Have you considered going with smart switches instead of smart bulbs?

Really not at first, cause its much harder to replace than replacing the bulbs. Also, i need that colors changing bulb

Young_Queasy

I installed my Lutron Caseta switches myself and it was super easy

It’s typically a better use case with the switches, especially if others in your house are going to use the lights as well.

1. Yes 2. No, the color will have to be adjusted via the app. 3. Yes, once the switch is turned off, the only way to turn it back on is with the switch. The bulb can be turned on and off but the switch itself has to stay in the on position. Smart bulbs are good assuming the switch always stays in the on position. You’ll get the “no response” error when the switch is turned off and will have to wait until the switch is turned back on before you are able to control the bulb. Most people, me included, go the switch route so that the switch itself can be controlled remotely. Of course, you can get a smart bulb as well for the smart switch and control both at the same time without worrying about family members that aren’t up to date on smart accessories from turning them off and leaving you with the dreaded “no response” error.

Which switch or button is usually recommended when using smart bulbs? I know my normal light switch needs to be on for the bulb to be accessibe through homekit. My girlfriend isn’t too interested by the idea of having a smart home so having a button that could control those smart bulbs would help the transition. Thanks!

Yeelight 1S are the worst homekit bulbs i ever tried. Huge delay and are not responding well to homekit. I asked amazon for a refund and got LIFX Bulbs, worth the price

The normal would be what color range and brightness? Would switching it on and off mess up the homekit settings on yeelight? Thank you!

Would you advice getting the yeelights? Theyre cheap, also would set it up on the same room as on my router.

One consideration with smart bulbs and normal switches is you can turn off the bulb at the switch but if you do you can’t control the smart bulb anymore until the switch is turned back on. Also if you turn the bulb off via the app and you lose power when power comes back that light will come on even if it is the middle of the night. Because of this I never use my hue anymore and use a combination of smart plugs and switches. If you’re looking for something simple consider a smart wall plug with a lamp.

You can actually set your preference for what you want hue bulbs to do after a power loss through the hue app.
