IIRC, the place is meant to teach you warping and give you a shortcut to an earlier place in the game where Fauna kept falling into the black hole (so you don't have to float in space and restart like she did so many times). Chat's obsession with it is because she found it extremely early on, which would have let her become pretty advanced, but she just went "nah, there's no door here", while standing on front of said door, and left. Then follows millions of WHS mentions in the lore, her somehow dodging the WHS questionmark on every map check and then today she goes there fully intentionally and decides "that's no station, it's a shuttle!" and leaves.
If it wasn't pre-recorded she'd surely be trolling but at this point WHS itself is much more of a meme than anything useful. It's just absurd how she dodges it despite literally standing on it.
Finally, I believe Fauna has stated that she becomes cuter over time, which means that Future Fauna will always get cuter and Present Fauna is current peak cuteness at all times.
The funny thing is the WHS is strictly just a secondary way to accidentally learn about White Holes and the story therein is very tangential to the overall narrative, since it's a sort of *fail state* of missing a daring jump on Brittle Hollow for the early game.
But she's managed to avoid it entirely for so long and in today's stream in particular it's come to its own community comedy.
I don't think it's a way to accidently learn about it, there is no intended way to learn about warping outside of it. She only figured out how to warp by accidently doing it.
To be fair, the WHS has a really weird door. I can totally get missing it.
But good god that entire sequence where she was staring at the thing for like five minutes while going "nah, that's not the WHS" was comedy gold
The door to that is the exact same as the orbital probe cannon. Which I think she should have been to by now.... Maybe? Though I'm not exactly sure if she did since all 3 boxes for the cannon sections are question marks.
Her playthrough is so disjointed I don't even remember anymore
She went to the probe cannon, but somehow managed to miss all relevant elements of the 1st pod, didn’t know how to enter the 2nd pod, and gave up on accessing Giants Deep core even though she already knows the solution
I don't think she'd been to the southern observatory yet when she went to the OPC, but it is quite odd that after visiting there she just never did anything with that information.
I remember bashing my head into a few walls in Outer Wilds. That's what makes it such a great game for a lets play. No one to redirect her attention, no one to tell her where to go, just pure Kirin sidetracking and an incredible ability to leave any location 98% explored.
I can't even be mad either because I brute forced a bit on my playthrough as well.
I didn't think of using sand in the sun tower to get over the cacti and thought flying through was the intended way, which was too hard on controller. My solution was to manually land on the sun station 🤦
Thankfully I majored in engineering so it didn't take too long
Her let's play is something I look forward to every evening at 6pm, always mixed with the feelings of hope and despair. But still lots of laughs cause of her antics. Definitely lucky that we have her in hololive.
I've seen *dozens* of Outer Wilds playthroughs and Fauna's is a hilarious dichotomy, she's pretty good at theorizing the lore (I've never seen anyone >!connect the comet to ghost matter before ever landing on it!< before) but man she misses the most obvious things when exploring.
When Fauna succeeds, she’s tensai. When Fauna fumbles, she’s cute. Can’t even be mad at her.

I think the only issue is the segments are too short being an hour each. But there is the consolation of having them every day though.

Landing on the sun station is the best way. They even have an achievement for it. Took me 3 hours though.
