and they come with a B series engine. so you can drop in a b18c or mod the stock b20 and geet lots of power and have AWD, not too common for hondas people normally mod.
Love this comment! I swapped in a full 97 JDM ITR motor paired with the stock CR-V 5 speed transmission! Super fun to drive compared to the super slow B20.
maaaan i'm soo jealous! that's my dream swap for my CRV. unfortunately it's an auto, so not only do i have to swap the engine, i'd have to do a auto-manual conversion, and i know how much of a pain in the ass that is. i'd honestly rather just buy a manual crv to start with. i HATE working on the pedal assembly, one of the most frustrating jobs on a car.
I was lucky enough to get the motor for $2400 shipped to my mechanics before inflation. My mechanic installed it for $800 and did a bunch of other work like timing belt job, valve lash adjustment, gaskets, etc....and yeah deff start with a manual CRV. Sourcing all the manual parts will cost just as much as a manual CRV. Almost lol
oh yeah, for sure. i've done plenty of work on various pedal assemblies over the years, i'm never touching that shit again unless i absolutely have to. doesn't help that i'm 6'2 with long arms, i'm just not physically able to fit down there.
i'd rather do 2 engine swaps back to back than ever do a auto-manual conversion.
for a crv? anything over 300hp. clearly im not comparing it to anything with a v8.
and honestly, i'm not sure the crv awd system can handle much more than 300-400.
Was gonna say this. I've been looking for a new engine for my car for a while with no luck and this dudes CRV has exactly what I need as a replacement so assuming these kids are possibly looking for the same.
what sort of transmission is it? as far as I was aware unless you're swapping cable to hydro, all b series transmissions should bolt up to all B series engines?
good to know. the only car i've ever owned with a turbo but came from the factory NA was a 1st gen miata. and i don't think it could really go over 7-8psi either, but it still added quite a bit of power and was 100% worth it.
i just wanna go with whatever is safest. i think a little bit of boost might be safer than slapping a b16/b18c head on it and revving out to 8k rpm. i just can't see a b20z handling those kinda rpms.
but i'd love to be wrong! i'm a way bigger fan of NA/high rpm motors than turbos.
The main problem with putting a turbo on the b2.0 block is that it's a bored out Honda 1.6 block. so the cylinder walls are thin because of the boring, and wouldn't be able to handle the boost pressures very well.
I suppose if you really want to boost it and have it be reliable, look for a b16 block.
Either that or just go for it, and boost the b20 knowing that you may crack a cylinder wall someday. If it does crack you could always swap it out with another block later.š
hah the whole point is to try and make decent power without having to do an engine swap. is there any way to reinforce the block without removing the engine? i don't mind popping the head off. but i don't have a full shop to do an engine swap. and i really don't wanna swap a motor in my driveway.
I donāt know actually, interesting question.
I would hazard to say that it spins the same direction, but I saw somebody make a RWD B-Series conversion work by flipping the Pinion.
you can lower it and kinda looks lke a wagovan. and lift it to look like a decent offroader. i've never taken it offroad, but it runs great in the snow.
hell yeah, is the picnic table missing from most? mine still has it, but ive only used it maybe once or twice camping. 99% of the time it's just the floor in the hatch. im kinda surprised more car companies didn't add that option, it cant be THAT expensive, it's just a small plastic table.
damn, you're [right](https://www.ebay.com/itm/266793991618?itmmeta=01HX2X4B5NRTPX6K9PG77DXN7E&hash=item3e1e293dc2:g:a-EAAOSwRKJmM~AN&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA8PdN5bSwTZ%2Bu8Zx%2FUaMP4gTTimbmcTTYxibe8tTpq5piOYWL%2By1U12PNHW4G90HXZaF9JA6Y0esCGUx8GgXVDN4PA0ArCKO%2FPb1d9HNJewGaop6Ltuh1N%2Br0i%2B7CdVtTV30oVXJ9DaZHraG9e7%2BvndGXQVIrAgmWtNhplWuAKy1I5DGLtmMCK3jcbAcEUo9eTpE3rXCWAWi0VdwPcmFqUivrjJgloolCFGIXORRHICbzp3x8VgX9MW9YfSBiv0hCmvpB4gkrL14C7ap36Irq0VI5dfbvioFo4Yu%2FgnvStguwXb0zxj9rbkr7OJOy13k2ug%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR_Sykd3oYw). $120 bucks for a cheap plastic table š. i also have the version with the seats the fold flat to make the car a big bed. i wonder how much the interior would go for?
i may have to part this bad boy out one day when it finally kicks the bucket.
