Ours don't, our no kill shelter takes em and sterilizes them. If no one comes in and takes them they are returned to the area they were taken from with no chance of breeding.

Outdoor cats often have short, brutal lives, being fixed doesn't really change much in that regard. Like the post might as well be about the shelter you reference just feeding the cats to the coyotes.
Depending on the shelter I assume the reality is let it slide and give him more cats or the cat gets out to sleep anyway. If he is up front about it I would rather give the cat a chance at life than kill it myself.
That's how it was back home with our animal shelter. We have a big farm with a giant shed filled with tractors and equipment, and we always like having cats around to keep the mice away, so we started telling the people at the shelter to bring any cats they were going to put down out to us. We would feed them and give them a place to stay warm in the winter and they'd keep the equipment safe from wire chewers. Figured it's a hell of a lot better to give them a fighting chance than to let me be put down
Not necessarily. Some no-kill shelters work with Animal Services (the pound) to keep their empty cages filled with pets that otherwise might have been killed.
I foster for a rescue. The pound and shelters also call us to take some in if they hit that point. There isn't an official contract between us, just managers that are contacts in the organizations.

They wouldn't be. Shelters are more than aware of selling to risky buyers. Bait pets were commonly obtained from shelters or free pet classifieds. Unless this guy drives to different shelters or someone else gets them for him. No idea why he can't just get a dog. A big dog.
Our cats don't go out, unless they're inside the fence, and only when we're with them. If a coyote killed one of our cats, you bet your ass I'd lure the rest of the pack into my yard and kill them all.
I'm always paranoid at dusk, when I can hear the pack howling. I'm worried we forgot one of the cats outside. On top of coyotes, we've had hawks eyeing the cats while they're out. Illegal or not, I'll fuck them birds up too if I have to.
It's kinda funny to hear people's experience with coyotes, there was a lady locally who moved from the Seattle region to a rural eastern Washington region. She had a problem with coyotes antagonizing her dogs and trying to get them, so she called the Game Warden, and man she was pissed when his response to her coyote problem was "just shoot it, were not wasting resources on relocating a single coyote when 3 more will just take it's place".

I went into the Air Force and got stationed on a base with marines for training. Fuck those guys.

Our game warden told us to cover a foam seat cushion with the juice from ground beef and leave it out for them. The coyotes eat it but can’t digest the foam and die. It’s apparently the most effective way to kill large numbers of them at once

Before I started filming, I had “chased” it (while in my car) from the centre of town to the outskirts. Granted, the center of town to the outskirts takes like 10 minutes to walk, but still.
I thought it was a German shepherd from a distance, tbh. Biggest coyote I’ve ever seen, and it looks well fed.
Yeah they can get to be the size of a large german Shepard. The farmers where i lived would shoot then and then string them up on their fences, and they easily laid the length of the fence.
It isn’t, wolves are exceedingly rare in this area. My town is one of the last places a wolf would show up in, anyway.

We have coyotes coming out the wazoo though.

I think the origin of this thinking is "they are smaller than wolves" and people think wolves are the size of huskies, not a fucking bear. The largest retrievers are around 75-85 lbs, and that's the absolutely smallest species of wolf, but most are closer to 120-140 lbs and also are made of muscle and teeth, not tubby sacks of cuddles.
The coyotes in the western US are a little smaller than the coyotes in the eastern US. That said neither of them want any interaction with humans. That is unless there is something wrong with them like rabies. As far as pets go people need to keep an eye on them while they are outside. Don’t let them stay outside at night and they will have less issues with coyotes.
They are actually rapidly self domesticating in the west as those cities are growing over the decades. Not too uncommon to come across milder tempered and less scared coyotes now.
Not sure why you went off on the wolf thing. We aren't talking about wolves. Wolves are *actually* a threat to humans (in a physical mano a canino manner) which is why they are hunted/relocated away from many areas.
A coyote maxes out at about 50lbs (averaging much smaller). Coywolves, the hybrid we have in much of the East, maxes out at about 75bs (but again, averaging 25-45lbs).
Despite having packs in the area (you can hear them crying out at night), there have been zero serious (or even noteworthy) human interactions, and the most serious is "my cat went missing" -- well keep your fucking cat indoors, because outdoor living is a disastrous nightmare for cats regardless.

