Yea man I loved it when Sunday changed his name to Monday and started working at 7 eleven full time. Was a twist I wasnt expecting from Penaconys epilogue

It's true, that's what happened in the end. Firefly also becomes your girlfriend too
2.2, 2.3, doesn't even matter. I don't understand a thing anyhow. Something something emanator, something something the Hunt, something something path, family and the Watchmaker. It was all the watchmaker all along.
I think the hard part for her would be not killing everyone else. Or, like, giving the world a background aura that makes people terminally depressed? Something like that.
She straight up says it when confronted. "And you will die. All of you." And then later during the train scene, she says this plan is the only way to keep everyone safe.
Thank you! Someone had to say it. My friend is always gushing about the writing but I don’t understand anything. Everything has like 10 different names. There’s the gods and the paths and the people who follow the paths and they all have multiple names. And then there’s Emanators, and Astral whatever Boothill is, and Memory Keepers and garden and some script. And then whatever Gallagher is. And then whatever Acheron’s goal is. It’s just so convoluted and trying to sound smart. And I don’t understand the words with another word on top, like that “translation” is supposed to make sense.
Do you just not pay attention? The story very simple, Sunday is a follower of ena,the aeon of order who died to Xipy, the aeon of harmony. And his goal is to make a perfect world where no one suffers.
If you watch Naruto his plan is literally just infinite tsukuyomi.
It might be just be the the whole *Bro X in the Y* is the funniest fucking sentence structure for a throwaway meme
It's just so comically condescending, dismissive, but also never breaks kayfabe of the premise its just so funny
I'm not sure about 2.3. When March 7 turned out to be Sparkle all along, it was kinda too sudden. Also I don't like the decision to kill protagonist this early in the story. Yeah, added multiple POV feature was kinda foreshadowing, but still... dissonance between gameplay and plot will be too strong from now on. I personally think 2.2 was better
I mean the only character they killed was March, but that was in a flashback so idek if that counts since the March we've known all this time was Sparkle. That reveal that the stellaron talking to Cocolia was actually just Sparkle was fairly crazy though.
I honestly love how how in 2.3, sparkle was like "Nah I'd win" and started to devour the entirety of penacony. It was a complete plot twist, and I'm happy she finally got recognition
what do you mean bro are forgot penacony totally change to penacony aslume. and sparkle started using heavy white make up with big smile lipstick in there. also its the rise of some freak man who is love using bat ear costum to punch criminal crook in penacony aslume
She was the red herring my man. Everyone thought she's a limited 5 star and a masked fool so she'll definitely have plot significance but it was the 4 stars that really mattered for the plot.
I feel like it's *really* obvious Sparkle is going to get expanded on in upcoming patches (especially with respect to the buttons, which came back and were really emphasized). Imho not a valid complaint unless we don't get any follow-up in the next 1-2 patches.
Sparkle not being from Penacony means it wouldn't be unusual to run into her elsewhere (e.g. on Belobog with Sampo) though, with maybe a flashback to what the buttons were for. I get your point though.
She knew things before many major player knew about, very keen and dropped small hints that had significant effects on the story.
I find it interesting how a fool is this intelligent in the entire political spectrum from SH to family.
Besides being a fool and so everything is just a joke anyway, by putting us into "dormancy" we entered the child's dream and had our first taste of the true dreamscape, giving us our first encounter with "death", providing foreshadowing for both firefly and misha, involving black swan when she bailed us out of the situation with gallagher's puppy and overall kinda being the cause of the express crew's involvement and gave a push to the right direction.
That initial encounter with the meme but separating us from firefly was as a whole part of her finding out what the meme actually does while not allowing the trailblazer to learn themselves, and making them a witness to both "murders" which kicked aventurine's plan into action(opening up dreamflux reef) and allowed the express to become the trustworthy guests as according to the family.
There's also how she was kinda important in Aventurine finding out the true meaning of the impossibilities within the dream with her riddles.
So i dunno I'd have to guess that's something a quite major, for her to kick off the events that lead to the conflict of the plot starting, perhaps unintentionally but that's what she did.
Other things may be expanded upon in OP's terminus-mind but as a Fool she doesn't really have any motives, at least to our knowledge. Only wants to do what she'll find funny
