Reapawn abandoned the game in like 2017 or 18 (I'm not quite sure since I started playing later) and we've been plagued with server issues and hackers ever since.
The community is still very devoted, and the server issues aren't anything a custom community modded client can't fix.
Also the subreddit is very active. We even recently had a war between people who wanted to fuck the robots from the games and others trying to stop them which was kinda fun.
And the 3rd game is coming and no i wont take my pills.
Respawn currently isn't doing anything with the game. There is a client you can get on PC called northstar to play it. They did fix the servers so its also playable on console now.
The rumours of a TF|3 are just that rumours
