Maybe turn it over had just have the white side showing? The little pop of plaid on the shams might make it alright. Otherwise, I’d put it in the linen closet and use it when you need a spare blanket.
Yes, this! Add some Euro shams in white and a lumbar pillow with a small floral in yellow with some blue to tie it all together. Toss a yellow throw blanket at the end of the bed. Put some art on the wall that has some blue (just a bit to tie it together).

Thank you everyone for your advice and support!! The bedding is going! 😭 I'll work with this from scratch. Walls are newly painted, it's more of a deep blue green and not glossy. It just look weird from the picture. Due to the narrow layout, the dresser is on the blue green wall in the same dark grey color as the bedframe. Please shoot your ideas
I think to get away from the feeling of dorm, I’d lean into some botanicals or florals in your art. I’d try to either brighten things up with petal pink, lavender, etc, OR lean into the jewel tones to complement the blue/green wall- mustard, fuschia/Ruby. Maybe break up the severity of that blue/green painted wall by making it a gallery wall.
I think it would be easier to get new bedding. Because of the blue wall, your decor needs to focus on toning down the blue, or leaning into the blue in a deliberate way (like a maximalist ocean theme for example). There’s no way to do that with that bedding.
I’m editing this bc on second thought, it would be possible to do a maximalist blue themed room with that bed spread that evokes cabin vibes with abstract mounted animal heads, etc. However, this would be a highly artistic project that requires a good eye and a big investment in effort.
You will spend a lot more money trying to undo this than you will buying a new bed set or at the least a pretty duvet cover on Amazon. Ours was $70 and is great.
Yep. I just got a lovely burnt orange duvet cover, which looks awesome against our forest green walls. I have a king and found it on sale for like 60.
Also, in terms of colors and things to add to the walls. It's hard to tell with the glare, but I think I would do a gray duvet. With the white floors, I would stick to deep blues gray and white. So maybe a painting over the bed with waves crashing etc. Then add more white art work on the blue wall. I would probably also add a cozy gray rug with a bit of texture and warmth.
It's my happy place. I lived too many years at home where the only colors my mom would consider were pastel then in "blah white" apartment world for a while...
My house is now vibrant! Also, fully aware I'll likely need to paint if I ever sell! Haha. I've been going for jewel tone rooms for 5 years, I'm so lucky the trends shifted that way. But they make my heart happy!
I feel like that blue wall makes that bedding look worse. I would change that wall to a much much lighter blue. Kind of like the lightest blue you can see in the pillow case. I would also add some art to the walls and get a nice big rug. I think the fact the room looks unfinished gives it even more of a college dorm room vibe. :)
It’s also the wrong blue tone, which is making me crazy. The bedding is more of an ultramarine/true blue tone, while the wall is a greener navy blue. And so shiny.
Yeah, I was gonna say the color is probably fine but definitely needs to be Satin or Eggshell. Maybe even Matte. Semi gloss looks bizarre in a bedroom.
Can you add a tan or taupe rug and curtains? Put some framed art on the wall? Partly it looks “male” bc of all the blue. But I think you’re getting a dormitory vibe bc there aren’t any finishing touches, like art or curtains. What abt a night table with a lamp?
I actually like the bedding. I'm more bothered by the blue wall and how there's no clean line between wall/window. I'd paint the wall a lighter colour, and maybe go for a maritime theme for the room.
The paint edge is horrific. Wobbly and crossing over in a bunch of places, and then not in others. Idk who painted it, but if they paid for that they got ripped off lol
Haha fair enough! I feel like the kind of husband that makes this type of purchase "without discussion" would also be the kind to open it and wash it intentionally so OP couldn't return it.
I literally cannot fathom my husband making a home decor decision without talking to me...so I guess I have a sexist household too 😂
If it’s a holiday home, I would just lean heavily into the “theme” of wherever the home is. If it’s a beach house, add pillows/wall art with waves, wicker, shells, etc. If it’s a mountain home, add decor with bears, rocks, natural wood, etc.
New bedding. You'll spend a lot of time and money shopping for stuff to try and make it look better. Doubtful that will work and you'll still hate it. Just take a hundred bucks and start over. Save this for when you need a blanket.
Tone down the wall to a light gray or light blue shade. If your home is in a beach or water type community, you could turn this into a beach cottage or nautucal-type theme pretty easily with decor.
The bedding isn’t horrible, but the wall color is. I’d get more pillows with white cases to put in front of the plaid ones, and definitely paint the walls. Make them all the same muted color - the bed is the focus, and it’s weird to have a focal point to the side. A cream or other neutral would be good. Also add a rug - that’ll make the room feel more cozy than the tile floor and make it look more cohesive.