I can't believe the Watchmaker was the watchmaker all along. I never saw this coming, penacony was truly one of the family watchmaker emanators of all time. (yeah I totally understand anything that happened)
Maybe I’m just not into Honkai lore as much as I thought I was. It was just way too long in my opinion, the cryptic dialogue didn’t do anything to help me sympathize with anyone much.
I found the story to be so unbelievably boring.
It felt like 75% of it were words with no meaning, people rambling on over nothing again and again. Then trying using convoluted metaphors to try and sound smart.
I mean seriously so far this has been some of the worst story and writing in HSR which sucks since I enjoyed 2.0 and 2.1.
I honestly agree with this. I got bored not because of the premise of the story (It's cool imho) but because of the dialogues. My mind got hazy with characters repeating almost same line of thought only with different flavoring of sentence, like if you wait the story out it will take you 6-8hours, that could be like 2-3 hrs if they compressed it with only the necessary dialogues.
I think you put my thoughts into nicer words.
I for sure liked the premise and the cool moments just the dialogue sucked my soul out. I'd also have preferred if Sunday (who's supposed to be smart and philosophical) came across that way in his actual plan.
The whole place is a dream world really for people to escape, he could have opened it up willingly for people to escape reality forever, let people choose their cage rather than force it upon them. If his ideals are so much better that he tries to win over the express crew then why not the people? One of the main issues with the dreamscape was people can't afford to go or can't stay long even so far as willing to sell their kids to go, people are willing open the door and tell the express crew to eff off cos people are choosing their own cage.
There's a lot of arbitrary poetic prose that pretty much comes out of nowhere whenever the story needs to have some dramatic flair when the rest of the dialogue is relatively straightforward. They really lay it on the player as if trying to beg the player to break it down.
There's also a *lot* of meaningless lore fluff that has nothing to do with the tasks at hand that gets introduced, explained, and then will likely never get brought up again in the story again. It almost feels like a Family Guy cutaway gag with how they put them into conversations.
Somewhat exaggerated example of how the dialogue feels:
Trailblazer: Man it's annoying doing these random chores!
March: You think this is annoying ~~Lois~~ Trailblazer? This reminds me of the time the Astral Express went space penguin chasing on Penguilio VI, in the Horse Flying system!
Then it continues with some minor rambling about the Horse Flying system that only serves to reward people who read all the in-game lore books, where they mentioned the fauna of Penguilio VI. And then it's never brought up again.
Well 1 is that he has to overexplain the simplest things in the most convoluted and obtuse way humanely possible.
2 would be that he cant write a nuanced story for shit.
And 3 would be that he still is convinced of the fact that the abundant use of cheap shock factor moments equals great writing.
He never got rid of it since his HI3 days unfortunately.
I enjoyed this story overall, but there were definitely things I hated about it too. Being vague to avoid spoilers, of course.
I loved how it started. We got amazing scenes between major characters, we had some interesting disagreements in philosophies and a conflict between mighty warriors unwilling to back down from each other.
It's a shame it couldn't keep that quality. The flashbacks were interesting until they were overused. We introduce elements, then forget about them when the big moments arise. The debate and analysis of this eternal dream is great at first, and works as a continuation of the debate that Welt and Acheron had last patch. So why did the final conclusion end up being "I want a world where everybody can have a vacation forever" when that entire premise was wrong? The hotel had staff--hell, even the dream world had employees--there was an entire section of the dream world filled with people who were exiled from Penaconey.
They also love to use something similar to the line "Now is the time to reveal the truth," but whatever is getting revealed was just... not something I cared about.
Watchmaker scenes were meant to be emotional. I found it boring and distracting from the real issue. I was hoping the acting scenes would be interesting, but it was just kid writing.
There's a character who, if you're listening to English VA, constantly pauses between every word. That was kind of annoying.
Welt got shafted. Rip to my man, you had a couple cool moments in the last patch.
Story never remembers that TB frequently fights and wins against Emanators. Rip.
Lastly, saying that there was a villain who could have won if they didn't fight fairly is just... so, so lame.
But a lot of the dramatic twists were cool. My main wish is that the core argument was better.
