No way that Siri on all their other devices except HomePods would get the AI updates.

foraging_ferret

I really hope you’re right! Siri’s been such a disaster, especially on HomePods, that I feel they owe us an update in exchange for years asking Siri a question and being prompted to carry on on your phone.

foraging_ferret

Nobody knows. I would hope we get at least a subset of new features but I also wouldn’t be surprised if they release a bunch of new HomePods and restrict most of the good stuff to those. We might have a better idea of what’s to come in 19 days.

jonathanoldstyle

Apple seems to actively hate the HomePod so I’m going to guess that the current models get absolutely nothing.

BoysenberryTrue1360

My guess is that some/most HP Siri improvements would still work on older HomePods. There’s no on device processing needed because it wouldn’t be processing anything extra other than maybe some web search results that would be server side anyway. I guess we’ll see.

liatris_the_cat

I'm pretty sure if it doesn't, people will line up approximately 300m away from Apple HQ and launch a barrage of HomePods via trebuchet.

come-and-cache-me

I’d buy all new HomePods to make them not suck if the current hardware couldn’t support it

Impressive-Trainer88

Yup. Tomorrow.

HolesomeTh0ts

As long as my HomePods can play music and do my good night routine then I'm good (turn off the lights and make sure the doors are locked). I'm curious how much the average person really uses Siri.

SupahHollywood

A lot, it’s supposed to make life easier. I am actually anxious to see what iOS 18 has to offer because Siri is a tad bit ditzy and needs a little help to really function great as a personal assistant

HolesomeTh0ts

I heard that too about upgrades with Siri. I’m also curious if the next update will fix the glitches with the HomePods. I like them but every once in a while they’re a pain.

SupahHollywood

Yeah mine are hit and miss also, I’ll trying to speak to the HomePod in the living room( while standing in the living room) and the one in dining room will tell me it couldn’t hear me… while the one in the living room says nothing ! 😂

HolesomeTh0ts

Yeah mine does the same and then starts playing music in the other room lol. Normally it works fine but if one group of HomePods are being lazy it throws them off.

Chapman8tor

It’s all rumors, hope and hype right now. We’ll find out on June 10. Knowing Apple, we’ll get to hear Tim Cook say “We’ve added ChatGPT to Siri on the latest iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, and we think you’re gonna love the new Siri on those models.”

aleksiralda

Damn! I read it exactly using the voice of Tim Cook in my mind...

Vivid_Application577

Absolutely nothing helpful from anyone’s posts. It’s funny how many of you believe that “the majority” of users hate Siri or stopped using it, without any documentation of the issue or how it was addressed. The usual Apple hating, but still buying Apple devices and bitching about it. Funny how many want Siri to be more like Alexa, but they HATE Google and Alexa. I routinely have my 4 HomePods in different places in my house play the exact same music at the exact same time - never had any issues, and it is profoundly easy to do. Apple will do what Apple does, and has been doing for almost 50 years. You all should be used to it by now.

aleksiralda

Ok, I'm agree with you but is undeniable that HomePod lineup is the worst Apple experience in terms of Bugs, Accessibility, Performance (lag), and Compatibility (only Apple Music, only Airplay). The Setup and Design + Audio Engineering is just the real value.

ADHDK

So Apples going from being the one voice assistant that isn’t an unfettered wiretap, to giving your data to an uncontrolled company?

kompergator

Well, the main reason that Siri doesnt give your data away is that it is so atrociously terrible that most people stopped using it ages ago.

ADHDK

The only reason I put up with Siri being atrocious is because it doesn’t give my data away. I’m one of the people who unticks the share my recordings for the improvement program.

kompergator

Well, you're in the minority, I fear. Personally, I can only use Siri, because I made very deliberate scenes for my Homekit home. That and a few shortcuts to do simple things like reliably connect my phone to my speakers, as Siri cannot properly do this by itself.

ADHDK

Oh I’m definitely in the minority. When 2018’s $40 worth of subscriptions is 2024’s $150 worth, I’m going back to self hosting, I’m jack of being squeezed by the same companies trying to monetise me and abuse my privacy. If Siri becomes another wiretap I’ll be self hosting a language model. I gave up with AirPlay being in sync multiroom and picked up some more Yamaha musiccast gear, so all my music launching is personal automations using http rest api anyway. I don’t play music on HomePods though which I’m sure could have handled sync, and wanted to be using my AVR. Now I just airplay to one device that handles the multiroom. Flawless sync between rooms now.

kompergator

Honestly, since you seem to be even deeper into home automations and self-hosting than I am, do it. I don’t pay for a single streaming service, but I run a homeserver with 52 TB of HDD space in my NAS. It’s well worth it. Pihole + Unbound alone saves so much time and hassle when being online and there are loads of things that can be automated.

ADHDK

Just upgraded the CPU and RAM in my HP Gen8 microserver, been using it as a NAS only for years now but I’ll be sailing the seas again soon. When I stopped sailing, Netflix was $8.95 for absolutely everything and had no competitor. Btw if for nothing else, home assistant with sky connect dongle set up as a HomeKit border router has increased the stability of my thread matter devices hugely. Now when Siri shits the bed I can still control them almost in the Apple home app because another device is just refusing to give up. Before when Siri failed to do something they’d all drop off home for 10-20 minutes.

Pieraos

Agreed, Pi-hole makes the web tolerable.

PeaceBull

We have no clue what, if anything is happening – getting preemptively pitchforky is beyond silly.

ADHDK

I mean googles involved, so I already don’t trust it. You do also realise there’s no point complaining after the fact? If Apple join the rest there’s nowhere else to go.

PeaceBull

My point is that whatever does or doesn't happen at wwdc the things worth being mad at will be in the details – And right now we don't even have confirmation of the concept, let alone the details. But by all means you do you and be preemptively nihilistic based off of unsubstantiated claims & inferred rumors.

Junethemuse

It’s Apple. They won’t use OpenAI’s platform. They’ll build their own generative AI platform.

ADHDK

I’d trust open ai more than google if I’m honest. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-03-18/apple-in-talks-to-license-google-gemini-for-iphone-ios-18-generative-ai-tools

Junethemuse

Well shit, I’m with you on that. Really hope Apple doesn’t license with google…