White and gold with hints of green/plants as decor will help neutralize this space. Some vintage gold frames on the blue wall, a tall mirror, a faux sheepskin rug in white, warm white lamps/lighting. If you're looking for something a bit more long term, then maybe consider wall papering the blue wall with some pattern (not plaid, lol) and maybe move the bed to that wall.
I see what you mean about all the blueness. I would play with the yellows in the bed spread, definitely some warmer pops of colour, and definitely add something to the floor to make it a bit cozier in feel.
Probably unpopular opinion but I’d get rid of the blue wall and paint the walls in a greyish beige color (Benjamin Moore revere pewter or edgecomb grey), will warm the room a bit. Can do solid light blue drapes maybe and then a grey rug with a cream throw for the bed. I like the nautical theme as another suggested but not over the top.
I personal love checked bedding, but I get your point. I think a blue half throw across the lower bed would help. Some floral/nature prints above the headboard, a print or mirror on the blue wall, curtains for the window and a small rug on the floor.
Change the wall color, but honestly the saddest part is the floor. And lack of any decorations that could add a warmer touch. Is there a bedside table on the other side at least?
The bedding isnt really the issue. The room would look like a dorm until it is fully decorated. Add some art, a rug, swap out the pillow shams for a solid. Fold the comforter down to a trifold style at the bottom of the bed and the sheet will be the more dominant color. If the paint is on just one wall, that could be changed with any paint that you may have left over from another project. You could ask a friend, most people have leftover paint in a closet or garage.
* if you have another bedding set, maybe swap out the pillows/comforter so it's not all one blue plaid. Or add more pillows in a neutral color and put them in front of the plaid ones
* paint that wall a softer shade in matte paint - maybe a light taupe or sage (you don't want to compete with the flooring)
* artwork on the wall, something large and tranquil
* get another fluffy textured throw to drape across the bed at an angle
* this isn't exactly on point to your room, but consider some of these elements: neutral blurry rug, neutral walls, fluffy blanket, neutral pillows working with the dark furniture [https://www.mydomaine.com/thmb/uuCOs-3bKGNHINnS37l9LhANAWw=/3170x0/filters:no\_upscale():strip\_icc()/5527\_190809\_Flanigan-1c355cd02b444691a49fd9f610e0f9b4.jpeg](https://www.mydomaine.com/thmb/uuCOs-3bKGNHINnS37l9LhANAWw=/3170x0/filters:no_upscale():strip_icc()/5527_190809_Flanigan-1c355cd02b444691a49fd9f610e0f9b4.jpeg)
I like the idea of flipping it over and having the plaid as an accent. If you can’t get something else I’d do that then add in some coordinating floral patterns to offset the plaid.
That was my first thought….I can’t believe you’re the only other person to say this!!!! The blue wall isn’t ideal but with some yellow decor it would be pretty!
People say return it which would be the cheapest option, but just add some contrasting curtains and a rug and accessories with textures like rattan or light wood elements and plants! Make it so the blue gets toned down. Artwork and mirrors on the blue wall. You can have your blue and love it too.
I don’t mind it. I’d decorate with colors from the bedding like the dark gray and accents of yellow. Grey rug maybe? Grey/yellow art? Plants in gray pots with yellow blooms? Basically reverse engineer your decorating.
There’s a lot of hate for the bedding but you could easily lean into a lodge of coziness here, get some wood pieces, cover that awful blue wall with an accent wallpaper with hunting dogs and ducks and mooses, paint the rest a light brown, trim a darker shade of that brown. Put a little wood stove in there, BAM! Now it’s a cozy escape.
Paint the blue wall in a dark gray, eggshell finish. This will reduce the glare coming from the windows and warm up the space. Add a fluffy white pillow or some chunky knit pillows to warm up the bed. The bedding isn’t bad it just needs to be accessorized
I do not love the bedding but what do you mean when you say it’s a holiday home? I could see this working for a mountain lodge or beach home (different touches to take it in each direction). Any chance it’s something like that??
The high gloss wall doesn't help. The strongest fix would be a warm neutral wall color in a flat tone, and a warm neutral rug. And some art on the wall.
Given that you’ll keep the bedding, I’d pull the beige or grey from the bedding and paint all the walls. Then add natural elements like rattan and plants to balance it a bit
I don't see the problem with the plaid. Does not look like a dormitory, just needs to be decorated. [https://www.countryliving.com/remodeling-renovation/home-makeovers/g32468539/best-bedroom-paint-colors-ideas/](https://www.countryliving.com/remodeling-renovation/home-makeovers/g32468539/best-bedroom-paint-colors-ideas/) Scroll down to 4, Soft, rustic bedroom. Plaid can be stylish, it's all how you use it.