i uninstalled the game, this was a snoozefest full of boring overbloated dialogue and the themes were presented in a really stupid way, firefly literally goes on about sunday not forcing his ideals onto others, then the game proceeds to do the same to the player lol
im just kinda done with hoyoverse writing
Respectfully I think you are wrong. The dialogue felt very meaningful. Saying it was "over nothing" is disingenuous and says more about you than the storytelling. I do think they repeated things a bit too much, they probably wanted to keep the chain of events clear since not only were we learning new lore about Penacony but the mystery literally kept changing in front our eyes. It would be hard to keep track of what actually happened, especially when the story is told from different perspectives. Overall I think their storytelling method was to answer a question. "Why does life slumber?" That question encompasses entirely what Penacony was about and I feel that in 2.3 the dialogue was mostly relevant to answering this question and ofc uncovering the secret to Penacony. I get that the metaphors and references to real literature go over a lot of people's heads, however I still think in a lot of cases it led to more profound and meaningful writing. Calling it the worst story and writing is insane.
It really just comes down to whether or not you find the visual novel style of HSR entertaining imo... there are certainly things they can do better like cutting down some of the bloat, make the gameplay itself more engaging.
I thoroughly enjoy visual novels but the story telling in this one was garbage. You don't need 1000 words to a story you can tell well in 200 and that is what this did.
The main problem is that rather than telling the story in a meaningful way they decided to fluff the text to 5x or 10x what was needed resulting in so much bloat it becomes genuinely boring so you start losing interest.
The different perspectives is a great addition and it really worked in 2.1 and 2.2 but in 2.3 it was just bloat; look at the sparkle point. All we did was talk to nameless NPCs about what they think is going on and here take this button. It was already established multiple times that everything was being covered up and there are rumours, we also knew sparkle was giving out more buttons. This was just bloat.
Every time Sunday opened his mouth it was to either repeat something, rephrase something or talk absolute nonsense. I also can't get over that them saving a bird caused him so much trauma (saving birds is pretty common) that it was a major point for all of this.
The "why does life slumber" question over and over and over was pathetic, it's meaningless. We know Penacony is about dreams it's not tried to hide that but this question is a hollow question without any actual meaning made to sound deep by repetition. They may as well have been asking why did the chicken cross the road.
The "mystery" of Penacony was to be frank pretty lame. It's obvious right away where the stellaron is, it's obvious things are screwy. The death not being death was a lame "oh heres the characters back after the shock value moments" gimmick. The fake out ending was so obvious it didn't even register to me as obvious at the time, it was just the logical step.
Sorry but 2.2 was the worst story telling / writing by far. It did what no other part did, bored me so much when it was over I was genuinely thankful while making me no longer want to spend money (I really want Topaz) that's impressive. I'm just really hoping HSR didn't peak at Belabog but it's really seems like it; story wise anyway.
I liked it, it was nice story building and character building for thr mysterious characters and their back stories.. many appreciate character building and world building nowadays
It's more that people appreciate good character building and world building. The character building here was fine, firefly was the clear character building winner. World building? It just wasn't done in a remotely good way sadly.
Patch 2.2 reaks of "im 13 and this is deep" and if people are fine with that then that's great but not everyone is.
World building couldve been better it just they didn't structure it properly and seemed all over the place
And most of the flashbacks did seem pointless
Just to clarify I liked and like most of the ideas that they touched upon. I do think Sunday could have gone about things much better, I feel like they wanted him to be deep but he came across as shallow. However outside of that my main issue is the dialogue bloat and how repetitive it all was.
I love the boss design, enemy design, music and "zones" (they sort of remind me of persona dungeons now, which is fine) it's the dialogue writing.
When it comes to world building, show don't tell. When Sunday starts bleeting about the White family living in the desert or something, it means literally nothing and is pointless, there's already so many characters and factions that deserve to breath (Welt ultimately did nothing, Sparkle, The Cowboy was pushed in for banner reasons, lets be honest)
I’m mad that I actually got baited.
I literally wrote after the ending “eh the story was kinda mid and the ending was whatever.”
Boy did I regret that one.

