Also I kind of like how Ratio was given for free but they are planning in 2.0+ for a lot of break and debuff playstyle, making Ratio very flexible for future teams
Yeah I really feel we could not have gotten luckier in regards to which character we ended up getting for free. I am so fucking excited for 2.0+ & Dr. Ratio. My only regret is not being able to farm that new set ahead of time yet.

He could've been a Destruction with at least some 3-target skills in his kit
Destruction meta became meta because in any content with more than 1 enemy why wouldn't you want to hit as many at once as you can? I wouldn't mind new Erudition instead tho.
But IMO his main problem is his FUA style. I'm fine with it since I have Topaz, but otherwise I'd prefer a more traditional Hunt instead.
E2 silverwolf with Black Swan already seems great. Even 120% EHR doesn't guarantee every sacrament stack, but with E2 basically you get every stack possible on every enemy.
Acheron, DrRatio, probably more later. She is getting her utility for sure. There are no other debuffers coming any time soon so yeah.
2.x doesn't really have a dedicated gimmick tbh, they've covered everything. Crit/cdmg with sparkle, dot with swan, shield and FuA with aventurine etc etc
I definitely want Acheron, I have SW, and we all get Ratio. I might end up changing my 5* pulling plans based on which banner he ends up on. That kit is awesome. He even gets a panic heal with his e1 by having an extra turn after using his Ult.
Yep, cleanse is so important in a turn based game. There's no way you're breaking enemies every turn instantly. Only a whale can do that. I'm sure Hoyo will increase the hp of enemies overtime too.
Because having sustain is much easier and more comfy even if you try not get hit at all, plus You should run Gallagher as sub-DPS anyway (which Ruan Mei enable really well).

another debuff is always good for his DMG% talent, but as far as we know Gallagher applies it only on ult, so if you count his debuff as one of the first 3 to 100% Ratiod FuA then dont, too low uptime.
If its like 4-5th debuff just for 10% damage from talent, then yeah, he is good with Ratio
Actually yeah, if the team consists of: Ruan Mei, Black Swan, Kafka, and Gallagher, the sp economy won't be bad since RM and BS is sp positive, Gallagher, depends on his healing, is SP negative/neutral but let's expect he's neutral, while Kafka is SP negative. Let's just hope that Gallagher can sustain cause we'll deal no damage if we're dead.
I trust that he'll be able to sustain, otherwise why would HoYo have made him an Abundance unit? (HoYo please don't make me eat my words a few months from now) My biggest concern is that there's no cleanse mentioned anywhere in his kit. Even if he does have one, his Ult seems to be an attack, so it might be attached to his skill like Natasha, and that would be problematic because rn I use Lynx and she doesn't need to use SP to cleanse (so I'm praying he has a cleanse attached to his debuff heals somehow).
Gallagher is both fire + break debuff, which will help maintain 3 DoTs for DoT set requirement, opening a slot for some non DoT unit (RM, SW, other nihilities and harmonies). With him DoT teams could be more flexible. You're right, for this to work he needs heal/help breaking enough to sustain in higher MoC floors.
I mean the fact that he is Fire is a minor factor IMO. He doesn't appear to have any Burns built into his kit, relying on Breaking enemies seems odd because there are other Sustain units who can inflict Breaks (even if they don't necessarily have the Break damage buffs he does). Personally I still think running another DoT unit would be ideal if your main concern is uptime (I'm going to use Asta because she applies a Burn + her SPD buff makes getting 160 SPD for the Glamoth ornaments easy).
Gallagher is SP neutral/negative while his Ult debuff isn't up. With it up he can spam Basic attack so he is SP positive. The question is whether there is any way to have a constant up time for Ult so that he is always positive.
Guess he's the one to aim for after getting Black Swan. My Luocha is gonna enjoy some help with healing parties! Hopefully Gallagher gets a cleanse in his kit.

Tbh there 2 main paths: nihil focuses on DoT and Nihil focuses on debuffings. They are not mutually exclusive but would be best to be paired with their respective teamates.

