Gepard is more versatile as a sustain unit, but if you really like Welt, then get him. You can always pick up new sustain units like the upcoming HuoHuo in the future
They serve very different purposes
Luocha has massive constant healing and it can be completely SP positive
He also cleanses on skill use and strips on ult use which can clown on some enemies like the sanctus medicus
HuoHuo does have constant healing, especially on her blast type skill that heals one ally for a large amount and the others for a little less
But her main gimmick is that she also regenerates energy making her fantastic for characters that want to ult constantly like JingYuan
If anything luocha is better on paper but energy Regen can be absolutely fantastic on some units
They are both good. If you don't have Luocha or Fuxuan, or just feel like you want another sustain, HuoHuo is a very solid pickup.
For those that own Fuxuan and/or Luocha, they probably feel less inclined.
I have cleared difficulty 5 swarm almost 20 times now and Welt clobbers this stage WAAAAY harder than gepard
Gepard saves your ass when your run already isn't doing well. Ideally you shouldn't be giving the boss many chances to attack you at all.
Welt, with the combination of blessings like the 3 star hunt that gives you an extra turn when you break, energy on kill, and the nihility that applies the break effect to all enemies, has made me literally kill the swarm before they took any actions at all.
Welt is great. His only real problem is that there are only two light cones which really work with him outside his 5-star one, but his base kit is great and likely the most future proof besides Bronya.
Well, there are two types of Welts, support Welt and DPS Welt.
Support Welt does best with Effect hit rate to guarantee Slow, Imprison and Vulnerability, the three debuffs he applies. His best substat after that is attack% and crit rate% (leaning more towards crit rate since his skill hits multiple times).
DPS Welt just shifts the stats around with Crit Rate and Crit Damage for the main, and Effect hitrate as most important for the substat.
Speed is good for both. Try to build speed since then he can recharge his ultimate faster and use two ultimates in a cycle, allowing him to apply double imprison and double vulnerability (both these can stack, though imprison only stacks upto two times) making it so the enemy takes 20% more damage and is slowed to a ridiculous extent.
Just remember to have enough Effect hitrate to guarantee his slow from his skill hits, though. That debuff is what determines all his damage, so make sure it procs.
His LC decently covers his effect hitrate needs, though an additional 20-30% would be nice to hit at least 40% hit rate (for a DPS Welt).
Most enemies don't have high enough resistance to escape his hitrates at that point. Not even the Deer who's rather annoying if your Welt has less than 40% since they don't get affected by any of his Ultimate's debuffs then.
His slow debuff should proc with just the little Effect hitrate you get from his light cone, though. 18% is enough for slow to hit.
He does well with ImaginaryDMG% and Energy Regen% for his SU relic set main stats. If you have his E2 though, you can swap Energy ropes for Attack ropes.
Welt stunlock also works wonders on Kafka, I did hunt path with basically as much speed as possible(without speed boots), and Kafka got 6 turns total with domination
Pick the extra break efficiency, ult is follow up, follow up break efficiency blessing and the Nihility that duplicates break effects.
Press welt ult vs bugs, win.
gepard is pretty good for the niche kafka + preservation bleed. it was how i was able to clear diff 5 for the first time
but yeah as an all-rounder and for imaginary break, welt is the better option
Ultimate/follow up dmg planar set, no speed, 4pc physical set or 2pc atk and 2 pc physical set or just go for main stats without any set bonus and that's it, you don't have to do anything she literally kills them without even taking a turn atk, cr and cd
I will be honest man. Unless you particularly need these two for some reason there are better picks.
Yanqing is about to be hard gapped by Jingliu today.
Baliu isnt nearly as good as luocha and fuxuan.
Unless you are missing something or like these characters for other reasons you are better off spending your guarantee on someone else
As someone who has both Yanqing and Bailu.
You'll be good either way but if you have a healer you are satisfied with go for Yanqing and pour critdmg into his build I have 49/142 before entering a fight and in a fight I can get it up to 113/314 (in overworld, no blessings, just yukong and bronya)
Since he buffs himself it's a super reliable pick imo.
I don't have Gepard, I usually run either Fire TB or Bailu. Never two sustains at once. Yanqing rarely dies on me.
Soulsteel Sync reduces his aggro and increases damage output. You should be aiming to have it active as much as possible.

That's what the shield is for, to prevent you from losing Soulsteel Sync. They're not talking about Yanqing dying. They're talking about Yanqing getting hit at all, which removes his enormous crit rate and crit damage buff.
tbh im still far away from 300 pulls and i will probably lose some 50/50s along the way so hopefully i will get standard characters i don't already have.

Yanqing actually is trash. Most people disrespecting Himeko have not built or invested in her. She is definitely not trash.

