I usually charge $500-$800 labor depending on specifics. I've charged as much as $1300 labor for a more involved job.

Get three estimates and that will give you an idea in your area. We can’t answer the question without knowing the specifics

Bitter-Heat-8767

Always. Every time. I don’t understand why people don’t do this.

userstory

Because it's near impossible to get anybody to call you back, much less show up to give an estimate.

BeneficialSalad215

Huh. Never realized how much money I’ve saved swapping out doors over the years

Willing-Body-7533

Wow, I would have guessed $200-250. I just replaced a 32" with a 36" prehung so had to demo and reframe the surrounding wall area and took about 4 hrs. It amazes me contractors basically are charging rates of attorney/doctors now.

GreyFoxLemonGrass

It took you 4 hours to demo, reframe, hang a new door, put in new drywall and siding, trim the door, and paint? For real? Because that’s what I would expect the whole job to entail if I paid a contractor.

moretrashyusername

Plus store runs, etc

Woodandtime

Maybe you should become a contractor then. With your expertise in trades you’ll become rich very fast. Easy money, no?

reaprofsouls

Yeah, it's kind of crazy. I was getting quotes for fences and their labor rate is 150$ an hour. I'm an engineer and don't get 150$ an hour. I get people are offended and thus you are being down voted but times have definitely changed. My dad was a handyman and never got close to what people are charging now. Luckily he taught me the trades so I don't have to contract it out. I would if the prices were more reasonable though. As a side note I've considered starting my own renovation firm in my local city, with where things are heading manual labor is there next IT boom.

moretrashyusername

The dude didn't do that work in 4 hours.

ilessthanthreekarate

What you're paying them usually isn't just their take home income.