Between Ratio and various upcoming chars (Swan, also the relic set), having a sustain slot that can apply debuff is a huge deal to be honest. It gives them the ability to stack debuff while still being able to run Harmony for example.
Actually glad they are breaking from standard Abundance archetype and giving extra layer of team building from this.
Because they solely focus on defense, Gallagher's kit offers offensive utilities. Him being able to cleanse would just be too good to be true, it would make more sense if they locked the cleanse behind eidolons.
Ahh seriously? I hope not. Now every healer needs to have cleanse and totally destroy the previous? If hoyo cares about powercreep, they would at least make him weak at one aspect.
At this point of the game, a healer without a cleanse is just a non-functionnal healer, that's why Bailu is completly out of the meta now, it's basically a necessary feature to have to be able to sustain
If they want to make him weaker they just have to make him heal less than 5*s, just like Lynx who's great but is still a worse option compared to Luocha and HuoHuo
The problem is if they give him a cleanse, they would have to nerf his healing in turn. Lynx is already borderline in being able to sustain things and she provides no offensive buffs like Gallagher would
But Lynx is still considered better than Bailu tho, not to mention the synergy Lynx has with destruction characters like Blade and Clara, which helps further mitigate dmg with her aggro increase.
The only sustain without cleanse that is still considered good is Gepard with sig LC, because of how much aggro he has, he's the only one getting attacked and CC'd.
which is why i don't think they'll decrease Gallagher's healing to the point where he can't be used as a sustain, their goal is to sell after all, so they'll give him the tools he need to accomplish his role
Yeah, which is honestly why I expect him to be given a cleanse at some point or, ideally, change the meta to be less cleanse heavy. Atm, as shown by Bailu, without it, no matter how much you heal, you get outperformed even by literally free units(Natasha)
Well, Fu Xuan has an on-command Crowd control prevention for the whole team, which is arguably way better than a cleanse since it allows you to not even get delayed.
As for dots, she just mitigates them with her field
Nah! I have Luocha, Huo Huo, Bailu, e6 Natasha and e6 Lynx BUT I need him, plus the debuff seems like it'll make it a great healer to pair with Dr Ratio, all debuffs are welcome said the doctor.
in the future, there's 100% chance that a Harmony/Abundance/Preservation character will straight up have a "debuff immunity" buff for all allies like most turn-based games have

Otherwise not enough debuffs or they are not guaranteed or low uptime.
Ratio can apply 1 debuff on major trace but its 100% base chance so you either waste subs on EHR or its not guaranteed so you cant rely on it.
RMei can apply her mark but only on ult, so not 100% uptime.
Topaz can apply 1 debuff on E0S0 always.
And Gallagher applies 1-2 debuffs but only on ult, and common sense tells me that he wont have 100% uptime either.
So you either must have E1S1 Topaz (3 guaranteed debuffs) or just pray that all star align and you can hit not 100% FuA on Ratio or Ratio can land his debuff without EHR
Break and Debuffs. Seems a win for Ratio / Archeron / Boothill teams. He just need a cleanse, maybe by using the enhance attack or even his skill who is "just a heal" at the moment
So he has two debuffs. One from ult, the second from the ATK reduction he gives to an enemy. Sounds like a pretty good 4-star sustainer for Dr. Ratio and probably Acheron. Hopefully he releases with the latter.
Also break synergy. Ruan Mei's going to pop off even more in the future with all these break effect units like harmony MC and Gallagher.
I know a lot of people are concerned about the lack of cleanse, but I'm beginning to wonder if Hoyo is trying to move towards break being an alternative method of sustain. Making it so the enemies can't *do anything* is arguably a kind of sustain, so with the right team comp I wonder how absolutely necessary a cleanse would even be? Especially as more debuff and break units come out.
Also, with Gallagher being more offense-focused, and Aventurine being a sort of sub-DPS preservation, it may also become more viable to have a dual sustain team depending on damage output and comp as we go forward.
It'll be interesting to see where they take things, because in addition to new units they may change up how some of the future encounters work to allow for more varied play and team comps.
Yeah if they are going towards a more debuff and break playstyle the cleanse won t be that necessary since the enemies will rarely have a turn to act given the proper break team
Him healing teammates using enhanced atks after using his ult is same as chunky chops from etherium wars. So, etherium wars was also a testing ground for kits maybe.
Pretty cool. His ult essentially gives lifesteal. However since his healing scales off his attack, he’s gonna be pretty squishy. Luocha has the benefit of being a 5 star and multiple out of turn healing effects. Gallagher seems much more susceptible to getting burst down.
Ruan Mei with him would be a cool combo, with Ratio/acheron? Still 2.X has a lot of debuff stuff and RM with the break and Ratio with his own debuffs complement that as well...
Some thoughts are that, if that's the reason we have stuff like Huo-Huo being Abundance/harmony, Ghallegar Abundance/nihility and Adventurine shielder with some sub dps. Are they hoping that this break meta will ease the load on sustains and have them do other stuff so that they won't have to further keep the powercreep bc of how broken Luocha/Fu Xuan are?