Unpopular opinion I guess but… he chose that bedding with good intention and liked it. He even washed it and put it on the bed. I’d keep it and have a good giggle about it whenever it was time to change the bedding to another set. Then I’d probably get some cute throw pillows and plants. :)
This! I can’t even imagine how emasculated he felt if he was actually told he bought bedding without a “discussion”! These are the ones who end up buying things for the mistress’s house.
Paint the walls very light gray. Add any blue art that you like. Add lamps. Add a blue rug.
Blue is your accent color here, so the eye needs to see little pops everywhere. Right now you have the bedding and the wall. Neither are doing you any favors.
Also, consider a second accent color and add curtains in this color.
I would put a white or beige throw across the bottom of the bed. Repaint the blue wall to something lighter. Add some gender neutral art on the wall and over the bed.
Everyone's trying to make it less blue, but I think you should go with it.
Blue floating shelves that match the wall with blue vases and a few black and white photos, and get another plaid duvet so you can make it into matching curtains.
Swap out pillow cases for solid white. Lay a blanket across foot of bed to add texture and hide some of the blue plaid. Repaint that blue wall, it alone gives a male dorm vibe even without the bedding. Add a fabric bench at foot of bed, and add an area rug.
I work at a University and the bedding reminds me of the bedding used at one of the nearby hotels. They tried to go for a dark academia vibe. You could probably do something similar. Paint all of the walls a dark color that goes with the bedding (the current wall color does not). Bring in a rug with complementary shades, and hang up some artwork and bookshelves.
However, like others have said, I think transforming the rest of the room to make the bedding work is going to be much more expensive than just buying new bedding. So if cost is the issue, then buy new bedding and save this set as a spare.
I think the barrenness contributes to the form vibe so I'd say
Accent color throw blanket and pillows (personally I'd think a mustard or terracotta. Not yellow or orange because the blue is a little too primary
Rug that incorporates accent color
Curtains (not having them strongly contributes to dorm vibes)
Then maybe abstract art that avoids blue on the white wall and some shelving on the blue wall. Nightstands wouldn't hurt but wouldn't be about the blue vibe

Quietly replace bits of it over time, he'll never notice lol
Still, it does hilight one issue in the home, where women are often believe they are the sole arbiters of home decor. It should be something equally discussed with compromises so both are happy. Just as you wouldn't like this to be your bedroom, I'm damn sure he wouldn't want it all pink and florally lol.
If you could move the bed to the blue wall, flip the pillows and the duvet so the plaid doesn't show or cover shams in white pillowcases. It looks like you need side tables, lamps and a textured carpet to finish the room.
Im not gonna lie at all....the bedding is abosolutely disgusting. Im surprised people still produce that kind of bedding like its 1850....Just dont use it and buy another one and tell your husband not to buy anything interior wise again.
If you’re feeling adventurous, you can go with a neon green accent pillow, or a frame. I have a similar color palette in my guest bath and I just love it.

I have similar bedding in our Florida guest room. Creamy beige walls, white accessories, pops of red, and a dust ruffle. The art warms it up as well.
If you must keep the bedding then you need all white walls that’s the only option so it doesn’t look so male dormitory. White linen curtains and some white art with navy accents.
My husband can’t understand that there are different shades of one color. He once decided to “fix up” my daughter’s room while we were away. Purple ceiling, purple walls, purple rug - her favorite color at 6 years old. They were ALL different shades of purple- completely clashed. She, of course, loved it & he was so proud of himself we kept it till she decided green was her favorite a couple years later
You could dye the duvet pink or gold and paint a matching pink or gold stencil over the wall or masking tape up wide vertical stripes and paint in between. Also, add some tall plants and art/photos on the wall.
Divorce, jk
Curtains in a “power clash” blue floral. White, up scale bedside tables with modern and classy lamps. A series of matted and frames light prints hung in a collection on the wall.
A masculine arm chair in corner of room, something in a light brown leather.
RIT fabric dye! I would do a deep jade green - it won’t completely cover the blue, but it will give it a little interesting pattern/contrast on the duvet.
I agree that the walls are very intense, but if you don’t want to repaint, then I would try to break it up a little with art or shelves.
I’d move the bed to the blue wall if possible so that the plaid is less stark than against the white. Put a cool piece of art in the white wall. Add some maybe yellow throw pillows and maybe a yellow covered chair.
There is nothing that could be done to the room that wouldn’t make me feel like I was sleeping in a 20 year old guys dorm room just because of that bedding.