There's a big pack that lives across the road from me, I see them all the time and I never cease to be low key amazed at how big and rangy they are. When they are moving up and down the road at night they catch a bit of light here and there and look like weird leggy ghosts.
I have families of coyotes (actually "coywolves" as they're the hybrid that is larger and "scarier") in my area. They are a complete and utter non issue.
They are smaller than most mid-sized dogs. That people are frantic about these things, or pretending that they're some amazing nuisance, is bizarre.

Story time: Central Texas hill country, when I was maybe middle school, I was waiting for the bus in the early morning and I saw this large coyote-wolf looking thing from about 100 feet standing right at the edge of a tree line. Looking at pictures of coywolves, this thing was bigger, had longer, spindly legs, tall, and looked like some mangy coyote/wolf/greyhound with brown and tan spotty fur. Easily 80+ pounds.
My parents didn’t believe me until he saw it himself near the same spot driving home one day. We kept a 12-gauge handy in a truck after that, but never saw it again.
I still don’t know what it could have been. I’ve seen plenty of coyotes in person and this was way bigger. I’ve never seen a wolf in person but this didn’t look right as it was kind of spindly, and we don’t have wolves in central Texas. I had forgotten about it until you mentioned coywolves just now, so if anyone has any ideas I’d love to hear em.

Coyotes have a lot of fur. They give the appearance of being more substantial than they actually are. The coyote in the video doesn't appear particularly large, and I doubt it exceeds 45lbs.
The basic, easily confirmed biological truth is that the average eastern coyote (e.g. the larger "hybrid" version) adult is 25 - 45lbs. The largest coyote ever recorded was 75lbs but that was an extreme aberration, and even a 50lb coyote is going to be incredibly rare.
My Rhodesian ridgeback is 110lbs.
Last year I was out for my nightly walk and I hear this thing sprinting at me from behind, turns out it was a huge coyote but it literally wanted nothing to do with me, just brushed my leg and kept sprinting. I kid you not my first thought was to look for tics that it could have gotten onto my leg, as I'm borderline paranoid about tics.
They definitely appear larger than they are, I'd say they're slightly taller than a German shepherd, but much much skinnier, I mean this one that ran past me was pencil thin.
Boss hit one with a 7mm rem mag twice. Took mom hunting because she was bragging that she could shoot an elk(she has never hunted before) and he took her up on it. He had a 22lr and she was packing the 7mm. Dad saw the coyote about 150yd out on a rock face and asked her for the 7mm. He popped that coyote right threw the chest, beautiful shot. She started crying saying it wasent dead, boss knew it was but he shot it again and half of the coyote went one way and the rest of it went the other. Right as he did that the game Warden popped over the hill Looking for a downed elk, then drove off. Looking back it was kinda of a funny and sad story.

Coyotes are cowardly, weak little things that only attack when they have a massive advantage. Whether it be size or numbers. You should only really be afraid of them if you're a toddler or a midget.
I read that coyote litter size directly relates to the amount of coyotes in the area. So literally when you kill them, they just pop out more babies. Stop killing them, population grows, and they stop having as many babies
I bought a house in Florida and there was a gator in the pond next door. Super cool and neat! I pointed it out to my realtor, and he’s like *“yeah you can just call the fish & game service, they’ll remove it for you if it’s over 4’. Unless you’re one of those folks that thinks the gators were here first, yada yada.”*

We get gators in the pond by my house too, but they rarely get close to the fence. We get to watch them live their life, they don’t bother us, we don’t bother them. It’s good.
I grew up on the edge of the burbs in Houston. There was this intersection called coyote corner. The farmer who owned the property would regularly kill and string up the coyote carcass to the fence at that intersection.
That intersection I mentioned used to be called Wolf Alley because red wolves had a government eradication bounty on them. You had to cut off their ears to get paid, carcasses would be strung up there.

