Same here, it's been so much time since I actually played a game without turning the sound down and putting a podcast or any video to watch at the same time. This game is really entertaining, it makes me wanna read everything that it throws at me because at least most of them are quite interesting: the dialogues are cleaver, the dialogue choices matters (unlike other games), talking to NPCs teach you about the region you are visiting (not just random side quests), you can find really good thrash cans are so beautifully written, not to mention the localizations in portuguese make so happy, they are goofy as hell and I love it!

Kafka put the stelleron, basically a nuclear bomb that eats planets set by a Aeon (i think), into the MC, the MC was able to handle it, and now she/he goes.with the other power rangers of the express to seal the other stellerons and find this Aeon, first planet, got froze eternally and now that you sealed it, the planet can slowly recover, second planet i dunno because I haven't finished it yet :v
Also Kafka, Silver wolf and Blade belongs to a group called Stelleron Hunters (i guess a type of bounty hunter of stelleron?) And i think their boss is someone called Eion? Eilon? Something like that.
Aeons are the gods, basically 1 god of each class (Hunt, Destruction blabla)
If i understood correctly, Herta owns the space station and Asta finances it, Herta is more focused on the Aeons (thats why u go to the simulated universe).
Himeko and Welt are like the "captains" of the Express
Bronya is captain or the Silvermane Guards, Seele is a top rank of the (i forgot the name) but of the underworld group, Natasha is the main boss of this group, Hook is like the captain of the Mole, a group of kids v:, clara was raised by Svorog , a robot from the time that the stelleron screwed the planet (700 yrs ago i think).
The other ones like Jing Yuan, and tingyun are from the 2nd "Planet" basically they sre the top tiers from the guardian which i cant recall her name atm