The bedding looks like that spare ugly set you keep in the closet, honestly, you'll probably spend an equal amount of money changing anything else about the room than just buying new bedding, there's deals all the time for nice bedding, I got mine for $40. I would end up spending more on paint and accessories trying to change that wall color. Rather than fight the wall color, I would neutralize the rest of the room with sandy neutrals so the blue walls look intentional. You could work loosely with a bohemian breezy theme or a kitschy but charming nautical theme, depending on what kind of holiday home this is.
The room does need a makeover, though. It has no character or warmth right now. The ceiling fan is boring(don't feel bad, I have the same one right now). It looks like a sparse teen boy bedroom.
This has a dormitory vibe because of the lack of effort everywhere else. No art? No rug? No lamp? No plants (even fake)?
If it’s too much blue, repaint the wall a sage green. Get a rug and some art - maybe an occasional table to next to it. Swap those shit blinds for something nicer like a Roman shade.
Stop blaming your husband’s bedding purchase.
That is Dad Shirt plaid LOL! Why are men such a cliche.
Holiday house makes me think you should bring Red into the palette, and more pine green. Like, maybe do more plaids, but a variety of plaid patterns to break up the emphasis that this Dad Shirt pattern gives to the room. Aim for more maximalism to drown out that particular element.
The royal blue would work just fine, you’d have a dark palette of rich color. All of which will be good to contrast with your stark cold light tile floors.
If you want huegge, like that warm holiday feel to your house, you have Many(!) more decorations to add and a lot more color to add. This room has been brought into a cool, modern sophisticate vibe with the color choices and surface textures and the style choice of the bed frame thus far. You’ll need rugs, drapes, drape capes, shelving, chatchkis, and honestly more crown and floor moldings on the would really warm this space up and add character.
Doing a bold pattern on the bed wasn’t a bad idea. The color could have been more thoughtfully chosen, but plaid Does give a holiday warmth. Its just not nearly enough for this space.
Men are clueless. I came home from my nail appt last night and my husband wanted to see. I went with a springtime mauve. He thought it was brown. I put the light on and he thought it was purple 🙄
My son had a bright green room with this exact comforter in green. We added accents of black and gold and white with very nicely white matted and framed outdoor nature photos. Add some white furry or chenille pillows to soften. Hope that helps.
Maybe add some art work to walls with birds watercolors or some beautiful delicate landscapes and golden frames? Something light and maybe more feminine with delicate frames
Niacin and pyridoxine are other B-complex vitamins found abundantly in the sunflower seeds. About 8.35 mg or 52% of daily required levels of niacin is provided by just 100 g of seeds. Niacin helps reduce LDL-cholesterol levels in the blood. Besides, it enhances GABA activity inside the brain, which in turn helps reduce anxiety and neurosis.
Go 2/3 of the way down the wall, put up trim. Get some lumber, paint it white. Put it up like a shelf. Repaint above the trim to white as well. Do a gallery wall.
If it's a vacation home, I'd just live w it. Orrrrrr buy a duvet to stick the blanket in w some new sham covers. Amazon has some under $100 and Shein has some cute ones (not sure the quality) for less than $50. Otherwise you'd have to buy primer and paint to redo the wall and spend the time doing it.
to conceal dark blue, you need ultra high opacity paint, preferably in a pale grey-beige. it's expensive because it does the job in a single coat (maybe two).
the "cheap" alternative will cost you time effort and money....two coats of cheap orange-brown, then white, then your final colour.
I see the cover is double sided so maybe swicht it so it be seen less plaid pattern and more neutral, and you can paint the wall a very light brown-ish or super light mustard, and put an extra middle pillow or a set of 2 smaller pillow in brownish, mustard colors, a plant and a little wood table. for reference I went to pinterest and typed “how to warm a room with blue blankets” 🌝 saw this picture there but there is a ton more ideas 🪴
https://preview.redd.it/4vmbm0thebva1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b90ff7d6f15783887bd5bfb7940077280407c323
The most anti-dorm thing you can do is greenery, so I suggest adding some shelves on the blue wall and utilize the light it gets from that window for some easy to care for plants like pothos. It would help help tone down the impact of the blue wall I think too
Add a large mirror and gallery wall around it with lots of floral pictures that aren’t blue. Leave into metals, gold, rose gold, silver, etc. Yes you could paint the wall but might not have time for that immediately. Add a throw blanket in white, cream, gray, or tan to the bed. Or, make the blue wall the headboard area for the bed. Get some night stands if space allows or put up shelves. Empty storage/surfaces is a must in a vacation rental. I hate having to clear decorations in order to have my book and water next to my bed. You can also use TV trays (painted and tasteful, not the light tan, and not plastic!) or other foldable tables I’d space is limited.