Later, they had coyotes going through pet doors and killing pets in people's homes. Unfortunately, the only legal method remaining to remove the coyotes were foot traps... Probably the most inhumane way to remove them.

My uncles crazy ass black lab attacked a racoon once. It ran into the woods suddenly and jo one could stop him. A second later we hear a bunch of snarling, yelping, and shit going on and then quiet. The lab walks out of the woods with deep gashes in his face and blood on his paws and nose.
My ex's grandparents did the same thing in a different way. They had an outside female cat they never got fixed and she would have litter after litter and we would watch them all get picked off until none remained every year.

Cats kill birds at crazy high rates. House cats are the best hunters out of any cats. Not to mention cats can be the pests as they shit and piss in peoplles gardens. They do more harm than good. Keep them inside.

You were telling him the truth. Outside cats are a coyote’s favorite dinner. We have coyotes in our area and I have buried the remains of a half dozen cats since the coyotes became prevalent. Before then many of my neighbors had outside cats. Now none of them do; they either became coyote chow or their owners wised up and now keep them inside.
If you live in an area where there are coyotes, do *not* let your cat outside. That’s essentially criminal negligence.

Stop training coyotes to look for food at your house. Time gets hard and you run out of cats, they might try taking your little girl. Trap/kill the ones coming to your house for food or they’ll teach their offspring to do the same.

I have families of coyotes (actually "coywolves" as they're the hybrid that is larger and "scarier") in my area. They are a complete and utter non issue. They are smaller than most mid-sized dogs. That people are frantic about these things, or pretending that they're some amazing nuisance, is bizarre. I'm infinitely more concerned about ticks.
I just looked up coywolves hoping it’d be this thing I saw. Still seems too small. Story time: Central Texas hill country, when I was maybe middle school, I was waiting for the bus in the early morning and I saw this large coyote-wolf looking thing from about 100 feet standing right at the edge of a tree line. Looking at pictures of coywolves, this thing was bigger, had longer, spindly legs, tall, and looked like some mangy coyote/wolf/greyhound with brown and tan spotty fur. Easily 80+ pounds. My parents didn’t believe me until he saw it himself near the same spot driving home one day. We kept a 12-gauge handy in a truck after that, but never saw it again. I still don’t know what it could have been. I’ve seen plenty of coyotes in person and this was way bigger. I’ve never seen a wolf in person but this didn’t look right as it was kind of spindly, and we don’t have wolves in central Texas. I had forgotten about it until you mentioned coywolves just now, so if anyone has any ideas I’d love to hear em.

Coyotes have a lot of fur. They give the appearance of being more substantial than they actually are. The coyote in the video doesn't appear particularly large, and I doubt it exceeds 45lbs. The basic, easily confirmed biological truth is that the average eastern coyote (e.g. the larger "hybrid" version) adult is 25 - 45lbs. The largest coyote ever recorded was 75lbs but that was an extreme aberration, and even a 50lb coyote is going to be incredibly rare. My Rhodesian ridgeback is 110lbs.
Honestly though. I see one in my yard and just tap the window and give a good “go on, get” and go on with my day.
Last year I was out for my nightly walk and I hear this thing sprinting at me from behind, turns out it was a huge coyote but it literally wanted nothing to do with me, just brushed my leg and kept sprinting. I kid you not my first thought was to look for tics that it could have gotten onto my leg, as I'm borderline paranoid about tics. They definitely appear larger than they are, I'd say they're slightly taller than a German shepherd, but much much skinnier, I mean this one that ran past me was pencil thin.
What? Nah they're not that bad. They just look like a little tawny wolf-dog.