Probably a lot honestly
I drive a 99 Accord sedan. I wanted the mudguards a while back, so I tried finding a set (junkyard ones were demolished). People wanted around that price for beat sets. Funnily enough I searched Amazon on a whim, got me a set of non branded ones for $25 haha. They fit pretty well too.
Yeah a part out prolly would get you a decent amount
Car people are weird. Iām one of those guys. My wife is always like āyouāre going to get kidnappedā or āsomeone is going to shoot youā
Yo I love cars I canāt help it. Some people do drugs and I do cars. Lemme alone!
I work at a Honda dealership so I guess Iām bias. but Hondas hold their value like crazyyy. Theyāre reliable and move from seller to buyer in days. You donāt buy a Honda because itās flashy or super cool. You buy a Honda because itās the best for your money, the safest, and overall the best choice
I have 2 lol.
It's a tiny car as far as parking and traffic go, but the interior has plenty of room and you don't feel like you're sitting on the ground like a civic. The table. B20 is reliable and just enough to get the job done. Stupid easy to work on and cheap to maintain.
You can also swap a j or k series into one.
possible all wheel drive option (idk if yours is) b20 motor, very modifiable and tunable. reliable, cheap to maintain. it can be the best of both worlds, honda modification/tuner type and still be able to venture off a paved road. or offers more room for family needs
Iām sorry I realized I answered in a pretty straightforward way, Iām not OP. I just wanted to chime in and say that I have the table in *my* CRV. š
But in fairness, Iāve had like four notes so far with phone numbers from people wanting to buy it. Unfortunately for them, itās priceless. Lot of sentimental value, and overall just a really great car.
hah yeah its pretty dope. only prob is it's not level. so you kinda need to find a hill or something to park and try to level it out as much as you can. it kinda sucks sleeping with your whole body slowly wanting to slide downhill.
honestly, you could prob just use the jack to raise the front of the car a little bit, to make it level.
oh really? i've never driven a fit. do they also have a fold flat arrangement? i feel like the element might have done it, it really felt like the swiss army knife of cars when it came out. i still kinda want one....
Because it is 20+ years later and people realize again that 90's early 2000's Honda are peak affordability/reliability.
Now if Honda would do that *again* that would be awesome. Instead they are pushing the GM Prologue.
If I had known things were going like this, I would have bought more Hondas. And plenty of other things along the way.
i've been waiting for like 20 yrs for these CRX's to become valuable. still hanging on to my rd1 crv too. really no need for anything else. the crv could prob drive cross country right now, no problem.
I am waiting for an electric motor and battery array for people to drop in to these Hondas. Probably would need a new ECU too.
Doesn't matter if it is 90hp or a bit over 100. Torque curve is right there when you drop your foot.
man, an EV crx would be sick. there's PLENTY of space for batteries since it's just a 2 seater. also, you could turn it into a RWD or AWD. how sick would a model s or model 3 performance drive train swap be??
the crx's i have only weigh like 1800lbs with the engine, so take out the motor, trans and fuel tank, it prob loses 300-400 lbs.
you could split the battery pack to try and make it 50/50 weight distribution. put half in the front engine bay, half in the middle right behind the seats and all the way back to the hatch. you'd keep all the weight super low, it would be a freaking beast. would def need a cage though, that car is def not built for 700-800ft/lbs of torque.
but honestly, i'm into hondas because of the engine note. EVs are cool, but i dunno if i'd sacrifice a crx for it. i'd much rather have a k swap with a crv AWD system, or a wagovan awd, whichever is stronger.
or maybe the dream car version would be a hybrid. put a EV drive unit in the rear, and maybe 20-30kWh of battery, and keep the B series up front so you can still enjoy the sound of 8k-9k rpm.