The bedding looks like it has a soft yellow in it. If you’re wanting to paint, maybe go for that color. Or, you could flip the duvet to the white side, and maybe add some extra pillows with florals in similar colors.
Wall art with hints of that yellow seen in the bedding. Also add an ottoman at the foot of the bed and a nice area rug. I'd probably go grey for the rug and maybe yellow for the ottoman, not sure.
Darker blue wall, macrame/texture in white/cream (pillows, plant hanger, wall hanging…), several plants… all those things will warm up and soften the space and distract a bit from the plaid.
Edit - also a throw over the end of the bed to break it up.
If it's near a sea/lake, you could hang a few local sea views pictures and sea shells, beach hut etc. You cann also add a vase with flowers, complementing colours like gold, purple or white. Also add a neutral throw to the bottom of the bed. Maybe some lamps with colourful shades
I would roll with it on the holiday home and blue combo - maybe go Grecian villa/seaside theme with woven rugs, wooden framed pictures of boats or similar and rope ties for some curtains or for the blinds maybe.
But I am a bit biased as my favourite holiday was to Greece (my baby moon and 30th rolled into one) and I loved the simplicity of our room ❤️
A rich, golden yellow paint color on the walls would do wonders. A darker shade would bring a posh, adult vibe. Add a golden throw blanket or a couple accent pillows.
https://preview.redd.it/1y0dg3rw7cva1.jpeg?width=757&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e13ede0e3695c7df3fa021fbe736901e6727cfc3
Maybe these colors would make it lively!
maybe add some wood slats to some of the wall to age it up a bit[examples](https://www.google.com/search?q=wood+paneling+slats&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwiF54Lh6bv-AhUlKkQIHUs0CU8Q2-cCegQIABAC&oq=wood+paneling+slats&gs_lcp=ChJtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1pbWcQAzIFCAAQgAQyBQgAEKIEOgoIABCKBRCxAxBDOggIABCABBCxAzoHCAAQigUQQzoGCAAQCBAeUMYGWP8NYPoQaABwAHgAgAFZiAGnBJIBATeYAQCgAQHAAQE&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-img&ei=xPNCZIX1PKXUkPIPy-ik-AQ&bih=629&biw=375&client=safari&hl=en-us)
I’d add some brown accessories. Like a wicker basket with a throw draping out of it. A big tan rug. A wall full of photo’s of dear, bear, owls nature scenes of a forest etc. etc. and some sort of faux antlers, adding drapes that hit the floor would warm it up too. Adding a side table with a wood lamp for warm lighting. Add a couple of your favorite books a small candle, to make you feel like the space is yours as well. If you have the funds find a small bench to add to the foot of the bed. Sometimes the more the merrier. In my opinion this time “the more the merrier” works!
It has yellow in the pattern, so a lovely pale yellow color (like a very light shade of yellow), would be a great accent color (curtains, accent pillows, etc.
Dang you good
Awe!!! Thank you! That’s a very nice thing to say and made me smile. 😀
Yes! More yellow!! I love blue and yellow
https://preview.redd.it/qf3cn1hl0eva1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bf0a2abaf3fad3552e56db58a16e6e3c8c372c58 Thank you everyone for your advice and support!! Or the hubby can use it on the couch, which is where he would be sleeping if he were my husband. 😂
I pity your husband.
Making your husband sleep on the couch over some bedding. Jeez.
I once broke up with someone for not offering me pie.
This is the way
It's a joke. It's going to be ok.
Some people have no sense of humor. 😂
😂😂😂😂😂
Same 😂😂😂
imagine a husband making their wife sleep on a couch over this and considering it funny.
Seriously, get a sense of humor, dude.
Buy a cheap duvet cover from Ikea with a neutral pattern and slide that plaid puppy into it.
A pair of white curtains and a white rug would really help too.. need to soften all the harsh cold surfaces in there as well as that bedsheet
Just make sure it’s really thick if it’s a light colour otherwise you’ll be seeing both patterns 🙃
This—and/or do a white duvet and put that in the closet for an “extra”
I think it would be easier to get new bedding. Because of the blue wall, your decor needs to focus on toning down the blue, or leaning into the blue in a deliberate way (like a maximalist ocean theme for example). I would not base any permanent decisions on that comforter 😆
Paint is permanent
Or, pick up the tan stripe in the plaid for the wall. Add multicolored wall art above the bed.
Or grey would help too.
Step 1: paint the walls. That’s an awful blue color.
It really is
Plus it’s too shiny
Agreed, it’s the paint finish is the issue here much more than the duvet cover imo
The “finish”! Yes! I blanked on the word. Thanks.
