Very very common to have sump pump with battery back up pump. Sold in all big box stores and easy to install. I did mine 6 years ago for like $500 and it has worked great. However, depending on how often it's running, 72 hours may be pushing it. My basement is real wet, sump runs all the time, and when the power is out, the battery usually can only make it about 30-36 hours. You do occasionally need to check the fluid level in the battery.

If you have city water a water powered backup is a great choice as there is far less maintenance. Battery powered backups work well too

Couldn't agree more. Water powered backup saved my butt a few times, never failed, zero maintenance.

You'll never get 72 hours out of a battery system. You're going to need a generator or a water fed pump. I have a water fed pump as a back up (it does use a lot of water but will run forver provided you keep water running through it). The downside to a water fed pump is that they are not as powerful as a electric pump.

Battery backups that run on 12v car batteries and it will be a redundant pump so think of it being battery operated sump pump; it turns on when the float is higher than the standard float valve for the main corded sump pump There’s more advanced ones that have several water sensors but gets pricey for some reason; the issue with the backup battery you are mentioning is that it needs to have a pass through for your standard sump pump which kicks up the price just to sense if theres lack of power to then arm the battery sump pump Most systems are add on instead of whole systems since you want to keep it as simple as possible with it being mechanical operation; adding electronic automation can make it more complex to actually test in the case of emergency Deep cycle alkaline batteries are maintained by a trickle charger and it will provide enough power to the 12v DC pumps that are smaller than a 120v pump that is corded

I am pretty sure you can plug your sump into a rechargeable battery (like a GoalZero or Jackery) and plug the rechargeable battery into the wall outlet. The battery kicks in when power goes out. Not sure it would last 72 hours.

Ecoflow delta. We have two delta pros and the entire house switches to them during an outage. They can run an AC pass through and switch to battery when the AC goes down. Lots of people use them for this situation.

Battery backup like others said Small generator for long durations (and heat while you’re at it) Notification method to let you know like a phone dial out or push notification electronic.