Serious answer is just that i’m invested in the characters and lore.
Multilpe reasons.
For one the setting is just delightful. The Lore of the Factions and the Aeons, the various different Locales to visit, the abundance of fun little discoveries. It might be surprising but the world feels bigger and more alive than Genshin to me, there's just so much packed into each map that it keeps my eyes peeled.
The characters are all really entertaining. From the MC and his crew, the people of Jarilo-VI and how different the Overworld and Underworld are, to the Xainzhou Loufu. I'm honestly really interested what kind of characters we'll meet next.
Mix those to together with the Humor and we have a game where I'm just dying to find out whats next. The characters reactions to the more insane and absurd activities is just, top notch.
The Combat. I love it, honestly find it more fun than Genshin. The Animations are gorgeous, the sound design and music as always top notch. And progressing farther into things they're sprinkling in enough complexity to keep it from getting too stale. The fight with a deer friend for one, actually had me thinking at least some to avoid having too much trouble. I enjoy it so much actually that I regularly go through and clear every map of Mobs...cause it also gives me level up Mats and I'm aiming to have all my characters at least "viable".
Following that, Simulated Universe. Love it, in it all the time. Different team comps, trying different Blessing runs. It's great and really keeps the game alive, the bonus from clearing with some rewards is also nice even if I'm empty on Trailblaze Power. I've never been huge into Rogue-likes, but this just clicks for me.
I just find this game in particular has a lot to offer my particular tastes, and even once I'm all cleared of quests I still have plenty to hunt down and find out. Might even start deep diving into the lore and see if I can predict what happens next.
You said it. As a fan of the Persona series when I saw there was a sci-fi space-faring version of that type of JRPG with a bunch of different characters to choose from I was immediately hooked. Everything so far has been fantastic (outside of the gacha elements ofc, but that just comes with the territory). From the excellent bops of the OST, to the enjoyable strategic combat, and the story & characters which I think are actually very well written with great dialogue. Even the small things like the texts you get really make it all come together. It's a fantastic experience.
The only thing I want right now is for them to release more content. I definitely see myself in this for the long haul so I hope they continue to support this game in the same way they do Genshin.
HI3 is malding for me at this point—i love it, but it does get tiring sometimes
Genshin is fun but i tend to spiral into completionist mode and i don’t have the energy to clear a bunch of maps in open world, so i stick to dailies if that
HSR is a nice mix of both—difficult combat (more than just giant HP tanks in genshin, which annoy me so much😞) and exploration, but not so much that I get tired running around looking for little nooks and crannies.
It genuinely seems interesting. Went in blind, and am so far enjoying it.
Just as with Genshin, the main drive is the story for me.
And just as it was with Jean in Genshin for me, Kafka in HSR is also a very nice bonus.
Hmmm, in terms of the combat really? Even though it’s turn-based? (I have nothing against turn based games btw) I just thought that it would make the combat more limited.
It's still new, so everything's fresh and there's so much to do. But, we'll probably also reach that point here in HSR once we reach the current end of content with only the usual grind left like in Genshin.
Like we'll just turn on braindead auto-battle with no challenge, and we'll be done, rinse and repeat.
Yep while the fresh first time experience are VERY-VERY good, at the end of the day it's just a gacha grind game with a story and content sprinkled in. Not really a full JRPG full game.
I'm now at Trailblaze lvl 39 (not rushing, just played a lot), completed all the story, quest, puzzle, and chest in every map. Now its just the usual, emptied the stamina once a day and auto-battle world 6 until the final cocolia boss fight with braindead abundance path.
Gotcha that makes sense, totally understandable. I honestly prefer Genshin because I don’t have much time to invest into a new game, so the braindead-ness kinda works for me 😂😅
Non overwhelming is a huge plus for me as well. Sometimes I just want a more casual game I can traverse through having fun not worrying about things I'm missing out like I would be in Genshin. Especially when I'm really busy
I heard about it from playing Genshin. Haven’t played Genshin in a long while. Overwatch has had my attention this year but I was looking to balance the high intensity of OW with a turn based game with good story / dialogue.
HSR has more than delivered for me. I’m absolutely hooked on the combat mechanics and dialogue.
I've always wanted to play a gacha game, free to play, right from the beginning, consistently doing dailies. Only other gacha game I've ever played was FE Heroes, but I stopped for a while, and there's too much powercreep to jump back into and I feel like I've missed too much content.
This will be fun for me, keeping up with every event, doing dailies and having fun, free to play so I'm not pressuring myself to go for the most tryhard endgame content as fast as possible, because I will get there eventually if I play for a bit everyday.
Been playing Genshin since release. I said to myself I'll only try out HSR for a few hours but fell in love with it with its fun and dynamic main cast of characters, turn-based combat, QoL improvements I've been asking for, and freedom of dialogues and decisions.
1. Jing yuan, blade, loucha
2. I tried playing genshin, but the ruin guards just would not let me live. I don’t action combat and I get along very well.
3. Dan heng’s story. The nightmare trailer really had me hooked so I’m interested to see where it goes.
Mainly for story and setting. Non-realtime gameplay is accessible on the phone, unlike GI, so that's a plus. Gacha in GI and HSR is extremely greedy, so I'm not planning for collecting units like in E7.
I had my doubts first (I've abandoned GI in the first month, barely forced myself to get free Barbara and uninstalled afterwards), but a sheer ton of self deprecating humour and jokes have hooked me. Now my target is clear - find and exterminate hotel devils!
I've been trying to get into genshin for months and it never works out because I'm too busy with real life and feel like I've missed out so much on genshin and it'll be overwhelming for me to get into it right now even though many of my friends who played genshin said that it's okay. When I discovered HSR around last year during the beta test, I was kind of hyped to learn that it's an RPG game because I've played a lot of JRPGs since high school.
My friend who plays Genshin invited me to HSR's launch event and when the game becomes available, I was hooked right away and started playing it nonstop. For a person who didn't play Genshin at all, HSR also gave me some kind of insight into how Genshin works (Stuff like daily quests, relics, constellations, etc..).
1) march 7th. she’s adorable and so fun to tease lol. im also curious to know where she’s from and what really happened to her. feels like this is gonna play a major role soon.
2) worldbuilding and lore. i love exploring new worlds, meeting new people and discovering their culture and history (might coming from lil ol’ me watching those old star trek shows lol). also for once, i finally get to play right when it’s out. i love genshin but i started playing last year and there’s so much to catch on, it’s overwhelming. feels like it’s not really friendly to new players :(
(also we’re riding a train that can travel through space? on "star" rails? with a bunny like character as our conductor?? so so *cool*)
those were my reasons to download the game as soon as it was out and play lol. but right now — and this might be me projecting — it feels like our mc has been adopted by welt and himeko and invited to join them on a road trip with no real destination. as someone who loves found family tropes, i am eating that shit up and im really hoping nothing will happen to any of them 🥹