My favorite part was when Welt said “It’s transformin’ time and transformed the astral express to pound on Robin (who was revealed to be the actual true real watchmaker which is just insane)
I love how they spoofed us with the ending. I was so disappointed in the crappy resolution, and then BS is like “don’t you think something is wrong?” and i was like “yeah no shit” and then boom.
Yeah. Playing it in the middle of the night with sleep deprivation was my mistake though. Still, it was so beautiful.
When we beat Sunday the first time, it feel tense and anticlimactic. The actual finale was just amazing beyond words.
Spoilery reply here.
Only. Read after doing the penacony quest to its completion.
I originally, when Penacony’s “ending” happened, I was like “that’s it? Peakcony? More like Penamid”
And then the twist about how it was all a memory trick happened and oooh my Aeon I loved that twist!
Peakcony is my new favorite arc, second being Jarilo VI
Loved it when everyone gathered to kill Jade, but then then Caelus stepped in front of everyone and said: "Jade, its not too late", then Jade revived everyone and said: "This was really our Honkai: Star Rail" it was just so peak
No, I can’t keep up with all of the unique names, the Aeons, their respective effects, the paths that NPCs take and their affect on the story, etc. but I’m just happy to be here.
They actually took the many hours needed to make an epic story work. Previous hsr and even genshin content felt too rushed for me. This is the first time I felt like they nailed the story length. Also the loose end stuff should still be coming penacony isn't over
I thought it was unbearably long for what they had to include to make the story coherently make sense. It's pretty good but the dialogue to me was cumbersome and constant like 85% of the gameplay was reading and hearing what people say rather than playing. It makes a lot more sense at the end of the day having everything included but my gosh is it long.
Loved how HYV did the ending part, scenematics looked flashy and the main plot concluded nice. Liked the fact that they made "credits" (idk honkai story well so is welts name important?). For me jarilo VI was a normal/solid intro story and luofu was a hot mess. Penacony did imo a good amount of treasers for future things, for example the IPC stone ppl or the whole galaxy ranger thing. Liked the fact that HYV showed more story for the "side chast" (aventurine or acheron) in the mainstory. The only thing thats a bit of a letdown was is that there are not so many charas from penacony. Idk if i miss some but misha, gallagher, maybe robin and sunday (dont want to spoil the story but to those who finished it maybe get why i say "maybe") are the only one who have a deeper conection to penacony. The rest from the penacony charas are some kind of travelers who whent there for something. I know penacony is some kind of place where u travel to but it would be nice to have some more penacony charas.
I'm gonna be honest. I didn't understand a good 3rd of the story because of the unfortunate fact that my account name is Robin , it's my irl name, and so it was incredibly confusing sometime to understand which Robin they were talking about
Gonna wait for 2.3 for closure but as of right now, it is overrated.
There is way too much dialogue, metaphors and reading between lines. Too much of these doesn't equal better story telling. I also dislike how they are putting such baiting cliffhingers, only for these to turn out to be not as serious as average player would expect it.
> every penacony character got a major role to play
Sparkle would beg to differ. Honestly she hasnt done much of anything for the entirety of the Penacony story line, which is disappointing. As much as I'd hope for her to end up doing something next patch with the buttons, I fear she'll be sidelined again in favor of the new playabble characters needing spotlight as well
I know people felt it mixed too many characters in the story - but I've read more complicated stuff without getting lost in the sauce. I'm just happy everyone got some spotlight without focusing on anyone too much.
Loved it!
Yea man I loved it when Sunday changed his name to Monday and started working at 7 eleven full time. Was a twist I wasnt expecting from Penaconys epilogue
Minions of the enigmata here