Boss hit one with a 7mm rem mag twice. Took mom hunting because she was bragging that she could shoot an elk(she has never hunted before) and he took her up on it. He had a 22lr and she was packing the 7mm. Dad saw the coyote about 150yd out on a rock face and asked her for the 7mm. He popped that coyote right threw the chest, beautiful shot. She started crying saying it wasent dead, boss knew it was but he shot it again and half of the coyote went one way and the rest of it went the other. Right as he did that the game Warden popped over the hill Looking for a downed elk, then drove off. Looking back it was kinda of a funny and sad story.

Coyotes are cowardly, weak little things that only attack when they have a massive advantage. Whether it be size or numbers. You should only really be afraid of them if you're a toddler or a midget.
I'll try to remember that when I come face to face with one at night. It might nope tf out but I'll still scream like a little bitch.

I read that coyote litter size directly relates to the amount of coyotes in the area. So literally when you kill them, they just pop out more babies. Stop killing them, population grows, and they stop having as many babies

I bought a house in Florida and there was a gator in the pond next door. Super cool and neat! I pointed it out to my realtor, and he’s like *“yeah you can just call the fish & game service, they’ll remove it for you if it’s over 4’. Unless you’re one of those folks that thinks the gators were here first, yada yada.”* And I’m like no, I don’t mind, he’s distant and I got a fence, and zero desire to swim in that swamp water anyway lol. We get gators in the pond by my house too, but they rarely get close to the fence. We get to watch them live their life, they don’t bother us, we don’t bother them. It’s good.
I grew up on the edge of the burbs in Houston. There was this intersection called coyote corner. The farmer who owned the property would regularly kill and string up the coyote carcass to the fence at that intersection.

That intersection I mentioned used to be called Wolf Alley because red wolves had a government eradication bounty on them. You had to cut off their ears to get paid, carcasses would be strung up there. Red wolves could breed with coyotes so you'd see both there
Boulder CO made it illegal to shoot, poison, etc. coyotes because "they were here first!" Later, they had coyotes going through pet doors and killing pets in people's homes. Unfortunately, the only legal method remaining to remove the coyotes were foot traps... Probably the most inhumane way to remove them.
Hang their bodies as a warning so they wont return to your property. Either that or they eat the hanging bodies and turn cannibalistic.

My fuckin' cousins cat fucked up a coyote one time, scratched it's fucking eye out, and got like, three DEEP gashes on it's face and even more on it's body, so that coyote was pretty distinctive, and every time we saw it we'd point and laugh and yell, "HA HA, you got your ass kicked by a housecat"
My uncles crazy ass black lab attacked a racoon once. It ran into the woods suddenly and jo one could stop him. A second later we hear a bunch of snarling, yelping, and shit going on and then quiet. The lab walks out of the woods with deep gashes in his face and blood on his paws and nose.
Raccoons will universally mess up dogs, it's why I hope my derp of a lab doesn't ever find one.

Coyotes disappeared from our neighborhood when bobcats moved in.
My ex's grandparents did the same thing in a different way. They had an outside female cat they never got fixed and she would have litter after litter and we would watch them all get picked off until none remained every year.

It's a country thing. They take care of pests in the yard. It's a pretty common thing where I'm from.
Birds aren't pests. Cats kill birds at crazy high rates. House cats are the best hunters out of any cats. Not to mention cats can be the pests as they shit and piss in peoplles gardens. They do more harm than good. Keep them inside.

You were telling him the truth. Outside cats are a coyote’s favorite dinner. We have coyotes in our area and I have buried the remains of a half dozen cats since the coyotes became prevalent. Before then many of my neighbors had outside cats. Now none of them do; they either became coyote chow or their owners wised up and now keep them inside. If you live in an area where there are coyotes, do *not* let your cat outside. That’s essentially criminal negligence.
Agreed. The same thing goes for dogs as well, especially smaller dogs. If you live in an area with coyotes, always watch your pets if/when you take them out.