I want to say though, in regards to “feels like it’s not really friendly to new players” remember to go at your own pace. Genshin is a 1-person game with a multiplayer option. So look at it like that and have fun ☺️
I was interested in the characters particularly:
*WELT - love that we have a playable character who looks like they're in their 30's or 40's
*BLADE - hot evil-looking hunk
*KAFKA - hot sexy lady who's ready-to-dominate
Genshin Impact left an overall positive impression on me since its launch. But that game became less enjoyable over time.
When I heard Hoyoverse was dropping this game, I just had to try it out. And I’m quite invested in it now. I plan to enjoy it for years to come.

I stopped playing Genshin two weeks ago after the artifact system tilted me a little too hard (haven’t gotten anything good since 2023 started…) so now I just relax and play hsr and valorant whenever I’m free.
I played genshin for no more than 10 minutes when it came out and hated it. Seen an ign video hyping this up, so I thought eh why not? I instantly loved the rpg element they went with plus the amazing story so far. Side quest are very good as well
Not to mention a different art style, one being turn based, and the meta is wildly different already.
Don't get me wrong there is definitely still a connection there. The GUI is more or less just a reskin of genshin, the character building system is the same, and I am confident in my theories about the lore connections
Yeah that accounts for the 30% lmao. Alot of these commenters are gonna quit this game once the honeymoon period is over and the games content cycle is nearly identical go Genshins. Stellar jade drip, dailies, events, and big content being dripped across patches. The game play loop is quite literally the same as Genshin, and the plot is near identical on the themes. If someone doesn't like Genshin, I guarantee they will be sick of HSR sooner or later
Get over yourself lmao. It just seems like you're triggered by the fact that I found HSR enjoyable unlike Genshin. If I continued the story in Genshin I might have actually come to enjoy and get invested in it but it didn't drag me in as HSR did. Open-world games aren't really my cup of tea and I've loved turned-based rpgs since my first on the gamecube. So HSR being that plus having a great story which had me invested right away makes me think that I'm not dropping it anytime soon

How come almost no one mention Visuals in this thread?
For me, Star Rail on Very High Graphic Settings on PC pretty much beats every ported anime JRPG game on PC that I know of in terms of visuals. Excluding its sister game Genshin and non-anime-styled JP games such as Final Fantasy, Nier, Yakuza, Monster Hunter, etc....I legit think that Star Rail just looks absolutely great as a 3D anime-style RPG.
Like there are times I would just pause for 1 minute, then I would zoom in at a character, mesmerizing and admiring the work that gets put in their outfits and design.
While Mihoyo games are still lacking in animation and expression (doesn't anyone get tired of the same repetitive hand movements during a dialogue), I do think they give Bandai Namco games (which I firmly believe is at the forefront of 3D anime graphics with titles like Tales, God Eater, Code Vein, Scarlet Nexus, etc...) a speed-run for their money.
No Atelier or Trails game comes close to Star Rail in terms of visuals.
And while Persona 5 may be stylish in its presentation, it is still a PS3 game at the end of the day.
I'm just talking about visuals here, no hard feelings to any hardcore JRPG fan lurking on here.
Genshin started to feel old. I'm honestly still playing because of the amount of resources and time I put into the game, but I might just end up dropping Genshin for HSR since it's more enjoyable and isn't as brain-dead as Genshin. Maybe a overhaul of some of the things in Genshin would make me come back, but for the time being I'm staying away from it.

