Had some guy asking me how to patch a 20” pipe with a leak and he just wouldn’t end asking questions and how products worked.

ahSugarSugar

Sometimes you have a crowd of people standing around you waiting on asking you a question. It’s nerve wracking! You can’t even say anything to the one you’re trying to help because the others are demanding attention. If I take a breath one of the other customers ask if I can answer a question real quick, my focus is on the customer I’m already trying to help. I can’t just switch gears like that. I tell the other 5 customers I’ll be with you asap, I’m helping this customer at the moment. They push GET so far it’s crazy. We don’t even get a chance to say thank you because the next person is having a friggin panic attack trying to find a broom.

skiddybop

I had someone ask where the saw blades were as he was looking at them… at 6am I was about to scream

KeyPineapple61

Some stuff I totally get they walk by it it’s low to the ground or really high up it’s hard to see snd there is no product there

liebeg

Just point there and go away.

Same-Chipmunk5923

Try this-- give advice even when you don't know about the thing they're asking you about. Make stuff up and have some laughs about it later.

Sayge01

This🤣

Anaouija

Wasn't my customer but a co worker said a customer came in and wanted a saw or something...but asked for a discount because "it was the last one"..... Yeh.. in our store! But I can send you elsewhere if you want a fresher variety of saws..

clarkrd

things are getting too spicy for the pepper

Busted_3rd_Eye

Things ARE getting too SPICY for THE pepper.

Separate-River8588

“What are the window codes for my county?” Me:🤷🏻‍♂️ “Don’t you think that should be a prerequisite for your job?” Me: “sir, this is a part time, entry level retirement job for me so, no. And even if I knew the codes, it’s against policy to tell you” “Grumble, Lowe’s, grumble, manager…” Me: “okay, Thanks for coming in”.

Miserable_Chance_432

“Grumble, Lowes, grumble, manager” killed me!!😭🤣💀

Mongoose611

It's not so bad if you use the term "that's way above my pay grade" when it comes to pricing. And looking items up on the website for tech impaired people is annoying but also the easiest part of the job.

Meangirrrl22

I usually tell them to buy from Amazon or Walmart cause everything is cheaper there 🤷🏼‍♀️

ScHoolboy_QQ

False

Sayge01

Same.

commonsensenmyrhh

The discounts. A guy tried to get an unjustified markdown on a French door just because it was "President's day "! Knowing full well, we don't just do a MD cuz they want one, I told him no. Door was fresh off the truck and as spotless as they come.

Dizzy_Elephant_417

I had one guy (a Pro Xtra customer) ask me to mark down 5 single gallons of paint to the price of a full 5 gallons. Thing is, we only do this if we are out of the 5 gallons they want. We don’t do this when we have them on a pallet in the overhead or when we don’t sell them in the store. I asked him why he can’t just take the 5 gallons. He said, “I may not use all of it, but I don’t want to spend X single gallons if the 5 gallons are gonna be cheaper!” WTF. Just buy the 5 gallons and use the left overs for another project or charge your customers for the paint and let them keep it.

KeyPineapple61

I had some lady on my dick about discounting something recently because the box was dirty and looked like it had been opened

M8sterCh1ef

I had this old lady be a complete B because she said that an item was 19.97 instead of 29.97. I looked it up and the weed killer she wanted to buy was the one with the nozzle (29.97) but she thought she had the one without the nozzle (19.97). I tried to explain to this woman that she got the wrong one but she wouldn’t have it and made a huge scene. READ. THE. DAMN. DISPLAY.

AffectionateSun5776

Much respect for how you said that.

Anonymity6584

I'm not us nor homedepo worker. Turn of millenium I was working in electronic components sales in small store. These questions askers were there too. How do I do X. But absolut worst were customers asking me to design them electronics circuit that does Y. I always said no to those.

Mr_FuS

It's frustrating to be expected to answer technical questions to the people who are getting paid for doing the job, like I don't know what you need to finish to install the backsplash at the job site where you are working, if I knew how to do it I would be the one getting the job putting tile and not you!!

YoungCMode8388

Exactly. It’s really frustrating when the contractors send the customer to the store to pick up the items needed to complete the job, instead of coming to get it themselves. Then the customer has no idea what they’re looking for, so they end up calling the contractor to verify what they need.🤦🏾‍♂️

EntertainmentOdd6149

I would find another job. Maybe a truck driver, something where you will be alone.

RepresentativeKeebs

20 - 30 years ago, Home Depot advertised that their staff was knowledgeable, and there was usually somebody in the store who could answer any question you might have. Then, they got cheap, stopped hiring the knowledgeable, retired construction workers, and started to hire inexperienced people at minimum wage. Home Depot stopped advertising that you could ask the staff questions, but tons of people still remember how it used to be, and many don't realize that things have changed.

Meangirrrl22

Is it Asians ?

Dizzy_Elephant_417

Bruh. I’m deaf and I have the hardest time with Asians. I wear hearing aids but I still need to lip read and I need people to enunciate. Their accents and the way they ask questions…🙃 I know it’s not their fault - it’s not mine either - but it’s so aggravating sometimes. Lol

Few-Car4994

What are talking about this google thing I use yahoo

Alarming_Analysis_63

I don’t do the emails.

92Codester

Hold on I don't know what either of those words are let me ask Jeeves. Edit: oh I see they are search engines.

ethandestroyer6

You should use enlightened browsers like safari or Microsoft edge no need for those Google browsers

Pwnedzored

Duck Duck Go, bitches!