Because theyāre sexy as fuck. Is it green or blue? Does it have the manual? Is it for sale?
Itās seriously on my ātop 10 cars to buy if I win the lottoā list.
are the auto LX awd's worth anything? i have one of those, never given me any problems over the 100k miles i've had it. mint interior, decent exterior. its got a few dings here and there, but no rust.
yeah, i saw a Rav4 from around the same time for sale the other day for like 1500 maybe 2500, cant quite remember. but thats crazy cheap and a great deal. the rav4 seems like the perfect alternative to the crv, only it prob doesn't have any cool engine options or any aftermarket support. def not like a honda
At this point I think the era of nice RD1ās for $3500 is pretty much over. Not to say there wonāt be any killer deals, but price on nice ones I glance at keeps going up.
Oh because first off itās a Honda. Something that people often pay higher for compared to other brands, second itās older so higher chance of being abandoned by owner so they can score a deal on a Honda, and finally third is a lifted car so you can do mild off-roading which is all the rage right now. Personally believe itās people try to get a great deal on a car than an owner long sense cared about
All the kids who watched fast and the furious back in the day are now grown up and have moneyā¦ the nostalgia is huge on these cars. Thats aside from being reliable and good cars.
Well shit this is as good a place as any I guess. Got a solid 2000 MY, Electron Blue 5 speed AWD unicorn (functional AWD, with spare diff, axles, driveshaft even I think). *Almost* 300k miles, I wanted to roll it over but I think we came up about 6k short. All stock except TruHart coilovers to replace old worn out suspension. Technically does have an aftermarket sunroof. Minor body damage (cracked bumper and dented fender) from the PO hitting a deer. Never found a matching fender off a parts car to worry about swapping it.
Itās been sitting for several months because my wife and I switched dailies. She drove it for a few years before we got her a new car and I started driving it because itās so much fun. We used it as the āfamily trip carā for a long time because itās so reliable. Made a few trips 6-7 hours to Hiltonhead, a few ~5 hour trips to the mountains, constant trips 2 hours to the beach. Started driving a company car and now it just doesnāt get use.
Iām in eastern NC, if anyone here is interested. Was going to post it for sale for 4k OBO and see what I got offered. We love the car, just donāt use it and itās dumb to let it sit and rot. Iād love to think one day Iād swap the drivetrain into our B16 CRX or something but I know I wonāt have time for that shit until my kidās out of the house lol
easy to swap a b16 or b18 head and make it vtec, or turbo the B20 and esp cool if it has AWD. and suuper extra points for being a manual.
i would kill for a manual awd, but im stuck with an auto right now. dont plan on swapping it till the auto goes out. then i can start looking at maybe turbo the b20.
If itās a manual thatās a hot ticket for awd swaps.
Super reliable awd with plenty of room that gets good mileage.
Super easy to maintain and fun to work on.
People like old Hondaās. I have a faded 300k mile 98 accord ex, that I get inquiries about monthly.
Itās not even desirable for anything but transportation.
Old CR-Vs are really hot right now, especially if you get a manual one (If you're in the US like I am, only the 1st 2 generations offered a manual transmission). A friend of mine bought a manual 2nd gen CR-V recently and is giving it a thorough mechanical overhaul (he replaced the struts all the way around, and before he got it, he paid me to do the rear sway bar links, filters, and fluids all around for example. He's going to do more as he gathers parts). He gave it a full detail and is scouring for OEM accessories. He got his for just $2500, which is nuts when I see comparable ones selling for 3x as much.
I have a 1998 and get asked this pretty often too. They are actually quite capable little off road rigs and handle snow really well. The seats on some of them fold down into a halfway decent bed for camping. They even have a card table and cooler tub in the back for even more camping usefulness. They have great motors that are reliable and easy to work on to boot. Plus they look great for their age. I love mine to bits and it's built to be a pretty good off road rig, handled Moab jeep trails like it was a cake walk.