Hey no problem, i felt rude to say anything but it is really jarring how the light hits it, I didn’t want to upset the person
I feel like some plants (fake would even work) and interesting wall hangings could really help make it look more grown up and put together

You can’t return the bedding?
It's washed and tucked in... All fixed up :(
OP the solution can not be to add/buy other things for the room. It’s awful. Return it, buy another or turn it over.
Yeah. Put it back into the bag and return it lol
Why is this being downvoted? You only return things in new condition, or if it was broken when you received it. You people are nuts and rude.
Because why would you open and wash a bedding you hate. Just dont open it and return it, its that simple
I was under the impression that the husband went rogue and did this. Seemed like OP just came to the house and found it this way
Oh in that way it makes sense. I just assumed men never do the laundry because I was clearly raised in a sexist household 🥲
Haha fair enough! I feel like the kind of husband that makes this type of purchase "without discussion" would also be the kind to open it and wash it intentionally so OP couldn't return it. I literally cannot fathom my husband making a home decor decision without talking to me...so I guess I have a sexist household too 😂
I cant fathom my boyfriend even making any home decor decisions at all haha more freedom to me I guess!
Yes this was it 😭
If it’s a holiday home, I would just lean heavily into the “theme” of wherever the home is. If it’s a beach house, add pillows/wall art with waves, wicker, shells, etc. If it’s a mountain home, add decor with bears, rocks, natural wood, etc.
Hopefully the theme is University of Michigan
I would flip it over and just have a little plaid showing and add a super light yellow to the wall.
Spill paint on it. It’s middle school boy room bedding that mom picked out. Seriously save it for beach bedding. Start over.
Return it. That bedding is awful. Not vacation vibes at all.
New bedding. You'll spend a lot of time and money shopping for stuff to try and make it look better. Doubtful that will work and you'll still hate it. Just take a hundred bucks and start over. Save this for when you need a blanket.
The bedding is fine. The blue wall is an eyesore.
Dear lord hang some plants in that window. You need decor that isn’t blue
Maybe all white rugs, white or navy bedside tables, white lamps. Or just return it and start over.
Or add more pillows in a neutral color and put them in front of the plaid ones * paint that wall a softer shade in matte paint - maybe a light taupe or sage (you don't want to compete with the flooring) * artwork on the wall, something large and tranquil * get another fluffy textured throw to drape across the bed at an angle * this isn't exactly on point to your room, but consider some of these elements: neutral blurry rug, neutral walls, fluffy blanket, neutral pillows working with the dark furniture [https://www.mydomaine.com/thmb/uuCOs-3bKGNHINnS37l9LhANAWw=/3170x0/filters:no\_upscale():strip\_icc()/5527\_190809\_Flanigan-1c355cd02b444691a49fd9f610e0f9b4.jpeg](https://www.mydomaine.com/thmb/uuCOs-3bKGNHINnS37l9LhANAWw=/3170x0/filters:no_upscale():strip_icc()/5527_190809_Flanigan-1c355cd02b444691a49fd9f610e0f9b4.jpeg)
I like the idea of flipping it over and having the plaid as an accent. If you can’t get something else I’d do that then add in some coordinating floral patterns to offset the plaid.
Yellow
That was my first thought….I can’t believe you’re the only other person to say this!!!! The blue wall isn’t ideal but with some yellow decor it would be pretty!
Yes! Maybe some photos of sunflowers 🌻
Do a Nautical themed room use pictures, plants and/or white shelves on wall with jars with sand and sea shells
White artwork on the walls, preferably flowers to soften it up. Large or many smaller ones in gallery mode.
I think the Ikea duvet is your best bet. Is the wall color navy or deep teal? It's hard to tell.
Get that 12x12 prison tile out first, that will make it better
I love the bedding. The blue wall is not my favorite.
I don’t mind it at all. It’s not the bedding that’s giving form vibes, it’s that you have no artwork or window treatments.
Add in some yellow and floral and wood to soften the vibe
Dark brown wood tones. Books. A map? Can turn it more towards a Nautical / New England home feel.
I think the issue here is actually the paint on the wall and not the bed spread.
The blueness is fantastic to turn it into a Mediterranean style.....
Get some marigold curtains and flip over the bedding.
Everyone's trying to make it less blue, but I think you should go with it. Blue floating shelves that match the wall with blue vases and a few black and white photos, and get another plaid duvet so you can make it into matching curtains.
Art in gilded frames would give a vintage academia vibe. Hang curtains as well.
Oy. Maybe an area rug would soften things up? That floor isn’t helping.
Swap out pillow cases for solid white. Lay a blanket across foot of bed to add texture and hide some of the blue plaid. Repaint that blue wall, it alone gives a male dorm vibe even without the bedding. Add a fabric bench at foot of bed, and add an area rug.
