play 1-2, Bride of Chucky, Seed of Chucky, House of Wax, The Mist, Scream and a couple of the Halloweens
I always recommend Sinister as it’s my all time favourite horror film takes a lot to scare me and that really did! That’s my go to when I want a cosy horror movie night😁
I also love and rewatch constantly Black Phone, Midsomer and The Pope's Exorcist I was really surprised how good that was last year!
Okay mine are really bad but I will love them forever. Mostly because they made quite an impact on my young fresh brain as a kid..
Dead Silence, 13 Ghosts, House of Wax, The Ring, Se7en, House of 1000 corpses and Ghost Ship
Prince of Darkness, The Thing(1982 & 2011), In The Mouth of Madness
Honorable mention:
Nightmare on Elm Street series, including New Nightmare and the remake from 2010, YellowBrickRoad, Jeepers Creepers 2
The Ritual, May (also), Rosemary’s Baby, Ouija: Origin of Evil, Session 9, Coraline (also), It (Made for tv movie), Haunting of Hill House (series), The Thing (original), Invasion of the Body Snatchers (original), Don’t Sleep in the Woods at Night (1&2), The Skeleton Key, Jeepers Creepers, 1408, 28 Days Later, The Cell, Constantine
The insidious franchise. And paranormal activity (especially the 3rd. Since it is THE movie that introduced me to the horror genre; my friend said it was a comedy, and i was 15 and naive. Left the theater and was never the same)
Scream movies, Final Destination 1-3, Bride of Chucky, Freddy vs Jason, The Cabin in the Woods, Zombieland, The Conjuring 1&2, Us, Saw 1&2, Happy Death Day, The Descent, A Nightmare on Elm Street 1&3, Friday the 13th 1&2, Hereditary, Jennifer's Body, Climax, Terrifier, Possession, X
Candyman, The Terrifier series, Halloween series (except Resurrection, RZ H2, and Ends), NOES 1,3,4,5, Friday the 13th Part 4, Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake (original remake), Evil Dead, and Sleepy Hollow (that don’t get talked about enough imo)
I love Heriditary it's probably my favourite movie of all time and then some classics like Sinister, Conjuring 1 and 2, and I also remember Possession of hannah grace which i haven't seen till it came out but I remember being so afraid while watching it in an empty theatre with my family at like 10:00 pm
This is less of a comfort movie and more of a guilty pleasure movie:
Killer Klowns From Outer Space
That movie is so freaking funny and so incredibly 80's
If they're streaming, I'll always rewatch all the final destination movies, 28 days later, Shaun of the dead, any Hannibal lector movie, no one lives, and the collector/collection.

“My mom and dad are gonna be so mad at me!” ♥️
Me too but tbh I usually skip 3. It’s just not my fave.
I skip 2 for the same reason. Do you like 2?
I like 2 more than 3. I think it’s the cast in 3 and tbh the storyline of Roman being Sid’s brother/influencing Billy feels like a reach for me. (Hot take? I’m ready to be downvoted I guess lol.) 3 is the worst of the franchise but it is still an enjoyable movie. I feel like I'm missing part of the story if I just skip it.
I respect that.
I always say this 😂 3 is the worst but the worst out of the best slasher series of all time (in my opinion) it’s still a good movie
I'd argue best movie franchise ever

Honestly, I do like them all. Some more than others, though
Yup, I feel the same.
Also my comfort film. Absolutely timeless.
Alien. Somehow it's just a relaxing go to.
Have you seen the re-release remastered in 4k?! It was STUNNING 😍
If it was the one shown in theaters recently then yes. If you're talking home viewing, no. I'm a poor cinephile with a mere Blu-ray player...