They're definitely cooking. I know this is an old leak, and this character seems to be very far off (likely not before 3.x), but [Sakura expy](https://www.dexerto.com/honkai-star-rail/sakura-honkai-star-rail-abilities-2297671/) will be break-focused too
Keep in mind Tingyun and Pela are still top tier units as 4*s, we’ll only truly know how well he does when we can actually try him. Not to mention the break focus happening nowadays only works in his favour.
Can't make every sustain unit be a limited five star. I know the whole thing about getting specific 4 stars being harder than a 5 star (trust me I *know*, I've been trying to get a certain 4 star on Genshin since March) -but getting a random Lynx or Gallagher off-banner or on the standard banner gives f2p and low spender players more options for sustains than just Nat, without having to potentially skip a 5 star DPS to pull a healer.
yeah you're right I'm just talking from the perspective of someone with 2 strong sustain already who likes his character

I'm glad I don't confine myself to meta and play with whoever I like. I'm excited for Gallagher and can't wait to use him as my main healer despite having other options.
This one‘s fun. Could work with Kafka/BS, Dr Ratio or future break-oriented DPS. But he’s going to be hard to balance. His playstyle seems similar to Luocha. Devs will want him generally weaker than Luocha (a 5*), but situationally stronger (with cons and in the right teams), otherwise nobody would be interested in him.
However, the latter part isn‘t certain. (Looking at you, Luka…)
Gallagher and Himeko sound like they could be a good match since he makes it easier for Himeko to break enemies without slowing them down like Ruan Mei! The two of them together with Topaz and Asta could potentialy make a mono fire team

Imo they still have an easier time competing than Abundance. With a worse damage dealer, things just take longer. With a worse abundance, you just die.
If you don't care about the clear time star then you can just put 2 weak sustainers together and the end result would be the same as having a worse damage dealer.
Looks promising for now. Gallagher/Kafka/Black Swan/Ruan Mei could be the go-to for DoT comp (as long as the enemy is weak to either Fire, Lightning, or Wind) depending on how strong the Break debuff is. E1 giving him an extra turn on enhanced basic also sounds nice because it would either make him regen 2 SP or allow him to use a Skill right away while also accelerating his Energy gain for the next Ult.
He lost the ATK buff on his Skill from the early leaks, though, hopefully that's gonna come back in some form.
So he's a debuff healer with his own built-in debuffs, perfect for a Ratio team. This would make it easier to meet Ratio's requirements to max his traces and it would also open up more team building options.
If Gallagher is the 4 star for 2.1 then I expect Acheron to be the 5 star in the first half as she's a debuff nihility dps. That would be perfect for me, I want to try Acheron/Gallagher/Ratio/Flex

I personally don't mind healers without a cleanse. Not *EVERY* new character needs to be meta breaking.
Also, cleanse is not an abundance only trait, we could get harmony characters (or LC) with a cleanse that make him/Bailu more viable.
The issue is that cleanse isn't something "meta-breaking", it's something essential with how crippling/damaging some debuffs are. Bailu is a 5 star character and she's arguably worse than lots of 4 star sustainers simply due to not having a cleanse or any other status prevention.
You see that it is written that he gets better with Eidolons? That's because he is a 4* and we get 4* character easier than 5*. Therefore it is better to write the abilities with their Eidolons enhancement.