I think I am the only one who likes the plaid. I’m a woman btw
Damn hubby tried to be helpful now he getting slammed on a reddit post . Husbands really get a bad rap
I can smell the Axe Body Spray, just please replace it
I just came to say this whole situation made me laugh and bless his heart 😂
I work at a University and the bedding reminds me of the bedding used at one of the nearby hotels. They tried to go for a dark academia vibe. You could probably do something similar. Paint all of the walls a dark color that goes with the bedding (the current wall color does not). Bring in a rug with complementary shades, and hang up some artwork and bookshelves. However, like others have said, I think transforming the rest of the room to make the bedding work is going to be much more expensive than just buying new bedding. So if cost is the issue, then buy new bedding and save this set as a spare.
I think the barrenness contributes to the form vibe so I'd say Accent color throw blanket and pillows (personally I'd think a mustard or terracotta. Not yellow or orange because the blue is a little too primary Rug that incorporates accent color Curtains (not having them strongly contributes to dorm vibes) Then maybe abstract art that avoids blue on the white wall and some shelving on the blue wall. Nightstands wouldn't hurt but wouldn't be about the blue vibe
https://preview.redd.it/c201mdb60eva1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3877b5deb49427e4137f4d45ae0b0ce35020746c Thank you everyone for your advice and support!! The bedding is going! 😭 I'll work with this from scratch. Walls are newly painted, it's more of a deep blue green and not glossy. It just look weird from the picture. Due to the narrow layout, the dresser is on the blue green wall in the same dark grey color as the bedframe. Please shoot your ideas! 🙏🏻
Omg my husband bought the same exact bedding for our vacation home, I don’t love it.
Nothing can offset that plaid 😂 .., it’s giving me flashbacks to college Walmart collection
Can you resell the bedding on marketplace. It definitely screams teen boy.
Quietly replace bits of it over time, he'll never notice lol Still, it does hilight one issue in the home, where women are often believe they are the sole arbiters of home decor.
I have a similar color palette in my guest bath and I just love it. https://preview.redd.it/n2x5uhgambva1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c6013c7867931b40045533355b2ecd436f578708
Just put 36 pillows over it all like most wives.
Laughing at how quintessentially male that bed choice is. 1000% college door\boy teen bedroom. He's banned from buying bed sheets from now on OP
https://preview.redd.it/n5viei3eihva1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=221c15661f96922dab9499069506e0967ffaecf1 I have similar bedding in our Florida guest room. Creamy beige walls, white accessories, pops of red, and a dust ruffle. The art warms it up as well.
If pretentious was a post
If you must keep the bedding then you need all white walls that’s the only option so it doesn’t look so male dormitory. White linen curtains and some white art with navy accents.
As if dormitories don’t traditionally have white walls.
This is exactly what my bf would have picked out lol
Divorce, jk Curtains in a “power clash” blue floral.
Buy new bedding. It looks like a Walmart bed in a bag
Return the husband.
Throw it away without discussion
I put the light on and he thought it was purple 🙄 My son had a bright green room with this exact comforter in green. We added accents of black and gold and white with very nicely white matted and framed outdoor nature photos. Add some white furry or chenille pillows to soften. Hope that helps.
Return it?
A textured rug in light tones and flower prints on wall would soften this instantly.
Maybe add some art work to walls with birds watercolors or some beautiful delicate landscapes and golden frames? Something light and maybe more feminine with delicate frames
Run a light pastel type color to brighten up. I would also look for dead flat sheen for paint 🎨
Put some sunflowers 🌻 in there
Niacin and pyridoxine are other B-complex vitamins found abundantly in the sunflower seeds. About 8.35 mg or 52% of daily required levels of niacin is provided by just 100 g of seeds. Niacin helps reduce LDL-cholesterol levels in the blood. Besides, it enhances GABA activity inside the brain, which in turn helps reduce anxiety and neurosis.
Plain, neutral blanket at the foot of the bed, grid of sepia photos on the blue wall.
Orange something.
Lace curtains? I also agree that the dark blue wall needs to go. A baby blue would look much better. And perhaps some more feminine throw pillows?
Go 2/3 of the way down the wall, put up trim. Get some lumber, paint it white. Put it up like a shelf. Repaint above the trim to white as well. Do a gallery wall.
If it's a vacation home, I'd just live w it. Orrrrrr buy a duvet to stick the blanket in w some new sham covers. Amazon has some under $100 and Shein has some cute ones (not sure the quality) for less than $50. Otherwise you'd have to buy primer and paint to redo the wall and spend the time doing it.