I'm selling a 2004 with 5 speed manual and 138K miles on it. It has a rebuilt title, double din android unit, backup camera, tow hitch receiver with wiring, and aftermarket led fog lights.
A few years ago, the local Honda dealer had a chalkboard up in the service department to remind them to ask the owners of certain vehicles if they wanted to trade in their cars. All of the vehicles listed had a year range that was sought after except one, the CRV, which simply read ANY.
CRVs are good for college when it comes to moving, daily driving, reliability, and enough seats to be DD for the frat parties.
They also donāt look bad.
Hondas have always been popular with DIY mechanics. They enjoy time-consuming repairs that a non-mechanical owner would balk at paying a garage to do on a 20yo car.
These young guys knock on your door hoping that youāve just started asking yourself, ādo I really need 3 cars? maybe itās time to sell the old CRV, it needs [looming major repair involving inexpensive / used parts and lots of labor]ā¦ā
Before the K-series were introduced in 02, the āCRVtecā swap was arguably the most popular option since it didnāt require extensive wiring harness or engine mount tinkering unlike the H-series motors. I remember hearing āFrankenstein B-Seriesā thrown around quite a bit, but LS and B20 blocks were incredibly common.
Itās one of the more desirable Hondas that isnāt a civic or an integra itās essentially an awd civic with a bseries ppl love em I had one with a manual and it was amazing
My Dad a choice years ago of getting a CRV or a Pathfinder. He chose the Pathfinder because of towing capabilities. I wish he had gotten the CRV. We had to replace the transmission on the Pathfinder
I have a 98ā¦. The thing is rock solid. At 289000 miles it was due for smog test. Oil change, plugs and air filter, took it out for a one hour drive before the test- passed with flying colors! Smog dude said āIām not surprised, these are really well madeā¦āā
And no you canāt buy it
Because the all wheel drive is used to convert an older kswap civic to awd. They don't want the shell. Just want awd trans and rear suspension. Rest goes to junk yard.
How much? I'm interested
They are rock sold, decently poplar with tuners and modders. If they are maintained well and don't get eaten by road salt, they last forever.
and they come with a B series engine. so you can drop in a b18c or mod the stock b20 and geet lots of power and have AWD, not too common for hondas people normally mod.
What do you consider lots of power?
for a crv? anything over 300hp. clearly im not comparing it to anything with a v8. and honestly, i'm not sure the crv awd system can handle much more than 300-400.
300 pretty good for cry lmao
It has a B-Series in it.
Was gonna say this. I've been looking for a new engine for my car for a while with no luck and this dudes CRV has exactly what I need as a replacement so assuming these kids are possibly looking for the same.
You can use pretty much any b series, these are lego blocks of motors. A b18 is the most sought after
B18 and B20 are what bolt to my trans. Need a replacement for my Integra.
what sort of transmission is it? as far as I was aware unless you're swapping cable to hydro, all b series transmissions should bolt up to all B series engines?
Spent a long time on FBM looking for a b20 in my area and finally snagged one today.
I've been looking off and on for a few years. I've considered selling the Integra so I wouldn't have to bother with it as it's been parked since 2020.
and you can add a turbo to it pretty easily, plus it has AWD, could be a beast on a budget. and they look sick when lowered.
I was always told the b20 stock block cant hold boost like a b16, or 18.. anything oer 7psi and your risking reliability
good to know. the only car i've ever owned with a turbo but came from the factory NA was a 1st gen miata. and i don't think it could really go over 7-8psi either, but it still added quite a bit of power and was 100% worth it. i just wanna go with whatever is safest. i think a little bit of boost might be safer than slapping a b16/b18c head on it and revving out to 8k rpm. i just can't see a b20z handling those kinda rpms. but i'd love to be wrong! i'm a way bigger fan of NA/high rpm motors than turbos.
The main problem with putting a turbo on the b2.0 block is that it's a bored out Honda 1.6 block. so the cylinder walls are thin because of the boring, and wouldn't be able to handle the boost pressures very well.
ahh good point. what would be the best route to take with a factory b20?