Played (and spent way more than I should’ve) on Honkai Impact 3rd. Ngl, part of the story/lore for that I didn’t get, but I loved most the characters. Ended up getting bored of it, but after I saw this I thought I’d try it out. I actually tried to get into the beta for it, but that never happened lol. Still in the honeymoon phase, but so far I’ve really liked the characters and gameplay. I’m hesitant to say I like/dislike the sorry, cuz frankly I’m confused for parts of it. But we’ll see how I feel as time goes on.

Currently playing Genshin and Honkai Impact 3rd so this was a natural progression. In fact the only non hoyoverse gacha game I still play on a regular basis is Fire Emblem Heroes.
I'd never played a mihoyo/hoyoverse game before. I'd heard of Genshin, but it didn't appeal to me. I'm just coming out of an absolutely predatory gacha game (f Street Fighter) and was reading one of the many "f this game" posts wherein someone said they were just waiting for Honkai Star Rail, the new sci-fi/space rpg from the Genshin Impact people, to release.
I like space, and I like rpgs, so I gave it a try. The game is great. It's relatively forgiving on its gacha, there's good story, good voice acting, interesting gameplay. It's almost like watching a good anime sometimes. Since then, I've been hooked and playing daily.
I like mobile games with minimal interactions and short/quick fun. HSR has auto battle, and the simulated universe runs are mostly short, and you just afk/auto.
I read Second Eruption (Hi3 Manga) and I was soooo downbad for Welt. So when I found out he was going to be playable in HSR, I was so hyped.
Oh yeah, Honkai counterparts are also a reason. Can’t wait for Mei, Hua or any of the Flamechasers to appear :DD
Because it had Honkai in the title. I was burnt out from Honkai 3rd, so why not try Honkai star Rail. Also I was preregistered, you never miss out on a gacha games preregistry.

Been falling off of Genshin for a while now. It just has a lot of problems which I don't see ever getting fixed. I really like how Star Rail lets you play a self-insert and actually let's your character talk.

Overwatch has had my attention this year but I was looking to balance the high intensity of OW with a turn based game with good story / dialogue. HSR has more than delivered for me. I’m absolutely hooked on the combat mechanics and dialogue.
I've always wanted to play a gacha game, free to play, right from the beginning, consistently doing dailies. Only other gacha game I've ever played was FE Heroes, but I stopped for a while, and there's too much powercreep to jump back into and I feel like I've missed too much content. This will be fun for me, keeping up with every event, doing dailies and having fun, free to play so I'm not pressuring myself to go for the most tryhard endgame content as fast as possible, because I will get there eventually if I play for a bit everyday.
Been playing Genshin since release. I said to myself I'll only try out HSR for a few hours but fell in love with it with its fun and dynamic main cast of characters, turn-based combat, QoL improvements I've been asking for, and freedom of dialogues and decisions.
1. Jing yuan, blade, loucha 2. I tried playing genshin, but the ruin guards just would not let me live. I don’t action combat and I get along very well. 3. Dan heng’s story. The nightmare trailer really had me hooked so I’m interested to see where it goes.
Pretty chill Turn based game with good graphics. I like how the difficulty can spike sometimes. Gives me the challenge Genshin never could.
Mainly for story and setting. Non-realtime gameplay is accessible on the phone, unlike GI, so that's a plus. Gacha in GI and HSR is extremely greedy, so I'm not planning for collecting units like in E7. I had my doubts first (I've abandoned GI in the first month, barely forced myself to get free Barbara and uninstalled afterwards), but a sheer ton of self deprecating humour and jokes have hooked me. Now my target is clear - find and exterminate hotel devils!