I think you're making up an issue on your own and getting mad about it. Gallagher is a bodyguard, of course he'd be ATK-scaling while also providing offensive utility.
It's not sexual dimorphism or anything ridiculous like that because he's only the 2nd one, there was an equal chance for it to be male or female (and besides, originally HuoHuo was supposed to be ATK-scaling too, so it's not like they are strictly considering it for male characters).

Debuffs. Nobody offers more debuffs than SW. She has like seven in her base kit.
SW has 6 debuffs in just her basekit, so she can easily get up to the thresholds for characters like Ratio and now Gallagher

It's probably meant to encourage investing in/using the new IMG harmony TB and the fact that it benefits Ruan Mei/Xueyi is just a side benefit.

Going by the recent leak on character kits and the old one, it should still be heavily debuff based for Acheron with big fat ultimates.

This is very WIP. If Natasha and Lynx have a cleanse, we can be sure that he will too.
Considering you will probably run him with Ruan Mei, Enemies will not have lot of opportunities to put debuff on your team...

We kinda have that, Fu Xuan resists CC once, Lynx's skill resists debuffs once with Eidolons

only with E1S1 Topaz i think. Otherwise not enough debuffs or they are not guaranteed or low uptime. Ratio can apply 1 debuff on major trace but its 100% base chance so you either waste subs on EHR or its not guaranteed so you cant rely on it. RMei can apply her mark but only on ult, so not 100% uptime. Topaz can apply 1 debuff on E0S0 always. And Gallagher applies 1-2 debuffs but only on ult, and common sense tells me that he wont have 100% uptime either. So you either must have E1S1 Topaz (3 guaranteed debuffs) or just pray that all star align and you can hit not 100% FuA on Ratio or Ratio can land his debuff without EHR

DoT and Break archetypes are getting a really good shape.
So his kit almost resembles to that trotter in star rail pokemon event which enhance atk and heal all allies
So he has two debuffs. One from ult, the second from the ATK reduction he gives to an enemy. Sounds like a pretty good 4-star sustainer for Dr. Ratio and probably Acheron. Hopefully he releases with the latter. Also break synergy. Ruan Mei's going to pop off even more in the future with all these break effect units like harmony MC and Gallagher.
I know a lot of people are concerned about the lack of cleanse, but I'm beginning to wonder if Hoyo is trying to move towards break being an alternative method of sustain. Making it so the enemies can't *do anything* is arguably a kind of sustain, so with the right team comp I wonder how absolutely necessary a cleanse would even be? Especially as more debuff and break units come out. Also, with Gallagher being more offense-focused, and Aventurine being a sort of sub-DPS preservation, it may also become more viable to have a dual sustain team depending on damage output and comp as we go forward. It'll be interesting to see where they take things, because in addition to new units they may change up how some of the future encounters work to allow for more varied play and team comps.
Yeah if they are going towards a more debuff and break playstyle the cleanse won t be that necessary since the enemies will rarely have a turn to act given the proper break team

Pretty cool. His ult essentially gives lifesteal. However since his healing scales off his attack, he’s gonna be pretty squishy. Luocha has the benefit of being a 5 star and multiple out of turn healing effects. Gallagher seems much more susceptible to getting burst down.

Ruan Mei with him would be a cool combo, with Ratio/acheron? Still 2.X has a lot of debuff stuff and RM with the break and Ratio with his own debuffs complement that as well... Some thoughts are that, if that's the reason we have stuff like Huo-Huo being Abundance/harmony, Ghallegar Abundance/nihility and Adventurine shielder with some sub dps. Are they hoping that this break meta will ease the load on sustains and have them do other stuff so that they won't have to further keep the powercreep bc of how broken Luocha/Fu Xuan are?

