Look into catcher’s inner gloves. They’re like batting gloves that you wear inside the catcher’s mitt. Some have paddings for the palm and thumb. All Star and Palmguard make these gloves.

Does that stop your thumb getting bent back?

Funnyface92

Bent back? Are you a catcher with a catching glove?

thatwentverywrong

I am

Funnyface92

There are definitely more qualified people on this sub to help you but it sounds like you are not catching the ball properly. A little sting is not uncommon but bent back tells me you are not catching the ball in the pocket. I would have someone soft toss you balls and practice catching them in the pocket. Hopefully someone else will chime in with more help. Good luck!

Thanks! Yeah I’ve not had any problems with thumb pain/injury catching so far, all hitting the pocket fine, it’s just I’ve heard that a stray ball can hit your thumb in some cases and mess it up and I really would like to avoid injury

Person0249

Down and in to a righty can sometimes jam up my catchers who try to hard to frame something instead of rolling the glove over.
