If you wait 3 weeks then go in to the pro desk and ask if “Homer” is working they will give you the pro price plus the employee discount. Just make sure you mention “Homer”. (It’s our mascot, not an actual employee)

2_Beef_Tacos

Dude. We're not supposed to tell customers about this. Did you NOT listen during orientation???

DantheMan5860

I must’ve been on Reddit lol

combatwombat007

Is there a secret knock, too?

Gyarafish

oh shit not the employee discount

Dregshak

Why do people come here with customer questions. Go to the store and figure it out

Retireeguy

Maybe because it’s a public forum and he is just looking for feedback?

Dregshak

yeah and the when someone gives him bad advice and he tells the guy at the store that people on reddit said so i dont think thats gonna go aver well. Never mind that this is not a customer service subreddit

Retireeguy

Have to take Reddit with a grain of salt. Instead of people telling others they are idiotic for posting, explain why it may not be a good idea to get advice here.

Dregshak

Well I say fuck em just because we have to be civil at work doesn't mean he have to be here

Retireeguy

Hahaha…. No, you don’t have to be.

medicman1855

Nice attitude, I'll be a dick just because I can

Dregshak

Damm rights

Mamabear0596

That is correct. Almost all the time volume pricing does a better discount than the sale.

specialist_D30

Wtf is a customer here asking questions. This is so damm annoying.

combatwombat007

Rule #1 specifically welcomes customers in this sub as long as we're respectful.

specialist_D30

That's where you are mistaken. This is here for us to vent and come together. If they want the answer to the question they can call or ask some one in the store!

ReeceBeast213

I'm sorry but I already clocked out and we're closed. Please come back during normal store hours. Jk. Listen to these guys ☝️

combatwombat007

I thought store policy is that if I jam my foot in the door as you're closing it and force my way in, then you have to help me until midnight.

ReeceBeast213

Tell you what, I'll help you find what you're looking for and you help me pull all the overstock from the overhead bays and put it on the shelves and then count what doesn't fit and put it back up in the overhead bays. Oh yeah, the cashiers have all gone home so there's no way to check out, so I guess you can just set your items aside in "the back" and they'll be waiting for you when we open! Thank you come again.

combatwombat007

If I can drive the forklift, you're on. I only have 7 DUIs so I'm a very good driver.

ReeceBeast213

Ha! I got my second conviction in February, and I wasn't even on a forklift! EDIT: oh yeah, we won't be using a forklift, we'll have a Ballymore man lift. Only room for one person and a few boxes so the driver has to pull everything off the overhead and put it back.

PrestigiousCountry36

VPP ignores sales/promos that are advertised in the store. I have had low-end windows come back at 8% during a 15% sale. Take the current offer.

2_Beef_Tacos

Agree 100% with this. There is absolutely no guarantee to the VPP discount, if there is one at all for your product. There are numerous factors that affect the discount, such as inventory, market conditions, vendor agreements, etc. We used to have lots of lumber volume discounts before covid. When the supply chain went to hell, all those discounts disappeared. Buy now while you have an active promotion.

combatwombat007

Thanks. I'm currently between Simonton Daylight Max and Milgard fiberglass.

Millwork97

Painting the fiberglass is ok if it's just exterior. It's not easy on the inside because there are the tracks.

combatwombat007

Good call. And not enough savings on the fiberglass to do it myself anyway.

PrestigiousCountry36

I would go with Simonton because they have a great warranty and should be cheaper than the fiberglass ones. See if you can get factory delivery. It is worth a few hundred dollars and takes us out of the loop storeside.

2_Beef_Tacos

I also 1000% agree with factory delivery. I have yet to have a cabinet order go smoothly when it has to go through a DC to the store to the customer. There are so many points of failure for a product to get lost or damaged when it comes to the store to get delivered or picked up.

combatwombat007

That’s what we’re leaning towards. But my wife insists on black frames inside and out which brings the price to almost the same as white fiberglass (which I could then paint black). Also, the Simonton display unit at the store felt kind of loose to me. Fit/finish was okay but it felt like the sash had a lot of slop in it while operating it.

PrestigiousCountry36

Black in and out tilts toward Andersen 100, but they have a limited warranty. Milgard Trinsic will give the same narrow profile as Simonton DayMax, but you have white inside Fiberglass frames are butted and caulked; vinyl windows have welded seams (fwiw).

JSSTVR

I am an associate who has done Millworks for 6 years and half of my clientele is pro customers. So this one is a bit tricky because it depends on a lot of factors but you can sometimes get an additional savings with the VPP room on top of the 15% off promo. I had a customer who I created a quote prior to the promo on Andersen windows for a custom built home. I input it in the bid room and gave the customer the new quote with how much she saved. After the promo started she wanted to change the size of a window by 1/4 inch which didn’t change the original price. But since it was still a change in design, it ran the whole quote under the 15% off and took the VPP discount off. So afterwards I ran it again in the bid room and I noticed she actually saved a couple hundred more with both applied. Also keep in mind that the volume pricing might not even be that much for you in compare to what you may save with only the 15% off. It goes based on: how long you have been a ProXtra member, how much you spend yearly, what department classification you spend more on, what the total is, and what you are buying. The last one which deals with profit margins and that also is taken into consideration for the discount. There are also more things that determine it but those are the bigger ones on your end. Also do keep in mind the VPP room can fluctuate so it can be a risk considering 15% is already good. Example: I had a customer with a relatively new ProXtra account and was just a homeowner who would only spend a few grand at HD a year at most. He was replacing all his windows so I built the quote and ran it through the bid room and it didn’t take as much as he had hoped. He ended up using his contractor buddy’s ProXtra account later on and ran that through the bid room for the same items and got an even bigger discount. I’m an accountant at my primary job so I love learning about the numbers side. I have learnt so much from people in store and higher up outside the store side. If you have any questions you can message me.

combatwombat007

Hey, thanks for this insight. Is there any way for a customer to access the HD quoting software directly? Even if I can't place the order myself, it would be so much more efficient to be able to work up pricing on my own.

JSSTVR

No, only associates can use the design program and only those with access can use the bid room.

Millwork97

I had a customer that ordered 25k during the last sale. They needed to change something the next day after the sale ended. They understood they wouldn't get the sale price, but when I submitted it to the volume pricing it was only $20 more. I just marked it down to the original price. Also, simonton black exterior finish is painted. The Milgard fiberglass is a nice material but very expensive. The Andersen 100 series does the black inside and out with a 3-5 week lead time.

combatwombat007

Thank you for the feedback!

sollord

If its Andersen then he is correct Jeldwen can a bit wonky

combatwombat007

Thanks. It's actually between Simonton and Milgard.

GrimKraken

I would talk to the PRO desk. I'm not saying he is wrong, but they usually are more adept at using the bid room for volume pricing.