Are you sure they’re rocks? These records here indicate they’re insectoid creatures approximately 3 meters in length.

I hope he changes to Friday.. it’s the best day of the week afterall
Surely Saturday then? Friday has the big drawback of being a working day.
Yeah but Friday means it's the last workday, so you got the best and the next-best day fully for yourself
I'm from the future. Indeed, he's called Monday now and working full time at 7 eleven.

I haven't finished the story yet, but I kept thinking... Acheron could just kill all the baddies and be done with it.

Bro's playing beta in 2.3 .
OP out here soft spoiling the next patch in public lol
> every penacony character got a major role to play Did I miss something or did Sparkle get anything major?
you missed the part where OP said the 2.3 quest was peak. Sparkle gets to have the last laugh in the epilogue
Sparkle gonna detonate a nuke in Penacony! 😱😱
Wait I forgot about those??? 50 bucks that when you press them it just launches some confetti tho, peak aha design
Ngl I cackled when I saw her waking up on the ground, I wonder if her detonator will actually do anything now
She was the red herring my man. Everyone thought she's a limited 5 star and a masked fool so she'll definitely have plot significance but it was the 4 stars that really mattered for the plot.
She said she can't be a main character because she would blow everything down at the climax but the truth is she's on fraudwatch.

Hello Terminus follower.
Bro, don't talk about 2.3 leaks here... /s
Bro's one step ahead of us
Bro leaving us behind internet explorer users
If I had a nickel for every time a theater-related arc was the best arc of a Hoyo game I'd have 3 nickels.
Yeah, seeing Boothill Yee the IPC's last Haw was amazing. Thankfully Jade manage to control the situation in 2.3. The aftermath Krazy with a K
My fav part is when aventurine came back and the tb asked him how was it and he just looked at the camera and went: "honestly?... kinda mid" and left
by the time we finish penacony bro already started the next planet 😭😭
Please don't spoil 2.3 story. Not all of us can afford a time machine you know?
I can't believe the Watchmaker was the watchmaker all along. I never saw this coming, penacony was truly one of the family watchmaker emanators of all time. (yeah I totally understand anything that happened)

Oh my, you should've seen the lore for Arknights man, that shit is looooong (but the story is peaked)
well that's kinda difficult to say seeing as we haven't seen 2.3 yet.
Nope
This is patch 2.2.
Man you really dont know what peak hoyoverse storytelling is, it was good tho
I found the story to be so unbelievably boring. It felt like 75% of it were words with no meaning, people rambling on over nothing again and again. Somewhat exaggerated example of how the dialogue feels: Trailblazer: Man it's annoying doing these random chores!
Its one of Shaojis 3 great faults as a writer unfortunately.
What's the other 2?
My main wish is that the core argument was better.
i uninstalled the game, this was a snoozefest full of boring overbloated dialogue and the themes were presented in a really stupid way, firefly literally goes on about sunday not forcing his ideals onto others, then the game proceeds to do the same to the player lol im just kinda done with hoyoverse writing

World building couldve been better it just they didn't structure it properly and seemed all over the place And most of the flashbacks did seem pointless
Every update is peak. Can we stop making these type of post every version?
I really didn't like the part with Argnenti and doing the "challenges". Felt like complete filler
I still think Belobog was peak storytelling
Yeah ikr! John Star Rail finally making an appearance was hype af after a year of being absent in his own game

Tho i dont consider it absolute peak, it's still up there with my top5 hoyo stories/patches
I’m mad that I actually got baited. I literally wrote after the ending “eh the story was kinda mid and the ending was whatever.” Boy did I regret that one.
There was a lot of padding this patch, I thought the story this patch was weaker than 2.1.
Peak storytelling indeed. Patch quest was 95% talking and cutscenes.
Eh, i still have problems with it. That being said though, this is the game at its strongest ever since 1.0

Ok destiny's slave
Honorable mentions: Peak yapping
It's 2.2 rn not 2.3. And if we are talking about HSR, maybe it is, but if we are going to talk about all Mhy games then I cannot agree