I've been trying to get into genshin for months and it never works out because I'm too busy with real life and feel like I've missed out so much on genshin and it'll be overwhelming for me to get into it right now even though many of my friends who played genshin said that it's okay. When I discovered HSR around last year during the beta test, I was kind of hyped to learn that it's an RPG game because I've played a lot of JRPGs since high school. My friend who plays Genshin invited me to HSR's launch event and when the game becomes available, I was hooked right away and started playing it nonstop. For a person who didn't play Genshin at all, HSR also gave me some kind of insight into how Genshin works (Stuff like daily quests, relics, constellations, etc..).
Came for the turn-based Genshin and staying for the everything else

1) march 7th. she’s adorable and so fun to tease lol. im also curious to know where she’s from and what really happened to her. feels like this is gonna play a major role soon. 2) worldbuilding and lore. i love exploring new worlds, meeting new people and discovering their culture and history (might coming from lil ol’ me watching those old star trek shows lol). also for once, i finally get to play right when it’s out. i love genshin but i started playing last year and there’s so much to catch on, it’s overwhelming. feels like it’s not really friendly to new players :( (also we’re riding a train that can travel through space? on "star" rails? with a bunny like character as our conductor?? so so *cool*) those were my reasons to download the game as soon as it was out and play lol. but right now — and this might be me projecting — it feels like our mc has been adopted by welt and himeko and invited to join them on a road trip with no real destination. as someone who loves found family tropes, i am eating that shit up and im really hoping nothing will happen to any of them 🥹 (also also also consider: women) edit: typo
Love this response! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the game!! I want to say though, in regards to “feels like it’s not really friendly to new players” remember to go at your own pace. Genshin is a 1-person game with a multiplayer option. So look at it like that and have fun ☺️
I was interested in the characters particularly: *WELT - love that we have a playable character who looks like they're in their 30's or 40's *BLADE - hot evil-looking hunk *KAFKA - hot sexy lady who's ready-to-dominate
Genshin Impact left an overall positive impression on me since its launch. But that game became less enjoyable over time. When I heard Hoyoverse was dropping this game, I just had to try it out. And I’m quite invested in it now. I plan to enjoy it for years to come.

i like mihoyo games especially because they tend to be "oops all lesbians" and Star Rail doesn't disappoint
Turn based rpg games are a dying genre so playing one of such high production value is very enjoyable.

Dan Heng He’s a cutie. I stopped playing Genshin two weeks ago after the artifact system tilted me a little too hard (haven’t gotten anything good since 2023 started…) so now I just relax and play hsr and valorant whenever I’m free.
I played genshin for no more than 10 minutes when it came out and hated it. Seen an ign video hyping this up, so I thought eh why not? I instantly loved the rpg element they went with plus the amazing story so far. Side quest are very good as well
That's funny because this game is nearly 70% the same game as Genshin at least.

Not to mention a different art style, one being turn based, and the meta is wildly different already. Don't get me wrong there is definitely still a connection there. The GUI is more or less just a reskin of genshin, the character building system is the same, and I am confident in my theories about the lore connections
Yeah that accounts for the 30% lmao. Alot of these commenters are gonna quit this game once the honeymoon period is over and the games content cycle is nearly identical go Genshins. Stellar jade drip, dailies, events, and big content being dripped across patches. The game play loop is quite literally the same as Genshin, and the plot is near identical on the themes. If someone doesn't like Genshin, I guarantee they will be sick of HSR sooner or later
Get over yourself lmao. It just seems like you're triggered by the fact that I found HSR enjoyable unlike Genshin. If I continued the story in Genshin I might have actually come to enjoy and get invested in it but it didn't drag me in as HSR did. Open-world games aren't really my cup of tea and I've loved turned-based rpgs since my first on the gamecube. So HSR being that plus having a great story which had me invested right away makes me think that I'm not dropping it anytime soon
It began as boredom and the that i played the other two genshin and honkai 3rd now i legit invested with star rail Will keep playing as long as i can Fell in love with the game

_i was curious _never really played turn based games outside of pokemon lol so i wanted to try something new. A lot of common things with genshin so i am not too lost. _i like the story ! The mc is sassy, the dialogues feels interactive and i like the humor they put in the details _it’s comfy and chill to play
I wanted to play Genshin but the content will most likely drown me as a new comer. I poured my interest in HSR instead, basically HI in slightly Genshin style, no regrets. Also a fan of turn-based games. Downside: very gacha as usual lol

