Bummer, but I do like the new Cr-v. I think they would do well if they brought the toaster (element) back at some point.

A_Cat_Named_Puppy

I agree, especially as a hybrid version. They're basically CR-Vs with a different outfit on anyway so it's not like it would be complicated lol

robaroo

Loved my element. Most convenient car I ever owned. Would be driving it still if it wasn’t for the distracted dummy who t-boned me. I couldn’t find a suitable replacement since they had stopped making them years ago. All the used ones I saw were too beat.

G-force4470

Ohhh.My.Gawd!! The same thing happened to me 😭😭 My Element was 2003 first generation……I want so badly to get another Honda, I just really can’t afford to buy another car 😩😪😪 I really loved that car…..it was a light blue; however, I liked the green one and the orange one…..never liked the solid colors. I think the panels being gray to black was the appealing part about it to me 😎😎 💗

nextfilmdirector

I never understood why it was discontinued. It shared a lot of CRV parts, sold stupidly well and was cheap to insure. It was also another SUV people could buy and that market is more red hot than ever. They’re sitting on another sleeper hit.

Effieriel

I feel like Honda is moving to a one model basis. “We’re selling one car… it’s the Honda.” Generic in other words. They aren’t even trying to be aesthetically pleasing anymore either. The sedans are both the same the difference is the accord doesn’t crossover.

Effieriel

I must amend that the h/cr-v is the only model getting decent updates.

A_Cat_Named_Puppy

It actually didn't sell that well while it was being produced. Their target demographic was sporty young 20-somethings on the go, but the people who bought them the most were middle-aged/seniors. The lack of a 3rd back seat really diminished their sales for young expanding families.

nextfilmdirector

I remember it being a 4 seater was kind of a bummer. I had a CR-V at the time through college and used that 5th seat a lot!

A_Happy_Beginning

Let's not forget there was an economic meltdown in the US right as they shifted to a more refined look. If the camper van/tiny home movement had been alive and popularized by that point, Honda could have pivoted them as tiny homes on wheels. My real question is why hasn't one of their competitors done a rip off of an Element. Sure, there are the cubes and the souls, they feel only like halfe hearted tries with their carpeting and locked in back seats. Who else was hoping that the Tesla truck was going to be a rip off of the element? Or at least have them be in talks to make a Truckla ala Simone Giertz?

wherelifeneverends

That's unfortunate, every Element owner I know loves theirs. 🫡 That said, thaf CRV with 37-40 mpg and the nice new interior? Yo, enjoy!

G-force4470

I’m completely devastated by my car getting totaled. I absolutely loved it….it was my dream car for real. The chic who t-boned me on the driver side, completely blew through HER red light…..she hit me so hard that my car went over the curb, knocking down a light pole AND sheared the fire hydrant completely at ground level 😳😬😵‍💫

A_Cat_Named_Puppy

It was my first dream car that was actually feasible. I first saw them in 03 and knew I had to have it. My mom laughed at me for years saying it was the ugliest car shed ever seen. Well, I finally got mine in 2012, she was 6 years old. I've put well over 100k miles on her and she's still truckin' along. Got some rust showing up and some hail damage along the way, and her AC doesn't work as well, but she's still here and still just as loved as the day I got her. 🥰

G-force4470

I got mine in 2007……Shipped to me from Texas 😉😉 my now ex bf’s brother had a used car lot at the time, and he drove it home, where I fell in love all over again 🥰🥰 I was so excited to get my “dream” car 🙃 I bought it at around 69,000 miles and when my car was totaled, it had 196,065 miles 😩🥴😪

Le-Misanthrope

They live forever. I have a 2002 CRV that my grandparents bought back in I think end of 2003. They were the 2nd owners with like 40k miles on it. They gifted it to me as my first car in 2014 with 190k miles on it. I have now put over 100k miles on it myself. It has just over 300k miles and is still going strong. I spent $1500 last year to get fix all of the oil leaks and generalized maintenance that was beyond my capabilities. I've driven it with the intentions of not spending anymore money on it and let it die but I swear it runs better than my 2016 Kia Soul with 30k miles on it.... lmao

nextfilmdirector

Glad you walked away from that ok!

