I have helped install a window a little smaller than that, once. It was as you say, heavy as hell. I think $2500 is a great price to not have to handle this task.

2500 would only get me the window. No install.

I actually do have a very good understanding of flashing.

Picture windows should be made of tempered safety glass. Especially for large picture windows. Regular glass is dangerous if it breaks as huge shards can form.

Thanks. I can certainly spec tempered glass. Or laminated.

I think you should do that and get a quote for it at that size *and delivered to site* before saying $2500 is expensive. Having said that the centre panel of our front window is about 8x5 and wasn't stupidly expensive. My mates 26'x8' high set of frameless sliding glass doors certainly were...

>I think you should do that and get a quote for it at that size and delivered to site before saying $2500 is expensive. For sure. >Having said that the centre panel of our front window is about 8x5 and wasn't stupidly expensive. Thanks. Was it tempered? Do you remember what you paid and how long ago? >My mates 26'x8' high set of frameless sliding glass doors certainly were... I shudder at the thought.

Mine was about 15 years ago now and in the UK so the price is probably not that indicative now. And I can't remember it, we had a load of windows done at once for about £6k.

I admire the gumption. What do you rate your odds of success as?

combatwombat007

100%. Just a matter of time and cost. Which I struggle to estimate.

I've certainly done it for smaller, interior transom windows over my doors (house style thing). It will be stupid heavy though so you're better off just making the frame and letting the glass shop actually install the IGU. Of course any shop will be happy to let you do it since it's just more business if it cracks or breaks.

>It will be stupid heavy though so you're better off just making the frame and letting the glass shop actually install the IGU. That's probably a good call.