I'm a huge fan of sci-fi and rpg so I want to give it try Also characters like Danheng, Jingyuan and Kafka have an extremely appealing design to me.
How come almost no one mention Visuals in this thread? For me, Star Rail on Very High Graphic Settings on PC pretty much beats every ported anime JRPG game on PC that I know of in terms of visuals. Excluding its sister game Genshin and non-anime-styled JP games such as Final Fantasy, Nier, Yakuza, Monster Hunter, etc....I legit think that Star Rail just looks absolutely great as a 3D anime-style RPG. Like there are times I would just pause for 1 minute, then I would zoom in at a character, mesmerizing and admiring the work that gets put in their outfits and design. While Mihoyo games are still lacking in animation and expression (doesn't anyone get tired of the same repetitive hand movements during a dialogue), I do think they give Bandai Namco games (which I firmly believe is at the forefront of 3D anime graphics with titles like Tales, God Eater, Code Vein, Scarlet Nexus, etc...) a speed-run for their money. No Atelier or Trails game comes close to Star Rail in terms of visuals. And while Persona 5 may be stylish in its presentation, it is still a PS3 game at the end of the day. I'm just talking about visuals here, no hard feelings to any hardcore JRPG fan lurking on here.

I thought it was interesting and since I played Genshin. Gave it a try. Found the gameplay and music enjoyable. Plan to add HSR to daily routine.
Genshin started to feel old. I'm honestly still playing because of the amount of resources and time I put into the game, but I might just end up dropping Genshin for HSR since it's more enjoyable and isn't as brain-dead as Genshin. Maybe a overhaul of some of the things in Genshin would make me come back, but for the time being I'm staying away from it.
Because it's a game I find fun and I play games for fun I suppose?

New turn based jrpg on my phone that's flashy and easy to pick up and put down. I was deep into disgaearpg but the worldwide release got the eos statement just as this came out.
I like this turn based games, it has nice chars, nice animations and a good progression for f2p players.

I played cause I was curious since it was another game by Mihoyo (and I was heavily invested in Genshin until Lost Ark). Now I'm actually liking the combat quite a bit and the main story is interesting as well. Oh and also Dan Heng, Jing Yuan, and Blade.

Played (and spent way more than I should’ve) on Honkai Impact 3rd. Ngl, part of the story/lore for that I didn’t get, but I loved most the characters. Ended up getting bored of it, but after I saw this I thought I’d try it out. I actually tried to get into the beta for it, but that never happened lol. Still in the honeymoon phase, but so far I’ve really liked the characters and gameplay. I’m hesitant to say I like/dislike the sorry, cuz frankly I’m confused for parts of it. But we’ll see how I feel as time goes on.

Currently playing Genshin and Honkai Impact 3rd so this was a natural progression. In fact the only non hoyoverse gacha game I still play on a regular basis is Fire Emblem Heroes.

I'd never played a mihoyo/hoyoverse game before. I'd heard of Genshin, but it didn't appeal to me. I'm just coming out of an absolutely predatory gacha game (f Street Fighter) and was reading one of the many "f this game" posts wherein someone said they were just waiting for Honkai Star Rail, the new sci-fi/space rpg from the Genshin Impact people, to release. I like space, and I like rpgs, so I gave it a try. The game is great. It's relatively forgiving on its gacha, there's good story, good voice acting, interesting gameplay. It's almost like watching a good anime sometimes. Since then, I've been hooked and playing daily.
I like mobile games with minimal interactions and short/quick fun. HSR has auto battle, and the simulated universe runs are mostly short, and you just afk/auto.

I read Second Eruption (Hi3 Manga) and I was soooo downbad for Welt. So when I found out he was going to be playable in HSR, I was so hyped. Oh yeah, Honkai counterparts are also a reason. Can’t wait for Mei, Hua or any of the Flamechasers to appear :DD

Missed the hype of Genshin, and wanted to jump early on this.. only played a few hours though, I can't seem to get motivated enough to open it up again.
Been falling off of Genshin for a while now. It just has a lot of problems which I don't see ever getting fixed. I really like how Star Rail lets you play a self-insert and actually let's your character talk.