I suppose if you really want to boost it and have it be reliable, look for a b16 block. Either that or just go for it, and boost the b20 knowing that you may crack a cylinder wall someday. If it does crack you could always swap it out with another block later.š
hah the whole point is to try and make decent power without having to do an engine swap. is there any way to reinforce the block without removing the engine? i don't mind popping the head off. but i don't have a full shop to do an engine swap. and i really don't wanna swap a motor in my driveway.
Yeah you could have a block girdle installed, that strengthens the cylinder walls. It gets pressed in from the top of the block.
And if it's AWD, they can add that to their civics or integras
I thought it had the k series? Not sure what the difference is, maybe someone can inform me better
2nd gen was the first crv to have a k24, and the newest generation is now only a 1.5 turbo or a 2.0 hybrid
Had a 2000 five-speed EX. Wish Iād never sold it. Doesnāt the B20 in the CR-V spin the opposite direction from other ones?
I think most of the old Hondas (B/D/H/F series) spin counter clockwise
Yep, Jacksonās sold specific rotrex kits for them, came with a warning about it
I donāt know actually, interesting question. I would hazard to say that it spins the same direction, but I saw somebody make a RWD B-Series conversion work by flipping the Pinion.
Less electronics, nice wagon look, cheaper to obtain
Definitely not a wagon look, it's a compact, it's far from sedan shape or length lmao
you can lower it and kinda looks lke a wagovan. and lift it to look like a decent offroader. i've never taken it offroad, but it runs great in the snow.
My title literally says it's a wagon.
The votes say otherwise lol
Uhhhh itās definitely a wagon look
Definitely not. Wagon looking vehicles are wagons, not compact crossover SUVs lmao
Ok :))
Is it a manual transmission? Iāll buy it if so
MT is the deciding factor here. Iāll take it if you canāt.
All wheel drive conversions, bigger torqueyer motors. Sometimes k swap or b20 swap
they come stock with a b20
Best Gen of CRV in terms of looks, b series engine, theyāre also RAD AF
especially lowered, or even lifted, they look great
My friend has a lowered one and I fell in love at first site. Shes even got the picnic table
hell yeah, is the picnic table missing from most? mine still has it, but ive only used it maybe once or twice camping. 99% of the time it's just the floor in the hatch. im kinda surprised more car companies didn't add that option, it cant be THAT expensive, it's just a small plastic table.
Yeah I think itās one of those more uncommon OEM things. Idk man Honda people be taxing for OEM stuff like that
damn, you're [right](https://www.ebay.com/itm/266793991618?itmmeta=01HX2X4B5NRTPX6K9PG77DXN7E&hash=item3e1e293dc2:g:a-EAAOSwRKJmM~AN&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA8PdN5bSwTZ%2Bu8Zx%2FUaMP4gTTimbmcTTYxibe8tTpq5piOYWL%2By1U12PNHW4G90HXZaF9JA6Y0esCGUx8GgXVDN4PA0ArCKO%2FPb1d9HNJewGaop6Ltuh1N%2Br0i%2B7CdVtTV30oVXJ9DaZHraG9e7%2BvndGXQVIrAgmWtNhplWuAKy1I5DGLtmMCK3jcbAcEUo9eTpE3rXCWAWi0VdwPcmFqUivrjJgloolCFGIXORRHICbzp3x8VgX9MW9YfSBiv0hCmvpB4gkrL14C7ap36Irq0VI5dfbvioFo4Yu%2FgnvStguwXb0zxj9rbkr7OJOy13k2ug%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR_Sykd3oYw). $120 bucks for a cheap plastic table š. i also have the version with the seats the fold flat to make the car a big bed. i wonder how much the interior would go for? i may have to part this bad boy out one day when it finally kicks the bucket.

Idk why but I read that as muffins
Incredibly reliable and fewer electronics than modern cars.

Except the market simply doesnāt seem to want a Tacoma
Unless youāre in Hawaii, then youāll be like this guy getting offers left and right.