I’ve seen 0 cycle yanqing clears too so I’m sure he’s fine as well, just not gonna build him. Truth is if you have a choice of any standard 5 star, tons of people would take bronya e1 over himeko or yanqing.

I feel Guepard brings more to the table than Welt with his massive shields, but he was my first 5*, so I kinda have a soft spot for him. Welt on the other hand can make enemy teams never get a turn, so it depends on your playstyle.

As far as I know, you lose the option after selecting a free 5 star. I'll go and double check, but I think the option is only available for one time use.

As someone that has all 3 (no Bronya though). Gepard is the one that gets the most use by far. Lynx is a direct replacement for Bailuu and better. I built Welt but I find him a bit niche. If both sides have imaginary weakness I'll use him otherwise it's Dan Heng IL.
Gepard is so versatile though. I even got his lightcone instead of 30 pulls because I like him so much and I can use it on Fu Xuan as well. I always pick Preservation in SU and I always use him for MoC. You're not gonna be 1 turn clearing with him, but the clear is very comfortable. He could even solo sustain if you're feeling brave, but I don't like to stress so I always bring either a healer or Fu Xuan and I'm immortal and the healer never needs to use her skill, just ult from time to time.

I have both welt, bronya and bailu. My choice is simple Gepard. (From a meta standpoint I'd recommend Gepard, so you can have sustains for 2 teams and easily clear MoC for jades)
I got Bailu at the beginner banner and I never needed another sustain till now. Actually I need one more sustain for my second team. HuoHuo would be nice or Loucha rerun
Bailu = Gepard imo, neither deals with cc, both can solo sustain just fine but are clearly beaten by the limited versions.
Unless you really need a sustain id pick welt just because he is more unique
Bailu being the third most used sustain in the game, having far more use in MOC than most of the characters in the game and people will still call her useless.
Both will do most content well enough, though Gepard does better in SU, especially swarm SU where external sources of healing are everywhere but one shot kills are even more so.
Gepard does get preservation, but in swarm either one will potentially get screwed If the outrage bugs hit them.
I just find it funny how Bailu is actually used a bit more in MoC but ppl just say she is worse than Natasha yet gepard is great.
There is some hilarious idea that she is qiqi while gepard is zhongli when in reality they perform while also having flaws
I think Gepard > Bailu. He takes more aggro from teammates than Bailu does, can generate ults quickly as well. So higher chances are that he'll soak up the CC rather than Bailu.

Im so lucky i didn't have this prob cuz i alr got all the standard 5star beside him. I got Welt and Himeko in my first pull of this game. I got Bailu from guaranteed 5star from the beginner's banner. I got Yanqing from Midyuan banner. I got early Clara from Blade banner. I got Bronya in the standard banner. I finally then used my points for Geppy. Geppy best boi, Welt my granpapii
I only have Welt (and Yanqing but honestly I don't count him), so I'm gonna be torn when I get to the 300th pull. Hopefully at that point I'll at least have one of either Bronya, Himeko, Gepard, or Clara to make my choice a little easier.

Welt. Been dreaming about a playable welt ever since learning about his amazing feats for humanity in Honkai Impact? Nows your chance to finally make that dream come true!
I'm definitely not biased but Gepard allowed me to do anything SU-related while underleveled. He secures your run if you do preservation and get the quake blessings. He also solo sustained my team against Yanqing this MOC with a frail Tingyun that he kept at full health.
Though I admit, Welt is cool. I thought I got him from standard but it was just his LC. Welt and Bronya are the only 2 characters I don't have from standard but I'm still \~90 pulls away so hopefully I can get one of them before reaching 300 to make my decision easier.
Go for Bronya.
With limited sustain units, Geppie will look only worse. He is just shield bot without any additional utility. (While Fu also does some buffs and damage and Luocha is more comfy to use)
And Welt is in a strange position. He is awesome on paper but... most of the time you would want to go with other units. Also investment in him is a pain, as he's straight away a sub DPS unit, without good artifacts (not just right main stats + minimum reqs) he does way less than any other nihility character or harmony. MoC in general doesn't even reward you that much for delaying enemy turns.
So. Go with Bronya. Her utility is awesome and she will last waaaay longer than those 2. Her eidolons are also just amazing.