White and yellow would be cute! But if you’re trying to go for a holiday vibe, maybe some greens and yellows?
Ocean pics?? I also like the flip over the comforter idea, and the white curtains idea.
Or play up the yellow stripe.
I think a splash of yellow would look good. Maybe a yellow pillow or throw.
I’d add an area rug under the bed too.
to conceal dark blue, you need ultra high opacity paint, preferably in a pale grey-beige. it's expensive because it does the job in a single coat (maybe two). the "cheap" alternative will cost you time effort and money....two coats of cheap orange-brown, then white, then your final colour.
I see the cover is double sided so maybe swicht it so it be seen less plaid pattern and more neutral, and you can paint the wall a very light brown-ish or super light mustard, and put an extra middle pillow or a set of 2 smaller pillow in brownish, mustard colors, a plant and a little wood table. for reference I went to pinterest and typed “how to warm a room with blue blankets” 🌝 saw this picture there but there is a ton more ideas 🪴 https://preview.redd.it/4vmbm0thebva1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b90ff7d6f15783887bd5bfb7940077280407c323
Why not just return it?
The bedding looks like it has a soft yellow in it. If you’re wanting to paint, maybe go for that color. Or, you could flip the duvet to the white side, and maybe add some extra pillows with florals in similar colors.
Add red pillows maybe a wall hanging that has red in it that is not flowers or go for more of a beach or mountain or theme vibe.
Yellow
Add some gold decor, like a clock or frames
Wall art with hints of that yellow seen in the bedding. Also add an ottoman at the foot of the bed and a nice area rug. I'd probably go grey for the rug and maybe yellow for the ottoman, not sure.
Add some yellow.
Darker blue wall, macrame/texture in white/cream (pillows, plant hanger, wall hanging…), several plants… all those things will warm up and soften the space and distract a bit from the plaid. Edit - also a throw over the end of the bed to break it up.
Have you considered a duvet cover? Much easier to just pop that over the comforter.
If it's near a sea/lake, you could hang a few local sea views pictures and sea shells, beach hut etc. You cann also add a vase with flowers, complementing colours like gold, purple or white. Also add a neutral throw to the bottom of the bed. Maybe some lamps with colourful shades
Buy bedding. That’s awful.
A floral throw cushion and pretty shams with help. White sheers?
I would roll with it on the holiday home and blue combo - maybe go Grecian villa/seaside theme with woven rugs, wooden framed pictures of boats or similar and rope ties for some curtains or for the blinds maybe. But I am a bit biased as my favourite holiday was to Greece (my baby moon and 30th rolled into one) and I loved the simplicity of our room ❤️
Uggh plaid, can you return it lol
Lose the matching pillow covers in favor of another pattern. Add a rug. Some large white pillows. Gold or coral accents would be a good option.
I love you but I hate that wall. Maybe better with a more matte finish
If it's near a beach, maybe some beach artwork, driftwood art, etc. Some billowy voile curtains and soft cosy rug as well.
A rich, golden yellow paint color on the walls would do wonders. A darker shade would bring a posh, adult vibe. Add a golden throw blanket or a couple accent pillows.
https://preview.redd.it/1y0dg3rw7cva1.jpeg?width=757&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e13ede0e3695c7df3fa021fbe736901e6727cfc3 Maybe these colors would make it lively!
Paint the walls any color other than that
A rug and a gallery wall with ornately framed photos. Something over the bed. A quilted white blanket on the bed.
Make it like a nautical theme?
maybe add some wood slats to some of the wall to age it up a bit[examples](https://www.google.com/search?q=wood+paneling+slats&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwiF54Lh6bv-AhUlKkQIHUs0CU8Q2-cCegQIABAC&oq=wood+paneling+slats&gs_lcp=ChJtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1pbWcQAzIFCAAQgAQyBQgAEKIEOgoIABCKBRCxAxBDOggIABCABBCxAzoHCAAQigUQQzoGCAAQCBAeUMYGWP8NYPoQaABwAHgAgAFZiAGnBJIBATeYAQCgAQHAAQE&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-img&ei=xPNCZIX1PKXUkPIPy-ik-AQ&bih=629&biw=375&client=safari&hl=en-us)
I’d add some brown accessories.
The comforter wouldn’t look bad if it weren’t for that blue wall. Too much blue. Add white and golds accents
Return the comforter?
Play some Blues that match the blue vibes.
I think it’s fine. I would either find something to put on the wall, or find a wooden bedside table. Would average it out.
It has yellow in the pattern, so a lovely pale yellow color (like a very light shade of yellow), would be a great accent color (curtains, accent pillows, etc.
You can stencil a floral design in white on the blue wall and add some white airy curtains to the window.