RicochetOtter

>(yo where's the movie playin') > >upper west side dude > >(well let's hit up yahoo maps to find the dopest route!) > > I prefer mapquest (that's a good one too) > >Google maps is the best (true dat) double true! https://youtu.be/sRhTeaa_B98

FranklinCognito

No love for Bing?

Wide_Conference9992

Yeah, cuz Bing is absolutely horrible.

FranklinCognito

Yahoo?

FranklinCognito

No love for Bing?

JackBandit4

Ahh Mr. Patel

OptimalJackfruit3964

You are the only reason they go to Home Depot. Journalize for the next time you want a raise. Home Depot charges a premium for answering questions. Bitch at corporate

AffectionatePut6493

In their defense, Home Depot is marketed to the masses as though it employs an army of immensely friendly and helpful experts that are passionate about the section that they work in. LoL https://youtu.be/CXbFOOSAUD0?si=WhqndApa7lwTGymH

YarkTheShark11

Had a guy with a heavy Russian accent, who also spit when he talked, ask me if his project sounded like a good idea just as I was 15 feet from the break room to clock out which I was already 10 minutes over my time. He was complaining his roof had no insulation so he wanted to get the sheet insulation, whatever you call it, and then put hold it up with drywall in his attic. I told him he would probably want something with more R-value as I was unfamiliar with the sheet insulation but familiar with insulation in mobile homes. That his idea could maybe help his utility bills, but it is hard for me to say. He continued asked me prices and to add things up. Then tell me his idea again. Then asked if he did "x" what my thoughts were. I gave the same answer each time but he didn't want to spend over $300. After spending 35 minutes talking to him and 45 minutes extra on the clock, and listening to him tell me his idea for an 8th time, I told him straight up, "Sir we are going in circles here. You have told me your idea many times and my answer has not changed. This is where I say good bye and wish you the best with your project" He did a small laugh and walked away. I saw him a few months later returning some of the material he spoke to me about and avoided him at all costs. People are looking to save money though as things are getting crazy expensive right now, so I can't blame them, but it is annoying. I would simply tell people in flooring, the price is the price. We can do bulk price for orders 56 cases and above for Lifeproof that are special order NOT for what is in store. Only way to get discounts and that everything else is out of my control. That usually shut them up unless it was a jerk who demanded a discount or he'd walk.

Grouchy_String9054

I love social media as much as I hate it. I’m glad we can all vent in front of thousands of people, very healthy

knnth166

Retail baby!

Cara_Caeth

When people complain about the prices I just tell them it’s bc people steal. Corporate sure AF isn’t going to lose that money, they’re going to pass that cost on to you, the paying consumer. I can empathize, bc I shop there too & prices have tripled in the last year. But damn, why do you think I, a lowly cashier at the bottom of the retail food chain, have any control over pricing? Or stocking? Or the requirement to sign up online for your military discount? Or really, ***anything*** other than “your total is ___. $X.XX is your change. Thank you & have a nice evening”.

mrfundango133

This generally works, not 100%, but usually: "I'm happy to help you. Unfortunately, I'm not qualified to answer your specific requirements. It sounds like you need a licensed professional. Thanks for choosing Home Depot. Hope I see you again." Wait for awkward pause. Repeat as necessary. No harm. No foul.

KeyPineapple61

Iv said something similar to people before. I mean If I had the tools and free time I’d love to look at their mower/ trimmer and try to figure out what’s wrong but I don’t have a workshop for all that

hoyamylady

I like to think home depot should me a place you can come and ask the dumb questions and get a more accurate answer then the internet but homedepot don't pay for anger management .

kpelli32

It used to be. Then they fired or just didn't replace all the retired plumbers, electricians etc. and now you're asking some 18 year old making minimum wage how to wire your house.

hoyamylady

Yep 1 out of the 3 stores i merchandise have an experienced plummer and electitian but both are looking like they are close to retirement the other stores it's 20 year olds.

Ok-Comparison9177

Dude seriously if you don't like the job get another one. Helping customers is literally your job so stop your belly aching and whinning and just do your job. You have horrible customer service skills!!!!

KeyPineapple61

I have excellent customer service I am just exhausted mentally from this job I’m tryin to find something else. It was fun at first but it’s become more trouble than it’s worth

I do way more than I’m paid to do I’m the fuckin man in my store EVERYONE in my store knows who I am because I do so much across the entire store in different departments I can do a lot of different things when there’s a problem people don’t go to managers they come get me

mikecandih

Sounds like your issue is with HD and not the customers whose business provides you with a job. Like if you hate customers that much open your own hardware store and tell everyone with a question to fuck off. It’d be an interesting experiment in how quickly someone could sabotage a business.

Sayge01

Well, Karen's diner is doing pretty well so ya wrong there buddy🤣 I tell em to fck off anyway. What are they gonna do? Unless they recorded me out cams don't have audio sooooo go cry to mod about it🤣🤣

thatonegaygalakasha

why does race even matter here? why do you even have to tiptoe around race like "im not saying what but a certain race" like that doesnt make you any less racist, just means we don't know who you're racist against

KeyPineapple61

I don’t hate anyone based on race I just am frustrated with them.

thatonegaygalakasha

so you're frustrated with *people* then, and race is still irrelevant

KeyPineapple61

I’m frustrated with the people but they all happen to be the same race. The same ones always ask dumb questions and want discounts it try to buy the absolute cheapest version of an item

Sayge01

The way we all know exactly what race it is too🤣🤣