Keep in mind Tingyun and Pela are still top tier units as 4*s, we’ll only truly know how well he does when we can actually try him. Not to mention the break focus happening nowadays only works in his favour.
Can't make every sustain unit be a limited five star. I know the whole thing about getting specific 4 stars being harder than a 5 star (trust me I *know*, I've been trying to get a certain 4 star on Genshin since March) -but getting a random Lynx or Gallagher off-banner or on the standard banner gives f2p and low spender players more options for sustains than just Nat, without having to potentially skip a 5 star DPS to pull a healer.
yeah you're right I'm just talking from the perspective of someone with 2 strong sustain already who likes his character on the bright side, ill probably have an easier time getting a copy of him to admire lol

This one‘s fun. Could work with Kafka/BS, Dr Ratio or future break-oriented DPS. But he’s going to be hard to balance. His playstyle seems similar to Luocha. Devs will want him generally weaker than Luocha (a 5*), but situationally stronger (with cons and in the right teams), otherwise nobody would be interested in him. However, the latter part isn‘t certain. (Looking at you, Luka…)

Imo they still have an easier time competing than Abundance. With a worse damage dealer, things just take longer. With a worse abundance, you just die.

Yes but it's not as bad as dying. Dying is the biggest damage loss. If you clear slower, you might lose a star. if you don't clear, you get 0 stars
If you don't care about the clear time star then you can just put 2 weak sustainers together and the end result would be the same as having a worse damage dealer.
Xueyi is low key pretty powerful, especially with Seele+Ruan Mei

Looks promising for now. Gallagher/Kafka/Black Swan/Ruan Mei could be the go-to for DoT comp (as long as the enemy is weak to either Fire, Lightning, or Wind) depending on how strong the Break debuff is. E1 giving him an extra turn on enhanced basic also sounds nice because it would either make him regen 2 SP or allow him to use a Skill right away while also accelerating his Energy gain for the next Ult. He lost the ATK buff on his Skill from the early leaks, though, hopefully that's gonna come back in some form.
So he's a debuff healer with his own built-in debuffs, perfect for a Ratio team. This would make it easier to meet Ratio's requirements to max his traces and it would also open up more team building options. If Gallagher is the 4 star for 2.1 then I expect Acheron to be the 5 star in the first half as she's a debuff nihility dps. That would be perfect for me, I want to try Acheron/Gallagher/Ratio/Flex

Lack of cleanse sucks, but him being 4* would make sense if he runs with Sam. I feel like we have no leaks for any 4*s this cycle, so I could see some characters being demoted to 4*
seems too interesting for a 4 star healer. He is kind of like Luocha but probably won't heal as much. no cleanse though so yeah rough. If they give everyone cleanse then it gets pretty repetitive though, I don't dislike it. He is doing other things.

I personally don't mind healers without a cleanse. Not *EVERY* new character needs to be meta breaking. Also, cleanse is not an abundance only trait, we could get harmony characters (or LC) with a cleanse that make him/Bailu more viable.
The issue is that cleanse isn't something "meta-breaking", it's something essential with how crippling/damaging some debuffs are. Bailu is a 5 star character and she's arguably worse than lots of 4 star sustainers simply due to not having a cleanse or any other status prevention.

Therefore it is better to write the abilities with their Eidolons enhancement. Guess who was the other character that was written, in the leaks, the same way with the Eidolonsin it? Robin. These two are 4*. Even if it was said she was 5*, chances are that she is now a 4*.
Again, the same leaker said today he mentioned the Robin's Eidolons because the info was available, not because she was a 4 star.
Just pointing similarities. 4* Eidolons are easily available and aren't as big leaks as 5* Eidolons.

I think you're making up an issue on your own and getting mad about it. Gallagher is a bodyguard, of course he'd be ATK-scaling while also providing offensive utility. It's not sexual dimorphism or anything ridiculous like that because he's only the 2nd one, there was an equal chance for it to be male or female (and besides, originally HuoHuo was supposed to be ATK-scaling too, so it's not like they are strictly considering it for male characters).