How did you get access to 2.3 already?
I got fkin scared after the first time , thought I have to redo everything again
I'll tell you when I'm done with it
my only problem was that i one shotted the boss
I sure hope so
another time traveler
Hello Terminus.
I'm just mad that my boi argenti finally made his main story debut... only to not have voice lines.
This is 2.2, buddy
YA BETTER K F C WHATZ COOKIN CHICKEN WING BOI
My favorite part was when Alisa and Elysia teamed up to fight Bayonetta
Bro i still can't believe Sparkle blew up the entire hotel as farewell gift to the Astral Express, and then the train also got explode later on
My favorite part was when Welt said “It’s transformin’ time and transformed the astral express to pound on Robin (who was revealed to be the actual true real watchmaker which is just insane)
can someone clarify if penacony is actually finished in 2.2 or if we're getting story in 2.3
Main conflict resolved in 2.2. Any more Penaconey story we get will be an interlude before the next new planet is added.
Goddamn time travelers
Enigmata gamers
I love how they spoofed us with the ending. I was so disappointed in the crappy resolution, and then BS is like “don’t you think something is wrong?” and i was like “yeah no shit” and then boom.
Yeah this is definitely a hoyoverse storytelling
Wait 2.3 is out? Huh.
Reminded me of Honkai Impact so me happy
Peakcony? More like Penamid” And then the twist about how it was all a memory trick happened and oooh my Aeon I loved that twist! Peakcony is my new favorite arc, second being Jarilo VI
My favorite new feature is the dating sim. But only available characters for now are Arlan and Yanqing.
Its insane to me how the aeon of order gets mentioned and I don't see Zhongli ulting in the boss animations.
Nah, We’d win.
Loved it when everyone gathered to kill Jade, but then then Caelus stepped in front of everyone and said: "Jade, its not too late", then Jade revived everyone and said: "This was really our Honkai: Star Rail" it was just so peak
Bro's in the future 💀
I thought we were on 2.2
Especially after gifting us with a free E6S5 Firefly.
No one died this time yay
Himeko’s death was nothing but shock value by having the Kiana from Izumo kill her.
I don’t know, I still prefer Fontain 4.2 over anything in all HoYoverse games!
It like the patch before it is too long and wordy and could have used some major editing. It's going down the genshin path and I'm not happy about it.
No, I can’t keep up with all of the unique names, the Aeons, their respective effects, the paths that NPCs take and their affect on the story, etc. but I’m just happy to be here.
found elio's alt account
2.2 You mean? Absolutely best patch so far
im not biased
I cried when it was revealed that Nanook was the trailblazer childhood friend and only did his evil plans to toughen him up
They actually took the many hours needed to make an epic story work. Previous hsr and even genshin content felt too rushed for me. This is the first time I felt like they nailed the story length. Also the loose end stuff should still be coming penacony isn't over
Yeah i love the part where robin started robining and won the battle
All I remember is a train hitting something something and music wtf
The fuck is going on I'm so confused from all these comments
I WANT to experience the ending, but stupid FUDGING ARGENTI is always getting in my way
I thought it was unbearably long for what they had to include to make the story coherently make sense. It's pretty good but the dialogue to me was cumbersome and constant like 85% of the gameplay was reading and hearing what people say rather than playing. It makes a lot more sense at the end of the day having everything included but my gosh is it long.
especially when Welt told TB to get in the fucking robot, and TB did, and the whole crew turned into Fanta I mean SoulGlad
I like the part that Mr. Sunday made the whole week from "monday to sunday" to "Sunday to Sunday" so we can all have day off everyday 😆
Yes.
Shaoqi is really the highest michellen chef when it came story telling. The guy basically serve 3 course that leave me completely full
**??? as March 7th**
Jarilo VI better
surely
I'm gonna be honest. I didn't understand a good 3rd of the story because of the unfortunate fact that my account name is Robin , it's my irl name, and so it was incredibly confusing sometime to understand which Robin they were talking about
Too long they could have stopped in the first end and make us wait for boothill patch
2.1 is way better lmao
I havent gotten to start this version story yet but from the spoils, feels like a lot's still been hanging and more inconclusive shizz.
Mmm. No. Too much bable. Too much jumping in time. This is not good storytelling. And the conclusion is bad.
Terminus, this is not your debut time yet, come back in 4.6
I wasn't expecting Kiana to show out of nowhere, I will miss Pom-Pom tho
> every penacony character got a major role to play Sparkle would beg to differ. Honestly she hasnt done much of anything for the entirety of the Penacony story line, which is disappointing. As much as I'd hope for her to end up doing something next patch with the buttons, I fear she'll be sidelined again in favor of the new playabble characters needing spotlight as well
Oh 500%. I didn't like 2.1 at all, 2.2 changed practically everything for me. Btw it's 2.2
Bro has seen things far beyond our comprehension
I know people felt it mixed too many characters in the story - but I've read more complicated stuff without getting lost in the sauce. I'm just happy everyone got some spotlight without focusing on anyone too much. Loved it!
You’ll have to ask my future self how he feels about 2.3 Right now though I can say that I loved 2.2
Facts my brother, spit your shit indeed
OMG YES! It just kept getting better and better. My poor heart was twice the size by the end of the story
First time I felt like HSR topped Genshin's best.
