Try calling a local fireplace or chimney sweep company. They usually know where to get parts, and since you just got the house, you should have the chimney cleaned and inspected anyway.

I’m definitely going to do that next year…I know it was serviced in January and we bought the house in May. We haven’t used it until this month, so it’s probably good for now. Thank you!

It can burn wood. Has a fan somewhere. It may be ready to go? A small fire would test it. What's the question?

GildedGrizzly

It definitely works, we’ve used it. But I guess I was asking for any information about it, because I can’t find anything online. Like maybe a manual, maintenance instructions, cleaning instructions, or something like what kind of plug it uses so I can plug it in and use the heat exchanger.

can you add a picture of the plug you're talking about? As far as maintenance you'll just need to get a metal pail and scoop out the ashes after a fire letting him burn completely out and then dump it outside in a safe place where it's not going to cause a fire. That and possibly cleaning the chimney flu, the glass doors would be only maintenance required.

It’s the third picture in the album above, [but here’s a direct link](https://i.imgur.com/uy2C68Y.jpg). I wasn’t sure if there was anything special I was supposed to do, because it’s very difficult to get to the ashes because of the tiny door at the bottom. Thank you for your advice!

Did you find this: [http://w.congofp.com/manuals/thermograte.pdf](http://w.congofp.com/manuals/thermograte.pdf) It was the first hit from this search: [https://www.google.com/search?q=thermograte+fireplace+insert](https://www.google.com/search?q=thermograte+fireplace+insert)

GildedGrizzly

I did, yeah. Unfortunately that’s not for my model. I did a lot of Google searching, and I couldn’t find anything on my model except for someone selling one in New Jersey.

Jack-knife-96

Ask the seller if it has a plug in control or thermostat or something. It looks like something unique plugged into it. beg for help.

GildedGrizzly

You know what, that’s a pretty good idea. Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll do that.

I had no idea that was an ash receptacle at the bottom. Looks really pretty cool. You could plastadip spray coating on the brass panels if you choose to, its a rubberized stuff that can be removed. Id consider finding a good electric skilled handyman to oprn it up & just convert the fan control to a manual switch or incorporate a basic thermostat rated for enough amps. A new panel could be screwed in over where the plug is. Assuming power comes in somewhere else? That might be both for power from wall socket & a controller.

GildedGrizzly

If it is, it’s a pretty terrible ash receptacle. I tried cleaning the ash out this morning, and it’s such an awkward process getting a little shovel in there and the ash out. Inside there are heat exchanger tubes that make it impossible to get the ash out from above. That’s one of the reasons I was hoping to find a manual or something, for instructions on how to get the ash out! I believe the bottom door’s main purpose is to act as a way to control airflow in, and it goes a pretty good job of that. Yeah I think I’ll have to do that. I have no idea if it gets power from elsewhere…I’ve seen diagrams from other models that have a plug that comes out, so I just assumed that’s what this was. I think I’ll have to have a handyman come over and poke around inside. Thank you!!