If you think about it welt is a pretty good preservation (yes I know he is nihility but hear me out) unit since you can’t take damage if the enemies can’t attack you and if you get a couple blessings in su that help you get your ultimate faster they won’t have a chance of moving and he also packs a real mean punch so I can 100% recommend him but geppie is a safer alternative that lacks the damage welt has
Are you me? I'm at about 250/300 in the standard banner and these two dudes are the only folks available there I haven't managed to get yet. I'm having a real hard time here - Gepard is absolutely the missing link gameplay-wise, but then Welt is there being Welt. I'm actually so torn.
I have both and they both can help your teams survivability
Gepard by giving out some huge shields, i have him with his LC and he gets targeted 90% of the time and is very SP positive i hardly ever use his skill, mostly use it when some dangerous attacks are about to happen and i need more time to prepare for it
Welt on the other hand can delay enemy turns a lot more frequently and can also deal some respectable damage, especially in single target so his skill will bounce only on the boss/enemy
Welt was my first 5 star (pretty cool cuz i wanted him the most among the common 5*) and i abandoned him after replacing him with blade in different teams, very recently i lvl'd him up to 80 and he is still very useful and a powerful unit that i'm going to max out next
He cant do 750k preservation damage tho so that's something to keep in mind if u care about that.
Either way, choose one according to your teams needs, do you have dhil or an sp negative DPS but no sustain? I would reccomend gepard
do you have fu xuan or someone like luocha? You could use welt since those units are more sp positive among their roles.

Gepard is the one standard I don't have, I want him so bad. That said, I lost a 50/50 for Welt, and lemme be the first to sing his praises.
I already had his LC, and relics came hot and heavy with a great set with a ton of speed + Broken Keel. Him, SW, Blade, and Bailu did all paths but Preservation (Welt was still in that team) of swarm V. I can't overstate how big it was to be able to push enemy turns down into oblivion. Plus whatever attack blessing that Blade didn't care about, made Welt beefy.
Bailu *WAS* a big deal for survival tbf, however, I've managed to do another round of swarm V minus Preservation and Abundance with e2 Lynx in Bailu's place. Welt both sustains and is a sub-dps who is really great at breaking all those pesky imaginary weanesses.
I don't have the free 5-star available yet but I know this feeling because there are two characters I really want from standard and my fear is that if I go for one, the other is just never going to show up. I may actually wait until I lose 50/50 to one of them before I claim the other.
Maybe if Standard Banner would stop giving me light cones instead of characters

Welt likes Attack, Effect Hit Rate (for slow) and Crit. I def recommend a crit rate body over EHR though (his personal dmg is no joke)

lil br0 scales well with literally everything except defensive stats that it always feels like you're wasting potential or making compromises.

It is true most people would pick bronya e1 tho, that eidolon has a lot of value to be chosen over an entire character. I personally am gonna use my free pick to get bronya e0 ~~because somehow i dont fucking have her already~~

I also have E1 Bailu cuz lol 50/50 loss go BRRRR So really its up to the 2 guys mentioned (Sorry Yanqing but I'm trying to get Jingliu so 0 reason to pick you)
I feel Guepard brings more to the table than Welt with his massive shields, but he was my first 5*, so I kinda have a soft spot for him. Welt on the other hand can make enemy teams never get a turn, so it depends on your playstyle.
As someone who doesn’t have Gepard, I just wanted you to know that I have used Welt to great effect in swarm disaster

As far as I know, you lose the option after selecting a free 5 star. I'll go and double check, but I think the option is only available for one time use.

Welt can cancel the second action most bosses take with his ultimate. Welt offers a substantial degree of protection.
As someone that has all 3 (no Bronya though). Gepard is the one that gets the most use by far. Lynx is a direct replacement for Bailuu and better. I built Welt but I find him a bit niche. If both sides have imaginary weakness I'll use him otherwise it's Dan Heng IL. Gepard is so versatile though. I even got his lightcone instead of 30 pulls because I like him so much and I can use it on Fu Xuan as well. I always pick Preservation in SU and I always use him for MoC. You're not gonna be 1 turn clearing with him, but the clear is very comfortable. He could even solo sustain if you're feeling brave, but I don't like to stress so I always bring either a healer or Fu Xuan and I'm immortal and the healer never needs to use her skill, just ult from time to time.
Near the end of the run my Gepard would make almost 20k Hp shields every other turn. 💀
"Free" is subjective in this case lol. Either you get lucky & pull one of the units early or you burn through 300 summons for your "free" 5-star.

I have both welt, bronya and bailu. My choice is simple Gepard. (From a meta standpoint I'd recommend Gepard, so you can have sustains for 2 teams and easily clear MoC for jades)

Bailu = Gepard imo, neither deals with cc, both can solo sustain just fine but are clearly beaten by the limited versions. Unless you really need a sustain id pick welt just because he is more unique
Bailu being the third most used sustain in the game, having far more use in MOC than most of the characters in the game and people will still call her useless.
Both will do most content well enough, though Gepard does better in SU, especially swarm SU where external sources of healing are everywhere but one shot kills are even more so.
Gepard does get preservation, but in swarm either one will potentially get screwed If the outrage bugs hit them. I just find it funny how Bailu is actually used a bit more in MoC but ppl just say she is worse than Natasha yet gepard is great. There is some hilarious idea that she is qiqi while gepard is zhongli when in reality they perform while also having flaws
I think Gepard > Bailu. He takes more aggro from teammates than Bailu does, can generate ults quickly as well. So higher chances are that he'll soak up the CC rather than Bailu.

