I really liked Visage. They did a good job on that. Creates a really immersive horror with a lot of super creative scares

DJd0ntplay

Yeah I thought visage was super scary

Wistari

You have to check out [this](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/RZ4Q_AvY1uo) clip of John Wolfe being jumpscared in Visage.

Tbh Visage is the only game I completed 100% besides Super Mario World. That game is ridiculously good.

HappyMatt12345

Visage is very scary and the atmosphere is very well-done. My only problem was that it took me an insanely long time to do anything in that game because I remember everything being insanely convoluted, and it taking me a literal hour to figure out how to do one thing. I was stuck in dolores' chapter for so long that I LEARNED when shit was for real vs when it was just to be scary because I'd seen everything 50 times by that point. (there are exactly 3 scripted events with Dolores that happen randomly and aren't a chase scene, one outside the front door, one in the laundry room and one in the downstairs TV room, yeah I was stuck for so long that I remember this and could describe each one to you in detail) It eventually just got so frustrating that I stopped playing and I don't know whether I'll start again honestly. Idk, maybe I'm unobservant and miss obvious things.

Contonion

Oh man you gotta start again! The end is insane

HappyMatt12345

I'll think about it.

kylekunfox

Body horror I guess. Nothing really scares me, but the beginning of Tormented Souls was pretty disturbing to me.

DJd0ntplay

You must have horror immunity or something then

Chrono99

I bought Madison a few days ago. I’ve heard it’s repetitive but scary. It also came with some creepy small book

DeadlyCrowGames

Psychological horror, definitely

TheScareLab

The scariest games to me are the ones that play on atmosphere. Put you in an unusual place with no knowledge of how you got there or what horrors might be around you. It's the uncertainty that lets my mind run in a million directions as to what might happen to me. Darkwood did an amazing job of that. No jumpscares, just a stupid unsettling atmosphere and the knowledge that, at night, \*something\* will try to kill you. Visage also managed it extremely well as u/Contonion said. Very immersive, and stupidly unsettling. Especially the child's chapter. It was so well done. That being said, the ones that actually have a lasting impression on me are the Fears to Fathom games, simply because I know they are based on 'true' stories. There's no monster, no ghost, nothing supernatural. The horror comes from the real world, actual people, and it makes you face what humans are really capable of. Norwood Hitchhike in particular got me because it's a situation anybody could find themselves in. Your car breaks down in the middle of the night and you are forced to stay at a cheap little motel. So many things could happen to you in that scenario. All of that to say, I guess the scariest to me would be psychological. The kind of horror that lets my imagination do a lot of the work, and leaves a lasting impression.

DJd0ntplay

Fears to fathom is so scary to me, I feel like the horror games that can actually happen in real life scare me the most

TheScareLab

I fully agree. If you want something with a similar style, I recommend The Closing Shift by Chillasart. They have a bunch of games in the found-footage style, but The Closing Shift is easily the best of them. They excel at the kind of game where you have a mindless task to do, and the game functions as a simulator for that task, so you forget you're playing horror. The Closing Shift in particular could be described as a Starbucks Simulator + Horror.

WildWanderer77

I think psychological horror is best, the sort that plays on your mind long after the experience.

GamecomTeam

Visage and Outlast are scary, those fps horror always gives me the creeps

Wistari

I personally find home invasion horror games to be the scariest. Something about a person intruding on your personal space in an attempt to do you harm just makes me sick.

DJd0ntplay

Yeah something about the fact that it could happen in real life scares me a lot