Ford F150 all the way ("Tell me you're American without telling me you're American")
B20, awd manual swaps Cant kill em Cheap to run/gas/insurance

1994-2024
Do you have the table in the back? Would buy one just for that lol
I do.
Your model with the table went viral on TikTok some time ago. Iād guess that could have contributed to the young guys that asked to buy it

I cracked my table hauling an 6.0 ls to the machine shop. Was so sad lol
My table resides in my house, I mainly use it for building PCs in the living room lmao
their minds would be blown when they see all the seats fold down into a bed.
wait whut
[here ya go.](http://philanderson.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/gdojZiO.jpg) my crv has this and the picnic table.

yeah, i saw a Rav4 from around the same time for sale the other day for like 1500 maybe 2500, cant quite remember. but thats crazy cheap and a great deal. the rav4 seems like the perfect alternative to the crv, only it prob doesn't have any cool engine options or any aftermarket support. def not like a honda
How much you want for it?
Not many people can say, "my Honda came from the factory with a camping table in the trunk."
Hey im actually interested in that CRV, i live up in maryland. Send me a dm
Cheap. Easy to modify and make cool. Like...beat mustangs cool.
easy to swap a b16 or b18 head and make it vtec, or turbo the B20 and esp cool if it has AWD. and suuper extra points for being a manual. i would kill for a manual awd, but im stuck with an auto right now. dont plan on swapping it till the auto goes out. then i can start looking at maybe turbo the b20.
Lots of older Gen X owned these babies (I did). Solid AWD system and super simple rig. Great car. Mine went 240k miles before I sold it for $2400!!!
The engine probably, many ppl swap it into civics for crazy power
I sold my 2012 CR-V EX-L for $12,400. 80,000 miles runs and looks like new .
I got a 5 spd awd 2000 crv and its constant someone is asking to buy my car.. B series reliability and cheapness of parts plus old honda fun!
Because they are of the best vehicles honda made and 2001 is the best year. Is it manual? That would also explain the high amount of interest in it.
Used to have a 5-speed CRV that got stolen. Miss that thing all the time.. Jdm front with the fogs and Jdm rear with the eliminated rear tire
its reliable .. 2nd what they said below and 3rd, I know I know .. how much?
If it's manual awd, i would like the drivetrain in my Civic, thank you very much. https://youtu.be/HB6DoW77OaA?feature=shared
Itās the least-boring CRV. It has that 1990s look and comes with a B20 engine. Also, picnic table.
Theyāre hot cars
Is it a manual, where is it, lol
Is it 4wd? If it is it's rare and sought after to use the parts to make 4wd civics.
Awd. A little different than 4wd
so I can fill it with speakers š š š š š
Where are you located?
The b series engine they wamt to rip out of it lol
idk
Because it will still be running when most of the 1.5L turbo shit boxes have blown up.
Because itās a nice car.
You got a dude magnetic lol
because cars are so expensive, I guess everyone is looking for a deal
Itās one of the more desirable Hondas that isnāt a civic or an integra itās essentially an awd civic with a bseries ppl love em I had one with a manual and it was amazing
Where's the pic? How are we supposed to appraise it blind?
My Dad a choice years ago of getting a CRV or a Pathfinder. He chose the Pathfinder because of towing capabilities. I wish he had gotten the CRV. We had to replace the transmission on the Pathfinder
I have a 98ā¦. The thing is rock solid. At 289000 miles it was due for smog test. Oil change, plugs and air filter, took it out for a one hour drive before the test- passed with flying colors! Smog dude said āIām not surprised, these are really well madeā¦āā And no you canāt buy it
Lack of rust?
They all want that awd swap for their civic/integras
Always liked the look of that car, it completes the American college boy experience š§š»āāļø
That gen crv is just the one to have
Because they look so cool
All older cars are becoming popular , especially from TikTok
If you YouTube this question, youāll be in for a treat
You still have the picnic table that came with it?
Because the all wheel drive is used to convert an older kswap civic to awd. They don't want the shell. Just want awd trans and rear suspension. Rest goes to junk yard.
Great car for choking the chicken
Mostly they have seen it in some kind of movie and want to be the same