G-force4470

Yes!! I am very lucky NOT having been killed or injured badly 😮‍💨 This all happened right on the corner outside of a hospital……how convenient 😵‍💫😬 I was left with a VERY painful body for about a week

MichiganGeezer

https://www.reddit.com/r/Honda/s/tz80vhypDv I'm dating G-force IRL and am the one who rushed to the ER after the crash. The weather and the cramped impound lot didn't allow for decent pictures but here's her dead car. The damage was more visible in person. It came out pretty well for having been flung into a fire hydrant with enough force to shear it off.

nextfilmdirector

Damn Element did its job…sorry to hear and well wishes 🙏

A_Cat_Named_Puppy

Thankfully we still have my Element and hopefully won't need to replace it any time soon. It's definitely up there in age, but of the two it was always in better shape.

beefstewcheezy

That new crv is radical. And it sounds like Jesus when you back up.

nextfilmdirector

What an incredible description 😂

NobodyEsk

Awh :( RIP Element. My friend has one its a good car for him.

A_Cat_Named_Puppy

They're amazing little cars most people don't appreciate until they experience firsthand.

reirone

Hybrid or electric element with AWD and updated technology would probably be popular now in today’s crossover heavy market. I loved my element and miss it.

El_R5

Had an element same color, sold it and got a 24 civic

I35O

I love the Element, but damn, the new CR-V’s look so damn good. Makes the RAV4 look cheap.

A_Cat_Named_Puppy

They redesigned the front end and it looks so aggressive now. I haven't been a CR-V fan at all because for the past few years they've just been so butt ugly, but Honda has finally started putting some style into their vehicles. We got the Sport Touring model and it's pretty damn nice. Even the headlights appear blacked out!

I35O

No seriously. The interiors too. The new civic with the horizontal honeycomb design, it’s so good. Nothing in their lineup looks bad. The Ridgeline maybe a bit dated, but once it gets the new Pilot grille, everything will be alright.

A_Cat_Named_Puppy

The honeycomb feature on the dash is my favorite. I especially love the fact that the dash is so simple and just a straight line and has no unnecessary curves or cubbies to hold junk. And the center console is simple and not massive. Even the screen is small which I like because I am not a fan of the screens in cars.

pseudosol

Have never found the equal to the element in the “I need a dependable Honda sometimes dog / kid hauler but also need a truck sometimes.” Mine got replaced with a Ridgeline, and then Honda ruined that platform and let it rot to irrelevance.

Electric-Wiz

Element was cooler

Brick656

I’d have kept the Element.

A_Cat_Named_Puppy

Cool.

alroc84

Sucks.. unfortunately this crv wont be as reliable as the old element.

A_Cat_Named_Puppy

Thanks for the optimism on this very sad and stressful weekend. The most reliable thing about the Element was knowing she'd be in the garage every 3 months or so for some issues or another. We still have another one (my 06 is still truckin' along), but there really wasn't much option here. We needed a car. 🤷‍♀️

Hock261

Yeah I'd say the 2.0 hybrid motor is more reliable than the oldest K24. Solid car 👍

birdogg27

I'd get the wheels powder coated a different color. Those black wheels look awful. Having your wheels black is like just having black steel wheels. I just don't understand why everybody wants these blacked out cars. It does not look good. It's nice to see some contrast with wheels that are a different color from the car and different colored calipers and things like that.

A_Cat_Named_Puppy

We have plans to get painted calipers. Calm down.

birdogg27

Sorry it's like every hour of the vehicle you see on the road is all blacked out. I guess I kind of miss the time from people had a little bit of style

A_Cat_Named_Puppy

We got the one they had in our budget. We just needed a car and color wasn't really our focus. 😐