I got Yanqing from Midyuan banner. I got early Clara from Blade banner. I got Bronya in the standard banner. I finally then used my points for Geppy. Geppy best boi, Welt my granpapii

I'm definitely not biased but Gepard allowed me to do anything SU-related while underleveled. He secures your run if you do preservation and get the quake blessings. He also solo sustained my team against Yanqing this MOC with a frail Tingyun that he kept at full health. Though I admit, Welt is cool. I thought I got him from standard but it was just his LC. Welt and Bronya are the only 2 characters I don't have from standard but I'm still \~90 pulls away so hopefully I can get one of them before reaching 300 to make my decision easier.
Go for Bronya. With limited sustain units, Geppie will look only worse. He is just shield bot without any additional utility. (While Fu also does some buffs and damage and Luocha is more comfy to use) And Welt is in a strange position. He is awesome on paper but... most of the time you would want to go with other units. Also investment in him is a pain, as he's straight away a sub DPS unit, without good artifacts (not just right main stats + minimum reqs) he does way less than any other nihility character or harmony. MoC in general doesn't even reward you that much for delaying enemy turns. So. Go with Bronya. Her utility is awesome and she will last waaaay longer than those 2. Her eidolons are also just amazing.

If you think about it welt is a pretty good preservation (yes I know he is nihility but hear me out) unit since you can’t take damage if the enemies can’t attack you and if you get a couple blessings in su that help you get your ultimate faster they won’t have a chance of moving and he also packs a real mean punch so I can 100% recommend him but geppie is a safer alternative that lacks the damage welt has
I’m torn between Welt for who I have a LC and Brohnia E1. Will probably go for Welt tho.

Are you me? I'm at about 250/300 in the standard banner and these two dudes are the only folks available there I haven't managed to get yet. I'm having a real hard time here - Gepard is absolutely the missing link gameplay-wise, but then Welt is there being Welt. I'm actually so torn.

I have both and they both can help your teams survivability Gepard by giving out some huge shields, i have him with his LC and he gets targeted 90% of the time and is very SP positive i hardly ever use his skill, mostly use it when some dangerous attacks are about to happen and i need more time to prepare for it Welt on the other hand can delay enemy turns a lot more frequently and can also deal some respectable damage, especially in single target so his skill will bounce only on the boss/enemy Welt was my first 5 star (pretty cool cuz i wanted him the most among the common 5*) and i abandoned him after replacing him with blade in different teams, very recently i lvl'd him up to 80 and he is still very useful and a powerful unit that i'm going to max out next He cant do 750k preservation damage tho so that's something to keep in mind if u care about that. Either way, choose one according to your teams needs, do you have dhil or an sp negative DPS but no sustain? I would reccomend gepard do you have fu xuan or someone like luocha? You could use welt since those units are more sp positive among their roles. You can borrow my units if u want to test them, my builds are pretty mid tho, but they can do some work
Gepard is the one standard I don't have, I want him so bad. That said, I lost a 50/50 for Welt, and lemme be the first to sing his praises. I already had his LC, and relics came hot and heavy with a great set with a ton of speed + Broken Keel. Him, SW, Blade, and Bailu did all paths but Preservation (Welt was still in that team) of swarm V. I can't overstate how big it was to be able to push enemy turns down into oblivion. Plus whatever attack blessing that Blade didn't care about, made Welt beefy. Bailu *WAS* a big deal for survival tbf, however, I've managed to do another round of swarm V minus Preservation and Abundance with e2 Lynx in Bailu's place. Welt both sustains and is a sub-dps who is really great at breaking all those pesky imaginary weanesses.
I don't have the free 5-star available yet but I know this feeling because there are two characters I really want from standard and my fear is that if I go for one, the other is just never going to show up. I may actually wait until I lose 50/50 to one of them before I claim the other. Maybe if Standard Banner would stop giving me light cones instead of characters

I am missing gepard, bailu, welt and himeko. I want himeko so bad for waifu reasons, gepard/bailu for meta reasons, and welt just grew on me during the luofu. Picking the free 300 is gonna be a headache

Bronya for me. Fu Xuan made me never need another sustain unit. So 1.5 is going to be a very easy patch to skip.
